A familiar is a cat or other animal who acts
as a sort of witch's assistant when casting a spell.
For a spell to work properly, the animal needs to be
close to the spell mixture at just the right moment.

I just can't get to seem to go my way.
No matter what I do, Custard won't come to visit.

to come anywhere near the house.
[Mandrake growling angrily]

Just like I made things go my way at my new home,
