[narrator] After losing their main food provider

to an infection,

protein has been scarce for Rachel and Justin.

I'm definitely getting, like, overheated.

has been slow to heal.

He decided to stay back and try to, uh, get this pig

to get a life preserver

on a boat that we found,

[Na'im] I've always felt regret about leaving Rachel

in Argentina by herself.

So I'm determined to redeem

and repair our relationship

that I broke when I left early the last time.

[Rachel] We actually have a beach when the tide's low.

It's actually kinda high right now.

[Kerra] We have finally made it,

Needed all of this. I'm so glad you guys are here.

[Justin] Honestly, I did a lot of work alone

for a few days because of Rachel's knee.

And boom, we have a new team, we have new partners

to help overcome this adversity

and get things done.

You've made it past the point you did last time!

on a rapidly disappearing beach...

[Andrew] It has risen about six feet.

[narrator] The daily rising tides have encroached

on Patrick, Andrew and Heather's camp...

[Andrew] Water's all the way up here.

Wow. We really need to consider moving locations.

[narrator] ...creating a division in the team

over what to do next.

[Patrick] I don't think we need to.

He's, like, absolutely acting like we're idiots.

[Heather] All of that little inlet

that we have right now is gone,

and it's still creeping up.

Like, here it comes again. Here comes another wave.

[Andrew] There goes all the sand

where our firewood was.

Just to show you the difference

between the ocean and our shelter,

we sleep here.

This is now the ocean.

This is what we're facing.

This is devastation beach.

[Patrick] It's a true adventure.

[Heather] You got problems, man.

I love you, but you really... I don't know

how many times you were dropped as a kid.

-You okay, Andrew? -Yeah.

[Patrick] It's really awkward

with my teammates right now.

Andrew and Heather both wanna leave.

Where are we gonna go?

What resources are we gonna find?

If there's one thing that I know

about a real high tide

is that it brings in a lot of food.

I'm not gonna leave a resource like that behind

just because of rising water.

Look at that. We get water.

Oh, it feels so good.

[Heather] I'm freaking out.

You can't sustain anything on here.

You're gonna be constantly running

in fear for your life and all your belongings.

Patrick, on the other hand,

acts like everything is fine.

He has great assets that he brings to the table.

We're stronger together.

But he's not thinking of the risk

of the rest of the group.

and I'm super, super-thirsty.

Tastes pretty salty to me.

So that high tide actually contaminated our water sources too.

Our freshwater source is completely gone.

[Heather] You think what's gonna happen if we drink...

if we drink brackish water.

Okay, it's gonna dehydrate you more.

How long until we start getting really sick

-in this heat? -Couple of days.

We can have all the proteins in the world

but if we don't have freshwater we're [bleep]

-[Na'im] Yo, you eat already? -[Justin] No.

[Kerra] I haven't eaten anything, really,

and it was a really long trek out here.

[Na'im] In the last few days,

we have literally eaten nothing but snail

and freakin' hermit crabs.

Now there's four of us here.

Yeah. Well, I think it's low tide.

We can at least go look for some stuff

we can scavenge and eat.

We need protein.

[Na'im] That's definitely a priority.

We expended a ton of calories moving.

We need to recoup some of that energy

if we're gonna, you know,

take some of the load off our new partners.

[Na'im] How's your knee?

Um, it definitely swelled up after

my little trip to the water yesterday.

I'm literally just taking it day by day right now.

Um, I can't really look at 21

'cause it just feels really far away.

So that's the goal,

and hopefully my knee will start to get better.

It's not enough food for all of us.

but we've gotta think

long-term solution what we're gonna do.

The water being this high, our freshwater is gone.

I do not think it will come back.

That means our water source here is dead.

The high tide is having more effects

than just water coming close to us.

[Patrick] But I'm trying to do a risk analysis in my head

and right now, I'm not quite ready to go.

[Heather] I don't know of another freshwater source,

and right now I'm depleted of all energy.

There is another water source that I saw further down

at the end of the beach.

I wouldn't mind exploring that way

-to see what that water source is like. -Yeah.

[Heather] Patrick does what Patrick wants to do

when Patrick wants to do it.

But we need water,

and Patrick's the best asset I've got right now.

That's the only choice I have.

-You wanna head out? -Okay.

That's our mantra at this camp.

Without freshwater, we're done.

Our challenge is over. That's it.

Uh, so it's either find it here,

or we have to move elsewhere on the island.

