I had been researching
Twin Flames Universe for a few months.

your children, take them away from you.

I noticed how they were treating people,
or just how immature they acted.

Mm-mm, I don't think so.

I've gone and made her cry
'cause I made fun of her.

He tries to make it seem
like it's tough love.

You idiot!

And I lovingly call you an idiot.

He really was just a dick,
like, unnecessarily a dick.

- [in high voice] You crazy bitch.
- [Shaleia laughing]

I don't think I want to know you.

Do I think that he does drugs?
[chuckles] I don't know.

Trust me to guide you, to lead you.

Jeff has some really deranged advice
to people

whose twin flames are trying to set
boundaries, slash not interested in them.

Dissolve that marriage.
Don't worry about that spouse.

Like, a person I interviewed
who violated a restraining order.

She went to jail,
and the love of her life sent her there.

Is this the truth of what happened?

[crying] Yeah.

It can be heartbreaking when people
listen, and it doesn't work out for them.

I grew up in the Netherlands.

I have a Dutch dad and a Moroccan mom, so
I grew up between two different cultures.

I wasn't really sure for a long time
what I wanted to do,

but eventually moved
to Amsterdam to study.

I had said to myself,

I am done with casual connections,
and I'm just ready for something real,

something more solid,
that I can actually build on.

And then I think a week later,
I was in the club. I met someone.

First thing that I intuitively felt
is that he is the one.

We just have this instant connection.

Over time, we started seeing each other.

I knew there was something about this
relationship that was something special

because it was so spiritual.

And that's what Jeff
and Shaleia talk about.

My twin flame, we had a great connection,
but we didn't have a proper relationship.

How long have you known him, though?

- Two years and four months.
- [Jeff] Mm-hmm.

There was a problem, and I couldn't
really find anyone else to help me.

I felt really hurt
because he made his girlfriend pregnant.

- [Jeff] Mm-hmm.
- A few months ago, for the second time.

And I didn't expect that
because I really thought that he would

think of us as a potential couple soon.

[Jeff] How long has he been
with his girlfriend now?

14 years.

- [Jeff] 14 years?
- [Shaleia] Jeez, ugh.

And they're bored with each other,
and that's why they're having a kid.

Maybe they think...

But then when he chose
to have another child with her,

I really thought,
"Why would you do it after you met me?"

He recognizes we confirmed
him as your true twin flame, right?

Yes.

I was definitely very confused.
I didn't know what the hell was going on.

So why is he okay with that?
Like, why would you do that?

Maybe she's so comfortable with him,

she doesn't really want to have
a baby with anyone else.

And she knows that he's falling away
because he's met his one true love.

What?

It felt really bad to me,
but in the end, they told me,

"Hey, this is what it is, and you got
to listen to us because we know better.

You cannot trust yourself. You have
to listen to us because we know better.

We are above you."

So your next step
is to be his best friend.

And you can sit down
and talk to him and say,

"Let's not have a third baby
with your girlfriend, please.

If we want another baby, let's do it
together, or whatever you decide."

Yeah, Yeah.

Let's start a fam over here.

- Mm-hmm.

People are listening

acknowledge the connection,
but he was so focused on trying to be...

instead of just being his fucking self.

I did send him messages.

I did reach out to him.

I did initiate...

...even though he wouldn't respond.

I felt like with the Twin Flame community,

that that was something
I was supposed to do.

As we dive deeper and deeper
into the inner work,

more and more is revealed.

- And so I'd like to call on Arcelia

- to get us started today.
- Hi.

How are you feeling right now,
Miss Arcelia?

I guess I fear
that I'm not doing a good enough job.

[Jeff] This is where we progress.

- This is where God moves through us.
- [Arcelia] Yeah.

It's safe to accept
your current situation.

I kept following the work
and having faith in their work

because I thought
that's what I was supposed to do.

But over time, I found out
my twin flame was with somebody else,

and I was really hurt by that.

But they kept trying
to convince me to keep pursuing him.

Doesn't have to be painful.

[Jeff] You're afraid that you're going
to have to do work

- to be with your man?
- Yeah.

And if I didn't have
this twin flame shit in my head,

I would have realized that
he had his own issues to work through.

I would've been like,
"Okay, I believe you.

I'm not going to fuck with it.
I'm just going to let this go. It's cool."

