Notice anything different about me, students?
I'm wearing a hat.
all: Wow!
This is my Lil' Founder's Day Hat.
I won this in a trivia contest at a Founder's Day Festival
back when I was your age.
Founder's Day Festival?
This town sure loves its holidays--
almost as much as I love this hat.
Now, as I was saying,
the Founder's Day Festival celebrates
the rich history of the city's literally rich founders.
Speaking of my rich family, my dad runs the festival,
and he gave me a very important job.
These Dimmlet wristwatches were created by the geniuses
at Dimmadome Global, my dad's company.
Designed specifically for the festival,
you can get tickets, a park map,
and the weekend schedule all on your watch.
Do they also tell time?
No.
These Dimmlets are so cool, right?
If I had to wager, I'd say the Dimmlets were some sort
of tool in an evil plot to take over Dimmadelphia
through consumerism.
Or a fun accessory.
Those are the only two options.
I'm gonna go with the second one.
Dev and I are friends now.
Thank you, Dev. We're--
These are cool watches that don't tell time.
Right, Dev? Dev and I are friends now.
This is awesome!
Why do I feel electricity in my brain?
My dad knew there would be questions
from the peanut gallery, so he prepared a statement.
It reads, "In case of brain sensation questions,
"the Dimmlets feature a fitness component
to read vital signs."
For fitness purposes.
Dad's so cool.
Yep! Yep! Makes sense to me.
Count your steps, et cetera, et cetera.
Now, Mr. Guzman, tell us about this hat.
And how can I win one?
Oh, wait, Dev gave us these fun Dimmlets
with all the festival details.
It's so...
Convenient.
So I passed out your Dimmlet watches or whatever.
This is thrilling news.
We must move forward in an effective way.
Really?
Well, I was thinking next we could organize merchandise
by throwing the boxes back and forth to each other?
Or we could test proximity sensors on the Dimmlets
while holding hands?
Eat a lizard!
What? Um, if you say so?
I'm a little hungry, I guess.
Uh, Dev, I'm on the line with investors.
Oh, right. I knew that.
It's not like I thought you had a new job for me.
Do you? - Negative.
Now that you've passed out the Dimmlets,
consumer data can be collected.
You've completed your primary function.
When we unveil my statue, we'll prove the Dimmadomes
are stronger than ever.
What do you mean?
Unlike the other statues,
my statue won't be alone,
because my success isn't owed to just me.
Something very special changed my life years ago.
Special?
Nine years, seven months, and 14 days ago to be exact.
OK, that's pretty much my birthday to the day.
It's what I love most in the world.
Wow.
Is this a father and son statue of us?
If I become Lil' Founder tomorrow,
it'd really show how much I've made Dimmadelphia my home.
I wonder what this year's custom hat
will look like.
Gold with sequins?
Or orange with rhinestones?
Or periwinkle with gold sequins
and orange rhinestones?
Or--so many add options.
Oh, oh.
Oh, I can't wait to be Lil' Founder.
Scan for identification.
Now, Hazel, your father and I
have to get our booths ready, OK?
I'm promoting my new book series,
"Hope This Finds You Wells."
Get it?
Oh, and Marcus is--
Lil' Founder's Hat, here I come!
I love hats!
Ah, parenting.
Never gets easier.
Oh, hey, neighbors.
I didn't know y'all had a kid.
Yeah, he's great.
The first baby born in a thousand years.
I mean, that's what it felt like when I had him.
I mean when Wanda had him.
OK.
Oh, and where's your son now?
Eh, we don't know.
Uh, I mean, um, we sometimes forget
because we were on vacation for 10,000 years.
Uh, I mean, um, uh, Euuuurope?
Kay, see ya, bye!
Step right here. Step right here.
Try your luck and win a poorly constructed
cotton-filled bear toy.
5 bucks to play.
Au contraire, O-Pair.
I will not be playing your little game...
unless the prize is a rainbow-colored ten-gallon
Lil' Founder's Hat with mini LED lights sewn in.
When did you get so into hats?
Hats are my thing.
Ask anybody.
You could just wish for a ten-gallon hat.
See?
What?
I don't want just any old ten-gallon hat.
I want to win the Lil' Founder's Hat.
I know I've been here a few months now,
but I still feel all new and whatnot.
Being a Lil' Founder will make me feel like Dimmadelphia
really is my home.
Well, let's win you one.
How do you do that again?
I have to win the trivia contest, which,
according to my wristwatch that doesn't tell time,
starts in the Founder's Statue Courtyard right now.
Come on!
Oh, Founder's Day.
I thought you said Flounder's Day.
Cosmo, we've been here an hour,
and this just now occurred to you?
You know I sometimes hear Ls where they don't belong'l.
It's a huge problem, Wandla.
