(energetic rock music plays)

(audience cheering and clapping)

We've got a great show for you tonight, folks.

My first guest is the incredibly handsome star

of the Quick and the Dangerous film franchise.

Please welcome Chase Wheeler!

(crowd cheering)

(giggles) Hi, Chase.

- It's so great to have you here. - Thanks, Nikki,

but the pleasure's all mine.

Now, you're here to promote the 11th installment

of the Quick and the Dangerous franchise,

Still Quick, Still Dangerous. And I have to say,

I am a huge fan.

- Well, I'm a huge fan of yours. - Really?

You're smart and funny,

and a role model to aspiring female mechanics everywhere.

Not only are you one of the best mechanics in the country,

you're also the most beautiful.

And as you know, the Quick movies aren't just

about cars, they're about finding your tribe.

(audience cheers)

And I want you to become a part of mine.

(gasps)

What do you say?

Nikki?

Nikki?

Nikki? Nikki!

- Nikki! - Oh!

Sorry, hey.

- Are we all set here? - Yeah.

Looks like Mr. Holden wants to pick up

his ride a little bit early.

- So, uh, what'd you do? - Um, open up the air intake

to get more power from the crank.

I also added a custom chrome 12-inch exhaust

to override the output. Pretty cool, right?

Nice work. No one does it like you, Sparks.

I'm gonna get started on Mr. Montoya's Mercedes.

Uh, not so fast.

I think uh, maybe you should be the one to hand this one over.

What? Me?

- Well, you did all the work. - Yeah, I know but I--

But nothing. Look at him,

he's not a bad looking guy. Plus, I hear he's a top TV exec.

So, he's probably taken.

Trust me, Sparks, no married man drives a car like that.

- You do not give up, do you? - Nope.

Now, look alive, kiddo, here he comes.

Thank you, Larry. Yeah. Um, excuse me?

Yep, uh, tires look good, too.

- Hi. - Hey... there.

So, is she ready to go?

- Who? - My car.

Oh, uh, yeah, yeah, she's-she's ready.

(alarm beeping)

(alarm stops)

Well, at least we know the alarm still works.

Yeah.

Do you know if the mechanic is still around?

He's done such a good job on my car,

I'd like to thank him myself.

Oh, I guess um, I'm the he.

I mean, the he's me.

I'm not a he but it's... it's me.

I'm the mechanic.

Wow, a female mechanic. You are a rare breed.

Yeah, it's a pretty small convention.

- I bet. - Yeah, I actually think

it's a real shame there aren't more women in the field.

I just read an article about how the auto industry

needs more female trailblazers to survive.

- Hmm. - I can uh, show it to you

really quick, if you wanna check it out. It's pretty cool.

Uh, sure.

Okay. Um... whoops.

Whoops, photo of my cat. Whoops, photo of my cat.

Photo of my cat, photo of my cat.

You know... yeah, I'll just show it to you another time.

Sure. Again, thank you very much for my car.

Yeah.

(engine revving)

- Jeremy? - Hmm?

Are you even listening?

Sorry, I'm...

You do know it's Saturday

and you're at your niece's 13th birthday party?

Yeah, just Chase is my biggest client

and there aren't really days off in the PR world.

Oh, my little brother, always the people pleaser.

You're aware of the word no, right?

Mm-hmm, yeah, it's what the uh, the partners are gonna

tell me if I don't keep Chase happy.

Yeah, well, what about what makes you happy?

I will be happy when I make partner.

And then will you finally have a social life?

What's that supposed to mean?

When was the last time you went out on a date?

- Um... - It's been two years

since Hannah.

It's not like I don't wanna meet someone.

You know I wanna start a family. It's just right now--

(phone pings)

Shoot. Gotta run.

- Another Chase emergency? - Yeah.

Thank you for understanding. Mwah.

Uh, this is not me understanding.

Give Charlie another birthday hug for me.

- That was painful to watch. - Yeah. Yeah, it was brutal.

Uh, come on guys, it wasn't that bad.

Hmm, it was like watching a tuna fish

try to do the macarena.

(laughs)

We're just messing with you, Sparks.

- It's only 'cause we love you. - Yeah, and 'cause watching

you flirt is like watching a monster truck rally.

It's all fun at the beginning, but afterwards,

you just feel bad for everyone involved.

Uh, Carlos! (laughs)

Seriously though, when's the last time

you went on a real date, hmm?

When were the last Olympics?

Winter or Summer?

Yeah, that's uh, that's not a good sign.

It's not that I don't wanna meet someone,

it's just, I don't know, I haven't met someone

- that makes me want to... - Flirt like a human being?

- Take the risk. - Hmm.

Well, you're certainly not gonna meet someone

spending all your time at the shop.

Exactly. There's a whole big world out there for you.

All you need is a little spark.

(bottles clang)

Can't believe she tried sticking a 3/4ths wrench

- into a 5/16ths socket. - Okay, but I made it work.

Hey, she can make it work. I know, she's good.

- She probably could. - I do.

(sassy rock music plays)

No... way.

Try it now. (engine sputters)

What, you know that guy?

Know him? That's Chase Wheeler.

(engine sputtering)

Come on, come on, come on.

Nothing.

- The movie guy? - Yeah, hey,

Nikki has a bit of a crush on him.

Looks like he could use a little help.

What? No, no, I... I can't. I can't.

Come on, you know you wanna get your hands

on that sweet ride.

Plus, working on the car would be nice, too.

(laughs)

That's not funny.

Hey look, tell ya what,

you do it and I'll let you take out Tilly for the afternoon.

The SS Matti?

But you don't let anyone drive that. Ugh.

Come on.

Okay.

- Got any popcorn? - Watch this.

Car troubles?

How'd you guess?

I'm psychic.

And a mechanic. Do you want a hand?

Oh, please.

Chase, we lucked out. Uh--

Listen, now is not a great time.

- Hi. - My PR guy can give you

- a signed headshot. - Uh--

Jamie, get another one out of the box.

That's not actually what I...

Uh, thanks Jamie, but that's--

Uh, it's uh, it's Jeremy.

- But he called you... - Yeah, I know,

it's um, it's a thing.

Okay.

I was actually wondering if I could give you a hand?

(laughs)

Thanks, but I think I know my way around this car.

I've driven it in 11 movies.

Try it now.

Right.

(engine sputters)

Still nothing.

Hi.

You know, I've seen those movies a lot

and I wouldn't exactly call them scientifically accurate.

And you think you can do better?

I mean, these overalls aren't just to keep

ketchup off my shirt.

(laugh)

Three things you need to think about

when trying to work out why your car won't start.

One, fuel. Two, battery. Three, everything else.

When was the last time you filled up?

- I am not out of gas. - Great.

And I'm guessing by the jumper cables down there

that it's not the battery either?

Perfect, so that leaves a few other things.

I saw you messing around with the alternator.

It's not that. And even if it was,

you're not fixing that here.

Starter looks pretty new, same with the air filter.

So, if I had to guess...

Yep, it's the spark plug.

The wire's bad. Shouldn't be too hard to fix.

Pliers?

We just need to open up the crimp connection.

Screwdriver.

And replace the old broken wire

with the part that is intact.

Close it all up.

And give it a shot.

Okay.

(engine turns over) Hey, it worked!

- It worked. - There it is.

(bystanders clapping)

Okay, great. Let's get outta here

- before this day gets any worse. - Sure. Yeah, all right. Um,

just gimme one second.

(indistinct chatter)

Move it or lose it, buddy.

(hood clunks closed)

All right. Let's uh...

- What were you trying to... - Let's go.

I'm still surprised you did that, kid.

You were pretty amazing out there.

Yeah, I don't think Chance is gonna forget

- meeting you anytime soon. - Too bad you left

before he could give you his number.

Okay, first of all, it's Chase.

And second, can we please just drop it?

I don't think I've ever been so embarrassed in my life.

