(eerie ominous music)
- Max.
(dramatic orchestral music)
Mail.
Pics.
Computers.
Trash.
Max, mail, pics,
computers, trash.
Max, mail, pics,
computers, trash.
Max, mail, pics,
computers, trash.
Max, mail, pics,
computers, trash.
Max, mail, pics, computers, trash!
Max, buddy, wake up!
Max, we gotta go!
(panting)
- [Max] Wait, what are you doing?
(dramatic orchestral music)
What?
- [Jack] Do you have shoes on?
- [Max] Hey, why are you taking my clothes?
- Out Max.
We have to get out.
- You are dreaming or sleepwalking or doing something weird.
That's mine!
- Do you need a belt?
I got you one.
- What are you doing?
I!
- You're leaving Max. - I'm leaving?
- We gotta get out.
I'm getting you food.
You can't come back today.
- [Max] Why?
- Because you can't, Max.
You just can't.
Wait outside.
(clanging)
(dramatic orchestral music)
The computers in your room, are they password protected?
- Do you know me?
(ominous suspenseful music)
- Get in the car.
- Buddy, I know you're having a moment.
My friend, Steve, did ecstasy once too
and it really messed him up.
- Shut up and get in the car.
Get in the car!
(door slamming)
(dark ominous music)
(engine revving)
- [Max] Hey Mom?
- [Jack] The Darwin guy knows.
Where's Harper? - Who's Harper?
- She killed Foust yesterday.
- What?
- [Jessica] She shot her.
I think she snapped.
I can't get ahold of her.
- [Jack] Well, what is she doing?
- I don't know.
- Harper, it's me.
Just don't do anything, okay?
Things have gotten bigger.
Call me back.
Please.
Don't do anything stupid.
(phone vibrating)
(clock ticking)
(soft suspenseful music)
(knocking)
(eerie ominous music)
(knocking)
(knocking)
(knocking)
(knocking)
(panting)
(intense suspenseful music)
(doorbell ringing)
- Still losing hair? - Still gaining weight?
- Come on.
(door opening)
- What is all this?
- Something worth killing for.
(soft dramatic music)
(engine humming)
- Do you need a ride?
- No, I'm good, thanks.
- Okay, be safe.
(engine revving)
- So most of these numbers were called multiple times.
You're looking at 300 phone numbers,
of businesses and individuals.
It's gonna take some time to trace all these.
However these six number were called less than five times
in the last two years.
They all trace to private residences.
This one, only dialed out twice.
- What is all this?
- Hopefully what you're looking for.
- Found it like that.
- We'll be back.
- [Woman On Radio] That's your weekend weather and traffic,
more at the top of the hour.
- Anything?
- No.
Everything's normal.
Weather, Dow Jones, sports.
- We heard "Billie Jean."
Love that song.
- If he was gonna do anything he woulda done it by now.
- "Billie Jean" is written in F sharp minor.
Not a lot of people know that.
- If he knows, do you think she knows?
- We have three on Thursday.
One at the Edgeville Library, -the Run For Fun 5 -K Rally.
And then of course, the Gala Fundraiser at the Hilton
with Jim McCoy at eight.
Now if you wanted we could cut it down
and get by without the library.
- No, no keep the library.
We get a lot of the Latino population at those.
- Oh, and we've got a reporter coming at 1:30
to get comments about the mayor's accident.
I told her she could have five minutes.
- Yeah, it's fine. - Okay.
- Hello.
(door opening)
- She doesn't know. - Are you sure?
- She made me promise my vote.
She seems like I could be anybody.
She told jokes.
- [Mills] So now what?
- She could be faking.
I mean, she could be.
People do it all the time.
I'm faking that I'm following you guys
with this right now.
And seriously big guy, you are totally encroaching
on my side of the seat.
(drawer rattling)
(can opening)
(beeping)
- Thanks.
You know, this really is an ugly building.
- What were you expecting?
- I don't know, stained glass,
arches, something a little more pretty.
- That's Catholics.
We got moving lights.
What are you doing here?
- People come to churches sometimes right
to get answers? - I guess so.
You get any?
- What? - Answers?
- I've done bad things.
And I thought that all the good things I've done
would just outweigh them.
I try to keep track of it in my head, the good and the bad.
You know I've died twice.
Well almost.
The last thing I remember is just fear.
Just complete fear.
So I know that the scales are wrong.
I have this friend, this guy who he keeps
living the same day over and over again,
which I know, that sounds crazy.
