And they say that the Woodman family lived up here.

They wanted to live far enough away from the town

that no one would bother them

because people thought they were weird.

'Cause they didn't have like 10 kids like everyone else.

But some say that the wife was cursed

to be barren because she was...

- A witch!

A witch!

(Selene groans) - Shut up, Greg.

Yeah.

But her husband loved her,

and so they lived together in isolation.

- Why didn't they just fuckin' move?

- Shh, shh, shh, shh, shh.

- When the town faced hardships, their own crops flourished.

And when disease struck, they were spared.

One day, out of the blue, she was with child.

The town was beside themselves.

The midwife wouldn't deliver the baby.

The town elders didn't know what to do.

The minister wouldn't even baptize her.

So they, they just continued to live together

in isolation and solitude and peace.

Until one day, their daughter,

who they named Caroline, was seven.

And she wandered away from the homestead.

The children of the town would sneak up to get a glimpse

of the witch family almost as a rite of passage.

But on this day, Caroline saw them and having never

had friends before just simply wanted to play.

But the town children didn't want to be her friend.

They thought she was strange, a curiosity.

And they treated her like one.

And Caroline, having never had companionship,

couldn't tell the difference

between their cruelty and friendship.

So she did everything with them.

The kids would take turns coming up

with things to tell her to do.

And every time she did them, just to appease her friends.

She was a sweet kid.

She had no idea how wrong it was.

And so she didn't tell her equally kind parents

about any of this cruelty she was going through.

And then one day, when it was really normal for the kids

to come around, they devised their worst act of cruelty yet.

Caroline was never allowed out of sight of the homestead.

Her parents insisted on it.

In fact, she knew that if she wandered too far,

her father would hit her with a switch.

So one day the kids dared her to walk into the woods

and keep walking further and further

until she couldn't hear the sound of their singing.

Little did Caroline know that as she walked

further and further into the woods,

the children were walking behind her, singing.

Pushing her deeper and deeper

into the forest with their song.

When they finally stopped,

when she couldn't hear them anymore,

they had already run back into town,

leaving her alone in the middle of the forest.

By then, it was getting dark.

She couldn't hear her parents

calling for her in the distance so she just kept walking.

Trying to find her way home and. (sighs)

Months later, the children of the town

wandered back to the now abandoned Woodman homestead.

And they could hear the sound of someone crying.

They followed the noise, walking into the woods

deeper and deeper in until they saw a trickle

of fresh blood in the snow.

So they followed that trail further and further

into the woods until they saw her.

Caroline.

Sitting in a clearing, her back turned to them.

Crying, shivering, barely clothed in the dead of winter.

One of the older boys grabbed a stick

and crept up behind her.

But right before he could touch her, her head shot around.

When he saw the bloody streams down her little cheeks,

flowing from the dark pits where her empty eye sockets sat.

- Holy shit!

- The pain was too great for this child.

The tears never stopped.

The tears turned to blood, and her eyes were cried out.

The boy dropped dead from fear.

The town scoured the woods

for this poor demon child, but they never found her.

And yet they swore they could hear the sound of her crying,

the cries that never stopped.

Hundreds of years later to this day she haunts these woods.

Her ghost wanders.

And in the stillness of the night, you can hear her crying.

- Ha!

- Asshole!

- Yeah, I know, I'm hearing that a lot.

- There's nothing scary about that.

- Are you kidding?

- It's like that, that really old fucking movie

we saw, Goose.

"Blair Witch," right?

It's like "Blair Witch." - This shit is real.

- Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, right?

- It's really sad.

She was a child.

This really sweet and trusting child

who just wanted to play.

She just wanted friends.

And their first instinct, those little shits,

was to torment her.

Who would do that? - Shut up, dork.

- Look, I've had enough of your bullshit.

- I've had enough of your bullshit.

- Stop.

- I've had enough of your bullshit.

This is just what you need to chill the fuck out.

- No, I don't think getting wasted is a good idea right now.

- Are you calling me stupid?

Is that what you're saying to me?

- That isn't what I meant.

- I have a another idea that might.

- No. - Take your mind off things.

- Landon, Landon, please, Jesus Christ, no.

Please, Jesus Christ, Landon, stop, please!

- I wasn't asking. - Stop, please, stop, stop!

Get off, please!

(suspenseful music)

(van doors banging) (footsteps thudding)

- Hi, we're...

- I know who you are.

Come inside.

(suspenseful music continues)

(footsteps thudding)

(suspenseful music continues)

Why are you here in the middle of the night?

- Selene, she always talked about you and...

- I wasn't asking you.

Why are you here?

- We're in a lot of trouble, and we need your help.

- My help?

What do you think I can do for you?

- Selene said you understand all this kind of stuff.

She said you're really wise.

We went into the woods, and I saw something, someone.

And now people are dying.

My friends are dying, and we're scared.

And we don't know how to make her stop.

- Her?

- Caroline.

- And why would I know how to stop Caroline?

- Caroline's a ghost.

- She's a stain.

And no one can stop what has started here.

- What do you mean we can't stop it?

This has to stop.

You have to help us.

- There's nothing that I can do for you.

And there's nothing that your friends can do either.

- I don't understand.

- She has marked you,

and now everyone around you is in danger.

- [Maddie] Well, how do I fix this?

How do I make her stop?

