NARRATOR: Mysterious ancient stones
shaped into perfect spheres.
WILLIAM HENRY: From Kansas to Kazakhstan, we find these stone spheres.
Some of them are massive,
and they bring with them this incredible mystery.
NARRATOR: Many show clear evidence of being man-made.
HUGH NEWMAN: Some have carvings on, like spirals,
and they look like they're created in a machine.
NARRATOR: And some of them completely defy explanation.
The sphere was made of elements that shouldn't
be there naturally.
NARRATOR: Why is it that these strange artifacts
are found in all corners of the globe?
And might there be an otherworldly explanation?
GIORGIO TSOUKALOS: Is it possible that there is a connection between
those spheres and the extraterrestrials
who visited us thousands of years ago?
NARRATOR: There is a doorway in the universe.
Beyond it is the promise of truth.
It demands we question everything
we have ever been taught.
The evidence is all around us.
The future is right before our eyes.
We are not alone.
We have never been alone.
Across the ancient world are mysterious monolithic monuments
carved of solid stone,
like the obelisks of ancient Egypt,
the Carnac alignments in Northern France,
and the Moai statues of Easter Island.
What purpose they served
has been the subject of much speculation.
But perhaps the most mystifying monoliths of all
are those that are in the shape of perfect spheres.
Stone spheres are found all around the world,
on every continent except maybe Antarctica.
But it's important to note that geologists are still really
very much in debate about how geological spheres form.
ED BARNHART: Some of them are taller than a man.
And many of them, they're so perfectly shaped,
they must have been shaped by the hands of man.
HENRY: From Kansas to Kazakhstan, we find these stone spheres.
Some of them are massive, and the key thing that links
all of them is this incredible mystery about
how were they created, why were they created?
And ultimately, what is their purpose?
NARRATOR: While ancient stone spheres have been found
that are of enormous proportions,
they exist in a vast range of sizes,
and geologists remain divided
about just how they were formed.
Some are clearly natural formations,
but experts agree that many spheres show evidence
of having been artificially shaped.
The question is, what purpose did they serve?
I think that one of the reasons they might
have been constructing these spheres is
to mimic what they see in nature.
DOMINIC STEAVU: There's a geometrical perfection that comes with the sphere.
It might be, perhaps, a connection to planets.
Sun, the Moon, the stars. All of these are spherical.
And if you look deeper, at the microscopic level,
at the atomic level, you have the same patterns
of spheres as very important building blocks.
So, this fascination with spheres
might be a reflection of this.
NARRATOR: What could explain why ancient people
all over the world fashioned spheres out of stone?
Perhaps further clues can be found by examining a discovery
made deep in the jungles of Central America
that defies explanation.
Southwest Costa Rica, 1939.
Workers with the United Fruit Company
begin clearing the rainforest near the Diquis Delta
for a new banana plantation.
While making their way through the dense vegetation,
the workmen find dozens of giant stone spheres.
They started to find these massive stone spheres
that they had no clue why they were there.
The instruction for them was, if you find anything, just move it.
And they just started to move them.
But they just kept appearing.
NARRATOR: In 1943, the archeological journal American Antiquity
published photos of the mysterious spheres,
which caught the attention
of American archaeologist Dr. Samuel Lothrop.
Five years later, Dr. Lothrop led an excavation of the area
and discovered hundreds of stone spheres.
They range in size from just a few inches
to more than six feet in diameter,
and weigh up to 15 tons.
Archeologists soon discovered stone spheres
throughout the Diquis Delta, and on the nearby Isla del Caño.
Many were found with artifacts from
the ancient Indigenous Diquis culture,
and are believed to be at least a thousand years old.
About 300 have been discovered so far.
Some of them are fairly small, like the size of footballs.
Others are huge,
between eight and nine feet tall and wide.
Some have carvings on, like spirals...
...and what looks like boats or ships.
They look like they're created in a machine.
NARRATOR: Researchers believe the stone that the spheres are carved from
is not local to the Diquis Delta,
but was transported from a quarry
that was located more than 50 miles away.
CARRANZA: The quarries of this material
are allegedly found at least
a few dozen kilometers from the site
where the spheres are located.
