how to update firmware tutorial

Hello everybody welcome to another

channel on this video wait a minute

video on this channel today we're going

to be talking about how to update the

firmware on the Canon EOS R7 and this uh

this tutorial is going to be moving

pretty quickly but what I'm going to do

is I'm going to put a pause between each

step so what you can do is you can watch

the step pause it and do the step resume

it follow the instructions pause it and

so on and so forth because uh yeah I've

been told these tutorials go by way too

fast but it's pretty simple stuff so if

you need to pause pause if you can just

watch it and do it you do that you do

whatever works for you so these are the

five steps you need to follow in order

to update the firmware on your R7 one

set the camera to P mode two download

the newest firmware three format your SD

card in the camera four copy firmware

onto the memory card five install the

firmware on the camera all right and

here's a little bonus tip before we get

started pop into your menu go to the

wrench icon go all the way to page six

scroll down to the bottom and check out

your current firmware version number now

it's important to make a mental note of

this so after you do your firmware

update you know that the firmware update

has gone through and installed on the

camera because the version number will

have changed so that's a quick little

bonus tip now let's get started

alright so step two let's download the

firmware because if we don't have the

firmware we can't update the camera so

let's go to

usa.canon.com here's the website

obviously it might be different in your

part of the world I'm also going to put

a direct link Down Below in the

description so you can link directly to

the firmware download page but if you

want to find it on your own go to the

website click on support

click on cameras

click on EOS digital cameras

click more if the R7 doesn't show up and

then here it is eos R7 click on the R7

we want to go to software and drivers

click on that

and then here you'll find all the

firmwares that usually come in mac and

PC versions I'm using a PC so I'm going

to go over here to where it says I agree

to the terms and conditions click on

that and download

all right so now let's extract the

firmware from the zip file similar

process on a Mac and a PC right click on

the file hit extract all extract now

it's going to extract the zip file and

we'll get this folder right here and in

this folder we'll find another folder

with a PDF on how to update the firmware

but what we really need here is the dot

fir file that's the firmware itself and

that's what we have to get onto the R7

suggests use a memory card between 32

and 128 gigabytes in capacity so we're

going to be using this one right here

now make sure there is nothing on this

memory card because we are going to be

formatting it in order to put the

firmware on it once the firmware is

installed on the camera you can go ahead

and format the card again and then start

using it like a normal card all right

let's get going and pop the memory card

into the camera

so open up your menu go to the wrench

icon page number one go to format card

format the card

and take the memory card out of the

camera

pop the memory card into your card

reader or computer

alright so here we have the freshly

formatted memory card on the right side

and here we have the extracted zip file

folder on the left side we take the fir

file we drag and drop that onto the

memory card don't do anything fancy

don't put it in any subfolders or

anything like that just put it right in

there in the root directory and that is

it

and pop the memory card into the camera

all right here we go Moment of Truth

time to update the firmware on your

camera all you have to do is go to the

menu go to the orange tab go to page six

scroll down to the bottom where it says

firmware click on that now it's going to

ask you if you want to update the

firmware on your camera or your lens

obviously if you want to update the

firmware on your lens that's how you do

it but we're going to update the

firmware on the camera so we select that

current firmware version is one zero one

update firmware hit OK

and now we wait

it takes about five minutes or so for

the firmware to update and when it's

done you're done

hit okay

and now we hit OK

and if we check the menu

we can see here that the version number

has changed so firmware is good to go

all right and that's it you are now

updated and ready to go take your new I

guess new old and your renewed R7 and go

out there and get inspired and just

enjoy the camera enjoy the process of

taking photos and videos and go out

there and be a Creator and share your

stuff on social media and have fun with

it because that's what this is all about

it's just about having fun and enjoying
