thinkbook 16 plus you can't buy this

over here in Canada you can't buy it in

the United States I had to import this

laptop from China however it's an

awesome laptop and I really wish that L

Nova would bring it over I brought in

the 16-in model here which is a really

really nice laptop I also brought in the

14in which is the same laptop just

slightly smaller I brought them both in

from the same seller because I wanted to

test them out and here is the laptop

here so it actually came with a 100 wat

Gallum Knight tri charger this is a Euro

plug they actually gave me a little

adapter it's fine I have USBC is all

over my house so it's no big deal but

that's 100 Watts you can see this here

the think Book used to be kind of

lenovo's I'd say budget lineup it was

kind of like a budget offering of the

Think Pad but I'm finding the think

books to actually be elevated now into a

very premium status from Lenovo and

they're actually taking them very

seriously now too they're actually

becoming very very premium you can get

you know more affordable think books all

the way up to like super premium like

the thinkbook 16 plus here you know you

get your think book design where you get

that half kind of 2/3 there it's a

slightly different texture a little bit

shinier a little bit less shinier just

give it a bit of an accent nice think

book label

there metal bottom not plastic some of

the lower end think books have plastic

on the bottom this is a much higher and

think book so obviously metal on the

bottom there looking nice right side

nice and clean not super thick or

anything like that okay let's have a

look at ports on this one here so on the

left side you get your power in USBC 10

GB so I guess you'll get basically th000

megab a second if you wanted to plug in

some type of data there you should be

able to power a screen and that off of

that always on usba HDMI Thunderbolt

Port there and then you get your uh

that's basically that lightning that

should be power right there another USBC

headphone microphone combo Jack I guess

that's a power indicator or something

like

that right side slide that out and go

like that oh there's another that's a

weirdly embedded USBC I guess you could

put like a permanent USBC in there I

actually have a somewhere like I I have

like one of these right so um I have one

of these that has data you can put it in

or you can embed your like actual Mouse

in there right so you put that in there

and then you don't have a dongle for

your Mouse sticking out to the side

that's a really smart idea actually I

really like that because normally when

I'm using my laptops I have this thing

sticking out right it's not the end of

the

world but when it's if it's not there

then it's not there definitely nice

right so that can be in there

permanently uh it's very cool big fan of

that actually fulls sizee SD card there

another usba RJ45

ethernet right so you get internet and

then you also get uh Kensington lock

slot nothing on the back so definitely

some other nice accents on there too

like you can see that nice little if you

can see that on camera like that little

etched in thinkbook there it's just a

clean clean laptop it's all metal right

it's just these little things that's

nice right that just makes it feel more

premium just having that little nice

thing there check the weight of the

laptop here

1,912 gam so that is approximately

4 3 lb something like that 4.4 lbs okay

and I'm just going to step back for a

moment here this is the 16 plus this is

the 14 plus also Chinese only model at

least I don't think it's sold anywhere

in the west uh very very similar laptops

the same CPU on both of them I've also

been using the uh 14 plus a lot recently

I have a review coming for it I finally

decided to do it because I've been using

it for like two months now it's just

time to make the review uh but you can

see how similar they are there right

same idea that's the size difference

there between a 16 and a 14 inch you do

lose about an inch on the width there

and around an inch on the top there

right so it kind of depends what you're

looking for in terms of that ports are

going to be fantastic on both of them

like same so it's a 14-inch laptop but

you don't lose size you don't lose ports

right side same right the only

difference is micro SD versus fulls size

St they both have this kind of hidden

thing there same back so uh they're

basically the same laptop just like the

screen is bigger I guess um other than

that uh they have the same keyboards

right this then you get a trackpad you

get a numpad on this here because they

just more width so they can add a numpad

to it makes it a little bit more

professional speakers up there no

speakers up there right it is what it is

very very similar other otherwise same

type of keyboard uh the main difference

here if you you know the screens between

them main difference here screens

between them 100% srgb 100% dcip better

screen but otherwise they're very very

similar laptops even internally they're

actually very similar uh they both have

dual nvme nvme nvme uh they're they're

very similar solder RAM on both of them

so I mean they're very very similar

laptops um this is a idead pro at least

idead Pro and you can see here it's a