Why? You were great.

I've never seen you more confident.

Yeah. I mean, you've been letting that handsome barista

call you Vikki for the past five years now.

Where'd you get all that spice from?

I don't know.

I saw this little girl in the crowd and...

the way that she was looking up at me, I just...

I wanted to show her that we can do all the things

that men can do.

Well, I think you showed everybody that.

Yeah, and set a new land speed record when you were done.

Yeah. I've never seen someone move so fast.

Okay, well, I'm glad that you guys were entertained,

but I can promise you that I will never be doing

anything like that ever again.

All right, speedy.

(Nikki on video): Three things you need to think about

when trying to work out why your car won't start.

One, fuel. Two, battery. And three, everything else.

(reporter): The video is sure to make the fiery star see red

as his handy heroine looks more like a character

from the Quick franchise than Chase himself.

I'm guessing by the jumper cable--

Not exactly an ideal way to start the week now, is it?

Okay, it's bad, but I can turn this around.

- I know exactly how to. - Yeah, well, great.

Be sure to tell it to Chase's new PR agency.

- (scoffs) - What?

He fired us this morning.

Because of one video?

Well, the video got over five million views.

And Chase feels that it hurt his brand irreparably.

Let me talk to him. I can straighten this out.

We already tried. Trust me,

you do not wanna talk to him right now.

He is one of his moods.

You know, for an actor, the man knows surprisingly

few words. And unlike his movies,

most of them aren't PG-13.

Trust me, I can fix this.

The damage is done.

It's time to focus on moving forward.

And as you know, Chase is up to be the next host

on American Wheels. Now, it is the biggest talk show

in the world for car enthusiasts and we need a new frontrunner.

Okay, right. Uh, I will start combing through

the roster and see who could be a good fit.

We have already been through the list.

We don't have anybody else that appeals

- to that demographic. - Don't worry, I will,

- I will figure this out. - Good.

Because we need this to work, Jeremy.

- Right. - And you wouldn't be sitting

here if we didn't think you could do it.

Thank you. I won't let you down.

Oh, and word to the wise?

You're gonna have to think outside the box on this one.

So?

Okay, one, it's ridiculous.

Two, it doesn't make any sense. And three, I hate you both.

Come on, Sparks, you're famous now!

We have to capitalize on this.

Yeah, you know, he's not wrong.

This could boost business.

No, it's either me or the sign, guys. You choose.

Well, we did just spend 100 bucks on the sign, so...

- (laughs) - Okay, very, very funny.

Can we please just drop it? It was one video

and a few people saw it.

It was actually more like five million.

And that was just the original video.

Counting reposts and clipped views,

it's probably closer to 10.

Larry, isn't that your phone ringing in your office?

- No, I didn't hear anything. - Larry, your phone

is ringing in your office.

(chuckles)

- Hi. - Hi.

You left so quickly yesterday,

forgot your signed Chase Wheeler headshot.

- Right. - But something tells me

- you don't need it anymore. - Oh, that's not mine.

That... I'm holding it for a friend.

Oh, no judgment.

I think the cutout's an improvement.

At least this one can't fire me.

- Wait, he fired you? - Mm-hmm.

Was it because of me?

With an ego as fragile as Chase's,

it was bound to happen at some point.

Okay, well, whatever you need done on your car, it's on me.

Well, thanks, but that's not why I'm here, actually.

Uh, okay. Well, if you don't need a repair

and you're not out for revenge...

No. I actually am here 'cause I have an opportunity

and I think you're gonna really like it.

My PR agency lost Chase

and now we need someone to pitch.

Pitch for what?

The next host of American Wheels.

(laughs)

Did Carlos put you up to this?

- Okay, I know, it sounds crazy. - Yeah.

I actually think you would be perfect for it.

Okay? There's never been a female host

or someone that knows as much about cars as you do.

But I'm a nobody. Why would they want me?

- I'm not famous. - Ten million people online

- know who you are. - Okay, yeah,

but it was one video.

We can make more.

In fact, that's part of my plan.

Okay, people only watched that video because of Chase.

If it was just me, they'd laugh.

No one's gonna laugh at you.

I watched that video 100 times.

You were amazing.

Thanks, but I'm a mechanic,

not some celebrity talk show host.

Why can't you be both?

Look, I... I wish I could,

really, but Larry needs me at the shop.

This is where I belong.

Will you think about it at least?

I'm sorry, I'm really not that person.

Okay, sorry I wasted your time.

Hey, Nikki, you got a sec?

Sure.

What's up?

Sit.

You know, if you're gonna be a chicken,

I'd rather you not use me as an excuse.

- What are you talking about? - I overheard what that guy

offered you. I think you should do it.

It sounds like a pretty incredible opportunity.

But what about the shop?

You guys need me here. I'm not gonna abandon you.

You're a great mechanic, Sparks,

but in case you haven't noticed, we've got a few

other people that work here. I think we could manage.

Something tells me that's not the only reason

you don't wanna do it.

I mean, I'm a mechanic.

I belong in a garage, not in front of a camera.

You're more than a mechanic.

You're a role model.

My daughters grew up thinking that only boys

could be mechanics.

Now I've got three lawyers.

And don't get me wrong, I love 'em dearly,

I'm not complaining,

but I've also got nobody to take over the shop for me

when I'm gone.

You know, I wish they'd had someone like you

to look up to, to show them

that they could be whatever they want to be.

You really think people will look up to me?

Why wouldn't they?

I already do.

(sighs)

(dial tone)

So, how exactly would this work?

Excuse me?

Oh, hi um, sorry, it's Nikki...

Nikki Turner. The mechanic from...

Nikki!

I am so glad you called.

Yeah, um, I've been thinking about it

and it's actually pretty crazy there's never

been a female host.

So, does that mean you're in?

I'm in.

Great. I am so happy to hear that.

But I do have one condition.

Yeah, okay, go ahead.

I know this was your idea

and I'm sure you're very good at what you do,

but before we go any further, I just wanna know

that I can walk away at any time

and I will always have the final say.

Of course, yeah.

We're gonna be a team, but you're the captain.

- Great. - Great.

Okay, so American Wheels, here we come.

We've got a lot to do so I hope you're ready

- to kick it in high gear. - So, where do we start?

(engine revving)

So, step one of your genius plan is scrapbooking?

Okay, it's not a scrapbook, it's a mood board,

and this is how we start to develop your brand.

By cutting out pictures of other people?

By finding inspiration for your vibe, okay?

We're looking for examples of what we want to present

- to the public. - Okay, but none of these

people look scared or nervous.

That's because they figured out their branding,

which is what we're here to do. Okay?

So, check this out. I'm thinking strong,

powerful, confident, okay?

You're a trailblazer. Like Joan of Arc.

Wasn't she burned at the stake?

That's because she didn't have a publicist like me.

(chuckles) Okay, look,

I'm here to help you show off the best parts of yourself.

I'll work with you. We'll create content

and build an audience. But I'm not here to change you,

okay, 'cause at the end of the day,

it's you out there, not me.

Is that what you did with Chase?

No. No, with Chase,

I had to make him appear much nicer than he actually is.

(laughs) Let's see what you got.

Okay.

(playful music)

Okay...

It's not exactly what I was thinking.

But you said examples of what we want to present

to the public. Trust me, this is what people wanna see.

- Yeah-- - And you did say

that I get the final say. Remember?

Don't make me fire you, Jamie. Grrr.

- (Nikki laughs) - Really?

Hey, guys, I'm Nikki.

Nikki with an I, not a Y. Sometimes people

- spell it wrong but-- - Cut.

- I think we got it. - Definitely didn't get it.

But let's... let's go again.

I'm just gonna mess it up, again.

No, you're not. Don't think about it.

Just do it, okay? Ready? Go.

- (British accent): Hello, there. - Cut.

- (normally): Sorry, I panicked. - And went full British?