So that brings us questions of transportation.
Walking around the rainforest is not an easy task.
You have creeks, you have mountains, you have hills,
you have branches, you have tree roots.
So how were they moved?
NARRATOR: Just as puzzling as how the massive objects were moved
is how they were made.
Archeologists believe that the Diquis civilization
carved the spheres with simple stone tools.
But some researchers argue that creating
such a precise shape would be difficult to achieve,
even with today's technology.
WHITEHILL: It's important to note that these are,
in some reports, granitic, which are very,
very hard rocks to shape, to form, to move,
and to quarry in any capacity.
If we wanted to make these same spheres,
we would need something harder than granite.
And there are very few substances that are harder.
JIM VIEIRA: What's noteworthy is some of them are
almost perfectly spherical.
And that's a very tall task
to create that with the tools of the time.
As a stonemason, I would use diamond saws,
I would use polishing items.
But when you look at Indigenous people
that were purported to have made them,
did they have those machines, did they have that equipment,
did they have that technology?
NARRATOR: How could a culture that only had access
to stone chisels and rudimentary tools have carved
and transported such enormous stone spheres?
And what could have been their reason for doing so?
CARRANZA: Since the United Fruit Company
started moving the spheres,
we do not know the original location of most of them.
You start to wonder, what if we could go back in time
and see the exact location of all the spheres?
What would they show? Would they show a pattern?
Would they show a constellation map?
Would they be like the Nazca lines?
Like a pattern that you could only see from above?
NARRATOR: Although documentation to explain the spheres
does not exist, according to local legend,
they were created by the gods.
HENRY: One very interesting explanation for the Costa Rica spheres is
that they were created by Tara, the god of thunder,
who used some sort of a blowpipe to shoot these spheres
out of the pipe in order to push back hurricanes.
Ancient astronaut theory says that within legends like this,
there's often a kernel of truth.
And so you have to wonder,
is this a calling card
from some extraterrestrial entity,
a sky god, Tara, with some sort of message?
TSOUKALOS: To me, the ancient legend of the god of thunder illustrates
an example of misunderstood technology.
Clearly those spheres themselves never descended from the sky.
But maybe our ancestors saw
the appearance of a spherical craft by the extraterrestrials
who visited us thousands of years ago.
NARRATOR: Was the creation of the mysterious stone spheres
found in Costa Rica inspired by an extraterrestrial event,
as ancient astronaut theorists propose?
And if so, just what, exactly, do they represent?
Perhaps further clues can be found by examining
the largest stone spheres ever discovered.
NARRATOR: Zavidovici, Bosnia, 1999.
Archaeologist Dr. Sam Osmanagich and a small team of researchers
are hiking along the Bosna River
when they come upon an astonishing sight.
In the midst of the dense forest are massive boulders
that do not appear to be part of the natural landscape.
We discovered six of them intact,
perfectly preserved and perfectly spherical.
NARRATOR: To Dr. Osmanagich, the near-perfect shape
of the objects is compelling.
And he begins to comb the region in search
of other stone spheres.
OSMANAGICH: We have been researching
the stone spheres in Bosnia for 25 years,
and we have discovered 20 different locations.
The stone spheres in Bosnia come
in four different materials.
Granite, volcanic stone,
sandstone and limestone.
And different sizes, also.
In most cases,
they are over one ton.
NARRATOR: After his initial discovery of the stone spheres,
Dr. Osmanagich expanded his search.
And in 2016, he spotted
the most enormous stone sphere
he had ever seen hidden in the forest floor.
OSMANAGICH: We could see that the small part of the sphere
was sticking out.
We started clearing it,
realizing that it was huge.
Monumental in size.
Once we cleared almost all of it,
we've done the measurements.
It is more than three meters in diameter.
The specific weight: 37 tons.
So, this was the largest stone sphere discovery
in the world.
NARRATOR: How the Bosnian stone spheres were created
remains a mystery.
Some geologists suggest
they were shaped through erosion.
But others believe the spheres are simply too perfect
to have been formed naturally.
There is a process called "spherical"
or "spheroidal" weathering
that is very, very common.
We see them on the landscape in Arizona,
everywhere, called hoodoos.