slightly darker keyboard This is

actually a smooth material so this is

smooth so this is smooth here smooth

texture and this is smooth here slightly

darker but it's a smooth texture that's

booting up uh trackpads kind of similar

I guess I'd say these are actually

different keys this year I've never seen

this on a thinkbook normally the

thinkbook keyboards are similar to this

uh they're kind of like a smooth

plasticky texture uh which is good I

like it these are basically identical to

the uh Microsoft Surface if you ever use

a Microsoft Surface laptop like the

surface go or whatever they have almost

like a rubber texture it's not a grippy

texture it's very smooth as well run

your fingers over but it's like a rubber

kind of I guess rubber would be the

proper term yeah I guess rubber so the

keyboard itself looks nice I mean you

get kind of embedded arrow keys there

decent you get the stupid co-pilot thing

full SI you get a numpad over here

slightly shrunk down so it's going to

peel people who don't like a fullsize

numpad they shrink it down there which

allows the trackpad to be slightly more

centered it's a gigantic trackpad

anyways uh you can see that there the

keys like I said are slightly more

slightly more matte textured good travel

on them we'll see this here right so the

actual physical key caps aren't super

tall right and but you do get good

travel lots of travel right so let's do

a quick type here uh get some audio on

it too when we're

typing yeah very very Snappy you almost

at first think it's like not as Snappy

because it's got like a rubber texture

which you like it tricks your brain um

but it's got a lot of travel on it a lot

of travel it's very

Snappy and I feel like the rubber

texture maybe mutes it

slightly like it mutes the actual sound

because you're not hitting plastic on

plastic you're hitting like rubbery

stuff on plastic when you bought them

out when you bought them out so so this

is a fantastic keyboard I mean 10 out of

10 I guess right I find that a lot of

times these think books are actually uh

getting better than think pads isn't

that like blasphemy backl that's Auto I

have lights on it so it's not going to

light up lower brightness higher

brightness so we'll just put it on auto

I guess for now trackpad is very smooth

not glass trackpad but it's very smooth

feels really nice very large you get

that little bit of a metal trim on it

you can see the light catching it which

does just give it a premium look to it

let's feel the click

here nice sharp clicks not that muted

kind of gummy stuff right so inputs to

the laptop are actually very premium

great key very great keyboard and a

great trackpad um big fan of that so the

think pad think book 16 P that I

reviewed last year um I think is

probably going to be similar to this I

have it coming in the mail I heard it

from Lenovo it's a slightly thicker

version of the think book uh cuz it's

got like gaming internals uh but yeah

this feels really nice so overall really

really nice there I would say shouldn't

be too hard to get inside the laptop

although it use this kind of

six-star style screw a head there so

very easy to get into there bottom of

the laptop here looks like there's

probably a sodum there where you can put

a thermal pad this one does have a

thermal pad it's 2242 so it's a little

guy there and just some structural foam

some structural stuff there big intakes

there it's got dual fan and some

protective there looks

good and here is a

look and here is a look inside the

laptop so it's looking pretty good so

what we have here is we have a nice big

battery 85w hour battery it can that's

pretty big actually especially because

this doesn't have dedicated graphics and

it's an 8845 HS this thing is going to

be super efficient and have crazy good

battery life so that's really nice 8845

HS on an 80 85 wat hourss is going to

probably Supply really good battery life

there nice speakers there you get these

Square style that they have on some of

their more premium laptops like the yoga

9i like the Legion 7i Pro the uh idead

Pros also have these square ones they

should sound pretty good there's your

seos battery by the way uh in terms of

upgradeability 2280 on the right there

2242 comes with it on the left but it

just has an adapter so they just

actually use a 2242 with an adapter so

if you want to put a 2280 just take that

out put it in there so dual 2280 or 2242

your choice upgradeable Wi-Fi there so

very good upgradeability Ram is soldered

on this model so make sure you get the

ram that you want I'd recommend buying

32 GB it's 2024 16 GB is rapidly

becoming not enough so this one does

have 32 GB of solder to the motherboard

that is a behemoth cooling system for

this laptop this is an 8845 HS AMD chip

here basically going to run Bas very

similar to what you find in like an

Legion go or an R Ally those are U

variants of so slightly lower Watts but

this is a massive cooling system for

this here you get two heat Pipes big

pipes too on the right here we have a

single we have a fan here on the right

fan here on the left so a dual fan as

well this one is actually huge in terms

of the fan itself is about the same size

but you get extra evacuation area there

