I'm trying to follow those rules so that it works.

But you haven't done it out here.

Because you've done lots of bow drills.

You've told us about all the bow drills fires you've made.

-This is a saw drill. -So let's do it.

Every time I suggest something,

I feel that you always shoot it down.

You trying to say it in reverse,

that's how I feel it's been going on.

I haven't shot anything down.

I've been over there trying every style of fire I possibly can.

To the point like I have muscle cramps

in my ribs and my shoulders.

It sucks for all of us.

It's very frustrating.

It makes me wanna pull my eyebrow out.

three teams have entered their third day of the challenge.

In the northeast,

a mile and a half inland from shore...

[Na'im] The humidity here is high.

Yeah. I'm thinking we're gonna run into rain.

The issue is we don't really have the tools that we need

to build a good shelter.

have procured fire...

...makeshift blades...

[Na'im] I've continued to work on a knife

from the blades of the fan.

...and their first significant source of protein.

Mmm. Armadillo is--

Eating some armadillo.

...really tasty.

What are you guys thinking about getting that airplane wing?

[Na'im] Why are we getting the wing?

We can use the airplane wing and make a canopy.

Because the fire might be alive,

but we'll be soaking wet.

[Kerra] Where would you wanna put it? Like...

The wing is big enough for that.

And it's out of the way.

Is it worth the expenditure in calories?

At least it's proactively doing something

rather than just waiting for the rain to hit

and then saying, "Oh, [bleep], it's raining now."

So far, I think we're doing awesome.

But in any of these challenges,

one or two days, it's gonna rain.

And one of the two days, you're gonna get cold.

You're not gonna have anywhere to go in the middle of the night.

And it becomes a breaking point for most people.

So in order to prevent that,

the airplane wing will create a canopy.

It's gonna take some energy, but we ate the armadillo.

Everything is about survival.

If everything goes wrong from this moment on,

how would you make it?

[Na'im] Got it.

Well, that's gonna be a trek, so.

To me, the airplane wing presents some challenges

just in terms of expenditure of effort

and maybe the risk of one of us getting hurt

trying to retrieve it.

It's over 100 feet from camp, up on the hill.

But this is a team effort and, like,

not everyone approaches things from the same frame of mind.

And Bulent's made a good case for what we could do with the airplane wing.

So I'm all for it.

It's just taking a lot of energy.

For someone who's not been in the military,

But I have worked in corporate America

And one of my true skills

is just being able to get along

I don't wanna start cannibalizing my teammates.

We need a beach and a luau

because we need all the team working together cooperatively.

So, first thing I was gonna do is grab water.

I'd like to have some kind of like passive fishing going on.

[Candice] I'm feeling so much better.

But if I'm gonna make it to day 21,

I wanna keep pushing forward.

Which means see if we can get some type of food source ready for us.

-Tide's definitely heading out. -[Rachel] There she goes.

[Rachel] When it comes to fishing,

I feel like we can definitely use the tides

to our advantage.

So I have an idea for a fish trap

that I'd like to try today.

This is what I wanna use as a fish trap.

[Rachel] There is our pelican,

who has been cooking in there for the last four days.

-Not my favorite. Okay, what's the plan? -Okay, um...

[Candice] We're gonna try to use that giant tub from the boat.

And we kind of sink it.

We're gonna fill up a little water bottle with pelican guts.

And we can put some like really stinky bait,

like some of that rotting meat.

Then things will be able to get in it during high tide.

And then as the tide goes out, they'll be trapped.

-So, here's the bottle. -Okay.

Obviously, you have to tie this off.

-I do have this with me. -Oh, perfect.

[Candice] And then maybe a couple holes

to help get the scent out.

I'm really grateful that Candice is out here.

I am so impressed by her knowledge

and her grit

and the things that she is able and willing to do.

We want it somewhere that when the high tide comes in,

it's gonna be completely submerged.

We are putting a lot of calories and energy

to get this thing set,

so I hope that pays off.

If not, it'll be a little devastating.

But everything's trial and error.

[Patrick] I don't even know if it's worth doing that.

