Joyoung! Joyoung!

-The Tang army is descending the mountain. -And their retreat route?

The same three paths they came from.

All of us must attack simultaneously at the sound of the horn.

-That`s the only way we will be able to wipe them out. -Don`t worry.

Let`s go!

What is that sound?

Traps! Stand back! It`s a trap!

General, it`s Dae Joyoung!

How dare you try to attck me, you worthless insect!

I`ll show you the rage of worthless insects!

There are only a hundred of them!

Get a hold of youselves and we can defeat them!

I`m going to kill all of you!

General, we can`t distinguish them in our uniforms!

The black markings! They have black markings on their faces!

It`s too dark to tell, sir!

And we`re not going to last intil day break! We must retreat, sir!

What are you waiting for? Protect the general!

General!

Attack!!

They`ve booby trapped theentire mountain. The entire mountain!

We`ve lost all of the advance guards!

General!!!

-Thank heavens you`re all right! -Where are the rest of your men?

They`re dead, sir.

-We are the only survivors. -What?

All of those soldiers! Damn...

General!!

General, there are traps everywhere!

Are you the only survivor as well?

General, there is no time. We must get out of here!

Dae Joyoung.... Dae Joyoung that bastard!

What happened? What was that noise coming from the forest?

You!

-What are you doing here, General Xue? -That`s what I want to ask.

What is a cvivil official doing here with soldiers?

What was all that screaming, and what is going on here?

Don`t tell me.

Is Dae Joyoung still alive?

Answer my question! Is Dae Joyoung alive?

Curses!

Ge...General!

Tell me the truth.

Dae Joyoung is alive.

He`s become a mountain ghost eating up all of our soldiers!

What?

If you are a warrior of Tang,

take that sword into the hills and save our soldiers!

General, we`re almost to our base. Hang in there, sir.

Li Wen, stop your flight!

That bastard Chunga is ours!

He`s killed hundreds of our friends with his merciless beatings!

Go ahead and attack. I`ll slice you in half!

Dae Joyoung, you`re mine!

Get them!

You bastard!

General!

General!

How is this possible?

How many of you survived?

Approximately a thousand.

A thousand?

Seven thousand soldiers went in and only a thousand came out?

Li Wen? Where is Li Wen?

-He didn`t make it out, sir. -What?

Then he`s certain to be dead.

Dae Joyoung must not be left alive.

His mind blowing ability will cause lastin harm to this empire!

If Xue Rengui assumes command here, all of us will be killed.

What do you mean? He`s agreed to help us.

Charity beguns at home.

I`ll see what I can do. ~Geumlan~

We must find a way to get ou of here.

No, not yet. We could be giving Xue Rengui a reason to kill us. ~Mimosa~

Everything is up to Xue Rengui now.

No, it won`t play out that way.

Do you have a plan?

Let us be patient and watch what happens. ~Dae Jungsang~

Joyoung is alive.

Gulsabiwu, Heuk Sudol,

Dolba and Mu Yeon have done the impossible!

-Kneel! -Let`s go of me!

This is Tang, China.

Even if you make it out of this mountain, you won`t survive.

Shut your trap!

Joyoung, what are you going to do with him? ~Gulsabiwu~

Let`s kill him right now.

He destroyed the Donmyoungchun League and captured you. ~Heuk Sudol~

Lock him up.

You`re not going to kill him?

I`m going to trade him for food.

What?

-Take him away! -Yes, sir!

Not in your life! You`re not getting a grain of rice!

Let go!

Joyoung, when did you think up this idea? You`re so smart!

What did you do with the bodies?

We dumped them in the stream.

They still have at least a thousand soldiers at the base of the mountain. We have Li Wen,

so someone else will take command and come at us again. Stay alert!

Don`t worry, Joyoung.

~Chang`an, Tang~

Hey! What is this?

-Did you find the weapons? -No, I step on horse shit!

-Damn! -Continue searching.

This is a stable, not a smithy. What are we doing here looking for swords?

The Khitan soldiers are searching the stables like you said they would.