All we're doing right now is just
the mirror exercise,

bringing love to the places that we love.

[Arcelia]
So I was encouraged to keep doing things.

Do your inner work
and do the mirror exercise,

and the outside will heal
and come into play.

[Shaleia] Are you upset?
Or is something bothering you?

Do the mirror exercise.

[Shaleia reading]

I'm upset with Bob
because he is rejecting me.

The mirror exercise
is a method of introspection

that Twin Flames Universe didn't invent,
but is their signature teaching.

[Shaleia reading]

I am upset with myself
because I am rejecting myself.

[Alice] Basically, when you're having
a problem in your life,

you say, "Well, actually I caused
this problem. Like, what did I do?"

If someone broke up with you,
you ask yourself,

"Why did I break up with myself?"

[Shaleia] Step three,
give yourself the love that you need.

Go within yourself to the part
that is upset and love yourself there.

But that's what Jeff and Shaleia believe.
I mean, everything from medical issues

to the fact that you didn't
get the job that you want

and you want more money than you have.

To them, all of these things are your
fault and can be solved with inner work.

The mirror exercise.

[Carly] Like the bald guy
from Germany with his cats,

- he's like, "Oh, my cats don't like me."
- I'm not sure why they are running away.

[Jeff] Well, you need to look
at the relationship.

- Yeah.
- [Carly] And Jeff was like,

"Do the mirror exercise with your cats."

And I was like,
"What the hell are you talking about?"

- They're just responding to your energy.
- Yeah.

- Just like our twin flames, right?
- Yeah, I'm the boss.

- [overlapping chatter]
- [Jeff] Go grab 'em. Yeah.

- Go grab your cat.
- [Shaleia] Go grab your cat.

- They knew you were talking about them.
- [Jeff] Yeah, you're the boss.

This is Fabian, [laughs] trying to have
a relationship with his cat.

And then the next video was like,
"I did the mirror exercise with my cats,

and they are really loving now."
And I'm like, "What?"

Briana would really work out
getting to the core

of what she's feeling and thinking,
and I didn't quite understand it,

but I know it's a concept
a lot of people believe in.

-Step one, what are you upset about?

Take all the nouns and pronouns
and point them to yourself.

I'm upset that I'm ruining my life,
or I'm ruining myself.

Okay, very good.

She would explain, somehow she felt
she needed to be healed,

and she needed to keep repeating
the mirror exercises very frequently,

more than several times a day.

So I see the part of myself that is
flailing, causing the upset, screaming,

and I just simply be with her,
and I simply love her.

I think she started very innocently
and fell into this trap.

And the more she got involved, the more
she bought into what they were selling.

[Jeff]
And you worked through all the upsets.

The only reason you experienced pain
and upset is because you're not moving

through your mirror work,
it really is the core...

[Alice] Jeff and Shaleia were getting
more and more controlling.

And the mirror exercise
was a big part of that control.

I interviewed people in Australia,
Romania, Spain, Mexico.

And the more I looked
into Twin Flames Universe,

the more I wanted to know
what their real motivation was.

Did they actually believe
all their spiritual teachings,

or was this just a way to make money?

[Jeff] But I want to check in
with Anne and Catrina

and borrow from some of their mastery
and wisdom here.

[Catrina]
Jeff and Shaleia, they really needed us.

Their whole entire value proposition
was finding your ultimate lover.

And they needed a couple.
[laughs]

Anne and Katrina, I mean,
they're just testament, once again,

that it's not impossible.

We were the couple
they hung their hat on.

So Anne and I got engaged.

- [clapping]
- [Shaleia] Oh, my God!

- [Jeff laughs]
- [Shaleia] Oh, my God! Congratulations!

So we just went and bought matching
engagement rings.

[Shaleia] Aw!

There was not a structure to the
organization at all at that point.

It was just Jeff and Shaleia and a handful
of people coming to these classes,

and they were adding more
and more people to the community.

And more and more people
were showing up to these meetups.

- Can y'all see me?
- [Shaleia] We can.

- [Jeff] We see you just fine. [laughs]
- [Shaleia] I see you.

[all laughing]

Jeff did reach out, and he was like,

"Listen, you really have
an opportunity here."

You're being called to help Twin Flames

into a harmonious union because
you guys have achieved a harmonious union

with your true twin flame.

