I know the technique Blink takes advantage of an opponent's blind spot.

It requires your opponent to believe you've disappeared,

which the fighter accomplishes by syncing their movements

to the viewer's blinking eyes.

This move has appeared in echoes across many martial arts styles,

including karate.

I'm quite familiar with your trick. [grunts]

It won't work on me.

[Genzan] The Solitary Shadow Style doesn't have a history.

[Kuroki] What are you saying?

Solitary Shadow Style has been around for more than 400 years.

GENZAN TAIRA SOLITARY SHADOW STYLE

[Genzan] If you go by the dates, sure.

But in reality, most of the followers were killed In the war we had just ended.

And their techniques were largely killed off with them.

I'm a descendant of the head of that style.

I've searched for ancient manuscripts to try to reconstruct some of his techniques.

Unfortunately, I've only succeeded on a few of them.

[Kuroki] Indeed.

And I'm sure time has forced any surviving techniques

to evolve into something different as well.

[gulps]

But I believe that at least one of them has remained the same.

[Genzan] According to my research,

only two techniques are still known to exist in the modern era.

One of them is a stepping technique that is referred to as "Blink."

The other is a twisting punch known by many as "Rakshasa's Palm."

[Kuroki] You really wanna say this to someone you might end up facing?

[Genzan] Humility doesn't suit you.

I've already determined

that if I should ever try to use Rakshasa's Palm on you, it won't work.

And I don't think Blink would do any good either.

We may only have two moves now,

but I'm going to incorporate them into a new style.

[Genzan] I took a new kid under my wing recently.

He's got talent.

And I'm not just saying that.

I'd feel bad if I only had two moves that I could teach him.

Trust me. You'll be hearing about Solitary Shadow Style again.

RAKSHASA'S PALM

[Kuroki] Hmm? I need to watch out for Rakshasa's Palm.

This modified version has more twisting of the wrist than the original from Genzan.

[Kuroki] This has made it far more lethal to deal with.

It looks like Kuroki needs to go on the defense.

[grunting]

[Kuroki] The version of Rakshasa's Palm you've created

has larger motions than the original.

This makes it more damaging, but easier to predict.

You're not able to fully capitalize on the effectiveness of the move

unless you also pair it with Blink.

But I can see through that party trick.

So you're gonna have to try harder than that if you want to surpass me.

[grunting]

-Whoa! -[all gasp]

-[growls softly] -[grunting]

[Kaede] That's pulled from Niko Style. Ohma used it before!

[mysterious music playing]

Well, now you've gone and piqued my curiosity, kid.

Who taught you the move you just used against me?

[Kiryu grunts]

[Kuroki] His style is different now.

[Kiryu snarls]

[Kiryu grunts]

[mysterious music continues]

[Kiryu] It all started on that that day.

Ohma Tokita.

The day I met a god!

[music fades]

ILLEGALLY OCCUPIED ZONE AKA "THE INSIDE," SHIKI WARD

[narrator] Setsuna Kiryu, 11 years old.

He was held for years as a prisoner

deep within the bowels of a black market organ smuggling ring.

This was done at the request of his father.

You see, his father was sick.

He had recently received an organ transplant.

The operation itself appeared to be successful.

It caused the illness to go into remission.

But that was temporary.

So his father developed a plan.

He paid a prostitute an exorbitant sum of cash

to be a surrogate for him.

And from there, Setsuna was born,

merely glorified cattle to be a stock of organs for his father.

As he continued to grow, his mind began to poison and twist.

He thought of himself as broken and wrong.

He firmly believed he deserved to die.

To ensure her silence, his mother had been killed.

And soon enough, it was time for him to be dissected.

[groaning]

[narrator] It was on this stage that he first became aware of Ohma Tokita.

[snarls]

Huh?

[Kuroki] The footwork. Niko Style?

That's Flashfire!

[gasps]

[Kaede] I recognize that move from Ohma's first round.

He does know Niko Style. My suspicions were right.

[Shion] That's a surprise. What the hell is this guy up to?

[rock music playing]

He's bleeding!

It's just a flesh wound.

[grunting]

[Kiryu laughs]

[Kiryu grunts]

[narrator] Though their meeting was momentous,

it was entirely by chance.

The organ smuggling ring that was holding him

was the very thing that brought them together.

The conflict started when the organization

tried inching its harvesting into Ohma's territory.

Or at least land that Ohma thought of as his.

In direct retaliation, Ohma decided that he would attack their base of operations.

When it was over, Ohma had barely even registered Setsuna's presence

and simply left him behind after finishing the job.

[Kiryu breathes sharply]

[narrator] However, Setsuna's experience had been very different.

Setsuna truly believed

that Ohma was a god sent from the skies to punish the men that had wronged him.

Taking advantage of the confusion within the organization,

Setsuna ran away.

More accurately, he ran after Ohma.

Setsuna continued to live a life deep in the Shadows.

All in the hopes that he might meet his god again.

Setsuna chose to live his early years as a male prostitute.

He wanted to make sure he was protected.

Years later, Setsuna and the man he took as his lover

would leave to live a normal life.

He eventually found his father's home.

The man who had kept him in storage.

[man groans]

[narrator] Setsuna's father was wildly richer than anyone else he knew,

so he killed him, and took his money.

Using the wealth and connections he stole before murdering his father,

Setsuna did everything he could in the hopes of tracking down Ohma.

After two long years,

Setsuna was finally able to find the god he desperately wanted.

[Niko] No! That was real bad.

You're supposed to relax more into what you're doing

when you use Flow Control Form.

Ohma, you keep tensing up your shoulders way too much.

[Ohma] Shut up!

[Niko] Come on. Try giving what I said a shot.

Here, I'll spot you if you want.

[Kiryu gasps]

[Kiryu] What the hell is this? Is that…

Is that what a god is supposed to look like?

Oh.

I've wasted all this time looking for you,

and this is what I found?

[Niko] Enough of that. Stop complaining.

-Just give it a shot. -[snarling]

[Kiryu] It was you.

You're the one who corrupted my perfect god.

[narrator] After that day,

Setsuna slipped back into the shadows to search for more power.

[Genzan] Hey kid, can you move?

But if you still wanna learn under me, then get your ass up.

[Kiryu] That move you just did,

[Kiryu gasps and groans]