I'm Dale Dimmadome, owner of Dimmadome Global,
Dimmazon, and Dimm n' Out Burgers.
Welcome to the annual Founder's Day Festival.
Whoo!
Trivia!
Before I get started, I--
Trivia! Bring on the hat!
Uh, I want to address
the reason I'm up here instead of an O-Pair
or an ultrarealistic hologram
is because the focus group thought it'd be better
if you heard from a "person."
Mm.
Now to reveal this year's
Lil' Founder's Trivia Contest prize.
Yeah!
Oh-oh.
Is that our daughter over there losing her entire mind?
Yep, yep. Sure is.
The rules are simple.
Answer three trivia questions correctly
on the trivia cards provided at any O-Pair station,
and you get crowned Lil' Founder.
Let the trivia commence!
Pa-chow!
Ah.
OK, I've gotta win this contest,
but I don't know any Dimmadelphia founder trivia.
I just moved here.
How long are you gonna play that card?
I want to play cards.
I have a great poker face.
Ooh. Oh, this is bad.
I'm gonna lose.
All right, all right, I just moved here-ish.
So I wish to speak to a Dimmadelphia history expert--
a Dimmastorian.
Good morrow, citizens of yon city.
Wait. You can talk?
The Dimmadomes wore togas
because they're not only fashionable,
but when one wears sheets,
one always has a comfy place to sleep.
Oh, cool, you made the statues come to life
so I could talk to the founders themselves.
Thanks, Cosmo and Wanda.
Uh, did we do that?
One always has a comfy place to sleep.
You said that already.
Love your accent, by the way.
Hey, hey, hey. Bonjour, mes amis.
I'm Doug Dimmadome,
owner of the Dimmsdale Dimmadome.
I struck gold in 1953.
Oh, oh, oh!
This trivia contest is in the bag.
You did it, Dad.
There are Dimmlets on every kid in the city.
Success!
Tiny sensors measure kids' heart rate,
sending the slightest tickle to their central nervous system
when piqued.
In doing so, the Dimmlets give me, Dale Dimmadome,
owner of Dimmadome Global, Dimmazon,
and the DomeZone indoor amusement park--coming soon--
the ability to decipher everything a child wants.
Dad, that's so great.
You get to help kids right away.
Eh, no, not help kids.
Make money.
The faster O-Pairs deliver what kids want, the richer I--
I mean we get.
So you're jolting people's brains just to make money?
Uh, tickling.
Oh, that's odd.
There appears to be an anomaly in the system.
One consumer doesn't seem to want anything.
Pfft, can't be.
I'm the only kid who has everything he could ever want,
including a father's lo--
The only thing I care about is finding the anomaly.
Wow, that Doug Dimmadome sure loved his hat.
My kind of guy.
I don't think I've ever seen you in a hat
before yesterday.
They were nice.
But didn't it feel like they kind of said
the same thing over and over?
Hey, I got all the info I needed.
And now I'm feeling really good.
So good, I can make wishes for other kids
so they can have as good a day as I'm having.
Like that miserable kid.
Here is your ice cream cone.
That will be 4 bucks.
I wish that miserable kid
had a new ice cream cone.
Oops. My bad.
You already have a new ice cream cone.
No worries, my man.
Here's your pass to cut to the front of the line.
That will be 30 bucks.
Look at that second miserable kid.
Ugh. I wish that line moved faster.
You do not need this anymore?
Cool, cool, cool, cool, cool, cool, cool, cool, cool.
Oh, ugh.
Look at that whole gaggle of miserable kids.
I wish that bouncy house was bigger, better, and bouncier.
Adding more air to make this bouncy house
bigger, better, and bouncier is 25๏ฟฝ.
Whoo-hoo!
Psych!
This house is already way bouncy.
O-Pair, you crazy for this one.
Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha.
Wherever that anomaly goes,
it causes the consumers around it to want fewer things.
Near the ice cream stand, the Ferris wheel,
the Bigger, Better, Bouncier Farmhouse.
It's all over the festival.
You still making sales?
Yes, but they're dropping, Dev.
If I can't make sales, I can't make money.
The anomaly must be stopped.
Time to unveil your statue and trivia contest winner.
Yow!
What--it's time to turn in
these trivia answers so I can win me a hat.
At least I think so.
These watches don't tell time.
Lil' Founder's Hat, here I come!
It's my honor to unveil my entry
into the Founder's Park Statue Courtyard.
This statue is unlike the others
because it's not just me under that tarp.
I'm thrilled to show the world
the support I have under me every day.
I remember the moment this bundle of joy arrived.
crowd: Ooh!
My lucky boots,
the most important thing in my life, right there.
Yew, I was sure it was gonna be a statue
of that man and his son.
Aww, I miss my son.