[Patrick] I understand that Heather and Andrew are panicked.

I understand why they're panicked.

Our water source could be tainted forever.

But I'm used to dealing with situations as they spring up.

I don't need backup plans.

I just figure it out on the fly.

Wow, look at all these coconuts.

All these could be a huge resource

to me and the team.

If we all came down here with a bamboo staff,

we could knock all the coconuts down

and bring 'em back to camp.

Then we'd have a stash of, like, several coconuts.

It's opening up in here.

Definitely a crocodile area here.

This is looking like kind of a dead end.

Didn't find the freshwater I was looking for,

but I did identify 20 coconuts that we can get,

um, if we come back as a team.

[Justin] Well, first dinner as a family.

[Na'im] That's an acquired taste for certain.

We're probably gonna have only one chance

to take this animal down

and it's not gonna feel good for him,

and he's not gonna be happy.

So we need to make weapon.

I found a piece of metal rebar.

So I straighten it as much as I can.

Next step is put a handle

so it'll be easier to put the power behind both arms.

Next is sharpen the edge of it so it'll pierce.

It's almost like a gigantic shank

so it can cut the skin and go through bones.

We got only two places. Lungs, or heart, or both.

The least painful way, at least.

That's beautiful.

I'm gonna declare tomorrow the Houdini day.

[pig snorting]

[Patrick] Hey, guys.

So, there's no water over there.

It's all saltwater.

I have a little bit of good news,

and that is I saw 20 good coconuts

that we can knock off, off of just two trees.

-Okay. -Because, like, I feel like

-we need those electrolytes. -I'm down with that.

Having coconuts is gonna be a great emergency,

-like, water source for us. -Yeah.

[Andrew] My biggest concern here is freshwater.

Our freshwater here is dead and we gotta hit the road.

[Heather] You're right.

-You both agree? -[Heather] I agree.

-[Andrew] It's not what I want. -Yeah.

No freshwater, we can't survive.

-[Patrick] Yeah. -There's no argument.

-And I think we want... -[Heather] Yeah.

That's what we were trying to mention yesterday.

We weren't trying to be argumentative with you.

We just both feared already with the tide coming in,

where we're at right now would be underwater.

Well, we're a democracy,

so as much as I do love this place,

if you guys both vote to move then I'm with you.

This location, it's given us the food that we've needed,

the fire that we needed.

But the risk versus reward

of being dehydrated isn't worth it.

I say tomorrow, let's do coconuts.

[Heather] We should hydrate up.

[Andrew] And that next morning, we need to go.

Right out there where the running water is, that's the source.

Okay, gotcha.

This place has been just rough.

There's really no sources of food.

The water source is, you know, 20 minutes away.

This location is just not going to be able to sustain us.

This isn't a great beach, man.

-[Justin] Nah. It has no... -[Na'im] It is very bare.

It was better, and there was fruiting trees

on some of those beaches, too.

-Yeah? -Like coconuts.

[Justin] Dope.

[Na'im] That's what makes me think, like,

where else could we move?

Where else could we go?

Eventually we're gonna have to start moving north

to get rescued, and, uh, like,

the terrain gets pretty aggressive, man.

-It takes a lot out of you. -Yeah.

Or we build a raft and hug the coastline

which we know is the north coastline.

One... Only one option really works

given Rachel's injury, though.

We have to build a raft and float her out of here.

Just like when I was in the Marines, like,

somebody gets wounded,

you don't just leave 'em behind.

You know? In some survival situations,

she could be looked at as an anchor,

but I really do feel like she's still, uh,

a strong member of this team.

I'm fully committed to getting her

on that raft and getting her out with us, dude.

I'm in it. I'm in. I'm right there with you.

Don't leave her behind.

[Heather] It looks like it's bluebird skies today,

which means the sun is gonna be unyielding.

[Andrew] Oh, my God, I have no energy.

[Heather] Oh, wow. There's a ton of 'em.

It's early in the morning, the sun is already...

scorching. And our bodies are scarred and bumps

and itchy and burning and...

I'm miserable today.

Going out in the morning heat

and gathering all these coconuts,

my body is just like, "Whoa."

Like, super-depleted.

And I'm like, "Oh, crap.

Man, am I gonna have enough in the tank

to really make this hike tomorrow?"

[Heather] Coconut is a good alternative

in patches, but, I mean, you can't have it

in large doses every day

because it's actually a diuretic.

