Hello, in this lesson

I'll do a rough sketch of the illustration with the background.

First, I'll draw a horizontal line

to divide the canvas into walls and the floor

and mark the location of the cake in the center.

And in the back, I drew a very big two-tier cake.

Based on perspective, you will see a little of the top side,

and you will see a lot of the top side as you go down.

Let's keep the perspective just enough so that it doesn't

look awkward and don't get carried away with trying to draw too accurately.

On the other side, let's draw a small glass.

I'm sure some of you are already aware of this.

I made a layout based on the triangle composition.

I made the position where the objects on the table

and the heights of them different

so that they form a triangle composition.

Now, I'm going to draw a character

with a giant whipped cream pouch

and draw a whipped cream deco on top of the cake.

In order to distinguish the size of the cake,

we started with a large body position with the head down,

and then we roughly drew the arms holding the whipped cream pouch.

Let's adjust the position.

Now, I'm going to draw a small character.

It's a good method when you want to create

multiple scenarios in one drawing

but hard to draw many characters at once.

It will make the story more colorful

than if the character is alone.

Position the tablecloths and curtains roughly.

I gradually adjusted the placement of the objects

and drew a small character on one side.

I adjusted the details that bothered me.

I also made the three characters based on the triangle composition.

Now, let's make a detailed sketch based on this rough sketch.

Draw it referring to the retro-cake image collection

that we collected during our research.

I focused on the regular shape of the whipped cream.

Draw the whipped cream on the bottom as well.

Since the cake is in the center so I'll decorate it nicely.

Let's the strawberries on top.

Now, let's draw the two-tier cake in the back.

First, trim it like the two cylinders into a pile.

By drawing the centerline make it symmetrical,

using the flip functions.

For the decoration for this, I'm trying to make it a little bit simpler than the cake in the center.

I'm also going to draw the strawberries that are on top.

It looks a little boring,

so I'm going to change the cake to look like it's been cut a little bit.

Draw it while imaging

what it would look like if I cut out a piece of the cylinder.

I temporarily drew the invisible part.

On the inside of the cake,

there are layers of cream and sheets.

For the glass, let's draw it

in a similar way to how we drew the melon soda in the last lesson

Using flip function, sketch it symmetrically.

I drew details on a retro-looking glass

that I found in the research.

I'm going to draw strawberries inside.

By expressing the strawberry caps, draw strawberries from different angles.

The sketch of the cake and objects is done.

Now, I'm going to draw the characters.

First, let's draw the body of the main character.

I drew her holding the whipped cream pouch.

I'm going to draw

a full-flowing dress with an apron.

We'll decide on the details of the hair and the outfit

while considering the color palette.

and I'm going to create

a teddy bear who is secretly tasting the cake.

The teddy bear in the back

is going to be holding a strawberry on top of her head and running.

By using small characters like these,

you can create various situations and stories in one drawing.

We'll decorate it with ribbons and aprons.

Now, I'm going to mix the colors roughly.

Based on retro concept,

and I'm going to use

red as my main color.

I'm going to color in where I want to use red

such as strawberries, ribbons, and dresses

Next, I'm going to color where I know exactly what color I want,

by controlling the color and painting the teddy bear

in a brown, that's closer to orange.

For this two-tier cake, it would be a chocolate cake.

The hair color of the character will be brown

while thinking about the hairstyle.

I'm going to draw her hairstyle like a teddy bear-like double bun.

Now, I'm going to color the background

with a low-saturation

and faded color so that it doesn't stand out.

I wanted the scenery outside the window to be night, so I added a dark color.

Rather than using pink for the curtains and tablecloths,

a yellowish tone would

suit the warm atmosphere of the end of the year.

That's why I changed it.

I changed the tablecloth to a lighter color so that it doesn't stand out.

I'm also thinking about the color of the middle cake.

I'm also coloring the rest of the cake carefully.

I think the green suits the Christmas spirit.

For the glass, let's draw a transparent glass with a red light.

Now, let's fill in the parts that look empty.

Make sure they don't stand out more

than the ones you drew in the front.

Draw green candles in the back

and draw a ribbon hanging down

cause the front part looks empty, too.

Ribbons can change shapes at will,

so if you can't think of any object,

they're the perfect thing to use.

This is where the colors feel a little bit off,

so we're going to make some color adjustments

by adding a new layer

and changing the blend mode to Multiply.

I've applied soft yellow

over the place to make it feel warm.

And on top of that, I've created an overlay layer,

and I've applied a reddish color.

The colors are more harmonious, right?

If you add a bright primary color to the overlay layer, it will overshadow the color,

so let's use a color that's more or less gray.

I like this feeling,

so let's continue while tidying up the background.

I filled in the empty space by putting some objects.

I had a hard time deciding what to draw on the front part in particular,

so I considered it many times.

I thought it would be distracting to draw something else,

so I decided to draw a long ribbon to fill in the space.

Now, for a moment, I'm going to turn off Multiply and the Overlay layer

and draw the costume details of the characters.

Whether to add a ribbon,

what to do with the collar and the sleeves,

what to do with the skirts pattern,

long sleeves or short sleeves

I considered it many times while keep drawing.

Now that we have some details,

we will draw a more detailed sketch of it.

The candle, jar of the strawberry jam, ribbons and etc.,

We will sketch the objects we added.

We also drew window frames with curtains and snow in the background.

I also drew the costume details and

the hands that needed detailed sketches.

A rough sketch of the illustration with the background is complete.

I used a triangle composition to make them look more

stable and not make them look empty,

and to add cute situations and stories to them

with small characters.

I also used Layer Blend Mode

to mix the colors based on the retro red color

I'm looking forward to seeing the final drawing.

Next lesson, I'll continue working on the line-drawing.

so I'll see you next time.
