There's a woman
in there bleeding to death!

I thought our crime scene's
a couple blocks down.

I called 911. Cop cars keep passing by.

- ANDY: All right, all ri...
- This woman's been shot for God's sake.

- I got this. All right!
- PAUL: Why won't you help?

ANDY: I got this.

- BOBBY: I'll be around the corner.

shot and ran away.

I got a carry permit, but I didn't want
to endanger anybody with crossfire.

ANDY: Put that away.

(SIRENS BLARES)

FEMALE VOICE: Help me!

- Can't you see I've just been shot?
- BOBBY: Ma'am.

- Somebody help me!

We'll sit by the car and wait
for the ambulance to come, alright?

Radio cars chased him into the garage.

He opened fire on 'em,
hit a couple of our guys.

We returned fire,
we had him pinned down inside.

Where the hell is he now?

- OFFICER: Officers coming down!
- We don't know.

REPORTER: Is anybody dead?

(CAMERA SHUTTER CLICKS)

The kid right over there in the
blue jacket is a rookie, Officer Piccone.

He's in a deli
about a block and a half down.

Hears a gunshot, looks out,
sees this guy staggering on the sidewalk.

Piccone runs out,
sees the guy fall, right?

He sees the shooter, he's walking up
the other side of the street,

he still has his weapon in this hand.

Piccone calls it in, starts closing in
on this guy walking up Third Avenue.

Shooter turns, sees him,
fires off a round.

Thanks. Piccone's firing back.

It's like a running gun battle then
for about a block.

Jeez go ahead.

Sector car responds.

Perp opens fire on that,
hitting both officers,

but they return to fire, too.

Two civilians go down, which if you
ask me, we're really lucky it's not more.

What about the garage?

The shooter runs in here,
more blue and whites arrive.

He opens fires on them.
Two more of our guys go down.

They're returning fire,
they got him pinned.

It's like a standoff.

- What the hell happened to the guy?
- He disappears.

(INDISTINCT CHATTER)

- CLIFFORD: Look at all these cameras.
- How's the kid?

BOBBY: Piccone's a rookie, Lieu.

Around 11:15, a white male walks in,
puts a gun to her chest.

And fires one shot, walks out.
Not a word spoken.

Anybody ID the guy?

ANDY: Nobody knew him.
Coworker said she's got a husband.

I found her address
on a phone bill in her purse.

I sent a uniform to pick him up.

Any shell casings?

9mm. Steel, not brass, which is unusual.

So, this guy'd be the same guy.

We're picking up steel casings
all up and down the sidewalk.

- He must've started inside here.
- Third Avenue's a battlefield.

Four cops down, three civilians.

- ANDY: Perp got away?
- Yeah.

Owner of the place is Colombian.

Off the bat, you gotta think drugs.

- Yeah.
- We got two blocks of chaos out there.

All right, anybody who saw anything,

PAUL: This woman's life
could have been saved.

from the time I called 911,

- it took 25 minutes for help to arrive.
- (SIGHS)

I told that clown

Then walked out
of the restaurant and moved north,

up Third Avenue.
Three hundred feet from the restaurant,

he shot a pedestrian named
David Castañeda in the chest.

Castañeda was DOA at the hospital.

The shot that killed Castañeda
was heard by an Officer Piccone,

who called it in
and began pursuit on foot.

Was Piccone able to take
the guy out at that point?

Before the guy started shooting again?

The officer says, he was concerned about
discharging his weapon on a busy sidewalk.

Was he under the impression
that the perp shared his concern?

ARTHUR: The shooter fires on Piccone
at this point in the street.

At which point,
Officer Piccone returns fire.

Missing the shooter.

Patrolmen Evans and Byrne
arrive in a radio car at this point,

and join in the exchange of fire.

Both patrolmen in the radio car
are struck and wounded,

and a British tourist, um, an Amelia Rose,

who's stable at Bellevue
but didn't get a look at the perp.

Also in this exchange
a 60-year-old female in a grocery store

was struck in the head by a stray.

She was also DOA.

According to ballistics,
the stray was a police round.

We don't know yet, which officer.

Probably that sorry-ass rookie.

We got no idea who the perp is?

Uh, what his problem was?
Racial? What? Anything?