You can see them out in Alabama Hills,
out in Owens Valley.
There's a lot of examples of this sort of sphere weathering.
But rarely are they perfect spheres.
And so it could be that some of these stones started out
mostly spheroidal, and then were worked
into a...
more perfect sphere.
The one in particular that I'm thinking of,
Bosnia, that's been,
um, in the headlines lately
has evidence of heat treating
to help facilitate polishing.
McGOWAN: These are not just round stones.
They are 96% perfect
in their spherical form.
That's not something that's created by the Earth.
NARRATOR: The near-perfect measurements of the stone spheres
convinced Dr. Osmanagich
that they were carved by artificial means.
And in 2016, he sparked controversy
when he announced that he believed
they originated with some unknown civilization.
OSMANAGICH: Who made them?
We don't have precise answer, but we know
that they were made by ancient builders.
Why?
Granite never comes
in spherical shape in nature.
NARRATOR: If the stone spheres are not naturally formed,
as Dr. Osmanagich suggests,
when were they made?
Many of the spheres
are impossible to scientifically date,
but based on the layers of soil
where the largest stone sphere was discovered,
Dr. Osmanagich believes it is up to 100,000 years old.
We don't have very specific time,
but what we do know, extremely old.
How do we know that?
The Bosnian stones sphere, the biggest one,
is discovered below the tree--
50 years--
dark soil-- 100 years--
light soil-- couple of hundred years.
We have light clay.
Almost 1,000 years.
We have dark clay, we have gray clay.
Tens of thousands of years.
And, finally, we have sandstone plate.
100,000-plus years.
NARRATOR: Is it possible that the stone spheres in Bosnia
were created by some unknown culture
tens of thousands of years ago?
And if so, how?
OSMANAGICH: According to the mainstream archeologists,
until a couple of thousands of years back,
the only tools were copper tools.
Copper is soft material.
You cannot use copper tools
to shape granite stones.
Of course this is us, 21st-century civilization.
What did they use?
NARRATOR: To try and understand how these artifacts were shaped,
Dr. Osmanagich had several samples taken from the spheres
analyzed in a lab
at the University of Belgrade in Serbia.
We realized that there is a difference
between their physical and chemical properties
and natural stone materials.
McGOWAN: There is a chemical component
that was found within the spheres.
And this chemical has not been able to be identified.
NARRATOR: If the giant stone spheres in Bosnia
were created by an ancient civilization,
what purpose did they serve?
The precise engineering of the monoliths,
and the fact that many are made of granite,
has convinced Dr. Osmanagich
that the stone spheres' true purpose was to transmit
Earth energy that occurs in the region.
It seems that they had multi-layer purpose.
According to the new science, bio-geometry,
three most powerful geometrical shapes
when it comes to the energy, are:
four-sided pyramid,
conical shape,
and the third one is the sphere.
Those three geometrical shapes
amplify the energies.
Most of the stone balls
have quartz crystal.
Quartz crystal has the ability
to amplify the energy.
McGOWAN: Dr. Semir Osmanagich talks about
the use of these spheres as, potentially,
small power supplies.
And this makes sense when you look at them
in context with the rest of Bosnia.
When you're sitting in this creek bed,
surrounded by these spheres, it's hard to describe,
but it does feel powerful.
It feels like it is generating energy.
NARRATOR: Did the giant stone spheres in Bosnia
once serve a technological function?
And if so, might other stone spheres
have a similar purpose?
Perhaps answers can be found by examining
hundreds of stone spheres in Mexico
that were hidden for centuries.
NARRATOR: Teotihuacan, Mexico.
This ancient pyramid site was once home
to a mysterious civilization
dating back to the first century AD.
A time long before the Aztec arrived in this region.
Since the early 1990s,
archaeologists have been exploring
the dozens of subterranean rooms, tunnels, and pathways
that lie below this eight-square-mile complex.
They've been doing a lot of excavations to understand
the nature and the relationship of the different pyramids.
And they're exploring underneath
the Temple of the Feathered Serpent.
And so they've made some really nice maps
of the pathways and such that are underneath the temple
and exposed caverns in areas that they didn't know existed.