for air double out there this thing

should run super cool I'm going to

assume that if this thing is doing like

4K video editing rendering under Max

load it's still going to run at like 60°

that is massive cooling for this laptop

here so these internals look uh other

than the fact that they don't have Ram

upgradeable just make sure you get the

Ram that you want it's pretty typical of

an Ultrabook these days but other than

that it looks fantastic for

upgradability dual 2280 option or you

can go 2242 upgradeable Wi-Fi huge

battery good speakers incredibly good

cooling system in there so this looks

like a really nice

interior okay let's have a look at the

screen here it's a pretty nice screen

I'd say it's not you know revolutionary

or anything like that but it's a nice

screen so it is a 1600p screen great

resolution at 16 in I personally

wouldn't want it to be any lower than

that refresh is good on it as well you

can see here it does does dynamic as

well 120 HZ refresh rate or you can go

Dynamic meaning 60 on battery 120 when

you're on plugged in so that's fantastic

really really nice screen the actual the

actual screen is 100% srgb so it's going

to have good colors realistically it's

not going to beat out the thinkbook 14

plus which has 100% dcip which you

really primarily notice in the Reds

becoming slightly richer so if you are

like a creative type uh you may want to

consider the uh dcip screen on the 14

plus but I mean 100% srg is still good

you can still you know make thumbnails

make your videos and that kind of stuff

and still get pretty good color accuracy

because a lot of people are going to be

doing 100% srgb at best these days but

if you're doing print media you know

something you may actually print that

out or put it on you know a website

something professionally you may want to

lead towards a dcip screen just because

there's more color space there but you

know overall it's pretty nice so let's

actually test the screen

now okay we'll just test the screen here

so you may not be able B to see it here

but let me bring in the thinkbook real

quick so we can do a comparison between

dcip and srgb this is a perfect case

because they're the same realistically

the same laptop and you can get a

difference here okay so let's bring in

the thinkbook 14 plus and compare it to

the 16 plus and I just want to really

show this my camera may not pick it up

it usually does neutralize uh but you

can really see here this is an srgb

screen 100% srgb uh not quite as bright

but it's reasonably bright I'd say this

one here is 100% d DP now my phone will

normalize this but it is much more

noticeable in person very crisp vibrant

red here on the dcip screen this is

still decent red like it's not going to

be pinkish or orange like you get on you

know like a when you get those like SE

75% srgb or 45% ntsc the screens just

look garbage and I I really despise that

companies even put those out you should

not be putting out 45 NTS screens I'm

sorry it like even for daily use it just

looks like crap so 100% should be the

Baseline uh you can see here that there

is quite a bit of a difference probably

undere exaggerated on the screen here

where this is it's red but it's just not

vibrant right it's just not a vibrant

here whereas this is pops this is a

vibrant bright red uh you know you can

come a little bit forward here this is a

even more vibrant scene here with the

hands you can see just even the skin

tones look more uh human I guess I'd say

I don't again it's I don't know if it's

going to show up on camera right it's

okay right 100% of sgb is okay it's kind

of my Baseline and then that's the the

dcip just how much more vibrant it is

when you're watching shows it's very

noticeable when you're playing games

it's very noticeable when you're really

doing any type of task where you're

looking at a screen and it's a laptop so

you're going to be looking at a screen

it's very noticeable in my opinion I

really do notice it blacks are good you

know these are both good screens they do

have good blacks bring that down

there right they're probably near equal

right there's no Bloom around them I've

used both laptops

for honestly I think it's like two

months of this time laptops forever

finally decided to do the review so it's

not like I'm going in here blind I've

used this laptop has been been my daily

driver for legitimately almost two

months uh this one I've been using on

and off like constantly during that

period as well I got both of them at the

same time so okay so this one here is

the greens you're going to see even that

pops more right so you can maybe see on

camera I'm not sure but the these are

it's muted s 100% srgb still decent

right but when you get into this 100%

dcip it's staggering this is often why

people look at OLED screens and they're

like oh my God it's so much better than

IPS screens IPS is garbage hold on it's

not that IPS is garbage it's that the

IPS screens you're using are garbage

this is a gorgeous IPS screen and I've

been going through this type of laptop

during my reviews in the past I guess

two months and I've been comparing them

to many many OLED screens I have OLED

laptops all over the place 100% dcip

oleds versus 100% dcip IPS and they're