-Did you move the weapons? -Yes, Your Highness.

They will never find them.

Li Kaigu and Chulin are closing in on me. ~Li Xian~

I will have them killed off.

No, let`s not act prematurely.

Any news from Mt.Guifu?

No news is good new, Your Highness.

You can go. Send in Li Kaigu.

Yes, Your Highness.

Are you sure she saw the weapons?

-Princess Sukyoung wouldn`t tell a lie. -But the stable is empty.

Li Xian is not stupid. He wouldn`t leave them where they could be found.

If he`s hiding weapons in the palace, he could be plotting an overthrow. ~Li Jinzhong~

Li Xian has suffered terrible persecution from the Empress. ~Li Kaigu~

I wouldn`t be surprised if he was.

How about conducting and official search for the weapons? ~Sun Wanrong~

That`s a bad idea. ~Shin Hong~

We will face serious accusations if the weapons are not found.

Everything is like skating on thin ice.

Be very careful.

General!!

Prince Li Xian is asking to see you.

Sit down.

Thieves broke into the stable last night and gave my horses quite a scare.

What did you find in there?

We had report that weapons were stored there.

-So did you find them? -No, I did not.

Search more carefully.

I`m sure you`ll find the weapons.

Someone is obviously trying to set me up, so they have to be in there.

Who would dare set you up, Your Highness?

If you had found the weapons,

I would have naturally accused the Khitans of intrapment.

And if you set me up,

that would make my mother your backer.

We averted a storm of slaughter in the palace.

I`m told you killed numerous non-Chinese warriors that were in charge of you safety prior to my appointment.

Now I know how you brought false charges against them and had them killed.

But I assure you I am not like the others.

So think twice, before you bring false accusations against the Khitans.

Your Highness!

It`s the Emperor! He`s.....

What happened?

Why did he bleed from the nose?

His blood vessel had burst.

It actually relieved the pressure and saved him for now.

Your Majesty, please open you eyes. ~Empress Wu Zetian~

It is I.

~LI Zhi~

You cannot leave me and die.

You must fight thisand live.

Your Highness, Prince Li Xian is here.

-Your Highness, Prince Li Xian... -Don`t send him in!

-Mother, it`s me. -Leave!

Mother!

Guards, send Prince Xian back!

Your Highness, I must ask you to leave.

Li Wen was killed in Mt.Guifu by Dae Joyoung?

Yes, Your Highness.

General Xue Rengui assumed command of the field for now.

How did this happen?

That`s not important anymore, Your Highness.

His Majesty the Emperor`s illness has taken a turn for theworse.

That`s right, Your Highness.

If he passes away before you are reinstated....

Then the prerogative will belong to the Empress to decide what to do next.

The situation could not be worse in both Mt.Guifu and in the palace.

Push the civil officials harder. We must put pressure on my mother.

This is my only chance to rise to the seat of Crown Prince.

Next we have a petition from the Governor general of Yongzhou. Li Zongchen to reinstate Prince Li Xian.

Another petition to reinstate Xian?

Yes, Your Highness.

that will do.

We will wrap it up for the day.

Your Highness, the Emperor is in critical condition, but we are without a Crown Prince.

Naturally, the provincial leaders are nevous.

Instability in the imperial court will invite foreign invision.

You must reinstate Prince Ki Xian without delay and restore stability in the empire.

His Majesty and I have already announced our decision on the matter. I will not discuss this again.

Your Highness, it is for restoration of stability. Please reconsider.

-We implore you!!! -Emough!

I`ve heard enough!

What`s wrong?

You`re drinking all by yourself.

I just don`t see a way out of this.

Li Xian will rise to the throne unless something is done.

Even if those weapons are found, it won`t pose any threat to Li Xian at this point. ~Chulin~

Like he said, it could hurt us more than it could hurt him.

Let`s get rid of him.

I`ve thought long and hard, but it`s the only way to stop his succesion. ~Li Kaigu~

And that`s the only way to protect our tribe.