NARRATOR: In May of 2013,
researchers working beneath the Temple of the Feathered Serpent
employed a small robot
called Tlaloc II-TC
to explore the recently uncovered area.
Inside one chamber,
archeologists made a curious discovery.
They found more than 100 gold-colored metallic spheres.
COLLINS: These tiny balls
are probably anything between
an inch to about five inches in diameter.
And what we can say is that
when they were actually put in place,
uh, probably about 2,000 years ago,
you would've had this incredible
shining gallery of lights
as you went down it.
WHITEHILL: They appear gold, but when you look at them
under chemical inspection,
it appears that that gold color is the mineral pyrite.
The Mexican archeologists are completely perplexed.
They haven't seen anything like this before.
They haven't seen anything like this
in their explorations of the other temples.
So there's lots of questions to be answered still.
NARRATOR: Archeologists retrieved several spheres
from the chamber, and when they analyzed them,
they were amazed by what they found.
BARNHART: The sparkly spheres that were found
in Teotihuacan really are an enigma.
As far as how they were made,
men definitely made them.
We have looked at those spheres.
And they are clay.
They are, like, sunbaked clay
that was then rolled in pyrite dust.
That's why they have that kind of yellow color.
Why they did it... I don't know.
HENRY: Nobody knows the purpose of them,
why they were made, or even who made them,
but the fact that they're there
tells us they are of utmost importance
to what went on at the temple.
NARRATOR: The golden spheres found
under the Temple of the Feathered Serpent
are a mystery to archaeologists,
but some believe they may be representations
of celestial bodies observed in the night sky.
But ancient astronaut theorists suggest the mysterious spheres
could have served a more profound purpose,
and point to another discovery made in 1906.
COLLINS: At Teotihuacan,
huge mica sheets have been found
beneath a layer of stone flooring
that were 90 feet square,
and they were placed directly on top of each other,
and yet, you couldn't see them.
So, they clearly weren't decorative or aesthetic,
they were clearly functional in their use.
So what were they doing there?
TSOUKALOS: We use mica today
in spacefaring technology.
It's a heat shield
for high, very, very high temperatures.
What is it doing at Teotihuacan?
What's also fascinating is that, throughout Teotihuacan,
you see burn marks on the walls.
So, at some point, Teotihuacan
underwent a gigantic fire.
Or was it something else?
Was it some type of a blast?
Was it some type of an exhaust?
NARRATOR: Curiously,
mica wasn't the only unusual substance
found within the ancient structure.
NEWMAN: They actually found mercury
under some of the pyramids as well.
So what does this all mean?
Well, mercury is used
in different electrical components,
and it conducts electricity.
So, can we suggest that they were
using this for some advanced technological purpose?
DAVID CHILDRESS: Mercury itself is-is very special.
It's a metal, it's a liquid, it's an electrical conductor.
Mercury can be used for many, many devices,
all of which are high-tech.
So you have to wonder, what is going on here at Teotihuacan?
Do these small balls and the mica
and the mercury and other facets of the pyramid,
are they all working together
to create some kind of electrical device
that's doing something?
That would seem to be the case.
NARRATOR: Does the discovery at Teotihuacan
of both mica and mercury,
two substances with high-tech applications,
indicate that an advanced technology
once existed in this ancient Mesoamerican city?
One that involved the mysterious spheres
found under the Temple of the Feathered Serpent?
We've often suggested that ancient structures
may have been used as some type
of energy capacitor.
An aeronautics engineer has suggested
that the Great Pyramid of Egypt, or the whole Giza complex,
may have been some type of a giant power plant.
Well, what if Egypt is not the only place
where they had something like this?
NARRATOR: Are the small golden spheres discovered at Teotihuacan
evidence of an extraterrestrial presence
on Earth centuries ago?
Ancient astronaut theorists say yes,
and suggest further clues can be found
by examining mysterious spheres that are not from this planet.
NARRATOR: Cambridge, Massachusetts, 2019.
Harvard astrophysicist Dr. Avi Loeb
learns of a meteorite that exploded
over the Pacific Ocean five years earlier.
AVI LOEB: I came across a meteor catalog
that the government compiled
using its missile warning system.
