This leg was a huge
improvement on the last,

but feel like we're going to burn

I think we're going to try
and enjoy it more,

and race well. That's really

some of these cities ever again.

I'd like to see more,

and I can't wait to
tell my kids, when I'm a dad,

about the great times
I had with my dad.

Argentina, Fred.

After 16 days in Brazil,

teams are heading to South America's
second largest country, Argentina -

land of the gauchos
and birthplace of the tango,

a journey of 2,250 kilometres to the
fourth checkpoint - Tigre.

On the outskirts of the capital,
Buenos Aires,

a riverside town of old-world charm,

sitting in a network of waterways
and islands

forming the Parana Delta.

All right, off to the bus garage.

We have to get on the red line,
I believe.

From here, we're going to go
down there. Six stops.

This way, this way, this way.

Fred has a weird knack of just
knowing his way around

metro systems
that he has never touched.

I'm enjoying just following him.

To reach Tigre, teams must decide
where to cross into Argentina.

They could continue to the
southern tip of Brazil,

then into Uruguay,
South America's priciest country

but with the allure of good
transport links and well-paid jobs.

Or venture west to make
an early break for the border,

travelling directly through
Argentina,

or even skirting through the corner
of Paraguay,

where the cost of living is cheaper

but transport
could be less reliable.

Well, Dad, what do you fancy?

I feel like we need more
experiences than just focusing

purely on the race.

I'm really attracted
to the family stay.

that are right on the kind of border

and it's the most spectacular
waterfall in the world.

And I feel like we've not had

a swift exit from Brazil

via the border city

before slipping into Argentina

Between 16 and 18 hours.

It's an epic bus journey again.

It's just, psychologically,
I can't even begin to describe it.

It's just like, imagine flying to
Australia every two days.

travelling on a bus.

Jeff and Freddy are finally
escaping Sao Paulo.

It's a shame that we had to
hang around for six hours.

But the way you navigate your way
around, like, busy city centres

that you've never actually even been
to, it's really impressive.

You notice things that no-one
in a million years would spot.

It's a skill that not
everybody has got,

and that might help guide you
towards a job.

I always get told my ADHD will
really help me in the future.

I don't really know how.

Truthfully, I don't like
working for other people

and being told what to do.

I just want to be my own boss.

I think I'm...I'm quite intelligent
and smart, but not school-smart.

Don't think I took much from that
whole school experience at all.

I think I only done two GCSEs,

so, actually,
pat on the back for that.

I got two out of two.

I'd like to do a lot with my life.

I just don't know what exactly,

and I feel like that's why I've kind
of put myself off not having a job.

Oh, it's the first time we've had
to open up a new bit of the map.

This is going to throw us a little
bit but we shouldn't let it.

This is going to be a long leg.

..and are plotting their way
out of Brazil.

There's so many different routes.

We could do Paraguay. Paraguay's
one of the cheapest countries.

Potentially. But I think the
transport links

will be better in Uruguay.

Even though it's more expensive,
we take the risk?

I think maybe we do.

I think, if we could get jobs in
Uruguay, then we won't have to worry

about it being a bit more expensive
cos we can top up our funds.

Uruguay is a risk that now,
halfway through,

I am willing to take,
because we need to race.

I'm going to the party.

Sights set on the celebrations,

cousins Kola and Mary Ellen have a
journey of over 1,100 kilometres

to reach Porto Alegre, in the far
south of Brazil, by tomorrow.

We're proud and we're Irish,
and if we had the opportunity

to go to a St Paddy's Day festival
and we said no,

we wouldn't be able to live it down.

Your mum would be like,
"Don't come home, don't come home."

Right.
St Patrick's Day, here we come.

Oh, yes. That's cool.

It's just so nice to see a train.

Husbands-to-be Scott and Sam
have travelled 400km

to Curitiba, taking in the sights
before heading to Uruguay.

It's nice not to be on a bus.
It really is.

The city sits on a plateau more than
900 metres above sea level.

With numerous landscaped parks,
it's known as the Green Capital.

Steeped in history, from traditional
colonial architecture

to its Serra Verde express line.

Think of how different this is
to Sao Paulo yesterday.

Yeah, that busy metro.
It's two extremes.

Constructed in the late
19th century,

13 tunnels blast through
mountain rock,

cutting deep into the
Atlantic rainforest.

I've always wanted to
go on a train ride like this.

This is exactly
what I imagined it to be.

Oh...

God! I went funny then.

Oh, I can't look down there.

Ooh, wow! Oh, wow.

It just feels as if
we're floating in the air.

We are so far up, we're almost
at the top of these mountains.

Wow! Oh, ho-ho-ho!

This is one of the most incredible
views I've ever seen in my life.

Not many couples get to do
what we're doing right now. No.

