Hello.
In this lesson, we're going to work on the line drawing
on the rough sketch, we did last time.
It's been a really long process,
so I'll show you the most important parts,
starting with the retro cake in the center.
I used the photo as a reference
and observed the regular whipped cream pattern.
This is the most important part of being the main character,
so I'm using different thicknesses
of lines to increase the density.

I drew the outer edge with thick lines
and the inner details with thin lines.
The parts which are hidden by the teddy bear character
should be drawn carefully.
We can't see the parts actually
but I didn't want the parts to look awkward
or the position could be changed, so I drew them just in case.
And I drew the strawberries,
but the strawberry in the middle looks awkward
cause it looks like only a circle.
So I changed the layout
so that it could look like a strawberry.
Now, I'm going to draw the character
as a cute girl
with round eyes and a smile.
Likewise, I drew the outline with a thick line
and drew the details with a thin line.
Add details such as lace and buttons.
There is whipped cream inside the piping bag.
So let's make it soft and fluffy like a cushion.
I drew the wrinkles imagining
the parts where the character holding with her hand.
Draw the whipped cream
from the piping bag as well.
Now, I'm going to draw the teddy bear,
which is an original character of mine
called "Freckle Bear."
When I create my own original character
and put him in various illustrations,
it feels like there's
a connection between an illustration and an illustration.
It also feels like a continuous story.
I drew him with whipped cream
and gave him a funny look as he tasted it.
I added lace details to the apron.
For the teddy bear in the back
let's make him look flustered and naive
It was not easy to draw the lying strawberry
so I rotate the canvas.
We're done with the line drawing for the important part.
The parts I wanted to emphasize
in the drawing were made by using different thicknesses of lines
to draw the details.
Now, we're going to draw supporting objects.
We'll mostly use thick lines, so we won't draw too many details.
We'll keep it simple.
I thought it would be easy to draw the two-tier cake differently,
so I drew the centerline first.
I only drew the big details focusing on the three-dimensional structure
I make the numbers of the seeds for each strawberry different
so that they didn't look the same.
Also, for the tray of the cake extend the supporting line
from the cake to keep the center of gravity
in the same position.
I only drew half of the glass and then flip it.
I adjusted the top side to make it look thicker.
When we draw the inside of the glass,
just like we did with melon soda, let's add space here and there.

Make sure to draw the strawberries on the outside of the cup
and the ones on the inside will be sparse.
But when we zoom out and look at the overall picture,
the size of the strawberries on the cup is
too big to be consistent,
so let's reduce the size of the strawberries gradually
and add one more strawberry.
For the strawberry tap and the seeds,
make sure they don't look the same.
We've drawn the main characters and supporting characters.
Now, let's draw the background and the extras.
There are many symmetrical elements in the background,
so let's first draw one side and copy it to make it more efficient.
Let's not draw all the lines on the window
we will copy and rearrange the lines
many times and then retouch them.
Same with the curtain,
draw the half of it, copy and flip it.
And then erase the unnecessary parts,
clean it up a little.
The background is to support the drawing,
so draw it as simply as possible.
Now, I'm going to draw the extras which are decorating the drawing
with the ribbons stretched out.
Make sure the candles in the back
don't stand out too much and draw big shapes.
To draw the strawberry jam in the back accurately,
we will turn off the cake layer
and deleted the unnecessary parts.
The line drawing of the illustrations with the background is done.
I used thin lines for
the areas I wanted to emphasize.
And for the backgrounds and the extras I mostly focused on large shapes.
Depending on the importance of the objects
you want to emphasize,
if you draw different lines, it will look more balanced.
I spent about two to three hours on this line drawing.
Sometimes it takes longer than this.
So when I draw the illustration with the background
instead of drawing it all at once,
I take a break and draw for a few days.
You know, you look at something last night that you didn't like,
when you look at it again today, and it's fine,
and then all of a sudden, you see things that you need to fix.
It's a long process to draw an illustration with the background,
so take your time to draw it.
In the next lesson, we'll finally color on it.
And finalize the illustration!
It's almost done.
So we'll see you in the next lesson