very close

okay turn it up see how that it

gets okay so I'd consider them good not

fantastic there are much better speakers

out there uh on some laptops but these

are good and probably above average you

know most gaming laptops don't have good

speakers the average business laptop

doesn't have good speakers uh it's

really like from Lenovo because Lenovo

laptop it's really not until you get

into the you know the yoga 9i or I guess

the legion 7i Pro uh what else has a

really good set of speakers the think

book 16p which is the bigger brother of

this has better speakers that's where

you get into like serious Bas this one

here though is still good it's

relatively loud it's not super loud but

relatively loud it's very clear when

also at max volume there's no rattle no

tininess it's nice and clear the high

and mid-range is very nice on this

laptop very very nice uh but the lowend

base is missing it's there but it's just

not prevalent it's actually muted a fair

bit you could probably tune it a bit you

know use FX sound bring that bass up

slightly get a little bit more boom out

of it um and it would end up being like

a nice laptop like you're going to watch

shows on this you're going to actually

enjoy it you're probably not going to

want to use headphones but you know if

you're getting into serious things like

serious music production you're probably

going to want to have something with a

bit more base prevalence at which point

you can move into the 16p for from in

this lineup here or you know if you want

a Lenovo Yoga 9i Pro or something like

that cineen R23 here on the left we have

silent mode we were getting about 13,000

in the middle we went to balance mode

and we got about 15, 15500 somewhere

around there and then when I moved it

into performance mode we get just

slightly over 16,000 so very very good

scores on that CPU there then you can

see here that in Wi-Fi it's very fast to

be honest that's about as fast as my

Wi-Fi can possibly go the SSD included

it's just that 2242 however it is a very

fast 2242 actually one of the fastest

I've ever tested so very very good there

then you can see here the battery life

is going to be exceptionally good on

this laptop it has a reasonably big

battery and then it of course does have

that very efficient AMD CPU you can see

here that 100% brightness full refresh

we're getting about uh 7.5 Watts being

drained so that's going to be good for

more than 10 hours about 12 hours of

idle if not 13 or so then I moved into

some 1080p YouTube and we're also

getting extremely good battery life we

did see an increase in the amount of

Watts being used by probably 1 1.5 or so

but realistically we're still looking at

about 10 hours of YouTube playback which

is incredibly good so if you're doing

mixed use productivity tasks you're

going to get easily an all day battery

here you know 6 to8 hours is very well

within reach of course if you're doing

very demanding tasks you might drop down

maybe five or six but overall very good

battery

life okay here's a look at the webcam

actually is pretty wide the laptop is

sitting really close to me which is

interesting it's got a nice viewing

angle on the side there it's actually

got really good lighting I don't even

have that many lights on right here um

it's actually really good for a

thinkbook I've recently finished a yoga

review and an idea pad review and they

were good too but usually the thinkbook

um uh webcams are a little bit lower so

I'm actually pretty impressed with this

here again the think books are becoming

more and more Halo from Lenovo it's

never probably going to be their

absolute top usually that's reserved for

like the yoga n i type stuff but these

are just moving up and up every single

year they come out with think books

they're better and better and the uh

webcam is another sign here it's

actually a good webcam

here okay game testing time this should

go very well because it's an AMD 8845 HS

so we're going to do some balers gate

here we'll start at 1200p we could do

1600p we'll just need scaling but we'll

try uh 1200p with just I don't know

maybe quality on medium should do pretty

well here yeah look at

that yeah so indoor areas you're going

to get you know really good frames here

on medium around 60 or so right quite

good I wonder if we can get native just

throw it on there for a

second primarily I just want to see what

we can get here I just want to you know

get a baseline kind of

thing yeah even natives 1200p medium

these AMD GPS are just becoming so

effective when you go to a a very

demanding area like balder's gate it'll

be more demanding but uh it's looking

pretty good let's actually turn it up so

we'll go to Native resolution here

1600p and uh maybe balanced FSR should

be fine to be

honest yeah 1600p balanced FSR and we're

getting you know that kind of frames a

lot of the game you're going to be

indoor areas or areas that aren't going

to be super populated you'll be getting

frames like

this right CPU GPU Apu basically is

pulling a lot of Watts 65 Watts there uh

this is medium but with performance but

we're at 1600p so it still looks good it

doesn't look muddy right if it was at

1200p it would look pretty bad look at