I think we're not gonna have any chance to get a friction fire

with how humid it is.

It's worse than yesterday.

It's just we need fire.

I feel like my skin is being ripped off by all these bugs.

Because we don't have fire,

we can't purify the water, we can't eat,

we can't stay warm. I'm chilly at night.

We can't even protect ourselves from bugs.

I have been attacked by every kind of bug

known in the insect kingdom.

There are so many bug bites all over all of us

that we have to have a fire.

[Andrew] So what's our next move?

So I'm done [bleep] around with friction fire.

I feel like this area is super resource dense.

But because we can't get fire,

we can't cook a snake, we can't cook a pig.

We need to move.

It's just time to leave.

If we hike out, that's gonna be a hard one.

I've done a challenge where, on day 11,

we moved locations and it was tough.

I'm trying not to pass out.

[inhales] Oh, I hate this feeling.

This is the worst feeling in the world.

I remember day 11, how weak we were, how tired we were

and how brutal it made that journey.

It just like destroyed me.

I'm tapping out.

[Andrew] When I chose to leave,

that is what really kills me.

And I cannot let that happen again.

So I'm nervous to move on.

And then there's like no map to help make this any easier.

It's terrifying. It makes me like...

[Heather] It's scary. But this is just not sustainable for us,

in my opinion.

[Andrew] I'm nervous to move on.

It's scary, but we need to find something with a beachfront,

so we can dry out our wood.

So we can look for actual debris that's washed up.

Because, right now, we've been sustaining off of

the debris that we found on day 1 when we first got here.

I agree. A fool of a survivalist

is gonna stay here and expect things to get better.

It won't.

There's giant risks, moving from one environment to the next out here.

But it's do or die. We have to move our camp.

So is it gonna have to be a different beach

than the one that we came from?

[Andrew] Maybe on the other side of the island,

somewhere where the fresh water meets the beach.

Because, yeah, we don't have a map. We don't have a compass.

We might get to a point where we get like a view.

It can help us get our bearings for where we are

and maybe find a different location.

Our best chance of rescue comes from the north.

[narrator] Currently 2 miles inland from where they were stranded...

the team plans to head north

to look for higher elevation

in hopes of spotting a better location,

while also moving closer to the northern tip of the island,

where shipping lanes present their only chance

of signaling a boat for rescue on day 21.

[Patrick] You guys willing to hike to get there?

[Heather] Whatever it takes.

[Patrick] Whatever it takes to get out of this hellhole.

I'm ready to try anything.

I actually have the different fish nets

that we'll be able to use for fishing stuff.

If we get near the water, I'm fishing.

So we are about to head out. We are leaving camp,

um, and we're gonna be moving locations.

So we're packing up everything that we need.

Patrick is making a spear with a glass tip.

So, right now, I'm taking my piece of glass

and I am inserting it into

this crack I made in my walking stick.

While I do that, I'm gonna take my slipknot

and I'm gonna cinch it tight

and wrap it.

Getting ready for today's walk.

I'm making some kind of makeshift shoes

by simply wrapping rope around my feet.

Clearly not perfect, but I think it can help a lot.

And we're gonna take a look around

and see anything last-minute that we may need for the journey.

Termite mound.

There's some metal tracks over here.

Looks like an old broke-down bridge.

I assumed this bridge was used by the military

when they were here decades ago.

I don't know how old this is

but it has been here for a long time.

It's not the sharpest, but I think it will...

certainly do in a pinch

since we have nothing but shells

we're trying to use as knives.

to make sure we're going north

and then get to a vantage point

where we can maybe scout out a better location.

But this is a 30, 40-pound pig.

And the only way we can catch that pig

is with a snare.

I wanna go up there to that airplane

so we can retrieve the steel cables

and hopefully make a snare for the pig.

As a pilot, I know we use a lot of cables on the airplane

to attach the controls to the control surfaces.

So I know they're durable

and I know they will make a good snare for the pig.

[Kerra] I definitely don't think all three of us should go up there.

But I definitely think it needs to be a pair.

Safety in numbers.

It's the best option for survival.

