like this town has never seen

Matthews' supplies in my car,

so I'll swing by the clinic

So, Dr. Matthews looks a bit
different

- And he is all grown
up and very handsome!

[Cecilia giggling]

[Adele sighs]

supplies for Dr. Matthews.

you clear the waiting room.

home

before he comes into the

big, muscular arms around me

and gives me a quick adjustment.

- Well, that
wasn't so bad.

Although my family
medicine is a bit rusty.

I was supposed to meet my mom at

a traumatic experience.

I'm sure it has its challenges.

I get the chance to make
personal connections

with my patients,

and it makes me feel like
I'm a part of this community.

Plus a lot of attention from the
ladies.

And all the cakes and pies you
can eat.

- It has perks.

So how do you like being
a doctor in the big city

with all the best
technology and resources?

- I love it.

Very busy. Different set of
challenges.

I don't get cakes and pies
though.

- An exam costs one blueberry
pie.

It's a real racket I got going
on here.

So, how many surgeries do you do
a day?

- Mm, two or three on average,

plus all the paperwork that goes
with it,

plus seeing patients.

- Personal life?

- No.

[Adele laughs]

- Oh, gosh. What was I thinking?

So you're doing all this
yourself?

- Mostly.

Just the build out of the
interior.

But that all depends on funding.

As donations come in, I do more
work.

And your dad has been so
helpful.

- Yeah.

- Right now he's working
on a grant from the state,

and we have the bank involved.

As soon as that gets approved,

then we'll finally be
able to hire a contractor.

Then we'll really be able to get
to work.

- Well, what about investors
or a physicians group?

- That was the initial plan.

And we did have two groups
that were interested,

but they wanted us to affiliate

with the university health
system,

and that's exactly what I don't
wanna do.

- [Adele] Well, why not?

Then you'd have all the benefits
of the university system,

plus access to all the best
equipment and doctors, right?

- [Grant] And tied to
the insurance companies.

And then how would I
get free cakes and pies?

- Oh, Doctor Independent, huh?

[phone buzzing]

It's my mom. Probably in
trouble.

coffee.

Yeah, he's just showing me the
new clinic.

We're getting kind of tired of

giddy around Dr. Matthews.

They're always bringing him
food.

You know, he donates it
all to the food bank.

- Well, I would hope so.

There's no way he eats all that

and stays in that kind of shape.

- So you've noticed.

- Yes, Mom, he
is handsome.

- Do you think 300 is enough?

- How many people are
coming to this party?

Wait, are you and Daddy
paying for everything
yourselves?

- No, he has $82 left
in his campaign fund.

We're spending that, and
everything else is being
donated.

We have 18 casseroles, plenty of
desserts,

is donating his time.

to your father's campaign.