- Return to where she found you.

Go there and confront her.

Plead with her to relent.

This is on you.

Six souls have already been taken.

Go before there are more.

- Six?

- You should go now and check on your friend.

(water splashing) (suspenseful music)

- [Landon] Babe.

(suspenseful music continues)

- Maddie, I don't care what that woman said.

You are not going back into those woods alone.

- You heard her, there's no other way.

This is all about me.

I can't let anyone else get hurt.

I have to do it.

- Okay, well, she didn't say you had to go alone.

I'm going with you.

- Yeah, fuck that, so am I.

- Guys, you don't have to do it.

- Look, she's finding us anywhere we are.

I go home, who's to say she doesn't kill me on the toilet

taking a shit?

What the fuck?

(footsteps thudding)

- Where's Lindsey? - Drive, drive!

- Where's Lindsey? - She's dead, okay?

Let's get the fuck out of here, let's go.

- What did you see?

- Her neck was snapped like a fucking twig.

And she was standing over her

and her eyes were all fucked, man.

Oh, fuck. - You saw her?

- Yeah.

And I'm not letting any of you out my sight

until that bitch is gone.

(fist bangs)

- [Cort] Fuck!

- Fuckin' six.

- [Cort] Now what?

- We're going back into the woods.

- Oh, God. (cries)

(suspenseful music)

(parking brake clicks)

(van doors click)

(van doors bang) (suspenseful music continues)

Maddie, I'm so sorry this happened.

- I know, it's okay. - No.

No, it's not okay.

I'm your best friend and I should have

believed you and I let you down.

God, I'm always letting you down.

- Hey, that's bullshit, okay?

Look, we're gonna get through this.

I got lost as soon as I walked into the woods.

It felt like I was miles from where I started.

But I know now that that's a trick.

We stay close. - Okay.

- So how do we find her? - She'll find us.

(suspenseful music)

(footsteps crunch) (suspenseful music continues)

- Something wrong?

- This is where I saw her the other night.

(owl hooting)

- [Selene] I'll tell you your future.

- [Mikayla] Lindsay's newest rando.

- [Goose] Mikayla.

(owl hooting)

(suspenseful music)

- Oh God. - She's real.

- Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, what the hell are you doing?

- You heard her, this is all about me.

- Nah, no, that's bullshit, this is my fault.

I sent you into the woods.

I'm the reason this happened.

So if you think I'm gonna let her just take you,

it's not gonna happen. - I have to do this.

(owl hooting)

I came back.

This is what you wanted, isn't it?

I'm here now, you can leave my friends alone.

(suspenseful music)

I don't understand why you're doing this!

Please just leave us alone.

(child shrieks)

- Guys?

Hey!

Oh, shit, shit, shit, shit, shit.

I should be at home right now

smoking a spliff and watching some porn.

What the hell did I get myself into?

Guys!

Come on.

Marco?

Damn it.

- [Mikayla] Goose.

- Mikayla. - Help me!

- Mikayla, baby, where are you?

- [Mikayla] Goose, please help me!

(Goose shouts)

- I want my mom, I want my mom.

(footsteps thudding)

- Where the fuck is everybody?

There's no one here, what the fuck?

- Wait, shut up, shut up, shut up!

- What the fuck? - Jesus Christ.

I said shut up.

Do you know how to navigate by the stars or something?

- No, man.

- Fuck, you are completely useless!

- A handful of rosemary, a circle of sage.

Crystals held tightly keep the evil stains away.

Do you still think I'm crazy?

- Where the fuck are you going, man?

- [Landon] Just run!

(footsteps thudding) (suspenseful music)

- Kim?

Kim?

(Kim groans)

Kim!

(dramatic music) (Kim groans)

Hey, leave her alone!

(dramatic music) (Kim groans)

(Cort groans)

- Cort, no!

- Run!

- No, I'm not leaving you! - Go, go, go, just go!

If you don't go, we'll both be dead!

(dramatic music)

- You know, there never seems to be a witch

around when you need one.

- You can't outrun her, man.

- I don't have to outrun her. (knife stabs)

I just have to outrun you.

(Greg groans)

- Fuck you!

Please.

No, no, no, no, no.

Please, please, please.

Please, I didn't do anything to you.

Please, please, please.

I don't want to die, please.

I didn't do anything to you.

- Maddie!

Maddie, Maddie, Cort's gone, Cort's gone.

He's gone, he's gone.

- Well, we need to find everyone else and get out of here.

- Have you seen anyone else?

- Nope.

- We need to find everyone and get out of here.

- I don't think there is anyone else.

- What?

- I think we're all that's left.

- Why do you say that?

- You said she was coming for you.

That you had to stop her.

That we had to stop her before she killed you.

But how many of us have died,

and where were you when Lindsey's neck was busted?

When everyone else was dying?

Six of us came here tonight.

And Caroline tried to kill all of us, but not you.

No, she was saving you for last.

But I'm gonna end this now.

- Maddie, stop!

(Landon grunts) (Kim groans)

(knife stabs) (Kim groans)

- No!

- Maddie.

Maddie!

Why?

- Why, why?

(Kim groans)

(suspenseful music) (footsteps crunching)

(suspenseful music) (footsteps crunching)

(suspenseful music) (footsteps crunching)

(suspenseful atmospheric music)