I've been watching a lot of British baking shows.

Okay. Uh, how about we try one a little more you?

Trust me, that's not what people wanna see.

People wanna see someone like Gia.

Gia's the world's biggest pop star.

And she has like, a gazillion followers.

That's not your brand.

But she's on my mood board.

I know. And I'm thinking that that might be

what's not working. So, let's try again,

and this time, don't worry about how anyone else would do it.

Okay?

Three, two, one.

Hey, there, guys. You might have seen me

helping Chase Wheeler in that video,

but I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Sparks.

I mean uh, I'm Nikki, but you can call me Sparks.

Follow me and I'll show you everything.

Oh um, that I've learned being one of Chicago's

top mechanics.

So, let's jump on in and um...

Ahem...

Sometimes these doors are a little tricky. Ugh!

Oh, okay. Nikki?

Oh.

Did we get it?

Not quite.

(sighs)

(birds chirping)

(soft music)

Is the food always gonna be this good?

That's the best part of the job.

You mean, besides the millions of adoring fans?

See, now you're getting it.

I don't know how Chase does it.

Having tons of people watch you do things all the time

sounds like a nightmare.

Funny story. I had Chase related nightmares

for six months after I became his publicist.

Well, I hope in your nightmares he at least

gets your name right. (chuckles)

I'm telling you, I'm pretty sure

he only called me Jamie because he hated the fact

that I don't drive.

Wait, what, you don't drive?

- A car, no. - What else would you drive?

- A bike. - Like a motorbike?

Like a bi... cycle.

No, this is not gonna work!

- (laughs) - What? I don't need to know

about cars to show people that you do.

Uh, I'm gonna have to teach you.

Why, so I can be Quick and the Dangerous?

No, so you can understand why people love cars.

Why do people love cars so much?

For me,

driving is when I feel most free.

You know, I can go anywhere I want.

Be anyone I want.

Just me and the road.

That's why I love being a mechanic because...

(camera beeps) I get to help people.

- Are you filming me? - Yes, this is great content.

- Me talking about myself? - Yes.

No, that's not what people wanna see.

What do people wanna see?

They wanna see something like this, okay?

This is real talent.

- (giggles) - If only your brand

was a hungry seagull.

You're just jealous of my skills.

Hmm, it's actually not that hard.

Okay, how 'bout this?

If you can catch this fry in your mouth then,

I'll try it your way. I'll be more myself.

But if you can't, driving lessons start tomorrow.

- You've got a deal. - Okay.

Okay. Hold on, let me... let me get ready.

- Okay, ready? - Ready.

Come on, no! (laughs)

You said it.

Ah, okay. Fine, you're off the hook.

Okay, I'll tell you what, to be fair,

when you hit 50,000 followers, I'll let you teach me.

Really?

Yeah.

Okay, so just 49,999 more to go.

98. I convinced my niece to start following you.

- Yeah. - So, now all we gotta do

is appeal to people outside of my family and we're golden.

Sure. Any ideas?

You know, I actually have the perfect idea.

All right, Nikki, here's what's gonna happen.

They're gonna show the video, cut to us.

I'll ask you a few things, then we'll wrap it up.

- Any questions? - Uh, yeah,

what do I do with my hands?

Whatever you normally do with them.

Okay.

Don't worry, you'll be fine.

The video went viral for a reason.

- You're great on camera. - Yeah, I just didn't know

- that I was being filmed. - Right,

you just thought you were showing up one of the biggest

celebrities on the planet. Just do what you did there.

- Okay. - Just don't show me up

or I'll have to kill you.

I'm just kidding. Us girls need to stick together.

I think that's why your video is so popular.

You are the face of girl power right now.

- Thank you. - Of course.

And don't worry, it's not like millions of people

are gonna be watching this interview.

- Okay, thank goodness. - Just 20,000

proud Channel 5 news fans in your local Chicago area.

All right, I gotta go chat to my cameraman real quick

- and then I'll be right back. - Okay, um, can we--

Okay, excited for your first big television interview?

Why did you think this was a good idea?

It's gonna get you out in front of people.

(exhales nervously) Which is a good thing, remember?

But I thought that we would start small,

you know, build up to this?

I know you're scared.

But sometimes you just gotta jump into the deep end.

All right? The quicker you rip off that band aid,

- the less it'll hurt. - But I take my band aids

off slowly. And in the shower.

Way more information than I needed to know.

See? I say things that I shouldn't.

I'm not ready to go on TV yet.

Can we just try another video, please?

Believe me, we're gonna do plenty of videos,

but my bosses set this up

and I'm in enough hot water with them already as it is, so...

Great. At least they'll be happy.

- Thanks. - I was being sarcastic.

Okay, don't worry. Naomi, she's a professional.

You could actually learn a lot from her.

Great, maybe she should host American Wheels.

- Believe me, I tried. - What?

Relax, I'm kidding. I'm kidding.

You're the auto expert, Nikki.

It has to be you. I am betting it all on you.

Great, no pressure. What if I say the wrong thing

or what if I fall down again?

20,000 people are gonna watch me fall down.

Well, if that happens,

we'll get another viral moment out of it.

Haha, so funny.

Yeah, thanks for that. Any um, last words of advice?

Don't fall.

So helpful.

Okay,

here's what I tell my niece when she has to give

a report to her class,

close your eyes.

Take a deep breath.

(inhales and exhales deeply)

And now, just pretend you're talking to a close friend.

All right, ready to roll?

Hey, hey, you've got this.

Thank you.

All right, we're rolling in three...

And now, here with me at Larry's Somernites Cruise

is mechanic and viral video sensation, Nikki Turner.

Thanks, Larry, great to be here.

(playful music)

(engine revving)

Sparks, you in here?

No.

Okay.

But if you were, I'd tell you you have no reason to be.

The interview went great.

I called Naomi Mamona, Larry on live TV.

Yeah, yeah you did do that, but you didn't fall down.

And according to Jeremy, that's a huge improvement.

Do you think, do you think he's mad at me?

Why would he be mad at you?

Because I just keep letting him down.

I mean, he really thinks that I can be the next host

of American Wheels, but...

I just keep making a fool of myself.

Everybody makes mistakes.

Were you the world's greatest mechanic

your first day on the job?

- Well, no, but-- - Exactly.

Cut yourself some slack.

You were great in that video and you're great now.

But that's the thing, people keep wanting me

to be the Nikki in that video

and I've been that Nikki my entire life.

And trust me, she's not what people wanna see.

Jeremy seems to think she is.

Yeah, but Jeremy doesn't even know me.

Then show him who you are.

I think he'll be pleasantly surprised.

I'm not so sure.

Well, there's only one way to find out.

I guess.

Hey guys, I'm Nikki.

Nikki with an I not a Y. Sometimes...

sometimes people spell it wrong.

(video continues indistinctly)

Knock, knock.

Did you forget something?

Oh, shoot.

Were we supposed to have dinner tonight?

Yeah, it's fine.

I thought you'd be stuck at work

so I brought dinner to you.

You're the best.

Just remember to people please your sister

- once in a while, okay? - Yeah, I know, I know,

I'm just, it's... the partners are just...

I get it. You gotta keep the partners happy.

Yeah, especially with Chase.

Oh, I still can't believe that he did that.

I know. But that's Chase.

You know what? Enough Chase talk,

because I've got some big news

and I feel like we didn't properly catch up last time.

So, you know Charlie's best friend Erin?

Jeremy?

Hello?

I'm-I'm sorry, I just gotta upload some content

but I don't know, it's just, it's not working.

Ooh, she's cute. New client?

Yeah, her name's Nikki Turner

and if I, if I can just get some decent content,

she will be the next host of American Wheels.

Why does she look so familiar?

She's from the viral video that made Chase fire me.

- Wait, she's your new client? - Yeah.

Jeremy, that's genius.

Thank you. I thought so too. But now I'm not so sure.

Why?