- [Catrina] Yes.
- And now, you see that it's beautiful,

and it's time for you to share it
with others.

[Catrina] Jeff wanted us to help
build a coaching program

with Twin Flames Universe.

We were both mothers of young children.

We had ended up in this situation
where we were sort of trapped

between being moms
and needing to earn a living.

We needed to figure out how we were
going to survive financially. [chuckles]

He really sold us
on coming alongside them.

I thought coaching could be
a pretty great opportunity,

and all the money
that we made coaching was ours.

People came forward from the community

and wanted to develop coaching practices.

- Hello! My name is Carmen.

[Alice] The coaches are
like little mini Jeff and Shaleia's.

They do their own therapy groups.

I think that's where a lot of people
are really wounded is support.

And they were offering
one on one coaching.

Coaches do keep all of the income
that they make from classes.

I thought it was great
that people were building

something for themselves
that was maybe more aligned

with what they wanted
to do with their lives.

[Carly]
I just wanted to help people.

That's why I was like, "Okay,
let's become a coach. Let's do this."

[Jeff] What I hear, the word on the street
is, you guys are doing pretty well.

A lot of people are seemingly
working with you guys

Because of our visibility
from within the community,

people would reach out to us for coaching.

[Catrina] We were supporting ourselves
pretty well, we're making decent income.

It went really well for a while, and there
was a lot of freedom and independence

for anyone who was on that journey.

But over time,
things became more controlled.

Are you ready to work?

Well, I'm here, so let's do it.

- [chuckles]
- [Jeff] Sounds good.

So what will you do? What's your purpose?
What do you care about most?

Every moment I want
to be performing on a stage.

I'm really good.

- I'm born with the voice.
- [Jeff] Sure.

You're talking about it,
it started to sound...

and then all the other love
drained from it.

That's not what you want.
You don't want to do that right now.

You don't want to be on stage.

- I don't?
- No, you don't.

Don't you want to be an Ascension coach?

You can either follow your heart...

...or be unhappy.

There's only one way to happiness.
It's following your heart.

Being an Ascension coach
is quite in your heart.

- [Shaleia] May you choose wisdom.

The coaching program
and getting more people to sign up

as coaches is a way for Jeff and Shaleia
to supercharge growth and profit.

Coaches are expected
to recruit more coaches,

and when a new coach is recruited,

then they're asked to buy
Jeff and Shaleia's video series.

100% of the profits
of that go to Jeff and Shaleia.

And for one person
to buy the library of classes

is like several thousand dollars,
it's really expensive.

And that's where Jeff and Shaleia
made most of their money.

Jeff and I "dated".

Which, you know,
an eighth grade relationship. [laughs]

- [head slap]
- Oh!

[Amy] When Jeff was in high school,
I knew he wanted to go into business.

He's always trying to do something new.

Making a lot of money with minimal effort,
that's what Jeff wanted.

He's always wanted that.

When he was in Hawaii,
I hadn't seen Jeff in five years, perhaps.

So I was missing him, of course.

- What's up, guys?
- [Eric] We still kept in contact.

We were able to video chat.

And then in 2015,
we get word from Jeff that says,

"Hey, Shaleia and I
are moving back to Michigan.

[Shaleia laughs]

We're gonna live with my parents
until we are stable again,

and then we'll figure out
what to do after that."

[Shaleia] Do you wanna show
the people your new haircut?

Reveal-io!
[chuckles]

[Alice] They were trying to start this
online business being spiritual teachers.

And I'm sure the family was like,
"What are you doing, Jeff?

You have a business degree."

It didn't work out, and the family
eventually asked them to leave.

We see a Facebook message
go out, say,

"Hey, everybody, Shaleia and I are
urgently looking for a new place to live."

So I said, "All right, let's roll
the dice. What could happen?"

"Normal" is not a word that I would
describe for that part of my life,

when Jeff and Shaleia lived with me.

They ate hot dogs, three meals a day.
Breakfast, lunch, dinner were hot dogs.

I haven't eaten a hot dog since 2015.
I can't do it.

There were moments of weirdness
punctuated by other moments of weirdness.

- I am...
- I am...

- ...one with my home planet.
- ...one with my home planet.

It was right around the time
that they lived with me that they started

posting videos to YouTube of the two
of them forming the foundations

of what would become Twin Flames.