It's going to dehydrate you.

You have to have freshwater.

And right now, I am concerned

we're not gonna be able to make this trek.

-You look tired. -Yeah.

I'm not feeling great, you guys.

[Heather] Okay. Let's get back and get some water.

Just gotta get out of the sun. Gotta cool down, and water.

[Na'im] So, guys, today we got something to talk about.

My instinct says we should migrate to a new place,

'cause I feel like there's better beaches,

there's better places for us

where there might be new food source, um...

It's gonna be rough if your knee is [bleep] up still.

I know. It's icky, it's swollen, it's...

[Na'im] From a mobility standpoint,

there is the ability to leave

with Rachel with us building a raft.

[Justin] I think a raft is probably the best option for now.

[Kerra] Moving scares the [bleep] out of me

because I know it's gonna be really difficult.

Honestly, ocean is the best option for all of us.

We can do the majority of our set-up during low tide.

-Yeah, yeah, exactly. -Okay.

[Na'im] Plan cemented.

I am looking at the lay of the land

as it refers to our driftwood.

This could work for us.

The best bet, though,

may be back over on the other side there.

I'm gonna cross over and just take a quick look over there.

There's a lot of good materials here.

[calling] Hey, guys! It's an area,

it's got a bunch of debris and materials.

So, there was a brown floatation buoy over there.

-[Kerra] Yeah. -And these were

the furthest ones out that I could see.

Okay.

[Na'im] Um, I'm gonna try get all of our materials

-in one place. -Yeah.

While I'm sad that there was so much trash and debris

that came up on shore,

without that trash we wouldn't have had the necessities

to build a raft.

Okay, so we got one beam.

What are we looking at? Two? Three?

And then whatever smaller ones we got there?

[Kerra] That long, skinny one there, a couple up there.

[Na'im] All right.

[Rachel] So, I'm sitting here

untangling the line for my teammates

so that they'll have some cordage to secure the raft.

It's good to have some fresh blood around camp,

like, switch things up a bit.

But, you know, I don't want anyone to have to carry me.

Just trying to stay positive,

light, and just keep pushing.

Yeah.

[Kerra sighs] Ooh, I'm getting burnt.

We're trying to get this log over these hot-ass...

the first tool I'm taking with me

is my rebar.

It's almost seven feet long.

We're on our way to safety.

I sharpened the edge the best as I can.

It will still pierce the skin.

Next is my stone made knife.

I made this couple of days ago.

It is razor sharp.

We'll go through the punches and see how it goes.

If he's there,

he's toast.

So, from here on,

is what I call the danger zone.

It is where the animal actually can be alive.

If somehow, he charges me,

and those tusks he got,

goes to my leg, and that's exactly what they go for,

I will bleed out before anybody can get to me.

From here on, it's very slow,

very quiet, and very stealthy.

[sighs] He's dead.

Man, look at those tusks.

It's obviously about a 100 pound pig.

It's a good size Houdini.

Pork goes bad very quickly.

The temperatures are rising, humidity is increasing.

I am literally racing against time.

Not bad for a rock, quite frankly.

You don't wanna rupture none of that.

I'm taking the guts out,

everything but the bladder, the bladder is full.

I think this is it.

Now, this is the tricky part, how do get this guy out of here.

How about if we twist it like a balloon?

It's... the rock is so sharp all around,

it's cutting my hand.

This leg is completely ready.

That's about 30 pounds.

That's a good [bleep] meat.

Nice and fresh.

It does need to be smoked, it's really thick.

It's day 14 and we have one man objective,

and that is to get off this beach

and away from these high tides.

[narrator] Over five miles from where they were originally stranded,

the castaways will continue pushing north

without a map in search of fresh water

while getting ever closer to the 21-day rescue window

on the northern tip of the island.

[Patrick] New chapter. We should get the gas.

[Heather] That's gonna save and come in clutch for us making a fire.

[Andrew] I'm very nervous about this hike.

My body is beat down, my energy level's about a 4 out of a 100.

Whatever happens, just gotta push through it.

So, I know it's gonna be a lot of hiking,

a lot of pain,

but that means we're onto new things.

-It's coming with us. -[Andrew] Yup.

I was a cheerleader for 14 years,

I love a good mascot.

[Patrick] That's a creepy mascot.

I still love it.

I know the last trek across this island was peerless,

and I don't know we're walking into.