I want the videos to feel like you stepped

into the world of someone real,

that no matter who you are,

you could be a rock star mechanic. This is how.

Yeah, like how it felt

when you saw her in that Chase video.

- Exactly. - Then why is she dressed

like she's in a music video?

Because she thinks they'll do better

- if she looks like Gia. - A world famous pop star?

Right, and it's not working.

Well, I guess you can't really blame her

for wanting to create something

that she thinks people will like.

Okay, except, it's not what people wanna see.

She's just scared, Jeremy.

I mean, not everybody deals with rejection the way that you do.

And what's that supposed to mean?

Well, for some people,

it's easier to pretend to be somebody else.

While others become an incessant people pleaser.

Ouch.

Look, my point is,

you've got to meet her where she's at

and not where you want her to be.

Okay, and then what?

You show her that she's enough.

And maybe you become a little vulnerable yourself,

a little bit, hmm?

How'd you figure all this out?

Eh, years of practice.

Now eat something,

because you're not gonna create the next host

of American Wheels on an empty stomach.

Sweet ride.

(wheels clicking, brakes squeak)

I thought you might like to see how I get around.

You ride everywhere on that? That sounds exhausting.

Well, my doctor says I'm in excellent

cardiovascular health.

I like the new look.

Oh, um, it's actually my old look.

I thought I'd show a little bit more of myself today.

That's funny 'cause I actually wanted

to show you a little bit more of me today, too.

- What do you mean? - My sister's car won't start

and I thought we could help her out.

Will I get to hear about what a huge dork you were

- in high school? - It's her favorite subject.

- Okay, then we have a deal. - Lead the way.

(women giggling)

Oh my gosh, why was he dressed like that?

I know. It wasn't even Halloween.

I hope that you posted these online.

Oh, I've been saving them just in case

I ever need a kidney. (laughs)

If you think that one's bad, you should see this one.

All right, all right, all right.

I think we've seen enough.

What do you say we do what we actually came here for?

Oh, I definitely came for the embarrassing photos.

- Uncle Jeremy! - Charlie!

- Uncle Jeremy. - Charlie! What's goin'... on?

Wait. I know you.

You're the mechanic who gave Chase Wheeler

a lesson in girl power.

- Good to see you too, Charlie. - Oh, my God.

- Nice to meet you. - What are you two doing here?

Nikki's gonna help us with the car.

Oh, cool. Do you think it's the starter motor?

Maybe the timing belt? Or the ignition coil?

She's really into cars.

Wow, you really know your stuff. I'm impressed.

I researched all about it after I saw your video.

I wanted to try and fix the car myself

but my mom said I couldn't 'til I'm older.

Well, I'd have to agree with her on that.

But I could use an assistant.

Can I, Mom? Please, please, please, please, please.

- Oh come on, please? - Okay, just be sure

to do your homework when you finish.

Okay. Thank you. Oh my gosh! I... my name's Charlie,

by the way. I'm a huge fan. You're just like so cool.

Thank you.

- (clears throat) - So, I see you took my advice?

Shut up.

- (laughs) - Oh wait, come look!

- I've seen it. - Look at this,

- my little baby brother. - Oh, got it.

Okay, do you see it down there?

- Oh yeah. - Okay, so now we're gonna

take it out. Socket wrench.

- There you go. - Thank you.

And we're gonna remove all of the bolts and then,

disconnect those wires.

Do you remember what the wires do?

Connect to the battery so it has a charge?

Exactly. (chuckles happily)

Okay. And voila!

Okay, so that's a starter motor.

- Correct. - Okay.

So, this is a starter motor,

and just like the name suggests, it's responsible

for getting the engine going.

Do you remember how we figured out the problem was the starter?

We listened to the engine and there was no sound

when we tried to start it. Checked the battery

- and then the alternator. - Exactly.

Okay, I also checked the wires

that connect the battery to the starter motor

to make sure they aren't the problem.

So, now, all we have to do is insert the new starter,

reconnect the wiring, and the car should start.

Good as new.

I'm Nikki Turner, and like this bad boy,

I'm just getting started.

(claps)

Sweet, okay. Wait, am I gonna be famous now?

- Yes. - Not if you don't finish

your homework, young lady.

Ugh, okay, fine.

I'm coming, okay. Bye, Nikki.

- Bye. - Bye, Uncle Jamie.

- Uh-huh. - Yeah-huh.

- (giggles) - You told her to say that,

- didn't you? - Sorry, I had to.

(laughs)

You were great. In the video.

Thanks. That felt really good to just be me.

Well, if you can drop me back at the office,

I can edit and we'll post it tomorrow.

I still have to finish the car.

It takes a little more time than that

to attach a new starter motor.

- Right, duh. - But I did just

lose my assistant.

Care to lend a hand?

I know you don't actually need my help.

- (laughs) - True. But if we really

wanna show Charlie that anyone can be a mechanic,

who better than her uncle,

who rides the same bike she does?

Ah! Very funny.

You should use some of that humor in the next video.

- Okay, I will. - All right.

I'm gonna let you finish this actually.

Okay, so this is, is this--

- This is the starter motor? - No, no.

What am I looking at here? This is...

- I don't know what this is. - Okay, okay.

(engines revving)

Yo, yo, I'm Nikki Turner.

No, that was stupid. (laughs)

Hey guys, what's up, it's Nikki Turner,

and today, I'm gonna show you the V8 engine

on this vintage Chevy C10 Square Body.

Strap yourself in because this could be a wild ride.

Today, I'll be teaching you about radiator maintenance.

Today, we'll be changing a tire.

Now, I'm gonna spin! (laughs)

What are you doing?

Today, I'll be showing you how to use a socket wrench.

(wrench clangs)

Reviewing the 2023 Dodge Challenger.

We're gonna jack this baby all the way up.

So now, we're just gonna loosen up this bolt here.

As you can see, the radiator is located

at the front of the engine.

Lift very carefully and then place it like so.

Hey, what's up, I'm Nikki Turner.

(energetic rock music plays)

(indistinct chatter)

(*)

Thanks for watching. I'm Nikki Turner.

Thanks for watching. I'm Nikki Turner.

Thanks for watching. I'm Nikki Turner.

Nikki Turner. Nikki Turner.

Nikki Turner. Nikki Turner.

Nikki Turner.

And today's the day I teach you how to drive.

Do you really think this is a good idea?

About as good as making me an online sensation.

- Hmm. - Besides, you promised.

I know, but I really do have a lot of work to do tonight.

And I really do need you to get in the car.

- Hmm. - Come on! Let's go.

You're really not gonna let me get outta this, are you?

No. But I will let you pick the music,

which, in my car, is kind of a big deal.

All right, golden oldies, it is.

I regret it already.

Okay. So, where are we goin'?

Driver's choice.

Is there anywhere you've ever wanted to drive?

Hmm. Um...

Well, I always wondered what it would be like

to go to a drive-thru window of a fast-food restaurant.

I'm kidding. I'm kidding.

Um, maybe somewhere that's too hard to bike to.

I think I know the perfect place.

Okay, come on, let's get this show on the road.

I don't have all day, you know?

Relax, okay. Just close your eyes,

take a deep breath. Don't fall down!

Cute. All right.

Ready.

Quick and Dangerous, here we come.

(engine turns over then rumbles)

You were right.

My legs would've died getting up here.

The way you drive, it might've been quicker

if we walked. (laughs)

But then you wouldn't have gotten to experience

the wonders of drive-thru fast food.

Mm-hmm. Guess I can finally tick that off the bucket list.

To stepping out of our comfort zones.

I still can't believe we're doing this.

I know. Kate's been trying to get me to drive for years.

You guys are still pretty close, huh?

She's my best friend.

Growing up, our parents worked a ton

so it was pretty much just the two of us.

That's how it was with me and my dad.

We were inseparable.

He would take me to the garage

and show me how everything worked.