But he just keeps telling me
that he has some purpose from God.
So I thought that if I teamed up with him
for a little bit that I could fix everything.
And it all just fell apart.
And now it's much worse
and I just feel the fear all the time.
- So these bad people are attacking the small towns.
So Joshua takes his army,
you know, they're fighting and they're winning,
but they start losing the light.
So Joshua asked God to stop time.
And God does.
Freezes it right there.
So they're fighting and I mean there's blood everywhere.
Even with the sun frozen, some of the bad people
are getting away.
So God sends giant hailstones falling from the sky.
Just wipes them all out.
And I always wondered how Joshua's people
didn't get hit.
They were right there, right in it.
It's because you were either with him or not.
And the hail knew which.
There are no scales.
- Are you the pastor here or something?
- Security.
Listen, people aren't really supposed to be in here.
Was there a door unlocked or something?
- Yeah, I know that guy.
He killed my dogs, man.
- What?
- I can't prove it so I called the cops, right?
They come to my house
and I tell them about what happened.
They try to tell me that the dogs choked on poison,
so I took my dogs to the vet, all right,
to get an autopsy so I can see what's actually going on.
They tried to tell me they choked.
Choked?
German shepard choked?
Police didn't help me one bit, man.
- Where is he?
- I don't know, man.
We got out of there.
My wife couldn't sleep any more at night.
She had one of my guns.
I thought she was gonna shoot herself or me.
I was scared to death.
Creepiest house I've ever seen, right behind us.
The guy's a nut.
- What's the address?
(suspenseful dramatic music)
- Tina, we need to get Marty down here as soon as we can.
Also move my meetings this afternoon.
Something's come up.
Don't go home.
It's gonna be a long night, I might need you.
(bell ringing)
(dark ominous music)
(knocking)
(clock ticking)
(suspenseful ominous music)
(object snapping)
- Wait! - What?
- Just don't move. - Why?
- [Jack] Don't take your weight off your foot.
- You don't think he'd-- - I don't know.
Could just be the floor.
(soft ominous music)
- [Jessica] Okay.
- See if there's a crawl space.
- Okay, I feel something, feel, I feel something.
What is that?
You don't think it's him?
- [Jack] I don't know.
(suspenseful dramatic music)
(soft ominous music)
(handle clicking)
(suspenseful dramatic music)
(muffled speaking)
- [Jack] It's fine.
- Okay.
I'm starting to have a problem.
- [Jack] You're fine.
- No, I'm not fine.
I'm not fine.
(suspenseful dramatic music)
(soft suspenseful music)
- I need you to knock on the floor!
Knock on the floor!
(knocking)
(dramatic suspenseful music)
There's nothing, there's nothing.
We're clear.
- Did he say there's nothing?
It's okay?
Okay.
- You ready? - Okay, come on.
Yeah, I'm ready.
(moaning)
(panting)
- Hey guys.
Car registration.
- Yeah.
(sirens blaring)
(horns honking)
(clapping)
(thumping)
(crowd cheering)
- Yeah, yeah, I think so.
It's gonna have to be fast and quick
and get legal down here.
Who's the Sargent on duty?
- Brady. - Get him on the phone.
- Can I help you?
- Who are you?
- Well, I'm with them.
- Do you have any idea what this is?
- Yeah, I need to talk to you.
- Is it eminent?
- Yeah.
(soft dramatic music)
- The district attorney is standing
in one of my storage bins.
Going through my records.
This affects me.
The people that I do business with.
Your partner is there too.
- I didn't know.
He called in sick.
(chair squeaking)
- You will help me deal with this.
Scorched earth, you understand?
- Yes.
- What?
- I understand.
- Get your partner on the phone.
(dramatic orchestral music)
- [Woman On Radio] After a day long hunt for a cop killer,
police are now on the scene at the stopped car
near Gatling Heights.
Multiple units on scene.
- They think they got him.
- [Woman On Radio] The suspect has not yet exited the...
(dramatic suspenseful music)
(helicopter blade rolling)
- [Policeman] Place your hands on the door of your vehicle.
Now slowly step out facing forward.
(phone ringing)
- Hey, how you feeling? - Better.
- Not throwing up or anything, are you?
- Naw, I'm good.
- I know you're out and all,
but there's some stuff going down that I want to check out.
I need you.
- Okay.
- There's a storage unit on Fifth and Davis.
Can you meet me there in say 15 minutes?
It won't take long. - Yeah.