And I think it's that unknown right there

that gives me a little bit of fear,

but, we know if we stay here,

all of our hopes are gonna be washed away.

[Rachel sighs] Tomorrow makes one week

since I've injured my knee.

As of right now, I'm not really seeing

any improvement in my leg.

You can see how much bigger this leg is, this ankle.

I'm just really struggling with whether I'm gonna stay in here

being carried by everybody.

You know, it's like, the last thing I want.

But I also, just like...

I'm not a quitter. [chuckles]

[exhales sharply]

[Na'im] Today is day 14,

and the objective for today is pretty... pretty clear.

We need to build a raft so that we can get out of this cove.

-We've got a bunch of cordage undone. -Yup.

Why don't I continue uncording,

-and you start lashing. -Uh-huh.

Sounds like a plan.

[Justin] I can unravel cordage if I'm gonna do it there in the shade.

Yeah, okay.

Ideally, they got these five things as cross beams.

You've got the maximum buoyancy right there in the middle.

It'll keep us from sinking for certain.

-[Justin] Oh, yeah? -[Kerra] Yeah.

[Na'im] Obviously, we're all hopeful that Bulent can meet us here.

So, we're gonna have to come up with

the most efficient design we could have for five people.

[narrator] Using a large plastic drum as the raft's center of buoyancy,

the team will lay down a series of parallel logs

lashed to a driftwood frame,

which extends out to include a front outrigger for balance

and more floating debris for additional support.

I am unraveling a bunch of washed up cordage for Na'im.

Um, he is tying up our raft.

He's doing an excellent job.

[Justin] Na'im's, man, he's-he's just such a hard worker,

and I feel like a switch goes off in Na'im's head

and I feel like he just wants to redeem himself

from the previous challenge.

-Some more, uh, cordage. A whole bunch. -[Na'im] Appreciate it.

[Justin] And I feel now

he's doing it more for Rachel than he is himself.

[Na'im] I feel really good about the lashes.

I don't think I'll be able to carry it all to the troops,

Instead of making it small, little sticks,

we are doing an entire leg,

because I only have to travel one day

to get to my partners.

Happy with the result and super excited.

Just like any meat in the bush,

you have to cook it well done plus too.

Or smoke dust the meat, it dries it out.

Flies need moist surface to lay their eggs.

So, that prevents them from laying the eggs.

But also, cooking it slowly,

internal temperature rises slowly,

dehydrating the meat, also cooking it at the same time.

So, basically, the entire process of making a jerky.

Oh, it's hot.

It's been couple of hours

it's been smoking, it's been cooking.

I'm taking a little piece.

It tastes heavenly.

Been malnutritioned for last 13 days,

this meat definitely gonna replenish

my vitamins I've been missing, minerals I've been sweating off,

and the energy source, the protein,

that I haven't been getting from the little prawns.

I would pay money for this.

We still got one option, and that's to

go up a little bit more and see what we can do.

I have to think beyond the next seven days.

just standing here, my leg is throbbing.

[Rachel crying] As much as my heart wants to be here,

I think the best thing for me to do

I just feel like I let myself down a bit

because I promised that I would get her out of here.

But I respect her decision. I understand why she does it.

She really toughed it out for several days,

and I'm super proud of her.

She's definitely gonna be missed.

Oh, my gosh.

I'm gonna miss all of you.

Rachel, I think, did something very valiant,

which was put her pride aside

and do what was the right thing,

not only for herself, but for the team too.

[Rachel] I would love to make it to 21.

There's nothing I want more.

But I can't, I can't have long-term problems because of this.

Like, it's not worth that.

There comes a point where you have to draw a line,

and I feel like I'm at that point.

[narrator] Rachel was taken directly to a hospital on the mainland,

where she was diagnosed with a fractured tibia and torn meniscus.

After being flown to the United States for surgery,

she is recovering and should be back to full health soon.

[Justin speaks]

-I was trying to keep her in 'cause I, I made that promise. -I know.

You kept her in way longer than she probably would have been.

-Yeah. -You certainly did, dude.

[Justin] We did what we could while we could.

But it's time to move on,

unfortunately, without Rachel.

[Na'im] We had a chance to take a do-over of Argentina and

walk across the finish line together,

and I was really hoping that would happen.

There's, there's a ton of challenges still ahead of us.

It's extremely difficult. It's one of the most difficult undertakings I've had.

And that finish line seems like it is forever away.