It's where my love of cars came from.

He actually used to bring me up here sometimes

after working in the shop.

Well, I think he'd be really proud of what you're doing.

Making content for social media?

Sharing your passion with the world.

The same way he shared his with you.

He was an amazing mechanic.

The kind who would teach you something every time

you brought your car in.

Well, I guess it runs in the family.

I just... I wish I had his confidence.

You do, you just don't always know where to find it.

Luckily, that's why I'm here.

To push me to do scary things?

To remind you what you're capable of.

(Jeremy's phone buzzes) Oh, hold.

Luckily, I'm here to remind you

that there are more important things to do on a Saturday

than work. You know what?

You're coming with me to Larry's anniversary party.

Work can wait.

- Okay. One condition. - Hmm.

- You drive. - Of course.

I wanted to make it there before

their next anniversary anyways, so...

Funny.

(rock music playing)

- After you. - Such a gentleman.

Look at this, they really did it up.

Yeah.

Hey, Sparks! I didn't know if you were gonna make it.

Sorry we're late.

Thought maybe you were getting too famous for us.

What? Me, no, no way.

- Soon. - I see you, uh, brought a date.

Uh, no, I was just giving Jeremy a driving lesson

and we lost track of time.

So, I'm just tagging along. Hope that's okay.

Ah, you kidding? The more, the merrier.

Carlos! Hey!

(upbeat country music plays)

He's got quite the moves.

At least he's a better dancer than he is driver.

I wasn't talking about his dancing.

What's that supposed to mean?

Ah, nothing.

So, how's the journey to superstardom coming along?

Honestly, pretty good.

I never thought I could have so much fun making these videos

but it's been such a blast.

You wanna know something crazy? I have 50,000 followers now.

Wow.

I still don't really understand social media

but that sounds like a lot.

Feels like a pretty big deal.

I knew once everybody saw the Sparks that I knew,

they'd love you as much as I do.

- Old softie. - I guess that's what

being married 40 years will do to ya.

I can't imagine being married for 40 years.

Goes by in a flash if you're with the right person.

How do you know if you've found the right person?

- Asking for a friend. - Oh.

When they accept you for who you are.

And you bring out the best in each other.

And you can't imagine going through life without them.

No matter how challenging things get,

you still want them by your side.

That's really great that you found that.

You will too, Nikki.

You'll see.

Might even be closer than you think.

If you're insinuating that there's something

between me and Jeremy, let me assure you

that it is strictly business.

Whatever you say, kiddo.

I'm just glad you're both here.

You know, I haven't seen you this happy in a long time.

(bottles clink)

You're missing the speeches.

Shoot. Give me one second and I'll be back.

- I just got some-- - Work stuff to finish?

Yeah. But go on ahead.

I don't what you missing it on my account.

Uh, believe me, I've had a lifetime's worth

of Larry's speeches. Right now, he's telling the one

about their first date and he's at the...

gazpacho incident.

(laughs) Yep.

That's... well,

since you're here, I actually have some big news.

- Okay. - What?

I was gonna wait until after the party to tell you

but I heard from the producers of American Wheels.

They love what we've been doing

and they wanna bring you in for a meeting.

- Wait, what? Are you serious? - Yes, it's really happening.

I can't believe it!

Are you sure that I'm ready?

Well, 50,000 people certainly think so.

I know but what do you think?

I think that I have never,

ever been interested in watching a show

about cars until now.

Wait, you've never seen American Wheels?

I mean, I've watched clips online for research.

But I'm more of a Shark Week guy.

Well, I've seen every episode. Twice.

Wow, you really love the show.

Yeah, I grew up watching it.

I didn't exactly fit in with the other girls in my school

'cause I was more into motors than makeup.

And the boys didn't like that I knew more

about cars than they did, so...

watching American Wheels made me feel less alone.

Growing up is hard.

Says you.

I bet even though you were a huge dork,

you were probably still prom king.

No. Although, I did help

run a very successful campaign for Billy Stevenson.

So, you've always been working in PR.

Pretty much, yeah.

I guess I thought...

my ticket to popularity was helping the cool kids

- out with stuff. - Looks like it worked.

You hang out with movie stars now.

Oh, and let's not forget

the very first female host of American Wheels.

If I don't mess up the interview.

Well, from one outsider to another,

I think you are going to nail it.

Thank you.

Pew!

All right, let's get back to the party.

Okay.

(engines revving)

(breathing nervously)

I think I'm gonna throw up.

Are you listening to me? I don't think I can do this.

Hey, relax, all right? This is not even an audition.

They just wanna meet you to get to know you.

I know, but they've seen my videos.

Which is why they wanna meet you.

(Nikki sighs)

But who am I? I mean, really.

You are Nikki "Sparks" Turner

and you were born to do this,

so you get in there and you show them that.

Hey, Larry's Luxury Auto, right?

How's your cat doing?

Oh boy.

We love your videos, Nikki.

We think you're doing really great stuff.

Thanks, Mr. Holden.

Please, call me Brad.

I had no idea when I met you at the shop

that you were interested in this industry.

Neither did I. I mean, I wasn't really,

but I've always been a big fan of the show.

And now, we're really big fans of yours.

Plus, we're excited to be working with Jeremy again.

He's all right.

Trust me, a good PR agent's a dime a dozen.

Guys like Jeremy, they're a rare find.

We're just happy you agreed to see us so late in the game.

It was Nikki that actually made us rethink

our whole casting process.

Really?

Yes. I read that article you recommended,

and you're absolutely right.

We need to push American Wheels into the 21st century.

And having an inspiring female host

is something that we should definitely consider.

I just want people to see me

and think if I can do it, they can too.

And that's exactly what we're looking for.

Plus, female car enthusiasts

are currently an untapped market

that could really boost your ratings.

What? I listen when you tell me things. Sometimes.

You're absolutely right. Like I said, we love the videos

and all the work that you've been putting in.

Your whole social media presence.

We feel like we already know you

and that is exactly how we want our audience to feel.

Well, with me, what you see is what you get, so...

And we think that's great.

So, if it's all right with you,

we want you to come in for a screen test.

How's Monday at 3:00 PM?

With everything moving so quickly,

it's the only time we can see you.

- We'll be there. - Sounds good.

- Keep up the good work. - Thank you.

- I told you, you'd nail it. - I did, didn't I?

You were great!

(chuckles softly)

Uh...

- I gotta go. - What? We should go celebrate.

This is what we've been working for.

We will, I promise, but the partners

wanna talk to me about something.

You know you're allowed to say no sometimes.

Not to me, but to other people?

- I will see you tomorrow. - Okay, bye.

(tender music)

You'll get used to it.

I remember the first time I saw my face on a billboard.

Couldn't take my eyes off of it.

I caused a three-car pileup and totaled my Corolla.

My face isn't on anything yet.

But it sure is nice to look at.

- (chuckles) - What?

Sorry, I'm not really good at apologies. Can I start over?

Sure.

I feel like I was being kind of a jerk

when you were just trying to help me.

You clearly know your stuff and I never properly thanked you

for fixing my car.

Yeah, anytime.

I didn't realize you were a celebrity mechanic

or I would have had you look at the rest of my collection.

Oh, um, I'm not.

I mean, I wasn't until the video went viral.

Well, I guess it worked out for us both.

Now you're up to be the next host of American Wheels

and I met the most beautiful mechanic in the city.

I'm running late for my meeting with Brad, but...

what do you say we have dinner tomorrow night?

I'd like to get to know my competition.

Great. I'll send a car to pick you up at 8:00.

Text me your address.

Thanks for watching. I'm Nikki Turner.

(keyboard clicks)

Thanks for watching. I'm Nikki Turner.

(keyboard clicks)

Jeremy, congrats on the American Wheels meeting!

We told you to think outside the box.

And you reinvented the wheel.

- (laughs) - Mixed metaphors aside,

we have some excellent news.