I should probably go check on Dev.
Now for the trivia contest results.
Oh, right after this.
Overwhelmingly...
Uh, Hazel Wells is the winner.
She even answered with facts
that weren't part of the trivia.
Congrats, Lil' Founder.
When's lunch?
Oh!
This is everything I've ever wanted in this entire world.
W-what's happening?
It's as if we gave the anomaly everything
they've ever wanted in this entire world.
If only you could talk to them.
But talking to people isn't your thing, I guess.
You're more into boots.
Something is obscuring the sensors.
The anomaly's signal is blocked by a large object.
Uh, maybe a hat.
We can try to trace it.
It's Hazel.
Of course, her well-known love of hats.
You have a new program directive, Dev.
Find out how the anomaly is doing this.
Track them down with the O-Pairs
so I can study them--
I mean learn their secrets.
It's likely a small child, like you.
I thought you wanted to work with me
because it's a family business.
Key word: family.
No, key word: business.
Oh. Then in that case, I know exactly what to do.
I love my new hat.
Oh!
Kind of big, though.
You could wish that the hat was smaller, like this.
Just not that tight.
Thanks, Wanda.
Hazel!
Thank goodness.
I need that hat.
Oh, Dev.
Hey, are you OK?
I don't have time to get into it.
Find anomaly.
I need you to give me the hat.
Give me the hat, Hazel!
Whoa, whoa, whoa!
You still haven't told me why you need it, Dev.
We need to find the hat-wearing anomaly.
Just give me the hat, anomaly!
What did you call me?
- I--I didn't mean to-- - Find anomaly.
Back to the fake names again?
I wish I could stay and talk.
My hat!
That's right.
Come to Daddy.
We need to find the hat-wearing anomaly.
It's right there.
Get it now.
The anomaly's getting away.
Send in the Founders.
all: Awaiting orders.
Wrangle every dollar sign--
I mean customer-- I mean person
into Founder's Field.
Find the anomaly.
Copy that, sir.
The statues are alive!
Oh, no!
Football!
Is this not antithetical to your philosophy?
You want to make money,
and yet you herd potential consumers
against their will.
Rude.
The statues are out of control.
Did your magic go wonky?
Chalk it up to a classic Cosmo and Wanda goof-'em-up?
Ooh, maybe this is an escalation of a diabolical plot
perpetrated by Dale Dimmadome
associated with those fancy, high-tech Dimmlets
Dev passed out.
Or what Wanda said.
OK, I wish the statues weren't magic anymore.
Oh, great.
The "wand not working" noise.
What's wrong?
You wished the statues weren't magic anymore,
but that would only work if the statues
were magic to begin with.
I guess they weren't.
If these statues didn't come to life because of my wish,
then where's the expert Dimmastorian
I wished to speak to?
Right here.
Oh.
Guess I didn't see you earlier.
I was playing Skee-all.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm fleeing for my life
from giant talking statues.
So if the statues aren't magic,
that must mean they're actually robots
programmed by Dale to give historical facts.
Hazel, do you know what this means?
Yeah, anyone could have been Lil' Founder
if they just talked to the dumb statues all day.
No. Well, yes.
But also, if Dale programmed the statues to do that--
Then that means he's probably controlling them now.
Which means Dale does have some kind of diabolical plot.
And that means Cosmo was right.
I was?
I mean, right.
We gotta get to Dale's tent
so I can find their power source and shut them down.
We'll distract the statues to give you cover.
Hi, statue minions.
It's me, your boss, Dill Pickle Dimmadome.
Awaiting orders.
I had a very important scheme to tell you about.
It's very important and very schemy.
Wait!
OK, I need you to, um, clap your hands.
Now dance.
Wow, Cosmo was right-- about everything.
Yeesh.
This looks important.
What would Cosmo do?
I've got you.
Phew. Ow!
Aw.
What's happening?
No!
My money!
Hazel! Boy, am I glad to see you.
I brought you your hat.
Oh, it's Hazel now, not anomaly?
It's always been Hazel.
I--let me back up.
It's been such a wild day,
and I haven't been able to talk--
I can't believe you gave us those Dimmlets
so your dad could make money off of everyone.
You're mean and manipulative, just like your father.
I thought we were friends.
But, Hazel, we are.
Just--Hazel!
I stopped the O-Pairs from finding you.
I would hug you, but I do not have
human arms or warmth.
Hazel's mad at me.
My dad loves his boots more than me.
The festival turned into a robotic uprising.
I just--I'm so, so--
Miserable?
Hey, kid. I'm Poof.
Well, at least I was.
I changed my name to Peri, like periwinkle.
Check the threads, huh?
I'm your new fairy godparent.
And, kid, I'll take you from Dev to Dev-vine.
You're my what?
? Billionfold ?