Jeff and I are on the back porch,

and he says,
"I've got my next big business idea.

So you know how illnesses,
physical illnesses,

they're basically all caused
by some mental trauma

that was caused to people
when they were children."

And I said, "Okay."

And he said,
"Well, I found out that I have a gift.

I can talk to people, and I can
draw out this this mental trauma.

I had my first client just last night.

We had a great 20-minute session
on Facebook Messenger,

and I cured her of multiple sclerosis."

There's no reasoning
with that kind of statement.

Jeff had a website that he was advertising

that he could cure
various illnesses and even cancer.

$30 to cure a headache,
all the way up to curing cancer.

A friend of ours from from high school,
he posted and said,

"Hey, Jeff, as you probably remember,

my mother passed away from cancer
when we were in high school.

And I can't help but feel like
you're taking advantage of people

in their most vulnerable moment."

And Jeff says in a reply comment, he says,

"I'm very sorry that I did not have
my gift in high school,

so I could not have
cured your mother then."

So I'm like, all right,
I got to do something about this.

I got to get them out of the house.

There is no way he believes
that he can cure cancer.

There's no way.

It's a gimmick. It's a business.
His business is manipulating people.

You've raised my attention.
Let's just be really clear.

We're going to be really fucking wealthy.

A great deal of wealth
is appropriate for me.

[Kay] I struggled a lot
with my mental health growing up.

I started feeling depressed
when I was ten years old.

I think I suffered so many traumas.
I've had sexual abuse when I was a kid.

I've had bullying,
I've had a violent encounters as a kid,

not very, not very fun.

I thought Twin Flames Universe
was going to help people, like,

heal their traumas, heal their pain,

and your life just exponentially
growing and getting better.

You're going to manifest more money.

You're going to know
what's your life purpose.

You're going to meet your other half,
and you're going to be happy.

Like, imagine.

I think this group really attracts people
who are looking to heal,

who want answers about their pain.

But you have to pay all this money.

What would you pay to have what we have?

Like what?
Honestly, put a price on it.

I would do anything it takes.
I don't give a fuck, take my money.

[Kay] I was paying $111 every month.
That's the cheapest class that they have.

I didn't have a job at the time,

so I was just doing anything
to pay for the classes.

Chores around the house,

I would even clean my sister's room
if she would pay me.

I would have coaches message me,
"You should upgrade your class to this."

I said,
"I would love to join those classes,

but I cannot afford that at the moment."

They would be like, "Well, you are
a child of God. God loves you.

So God is going to provide you
with the money for this class."

A lady literally walked me
through the process

for signing up for a PayPal credit card.

I was 18.
I never owned a credit card in my life.

She was pushing me to do it.
Thank God I got declined.

It seems more that they're interested
in the money

then they are interested in helping people
and making sure that they're okay.

it absolutely is not something
that I decided I would do on my own.

And you're coming along for the ride.

Come on, guys, get in Santa's sleigh, and
he's going to give you all the presents.

It was just happening because there were
enough people that were desperate

for belonging in the group.

[Lorraine] We all want to help people.
Makes you feel good to help others.

And I started off doing it like that.
I'm volunteering my free time.

You are going to have to meet
a standard, and here's the standard.

Our website
has to look really fucking good.

They have a director of HR.
They have a VP of sales.

They have marketing people.
They have social media managers.

It has like an entire corporate hierarchy
of people working for free.

I'm not going to do my part
until I know I've got really good people

and really good teams
who are willing to work.

[Lorraine]
If you're doing a good job,

Jeff and Shaleia start
to give you more responsibility,

and they start to give you status,

which kind of makes it feel okay
that you're not getting paid.

This isn't like a wish list of,
"Oh, that'd be really nice if..."

This is reality.

They wanted me, I remember
Shaleia literally said like,

"Oh, the LGBT branch is your branch."

I need you to build the website.

I need you to design and graphic
and all the beautiful stuff.

I need a full web team to do the most
beautiful website you've ever seen.

My payment was supposed to be,

"Oh, it's just rewarding
doing this for TFU."

And if you can't honestly
uphold your position,

get the fuck out of it
because we're going to bulldoze you over.

[Jeff] We come to you live from our brand
new home in Farmington Hills, Michigan.

It is beautiful, gorgeous.
We are happy in it.