Are you familiar with the pop star Gia?

She's one of the world's biggest celebrities.

Well, she's looking to rebrand.

Wants to go in a different direction.

Create a more down-to-earth image.

And she specifically requested to meet with you.

Really? The--

This could be huge for us.

And for you. You bring in our biggest client,

you'll be our top publicist.

And we'd even consider making you partner.

That's how important landing Gia is to us.

- Thank you. - You're welcome.

Thank you.

Obviously her schedule is incredibly tight,

but she has a small window on Monday at 3:00.

So, that's when you'll meet.

- This Monday at 3:00? - Yes.

I-I can't. Um, is there any other day that works?

Well, she leaves to start her European tour later that day

and she wants to make a decision before she flies out.

Well, I have Nikki's big screen test for American Wheels.

I promised her I'd be there.

American Wheels is small fish compared to Gia.

Jeremy, this is everything you have worked so hard for.

This is a career-making move, Jeremy.

This is not something you say no to.

Right, uh... you're right. I'll be there.

- All right. Okay. - Good.

Okay, and then, we're just gonna move this here

- and what do you think? - It looks great.

Right? Okay, and now I know what a carburetor is.

You mean, they don't have them on bicycles?

The only thing I need to make Xena here run

are these two legs and a need for speed.

Hold up. You named your bicycle Xena,

as in the warrior princess?

What? Car people do it all the time.

Yeah, because cars have personality.

And Xena here, doesn't?

Eh, I'd say she's more of like, a Dorothy or a Martha.

Okay, okay, Martha, Warrior Princess.

My grandma would be so proud.

(laughs)

- Okay. - I can't.

- Just posted. - Sweet.

Think we're good to go.

Uh, before I forget,

I wanted to uh, to ask you, what are you doing tonight?

- Um... - Kate's letting Charlie

cook dinner and she wanted me to invite you.

Okay, this is gonna sound crazy but I--

- (Jeremy's phone buzzes) - Oh, hold on.

Hold that thought. One second.

You gotta be kidding me.

Chase is still in the running for the American Wheels gig.

I can actually feel my anxiety nightmares coming back.

Okay, I'm sorry. You were saying.

Oh uh, nothing. I-I actually have to work tonight but...

- Oh. - Tell Kate I said thanks.

Okay. Uh, wait, you're working on a Friday night?

Yeah, with you know, everything going on,

I haven't spent much time in the shop, so...

- Right. - Gotta make up for it.

- Yeah. Okay. - Sorry.

Well, you're gonna miss out on Charlie's famous

spaghetti mac and cheese.

That does sound delicious.

Can we raincheck?

If my stomach survives. (laughs)

I'm sure Charlie would love that.

So would I.

- See ya. - Bye.

(engines revving)

And you've got to diversify your portfolio.

And I love steak. So I just bought the place.

Wow. Cool.

Who's your business manager? I've got a great guy.

And he just got acquitted so he can take on new clients.

Oh, I don't think I need a business manager just yet.

But who handles the cashflow for all your sponsorship deals?

Oh, well, right now I'm mainly just getting paid

in free swag.

So, if you need a mattress protector

I can give you my code for 20% off at checkout.

- (chuckles) - Just you wait.

The big bucks are comin' soon.

I have laundry powder in Japan,

bidets in Dubai, and good, old-fashioned,

homegrown American corn, right here in the States.

Nice. I love corn.

Corn sales went up three percent when I posted about it.

I'll tell you something, if you find yourself

a good publicist, you'll be set.

I just hired a new PR agency.

I can give you their info if you want it.

Uh, thanks, but I actually have someone.

All right, so now you're gonna wanna take a couple

- noodles of spaghetti. - Mm-hmm.

And...

throw them against the wall and see if they're done.

- (laughs) - No!

Charlie Ruth,

you'd better lower that ladle right now, young lady.

Stop encouraging her.

Come on, this is great content.

- Yeah, Mom. - For what?

You're 13 and your entire audience

is standing right here in this kitchen.

Now hurry up and strain that pasta 'cause I'm starving.

(both): Buzzkill.

(scoffs)

(jazzy music playing)

I still can't believe Jeremy Mitchell is your publicist.

And I can't believe you finally learned his name.

- (scoffs) - What do you mean?

It was just an ongoing joke we had.

Did Jeremy know that?

He never said anything.

Kinda what I liked about him.

And he seems to be doing great with you.

Maybe I was a little hasty to let him go.

Well, stay back. He's mine now.

- Oh, are you two... - No, no, no, we're just...

working together. That's all.

Okay, good.

That was surprisingly good.

Clearly Charlie didn't get her culinary skills from you.

I know, right? She obviously gets those from her dad.

I'm just sorry Nikki couldn't make it tonight.

I think Charlie was really looking forward to seeing her.

Have you told her yet that you're not gonna

make it to the screen test?

- (sighs) - I was gonna.

But you chickened out?

She just gets this look on her face

when she's disappointed

and I hate to be the one that's causing it.

Well, you know, you could always still go with her.

No, I can't. The partners need me at this meeting with Gia.

This could make my career.

I thought getting Nikki on American Wheels

- was gonna make your career? - It w...

Okay, with Nikki, it's still a gamble.

Gia's a mega star. It's a sure thing.

Well, Jeremy,

maybe this is about more than just your career.

Okay, you don't know what you're talking about.

(laughs)

Well, you're gonna have to tell her at some point.

The meeting's on Monday. And the sooner the better.

You said she was working tonight, right?

Yeah.

Well, bring her some leftovers and break the bad news.

- You think? - Alternatively,

you could go and confess your undying love for her.

(chuckles) I'm kidding.

- Yeah. - But Charlie isn't.

She's already planning the wedding.

Is she now?

Well, we don't wanna disappoint Charlie.

Okay, all right.

Leftovers are in the fridge. Go.

All right, I'll do it.

(energetic electric guitar plays)

Carlos?

- (music stops) - J-Jeremy?

What are you doing here?

Oh, I was just uh...

I'm sorry, I gotta ask, why are you dressed

like you're in a Guns 'n' Roses music video?

This? Uh, a couple of boys and I are in an 80s band.

We practice here every Friday. They'll be here soon.

Cool. Well, I just came to see Nikki.

Nikki? I haven't seen her all day.

Well, that's uh... that's weird.

- Hmm. - I uh...

- must've got my wires crossed. - Hmm.

Um...

if you see her, could you give this to her?

What's this? (sniffs)

Spaghetti mac and cheese!

That's actually exactly what it is.

I think you should give it to her yourself.

She'd prefer that.

- Thanks. - Anytime.

Take it easy, Carlos.

- I had a really great time. - Me too.

Great. We should do this again sometime.

Yeah, that'd be nice.

Yeah?

- Yeah. - How's Sunday?

As in two days from now?

Oh, I um should really prep

for my screen test on Monday, so...

That's perfect. We'll have dinner

- and I'll help you prep. - Oh, that's not what I was--

I've done a million of these things.

You'll thank me for it later. One for the fans.

Oh.

(camera shutter snaps)

And coming up after the break, I sit down

with celebrity talk show host and avid car collector,

Jay Leno, to talk all things driving and denim.

That was great. You're nailing it.

You're gonna kill it tomorrow. You don't even need me.

Wait, is Jay Leno gonna be there?

I don't think so.

- Are you sure? - I'm pretty sure.

That would've been cool, though.

Yeah.

Um...

hey, I actually need to tell you--

(Jeremy's phone buzzes) Oh, hang on, one second.

Were you with Chase last night?

What do you mean?

Charlie just texted me a photo of the two of you.

What?

Did you lie to me?

Uh... no. I mean... kinda.

(scoffs) Okay, only because I didn't

want you to get upset.

Why, because you're hanging out

with the guy who fired me?

Exactly.

Chase is your competition

for the American Wheels gig, Nikki.

He is the last person you should be spending time with.