So glad that we got to do it
together. Mm.

Bet you didn't think you'd be doing
this with me seven years ago.

No. I couldn't get you to go
anywhere with me for a while.

SCOTT CHUCKLES

The moment I met Sam,

everything just went blurry.

It felt different than before.

You weren't keen on me
at the start, were you?

I was... didn't say not keen.

I just...

It went a bit too fast too quick.
Right.

So, I just had to put
the brakes on a little bit.

We'd both come out of quite
long-term relationships,

and I was full steam ahead.

He was not.

So, he was like, "Erm, I'm not sure
I can do this right now."

I was gutted.

Scott asked me, "Do you just want
to be friends?"

And I had to be honest
and say,

"I think I do at the moment."

And Scott, rightfully at that time,
said,

"I can't do this."

And there was about six to seven
months where he didn't talk to me.

I was hoping that he would look back
and go,

"I really miss that fun that we had,
and he's such a nice person."

It wasn't easy, you know.

Like, I found it so hard not to just
text you or pick up the phone.

It was a risk,

but I couldn't think of anything
else that I could do.

I think, over that time,
I missed him more and more,

and I think I realised
what I was letting go.

All worked out, though, didn't it?

It did. It worked out in the end,

and here we are in Brazil,

two months from getting married.

Coming away from this, we've had
such an amazing experience,

and I think it has just
reinforced my love for Scott.

Things in the last six months
have been ridiculous busy,

where I sometimes I don't see him
for more than an hour or two

from one week to the next.

This has been the reconnection
that we needed

before we do it
for the rest of our lives.

635km to the west...

Holy Moley!

..after their 16-hour night bus...

Our last memory of Brazil will be
these incredible waterfalls,

and I think that's going to be
really nice.

Two buses to get there.

I always say
it's three forms of transport

to get anywhere worth seeing.

..Kelly and Jeremy have reached
the Triple Frontier border,

planning a direct course
through Argentina,

and have inched ahead of Jeff
and Freddy en route to Paraguay.

Whilst leading the charge down the
Brazilian coast to Uruguay,

Kola and Mary Ellen are halfway
through their 21-hour journey

to the St Patrick's Day parade.

It's three hours ahead in Ireland.

Our family's
definitely in the pub by now.

A million percent.

Most people don't know I'm Irish,

because, obviously,
I have a very African name

and a very English accent,

so you wouldn't automatically think
my mum's Irish.

No.

My mum was born in Kerry,
and my dad's Nigerian.

Lovely fusion of cultures.

Erm, weirdly,

so far but so close...

..in...in the passion.

Very dedicated, very loving people.

And I love my heritage.

Growing up as a mixed-race man,

it wasn't that easy
all the time.

You know, it was...

Especially in Peckham, like,
you had to kind of lean

towards more of the black culture.
Yeah.

In the '70s, when, you know,

there was turmoil in this country,

South London was a safe haven
for Irish

and for people of black culture.

Erm, and that's, you know,
that's how my mum and dad met.

In a pub.

When I was young, I didn't even
know race and religion.

I didn't see that.

I just saw my friends as my friends.

But then you get older
and things change.

In my social groups, it was
kind of seen more as, you know,

you have to choose one side,

you know, rather than just be what
you actually are,

which is mixed-race,
and that's perfectly fine.

People would say stuff like,
"Just because your mum's white,

"it doesn't mean that you're white.

"You're black, you're black, you're
black," do you know what I mean?

It made me kind of like push
aside my Irish heritage.

But growing up and becoming a man
and, you know,

and thinking with my own brain,

I always say, "Oh, yeah,
I'm Irish and Nigerian."

How many counties in Ireland
do you know?

And so, at ten, I got diagnosed with

A lot of teachers had noticed,
very fidgety,

that I didn't mean to misbehave,
but I didn't know how to really cope

with everything that was going on.

catapulting them into
Uruguay, to Montevideo,

just the other side of
the Argentinian border.

We have decided to go through
Uruguay, which we are hoping

is a bit faster,
but it's a bit more expensive,

so we found a job to help
top up our funds.

I'm excited that we're on the way
out of Brazil into another country.

leaving the campsite...

That was really nice,
that little experience.

stuff, but we've had a slow start to

this leg and we need to

that are going back to where we've

The Friendship Bridge
opened in 1965,

linking Brazil with its much
smaller neighbour, Paraguay.

Known as the heart of South America,

it's one of only two landlocked
countries in the continent.

Paraguay is going to be really
good, budget-wise. Yep.

I don't think they see
many English people.

I'm absolutely cooking.

With living and transport costs up
to 30% cheaper than other

South American countries, Jeff
and Freddy plan to take advantage

by cutting through the edge of the

country on their way to Argentina.