We made it.

They changed tremendously
as the group got bigger.

It was almost as if you could
draw a line in the sand.

- They became very materialistic.
- I've never had perfume before.

[Shaleia]
Our Christmas tree.

[Alice] As soon as Jeff and Shaleia
started to make

even a little bit of money
off of their online business,

they immediately, like,
flaunted anything they had.

Right there is a brand new
Subaru Outback.

That car is a miracle for us.

They have come from this rat hole
apartment in a bad part of Detroit,

and they moved it on up.

We're coming from the ghetto
into the rich club.

And they were just so thrilled
with themselves.

This morning, I woke up in a $11,000 bed
with $350 pair of sheets.

My bed is not a billionaire's bed,
but it's certainly upper middle class.

And as they started to make more money,
the materialism really amped up.

This is the Porsche.
It's $100,000 Porsche.

One of the finest Corvettes that you can
possibly buy today. It's a 2019...

I was just sitting there thinking,
"This will pass."

[Shaleia] Who doesn't want to see
a beautiful car drive by them?

I feel good about giving in that way.

[Catrina]
But it didn't pass.

- Lifestyles of the rich and famous.
- [laughs]

It just got louder.

- How you doing?
- I'm buying a Porsche!

They were just so overjoyed
about their situation

that they couldn't help making it
the center of the community.

We're not just millionaires,
we're multi-millionaires.

- I'm a fucking millionaire. [laughs]
- I know, I know.

And things became
more and more controlled.

The more money there was,
the more control. And that was very clear.

[Alice] At first, Twin Flames Universe
is just about finding romance,

and then it's like,
"Oh, no, it's your whole life."

Basically, they're just trying to expand
their tentacles

into every possible area of life
that their members could have

and have those areas be controlled
by Twin Flames Universe.

If you do not trust us
and this teaching intimately,

you will not be able to use it
to carry forward

into your harmonious union and beyond.

You need this.

You need this.

Jeff told me that he had studied
neurolinguistic programing.

Neurolinguistic programing
is a form of hypnosis,

and I know that he's studied
how to utilize that on people.

And I think it was about demonstrating

that he had control over us.

We will not tolerate
your resistance to us anymore.

We are beyond that with you.

[Catrina] The mirror exercise was probably
the most controlling of their techniques.

I'm upset at myself
because I'm avoiding myself.

- Is there any truth to that statement?
- [sighs]

Yes.

My twin flame,
who I was dating for a year and a half,

he put his hands around my neck,
and I didn't think he was going to stop.

Twin Flame coaching told me that,
"Oh, it's okay.

He's trying to be your divine masculine."

I was emotionally overwhelmed,
very damaged, very traumatized.

I was looking for help.

My coach told me
to do the mirror exercise.

If you're constantly being told
all of this is your fault,

you really kind of lose track of reality
and who you really are.

[member] I feel like the only way
to get out is to get away,

because he just keeps bullying me.

That's...
Who puts you in that position?

I don't want him.
I cannot stand the way he acts.

Oh, you don't want yourself,

and that's why you're pushing yourself
out of your own home?

- No, I don't act like that.
- Yes, you do. [laughing]

- You're acting like it right now.
- No, I don't!

- No, I don't...
- It's mirrored.

- [laughing]
- No, it's not.

You're just fucking with my family.

[Alice] I was like,
"What the hell is this?"

It's actually really bad
because it's not always your fault.

You don't always choose
the bad things that happen to you.

And if you're taught that you always did,

that puts people in a position
where it sets them up for further trauma.

Oh. [sighs]

I just feel...

[Lorraine] I started having issues
with my twin flame.

I feel a bit confused, you know.

[Lorraine] I'm doing everything.
I'm dedicating my soul,

I'm training,
I'm in the coaching sessions.

I'm also volunteering my free time.
Why is it not working out?

Pretty much the entire time
I've been in this community,

there's just been nothing.

People were beginning to question
if their program was working for anyone.

I feel like I don't have enough time.

I don't have time for this shit.
I need it now.

They were just going in fucking circles
with this mirror exercise bullshit.

[member] How are you supposed
to have a conversation

if you're just throwing everything
right back in my face?

Their promise was
if you come into our group...

If you are willing to follow
the Twin Flame Ascension path...

And you do the mirror exercise...