(intense dramatic music)
- [Policeman] Nice and easy.
(muffled speaking)
- They're gonna arrest Foust tonight.
Pops, she's on her way here now.
- What are you gonna do?
- I'm gonna arrest her.
Once they arrest Foust, she'll talk.
Politicians always talk.
She'll give up Pops and maybe they can share a cell.
- Is this it?
- This could be it.
We gotta find Harper.
If she's done something stupid,
we may not be able to put it back.
(soft suspenseful music)
It's us.
Don't shoot me.
- Has Harper ever said anything about her grandparents?
- Harper? - Hi Papa!
(laughing)
- What are you doing here?
- Harper!
- Hi Mimi.
- You're just in time for dinner.
(beeping)
- Sorry I didn't call.
I was in the area.
- Where's your car?
- I walked.
(laughing)
- It's just an evening full of surprises.
- You got here fast.
- I was already here.
- You were?
- Pops, I need you to listen to me
and I need you to listen to me carefully.
- Whoa ho!
What's going on?
- Turn around slowly.
And put both hands on your head.
- Mills, what is this man?
- Pops. - Is this a joke or something?
- Pops, turn around and put both hands on your head.
- Mills, buddy man-- - Pops don't!
Don't buddy me.
(soft dramatic music)
- I need you to think very carefully about what you're doing
and who you're dealing with.
- Oh, I am.
- Grab a seat.
You know our guest.
- Harper, how wonderful.
- She stopped by to talk about you actually.
I was so surprised.
She's had nothing but the nicest things to say about you.
If I'd known, I'd made a roast.
- Harper,
you gonna sit?
I'll pray for us.
- Oh no, please, allow me the privilege.
Dear Lord, thank you for this wonderful chance meeting
of new friends and for this delicious food.
I pray that this time together would be enlightening.
We think of your love and how you were betrayed
by someone so close to you.
And we are grateful.
In the wonderful name of Jesus, amen.
- Amen.
- No man.
(handcuffs clicking)
You don't know what you're doing.
- I think I do.
- Mills, I'm sorry.
- You're sorry?
You're sorry, you're sorry for what?
- For this.
(grunting)
(banging)
(moaning)
(grunting)
(groaning)
(groaning)
(panting)
(soft dramatic music)
(panting)
(soft ominous music)
- Well congress woman, tell us about your day.
- Today, today has been busy.
I thought about this for a while.
At first I thought I was going crazy,
like a bad dream.
That happens sometimes.
I dream about my teeth falling out
and then I wake up always surprised I still have them.
I showered.
Went about my business.
But I couldn't shake it.
And then you shot me.
(laughing)
- That's funny.
- So I gather we've been at this for a while.
How long have you known?
That long.
You know, she told me you both were dead.
Yeah, never spoke a word about you.
And I believed her.
Why wouldn't I?
(clock ticking)
But I couldn't, I couldn't process it.
I felt at a disadvantage.
There's no power in it, no consequence.
I struggle to even figure out what this is.
Then I realized the smartest thing I could do was,
hello - pretend not to know.
- Do you know me?
- I'm sorry, should I?
Do you realize what we are now?
We are gods.
(driving dramatic music)
We can kill each other, war with each other,
rip each other's lives apart.
But we can't die.
Like Aries and Zeus.
I never gave much thought about them.
You know, one day people worship them and pray to them.
And then it all stopped, all gone.
So this is what I was thinking about
when I woke up this morning.
How do you kill a god?
(fork clanking)
Leverage.
(feet crunching)
(helicopter blade buzzing)
(muffled speaking)
(soft suspenseful music)
(guns shooting)
(objects falling)
(door closing)
If you pursue me further,
I'll destroy everything you love.
(soft ominous music)
You're not a god, Harper Ross.
Not anymore.
You entertain them.
(door shutting)
(phone vibrating)
- [Jack] Harper, where are you?
Harper, don't do anything.
We may not be able to change it back.
- She knows.
- [Jack] What does that mean?
What does?
(soft ominous music)
(panting)
- Oh my god.
Mills, Mills!
Oh God!
(crying)
(door opening)
(panting)
- Hey.
Message.
She said you'd understand.
(knocking)
(door creaking)
- You have any idea what time of night it is?
- I'm sorry, is your name Arnold Smith?
- Yeah.
- (sighs) I'm sorry it's late, Arnold.
But there are a lot of Smiths in this town.
Took me all day to track you down.
See you tomorrow.
(door slamming)
(sirens blaring)