-But Kaigu, -I`ll do it if you tell me to.

Just say the word. I`ll bring back Li Xian`s head.

Hold on for a moment.

If Li Xian is hiding weapons, they will be used as a last resort.

If all else fails, he will shed blood to seize the Empress`s hall.

The same goes for us,

Killing Li Xian must be our last resort.

-Is there something else we can do? -Give me a little time.

I might be able to come up with something.

Think hard and think fast.

We don`t have alot of time.

By the way, I`m told General Xue Rengui is in Mt.Guifu.

Mt.Guifu? Why?

I think something is happening up there.

At any rate, give me a couple of days.

I will come up with a plan that will shock the world.

General.

Are you still up?

We can`t delay this any longer. Strike a deal with Xue Rengui.

A deal?

Xue Rengui has been studying your response and doing his math.

Doing his math?

We`ve done our math as well, so it`s time to strike a deal.

What is this deal you`re talking about?

General, this is your chance to be a hero. Why are you hesitating?

-You wouldn`t know my concern. -Your concern?

Are you talking about you friendship with Dae Jungsang?

General,

friendship doesn`t pay the bills!

Are you in?

General, it`s Dae Jungsang!

Come in.

What are you doing still up?

What is your plan?

Are you going to go after the prisoners?

I am a servent of this state. ~Xue Rengui~

General Li Wen went after the prisoners with seven thousand soldiers. ~Mimosa~

There is no way you can defeat Dae Joyoung with a thousand demoralized troops that survived.

Silence!

How dare you denigrate a high general of Tang! ~Hongpei~

Isn`t that the reason for this hesitation, General Xue?

-Whai? You! -Hongpei.

What kind of military power do you think I have access to in this country?

I can reduce that mountain to ashes with one tenth the troops at my disposal!

If word get out that you`re calling out the troops to deal with less than one hundred prisoners, you will become a mockery just like Li Wen.

It would be wiser to use General Dae Jungsang instead.

I will go into Mt. Guifu at your command

and convince Joyoung to come down.

You?

Meanwhile, I will stay here as your hostage. But I will send Lord Jang Sanhae to Chang`an.

We must inform General Heichi Changzhi about what happened here so that the imperial court will know that General Dae Joyoung is alive.

How did it go, sir?

Everything went as we had hoped.

can we trust Xue Rengui?

We have no choice but to trust him at this point.

He may be a warrior of an enemy state, but we have mutual respect. ~Dae Jungsang~

He wouldn`t resort to guileful tricks.

Go to Chang`an with Grumlan first thing in the morning, ~Jang Sanhae~

We must alert General Heichi Changzhi about what`s happened here.

You want me to go as well?

-You have no reason to stay as a hostaage. -But I want to stay with you, master.

Geumlan,

I am not leaving without you.

Do as you wish.

Come tomorrow, all of us will be separated again...

General,

this man says he has something to tell you.

What do you have to say?

What are you staring at, you fool?

General!

Kill me.

Kill me now!

You`re a valuable man that will feed us all. I can`t kill you.

You`re going to trade me for food? Don`t even dream about it.

You think I`d let that happen?

-Put a bit on his mouth so he can`t bite his own tingue. -Got it.

-Shillan soldiers say they captured a Tang messenger. -A messenger?

-Xue Renhui sent him. -Xue Rengui?

-Li wen`s replacement is Xue Rengui? -I guess so.

We captured a fox and a tiger came in its place.

Why would Xue Rengui send a messenger? Do you know why?

That...!

-Jungsang! -General!

-Father! -General!

Joyoung!

I`m very proud of you.

What happened, Father?

There is no time to be emotional. we have much to discuss.

-See the general inside! -Yes, sir!

Go inside....

What do you mean, Father? Disarm and descend the mountain?

Come down this mountain with me.

But sir, how can we trust Xue Rengui?

Even if we do. ~Heuk Sudol~ ~Gulsabiwu~

Baekje and Shillan prisoners will not come with us.

The weather has begun to change.