He's not a good guy.

He's probably just trying to mess with your head.

Oh, okay, I see. I guess there's no other reason

for someone like Chase to wanna spend time with someone like me.

- So, it was a date? - No, he...

he just wants to help me.

- (scoffs) - Trust me.

The only person Chase wants to help is himself.

So, I guess you're just doing this

out of the kindness of your own heart?

And what is that supposed to mean?

It means that you're just doing this

because it's good for your career.

Is that what you really think?

- (exhales) - Where are you going?

Spaghetti mac and cheese.

From Charlie.

I don't bring other clients

around to spend time with my family.

But if that's who you think I am, then you're right.

Good luck Monday. You'll do great.

Wait, you're not coming?

No. I have a meeting with a client

that could actually help my career.

Great.

Great.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got a lot of work to do

to get ready for the meeting that actually

- means something to me. - Yeah, of course,

I'd better get going anyway 'cause I don't wanna be late

for my second date. With Chase.

- I thought it wasn't a date? - Well, it is now.

- Great. - Great.

I knew I was right to fire that guy.

Well, I shouldn't have lied to him.

And now, I'm not even sure if I have a publicist anymore.

Good. Who needs them?

Weren't you just saying how good your new publicist is?

And they are. But it's nothing I couldn't do myself.

I don't know. I don't think I could've done

any of this without Jeremy.

Forget about Jeremy. You know what?

Let me help you.

(laughs)

Oh wait, you're serious?

I've been in this game awhile now,

so I do know a thing or two.

That would actually be amazing.

Great. My first piece of advice to you

is don't do American Wheels.

- Wait, what? - Just stick to your little

videos and posts.

You don't wanna go too big, too quick. You're not ready.

- And that's okay. - Well, I think I am

and clearly the producers think I am too

or they wouldn't have invited me to screen test.

Look, I just don't want you to embarrass yourself.

American Wheels is the big leagues.

You're still a small fry.

My thousands of followers don't seem to think so.

Which you only have because of me.

Look, let's not forget how this whole thing started.

Listen, you and I both know the only reason

why you're sitting across from me right now

is because you can't do this by yourself.

You're out of your depth, Nikki. This is my territory.

I'm the biggest star in the world

and you're just some girl with a wrench.

(melancholy music)

(crickets chirping)

(man on TV): We'll be right back with more American Wheels.

All right, kiddo, time for bed.

Say goodnight to your Uncle Jeremy.

Okay. All right.

- Night, Charlie. - Good night, Uncle Jeremy.

- Love you. - I love you, too.

- Sleep well. - I will.

(melancholy music continues)

Hey, didn't expect to see you here today.

Don't you have that audition thingy?

Yeah, I just decided the whole inspirational

host thing really isn't for me.

So, you're not going?

I just, I don't think it's a good idea.

I mean, I'm going up against Chase Wheeler.

I don't really stand a chance.

But you and Jeremy did all that work.

You can't throw that away.

Yeah, Jeremy and I aren't working together anymore

so it doesn't really matter.

Wait, what?

I really don't wanna talk about it.

Okay. But um... what should I tell Sophie?

Who?

The young lady who's just dying to meet

her favorite internet tube celebrity.

Hey, let her down easy, all right?

She got kind of excited when I told her

you might be the next host of American Wheels.

Wait, Larry. (sighs)

- Hey. - Hi.

Hey. I can't believe I'm meeting the @Sparks312!

Oh, you can just call me Nikki.

I love your videos.

Thank you.

I'm kind of obsessed.

I'm taking advanced auto shop at school this year

and Larry said I could intern here over the summer.

That's awesome. The world could use

a few more female mechanics. We are a rare breed.

I know. You know, I didn't even think

it was an option 'til I started following you, and now,

there's like, a ton of girls who wanna learn more.

- Really? - Yeah!

I found my squad through your videos.

We call ourselves The Garage Girls.

You're like, kind of our hero.

Uh...

Would you mind taking a photo?

They're like, they're gonna freak when they hear

- that I met you. - Yeah, for the next generation

of rock star mechanics, always.

(camera shutter snaps)

- Thank you. - Thank you. Bye.

Well,

looks like she took the bad news surprisingly well.

You did that on purpose.

Hey, that's all you, my friend.

In case you haven't noticed, you're kind of a big deal.

Well, the bigger they are, the harder they fall.

- You told me that. - I was talking about football.

And who said anything about falling?

I mean, it's pretty obvious I'm out of my league here.

I'd be setting myself up to fail.

So what if you fail?

I'll make a fool of myself?

And?

What's the worst that could happen?

Look, there's always gonna be people

that don't like what you're doing.

But you know what? You're not doing it for them.

Be yourself and do it for the people who love you

for who you are.

And by the way, when you find those people,

never let 'em go.

But what if it's too late?

Well, trust me, it's never too late.

You just gotta go out there and let 'em know

you feel the same way.

We aren't talking about American Wheels anymore, are we?

Eh, life, love, it's one and the same.

I'm going to the audition, aren't I?

The only way you truly fail is by giving up on yourself.

And the people that think you're amazing.

When did you get so wise?

Eh, I don't know. I guess it's one of the perks

of being an old fart.

So, what are you waiting for? Get outta here already.

Thank you.

(birds chirping)

Jeremy! I'll be right down.

- Hi! - Hey.

Oh, Jeremy, thanks for coming!

Sorry to keep you waiting. Oh.

We're planning a charity weekend when I come back

from tour and we had to finalize the activities.

No worries. I'm just so glad this all worked out.

Oh, me too. Let's take a seat.

- Oh, thank you very much. - You're very welcome.

(giggles)

I am so excited to meet with you.

I'm looking to do a big rebrand

and I love what you've been doing with Nikki Turner.

Oh, well thank you.

I'm surprised she's even on your radar.

Uh, my little sister loves cars

and is obsessed with her videos.

Um, I did some digging and after talking with your agency,

found out that you're the one who discovered her.

Well, I mean, me and the 10 million

other people online that saw the Chase video.

You're the one who saw her potential.

Just part of the job.

All I do is help highlight the best parts of people.

Sometimes it's the parts that they don't even see themselves.

(Jeremy's phone buzzes)

And if we're being honest, in the case of Nikki,

it wasn't very hard.

Ugh, Jeremy, come on. Pick up, please!

- Totally killed it. - I appreciate it.

- Yeah, anytime. - Yeah.

Hey, Nikki, you're here, great.

Listen, you'll be up next.

- Chase. - Always a pleasure, buddy.

We'll be in touch.

Just so you know,

they practically offered it to me in there.

You're wasting your time.

If I really wanted to waste my time,

I'd ask you anything about cars.

There's more to this than just being an expert on engines.

Clearly.

Look, you can act tough all you want. It won't matter.

You're not cut out for this. You know it, I know it,

and I'm guessing Jeremy knows it, too.

Probably why he gave up on you. Break a leg.

Go ahead, let's hear about this rebranding

- you'd like to do. - Yeah, absolutely.

I love all that you're talking about.

(Jeremy's phone buzzing)

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm looking for,

to bring out more of my own, authentic voice.

Um... And...

And that's why I wanna turn into a big pineapple.

- Yeah, no, I totally agree. - Hmm. Yeah, yeah.

Um... about the pineapple?

Hmm? Wait, what?

(laughs)

A little distracted?

I am so sorry. I... um...

please, you have my full attention.

- Is... - I... I promise. Let's...

Is everything all right?

Yeah, everything's great, you know, it's just uh, it...

it's nothing. Where were we?

We were talking about being authentic.

Care to share?

Okay um... ah.

Okay, so there's this, this person I know.

- Mm-hmm. - And today was a...

it is a very important day for them.

And I feel like I should be there for them.

Do you have feelings for this person?

Come on, this is, this is juicy stuff.

Yeah, um...

it doesn't even matter. I'm pretty sure I blew it.