that look at those frames it's really

good this is an example of you know the

7845 the 8845 HS that's a high wattage

variant okay now we're in the most

challenging area of the game by far this

is an igpu killer so let's drop it down

to a reasonable setting here you could

go low but we'll try 1200p here uh we're

not going to any performance so we'll go

1200p balanced on medium and

see yeah when you're in the city of

balers gate you're going to need to drop

it down slightly Chuck you in the river

right it's just going to be a little bit

demanding here because it hits the GPU

and the CPU so hard basically the whole

Apu is getting slammed um you know you

come to other areas it'll not be too bad

that area there is really bad there

right you come into these areas it's

going to go up so just depends how where

you're going to play right when you're

in the city of balers gate end game it's

a very demanding

area it's a very demanding area of the

game it's so loud very demanding area of

the game you're going to want to play

with the settings when you're in you

know most of the game you're not going

to be here you can really just you know

play on in silent mode and just 1 1600p

with a performance FSR and you're going

to be good to go so yeah let's jump into

one more game though okay we'll do a

little bit of ghost of sushima now uh

what are we at for settings here I think

1200p yeah 1200p balanced FSR we'll see

how that looks High all right let's

bring that down so we'll go 1200p on uh

balance with medium I think it's going

to run just fine to be

honest yeah

this is the type game I mean you you

could play it at 30 but you're going to

want to have like good lows 45 is

probably more acceptable with lows of 23

because it's pretty action-packed it's

not like a shooter or anything like that

you know it's not like pinpoint accuracy

but it's still pretty fastpac from time

to time so this would be good a good

experience here you know 40 to 50 or

so it's a pretty demanding area that's

why I'm hanging out here quite a bit

with all these leaves and things when we

come over here you'll see It'll really

hit the system we're up to full 60 watts

on the GPU on the Apu

there

so a little bit of a drop down with this

going on let's hit uh balance mode

probably won't really affect performance

much yeah it didn't do anything much

quieter though

throw down to silent so we're at 50 or

so let's see what silent does

here we dropped a little bit 50 down we

dropped about

10% yeah so I mean that's really the

writing on the wall I mean it's we know

what this GPU is capable of in this

system it's able to feed a lot of Watts

even silent mode is giving it 30 and it

is basically silent so you're going to

be able to do some pretty pretty serious

gaming on this I mean not going to be 4K

you know in the most demanding brand new

titles but in you know brand new

demanding titles like this you're going

to be able to play with reasonably good

settings and have a good experience and

then of course older games I mean you

know games from five six years ago

you're going toble to just really just

probably Max them out at, 1600p and have

no issues there okay well that's the

review of the laptop this is the

thinkbook 16 plus it's not available in

Canada I got it from China I imported it

of course it's you know comes in English

and everything so it's not a big deal if

you want to do that go for it uh this is

like the third or fourth laptop I've

imported from China uh I really wish

that Lenovo would bring this over here

you know they have the shaen idea pad 5

Pro with the OLED screen that I did a

review of gorgeous fantastic laptop the

thinkbook 14 plus which will actually be

filmed right after this but I've been

using it as a daily driver for about a

month to two months awesome laptop and

then there's the thinkbook 16 plus here

uh that I've also been using not as a

daily driver but I have been using it on

and off quite a bit for about a month or

so it's an awesome laptop all metal

design metal lid metal top metal bottom

great keyboard uh pretty good screen on

this too A lot of the times the think

books you can get over here in the West

in Canada and the US they're not very

good the think books will have like you

know 45% ntsc screens at 1,200 P like

that kind of garbage there like dim on

the 16 like they have the ThinkPad 16

thinkbook 16 right now uh for this year

um I haven't bought it because I'm not

super impressed by the screen it's a

1200 pie screen with low color space not

a fan this 16 plus here overcomes that

has a really nice screen 100% srgb 1600p

120 HZ refresh rate that's a nice screen

on a laptop of this quality like this

kind of you know mid tier but leaning

towards the higher end with you know all

this metal and everything uh good

speakers on it really good cooling on it

as well so uh you know this is a really

nice laptop if you're looking for one I

mean we can't get this over here you

could buy the think book 16 non plus uh

but you're not going to be able to get

the nice screen that this one has so

just be considerate of that you may want

to step up to like the 16p which is

thicker but it has really nice screen on

it or go with you know like something

else like an ID aad 5 Pro