You can`t survive out here with roots and tree barks alone. You can endure only when there is hope.

But these men trusted me and fought whit me.

I can`t leave them if they decide to stay.

-Round up the troops. -Yes, General.

Guards are everywhere.

-If General Dae doesn`t come down... -That`s why I told you to go to Chang`an.

Don`t worry.

I just read my own future, and I am not to die anytime soon.

I saved this for you.

Eat.

All those men out there are looking at you to lead them.

Those who have alot to do can eat a little more than others.

Go on. Eat it.

I know you haven`t eaten well either.

Hunger is the only pain I suffered.

But you suffered terrible heartache because of me.

You`ve become thinner than I have, Father.

Nothing hurts a father more than seeing his child go hungry.

So eat it for me.

Here, Go on.

Dae Joyoung, don`t rest easy just yet.

You may have passed the Empress`s test but you haven`t passed Xue Rengui`s test yet.

And passing my test will not be easy.

General!

-General, -Yes, is Dae Joyoung coming down?

There`s no sign of him yet, sir.

A message was delivered to Lord Zhao Wenhui just now.

-I think there`s a problem developing in Chang`an. -A problem?

What kind of problem?

Get Lord Zhao here at once!

-I`m afraid he already left for the palace. -What? Already!

That bastard!

They won`t let anyone set foot into His Majesty`s bedchambers.

-Could the rumors be true that he has already passed away? -The physicians will not open their mouths.

It`s quite possible that His Majesty is gone. Why else would they do this?

If His Majesty is gone, ~Zhao Wenhui~

the Empress will decide his successor.

She`s using every trick in the book to drivr you out, Your Highness.

You cannot let her do this.

It`s time you made a decision.

Your Highness, everything is prepared.

~Li Xian~

I will go to the Empress tonight myself with all of you.

Li Kaigu, Your Highness.

Enter.

-Did you wish to see me? -Sit down.

Are you going to refuse a drink again?

There`s a rumor that my father the Emperor has passed away.

Who do you think will succeed him?

It is not my concern, sir.

The Empress will never give the Khitans Yingzhou Prefecture.

But I will.

I can make you a high general as well, like the Empress did for Xue Rengui.

Leave my mother and come to me.

Do you know what happens if you ignor a god given opportunity?

You are punished by the wrath of god.

I should go.

I just opened my heart to you.

If you open that door and leave, the khitan tribe will forever be my enemy.

General, a messenger just came for General Heichu.

Dae Joyoung survived Mt. Guifu and killed Li Wen.

It`s shocking beyond words.

Not only will he survive, but he will come back as a big shot with all eyes on him,

I`m in a middle of carrying out a very important work.

But this prestige will not come close to yours.

If this overthrow succeeds,

Li Kaigu will become a household name in Tang.

Remember.

Not just your advancement, but the fate of the Khitan tribe is in your hands.

Announce us to Prince Li Xian.

-He`s asleep. -Asleep?

-There is no way he could be asleep at a time like this? -He said he didn`t want to be bothered.

What are you up to? What have you done to the prince?

What are you up to? He`s sleeping because he`s drunk!

-Can`t you smell the alcohol? -Step aside!

I must see for myself!

What is going on? He really is sleeping!

Did you think I was a liar?

Let`s come back tomorrow.

-Today is not the day. -Very well.

All of the gates to the Empress`s palace lay open for us!

You will find the Empress and remove her upon arrival!

My father the Emperor has already left this world!

We must deliver the state from the Empress

who leads us to doom with her greed for power!

Demonstrate your patriotism and follow me!

Slay everyone that stands in our path!

Xian, you really plotted an overthrow!

You concealed my father`s death seeking the seat of power! How will you pay for your crime?

-I sought the seat of power? -That`s right!

You committed an unforgivable crime against my departed father!

Is that why you attack the Empress`s hall, brandishing your swords?

I did not plot an overthrow.

I have risen to rectify the state!

Risen?

You have risen?

Escort him out!

Li Kaigu, it`s you! You plotted all this!