Then un-blow it.

- Wh... what do you mean? - Well, you said

today's a super important day for her, right?

Then go show her how important she is.

But um... what about this?

Honestly, this was a formality.

You can stay and keep selling yourself

but how disappointed will you be if you stay?

Now, go on.

- Thank you. - Mm-hmm.

- Where is he? - Nikki, we're ready for you.

(Nikki's phone buzzes)

All right, Jenny here is gonna cue you in.

The copy has already been loaded into the teleprompter.

Do you have any questions?

Mm-mm.

All right, whenever you're ready.

Hi, I'm...

Nikki.

Um, sorry, I think that's still Chase's script.

- What? - Yeah, it's uh...

Oh. Sorry, uh, just pretend it says your name, okay?

Right, my name. Of course. (chuckles nervously)

I thought that she was gonna do the cue thing?

It's okay, we're still rolling,

- so just say your name. Yeah. - Say my name, yeah.

Thanks.

Hi, I'm Chase Wheeler. Shoot, sorry.

Uh, let's cut.

Hey, do you need a minute?

What? No, no, no, I'll... I'll get it this time.

Are you sure?

Because my wife once called me by my brother's--

I'm sure. Let's just get this over with.

I mean, um, I'm really excited to be here. Let's do this.

All right. You heard her, everyone. Let's roll camera.

Hi, I'm um, Nikki Turner.

Welcome to American Wheels.

We've got a great show for you today.

I mean tonight.

You know what? I should take that again.

Would that be okay? I'll get it this time.

Are you sure you don't wanna take five?

(tender music)

(inhales and exhales deeply)

Hi, I'm Nikki Turner and welcome to American Wheels.

We've got a great show for you tonight.

I'll be test driving one of the hottest

new electric cars on the market.

Then we go for an off-roading adventure to Dubai.

And finally, our guest, Jay Leno,

gives us an exclusive look at his personal collection.

So, buckle up as we put the pedal to the metal

and kick this thing into high gear.

I'm Nikki Turner and this is American Wheels.

And cut. That was great.

Let's take five

and we're gonna set up for the interview. All right?

- Okay. - All right.

(sighs)

Hi.

Hi.

That was great.

Thanks.

(both): I wanted to...

(laughs)

Sorry, you go first.

Mm-hmm. Um...

I should have told you about Chase.

I should have told you about my meeting.

I just thought that you might get upset.

I didn't want you to think I didn't care.

Wait, you didn't go?

I left early.

What about the partners and your promotion?

There are some things

that are more important than just a career.

And worrying about what other people think.

(chuckles)

So, are you still my publicist?

Does a spark plug use a hex head?

- (gasps) - What?

(laughs)

What, you thought I wasn't paying attention?

I just didn't think that you cared about that stuff.

You make it really easy to care.

Can I...

can I ask you something?

Sure.

All right, we're ready to move on to B Block.

Let's get into positions, everyone.

Right, the interview portion of the screen test.

Remember what we practiced.

Don't call him Mr. Leno

and remember that I deserve to be here

just as much as he does.

Exactly.

Pew! You got this!

Wait, and it's still not the real Jay Leno today?

Still not.

- (scoffs) - Dang it!

(engines revving)

Welcome back to American Wheels.

I am now joined by the illustrious and illuminating

star of standup and late night.

He's also one of my close and personal friends, Mr. Jay!

And one of her close, personal friends.

I think she's actually having fun up there.

(chuckles)

- Thanks, Nikki. - Thanks.

I just can't believe this is her first TV gig.

You've done great work with her, Jeremy.

Thanks, but...

I didn't do anything other than bring out

what was already there.

And what was there...

was pretty incredible.

Yeah, behind every great star

is a publicist that knows their best angle.

Well, thanks for stopping by, Jay.

Give my regards to Camille. And remember,

a little baking soda and elbow grease

will get those Levis looking brand new.

Coming up after the break, we take a trip down memory lane

as I go for a spin in a custom 1969 El Camino.

Don't go away. We'll be right back.

All right, and cut. Let's get it. Good job.

I think that went really well.

- (laughs) - You do?

Absolutely. Naomi Mamona would be so proud of you.

Thanks.

So, about that thing that I wanted to ask you.

Ugh.

Oh, my God, what is he still doing here?

Is it normal for my competition

- to watch my screen test? - Is anything Chase does normal?

(sighs)

Hey, hey, hey.

Don't worry about him, okay?

This is about you.

You inspired thousands of women to be themselves

and show the world there's no job a woman can't do

just as well as a man.

You're the person people wanna see on their TV, not him.

I'm still not sure if I believe that.

Well, you don't have to, because I do.

Hey, Nikki, we're ready for you whenever you are.

You've got this.

- Pew! - Pew!

(chuckles)

Roll camera.

Welcome back.

Ever since I was a kid, one of my favorite cars

- has always been a 1972 GTO. - Jamie.

Chance.

How's life in the B league?

Oh, I spend a lot less time

watching you pretend to know about cars,

so I'd say, pretty good.

(Nikki): ...tell me that hard work makes dreams come true.

Funny. But we all know, if the partners asked,

you'd be back working for me in a heartbeat.

I think I'll be fine without you. And the partners.

Actually decided to open my own PR agency.

With a local mechanic as your only client? Ha.

I think you mean the next host of American Wheels.

Oh, and I've got Gia, so there's that.

(Nikki): It took six months to fully repair the Roadster,

but when it was done, it was a beauty to behold.

And that's why...

Ladies and gentlemen, we actually have

a special surprise for you today,

the star of highly accurate Quick and Dangerous films,

Chase Wheeler has been gracious enough

to grace us with his presence.

Come on up here!

Don't be shy.

- Come on, don't be shy. - I'm good.

Well, that's a first.

You see, Chase and I help each other out

from time to time. I helped Chase fix the engine

on his new car, and Chase watched me

fix the engine on his new car.

Guess you weren't so Quick and Dangerous that day,

were you, Chase?

Hey, but if I need help deciding which soda to drink

while my stunt double does my action scene,

I'll be sure to give you a call.

(crew claps)

(inaudible)

There you are!

I've been looking all over for you.

Nikki, that was amazing!

I have never seen anyone stand up to Chase like that.

Thanks. I'm kind of on a roll today, aren't I?

Nailed the screen test, stood up to Chase.

Got the guy?

What are you talking about?

Jeremy, you believed in me before I even did.

You saw something in me from the start and gave me

the courage to share it with the world.

I mean, if that's not what love is, then,

I don't know what is.

And no matter what happens,

this has been the best experience of my life.

Because it led me to you.

I'm gonna kiss you now, okay?

- Okay. - Yeah, okay.

(engines revving)

That's our show.

I'm Chase Wheeler and this is American Wheels.

Keep rollin' and don't forget to enjoy the ride.

(flame whooshes)

(laughs)

Wow.

I still can't believe they gave it to him.

Well, technically, they gave it to both of them.

Apparently, the studio loved their chemistry.

- (laughs) - But there was no way

I was gonna co-host with him.

- Yeah, Chase sucks. - Charlie!

I think it all worked out okay, though.

Me too.

(phone buzzes)

Is that work?

Ooh, tell Gia I say hi.

- How's her tour going? - Good. Good.

I'll check in with her later.

Okay.

One of the perks of being my own boss.

(chuckles)

Who are you and what have you done with my brother?

Oh, Mom.

Oh, guys, guys, it's starting.

Ooh, ooh, ooh.

Welcome to Sparx TV, I'm Nikki Turner.

(audience cheering)

Each week we will dive into different aspects

of auto maintenance, repair, and modification.

We will also have interviews with celebrity guests

and car enthusiasts from all over the globe.

(sizzling)

- Yay! - Oh, my God, that was so good!

That was great!

That was so good! (giggles)

Okay! Ooh, Uncle Jamie has a girlfriend.

(tender music)

(rock music)
