Before my last challenge in Zambia,

I was vegetarian for seven years.

I don't know what to do. I'm not a hunter.

I don't kill things.

But survival out in the wilderness like this,

it's just not sustainable

if you're not gonna eat protein.

I've continued to work on a knife

from blades of the fan.

Using, uh, this nice corner edge

of the rock, I was able to file

in some saw grooves.

The saw grooves allow us to cut into things

uh, fairly easily.

Then, of course, they'll sharpen this edge here.

We just have to keep it sharp as we use it.

You know, it's sort of similar

so it's not a hardenable metal

which means that it won't keep that edge.

creates a circuit,

allowing electricity to flow through

the metal connector.

While some metals cause the batteries to overheat,

the right material will resist the flow of electricity and spark,

which can be used to start fire.

I realized we're not using our resources

Something like this reflection does warm up after a little bit,

but it's such a big, wide, space.

I mean, I think we just need to prop it up against something

so it has an angle on something.

With mirrors and all that, it's gotta be curved,

so all of that reflection is going in, like,

it goes into one point.

Whereas this mirror, it's flat.

[narrator] The curve of a water drop bends light inward,

creating a focused beam like a magnifying glass.

You're trying to concentrate it

like a laser onto the leaves.

That's why I wish we're near a beach.

with anything reflective,

and we're under multiple layers of foliage

It's one of the drawbacks about having left the beach.

We found our tool to be able to start a fire

but we don't have enough sun to be able to use the tool.

This is, like, the worst environment.

we're exchanging fresh water for sunlight.

is made by rubbing one stick in the notched groove of another,

to create an amber.

You know, you just start by peeling back the skin

and you break the bones.

And then it's easier and easier to work with the animal.

One of my favorite things when I harvest an animal and process it,

is the sound of the skin ripping away from the animal.

But I don't know why. It's just so satisfying.

And this is why.

Like, how can I process game and fish

if I've got acrylic nails on?

I feel like in life,

people are always underestimating me.

I don't even waste my time telling them.

And eventually they start to respect you and earn your trust.

The smoke from those is supposed to help deter bugs.

And all this wood is like, termite infested.

So I'm sure there has to be a couple of termite mounds.

it kind of pushes them up the bank towards us.

And they just have a feast.

So, I'm really hoping that

the termite mound will help give us some relief.

That's where it fell off of this tree that's above us.

You could see on this tree where it's knocking other pieces down.

I mean, it just came colliding through

and took out everything in its little wake,

There's like part of it still up there.

But it is a hard wood.

So I think it'll be a good one for us to bet against the bamboo.

I was just asking the universe and the jungle to please help us.

Give us a hard board.

And give us something to make fire with,

and then this thing came barreling down.

So, the universe is listening.

like, really hard wood that we can try a friction fire with.

But you know, if we don't have any fire at this point,

and we're drinking the water that's coming from upstream,

We need to create the intense fire

that we absolutely are... hungry for.

They're pretty dry. I've already got one off.

don't use new moist wood.

Friction fire is crazy hard.

We gotta follow all the rules that have been set long before us.

Wood has to be... One has to be hard, one has to be soft wood,