Anytime you lose your fire in one of these survival situations,

it causes a bit of panic

because fire truly is a lifeline.

We made it work before. We can make it work again.

We can get it going again.

[Rachel] To get the fire going the first time,

I had to connect the battery with the steel wool

to create some sparks.

But now, it's a lot more humid.

Come on, baby.

[sighs]

In fact, this battery is dying.

[Candice] No.

[Rachel] Ugh, it already went out.

It's fail after fail.

And it's 'cause our battery is drained

and it's scary.

[Rachel] As we start trying to connect the battery

with that steel wool to create some sparks,

we realize that we're in trouble.

It is not producing the sparks that we're used to seeing.

When I've done it before,

like one or two little ones and that's hard to convert.

Yeah, somebody needs to make sure this fire is going.

It needs to be going 24/7.

[Bulent] Be careful how you touch the airplane.

It's more than likely unstable.

But I have to be in it.

And if I get inside,

I think we'll be asking for trouble.

I have to get inside, get to the tail end

to get the cables out.

And I think it will just rumble down the hill.

And if it takes me or Kerra,

we're breaking at least a couple of bones.

It has to be brought down.

The only other way to get those cables out

is to drop it all the way down

and make it as safe as possible.

so we need to be really careful

about our strategy here.

-So... -And it is quite steep, too.

It's very steep. We'll push it over.

And then it should kind of fall naturally on its own.

We might need to give it a couple pushes down

so it can slide down this hill.

where I can be mentored by him.

[Kerra] We expended a ton of energy.

But you know what? It's gonna have a ton of resources in it.

And we're super-excited

because this is the only way we're gonna trap that pig.

This is the thing about airplanes.

Everything is secured 17 times.

But we will get it out.

We are stranded on an island.

Every resource counts.

That's I think about 1,200 pound cables.

So, that can be used. See if we can't make a trap.

That's twice as the length of me.

That means at least two good traps.

For survival, you have to look for things.

It's always gonna take some kind of an effort.

And that's the difference between the people who make things happen

and who just sit on their butts

and just moan and groan about things.

And that took everything out of me. I'm sweaty.

Just gonna make sure they can't get out.

Anytime I've gotten any river,

I've noticed little rock shrimp or river shrimp

coming up to my feet and checking me out.

And, so, having scavenged a bucket

and the remainder of that fan

that we got from the beach on day 1,

I'll try and trap them.

Let's Gilligan's Island this [bleep].

So, what we're hoping to do is just sort of

squeeze him in here,

put some coconut in the base of this

so he has to come in and get it.

Just make so he has a difficult time getting out at that point.

It looks like a heap of trash.

But it really is using everything that's in the environment

to your advantage.

We got the airplane down to get the cables out of it

for a snare to catch that pig.

I believe that they're about 1,200 to 1,500-pound cables.

So I know they're durable

and I know they will do the job.

Those cables might get us some bacon at the end of the night.

So this is the trail I've seen the pig before.

I believe he comes in and out of this.

So first thing is the anchor that's not gonna give.

[narrator] Securing one end of an airplane cable to a tree

and trying a slipknot onto the other

creates and adjustable noose

that will tighten around the pig's neck

as it moves for the bait.

[Bulent] So this particular place I set the snares

is downhill and it's quite steep.

I'm thinking if he hops to gain his footing,

he might miss one of the snares.

So I put two separately, one after another one.

If one doesn't catch it,

being stuck in that dense jungle.

And I wasn't actually sure that I was gonna make it.

This is our beach.

And, for me, in a survival scenario,

you like to find a replenishable source of food.

we have about 15-16 river ponds.

It just allows you to keep going, keep pushing

and allows you to be a survivalist.

But the main objective is the pig.

Okay, and then I'm gonna need a spindle.

-This? -And then we can trim that up

now that we've got the bayonet.

We can definitely trim it up. Round off the ends.

so it spins perfectly to make the friction that we want.

I feel like this is a really super-crucial time.

'Cause if we don't have fire tonight,

there are chitras, sand flies,

that will come out here in probably two hours

if we don't have fire.

I'm at that point right now I feel like my skin

is already coming off.