The meteor, uh, burned up
about 100 miles off the coast of Papua New Guinea,
and it released a few percent of the energy
of the Hiroshima bomb when it exploded.
From that, we inferred
it was about half a meter in size when it exploded.
NARRATOR: What intrigued Dr. Loeb the most
wasn't the object's size but where it came from.
LOEB: The meteor was actually moving
at 60 kilometers per second, clearly unbound to the Sun.
It must have originated from outside the solar system.
NARRATOR: This revelation is the first time
astronomers have identified an interstellar object
that entered the Earth's atmosphere.
Excited by the discovery,
Dr. Loeb closely examined the data
captured by the military satellites,
and he noticed something extraordinary.
LOEB: The government released data
of the explosion and from that, we inferred that the object
has material strength that is very unusual.
It's made of some alloy that is much tougher
than iron meteorites.
So, not only was this object the first interstellar meteor
but it was also tougher than all other meteors
detected by the government in that catalog.
And that raises the possibility
that it may have been a spacecraft.
NARRATOR: Is it possible
that an extraterrestrial spacecraft
crashed into the Pacific Ocean?
To find out, Dr. Loeb and a team of scientists
set out in June 2023
to attempt to retrieve any debris of the event.
COLLINS: Avi Loeb initiated this expedition
off the coast of Papua New Guinea
to try and retrieve the fragments of this meteor,
which was now known under the name IM1.
And this expedition was incredibly successful.
What they managed to do, using a magnetic sledge,
was to retrieve around 700 very tiny spherules.
NEWMAN: The samples were sent
to Harvard College Observatory for further study,
because no one knows, really, where they came from
and what they're made of.
NARRATOR: Remarkably,
the material recovered by the magnetic sled,
containing microscopic metal spherules,
was unlike anything the scientists had ever seen.
COLLINS: Probably about 50 to 60 so far
have been properly studied.
And these show elements that could not have been
from the solar system itself, or not primarily.
They must have come in from another star system.
NARRATOR: To Dr. Loeb, the discovery is evidence
that he has found remnants of the interstellar meteorite.
But the most remarkable find was still to come.
Further scientific testing of the mysterious objects
revealed a composition that led Dr. Loeb to believe
they could be fragments of extraterrestrial technology.
The spheres were found to contain
extremely high levels of beryllium,
lanthanum and uranium,
making a never-before-seen compound known as "BeLaU."
WHITEHILL: That BeLaU composition does not exist
in any known mineral or rock that we know of.
And so this does speak to his hypothesis
that they're manufactured extraterrestrially.
TSOUKALOS: Dr. Avi Loeb proposes
that these spherules may be part of some type of E.T. technology.
What exactly he means by that, I don't know.
Could that really be a remnant
of a far, far distant extraterrestrial civilization?
NARRATOR: Word of Dr. Loeb's discovery made headlines across the globe
and stirred up controversy among his peers.
Within academia, there is still resistance
to discussing this subject openly.
However, if we do not invest in getting better data,
we will never be able to figure out the nature of these objects.
Unless you search, you will never find this evidence.
NARRATOR: Is it possible that the mysterious alloy
is a material created by extraterrestrial beings?
Dr. Loeb's research is ongoing.
But if true, the spheres he discovered
will upend humanity's place in the universe.
LOEB: We will publish our results
in peer-reviewed journals
and make them available for anyone to see.
If we end up concluding that it was artificial in origin,
perhaps a spacecraft,
that would be the first time that we found evidence
for an object that originated from another civilization.
NARRATOR: Avi Loeb's suggestion
that the spheres may have come
from an extraterrestrial spacecraft
has been hotly debated in the scientific community...
-Got filaments here. -NARRATOR: ...but incredibly,
another scientist has also recovered tiny metal spheres
that he is convinced are of alien origin.
NARRATOR: The University of Sheffield, England, 2015.
SCIENTIST: Andre, on you. Countdown, please.
NARRATOR: Astrobiologist Dr. Milton Wainwright
-and his research team... -Three, two, one.
NARRATOR: ...release scientific balloons
25 miles up into the sky.
Once a balloon reaches its target altitude,
a capture mechanism will collect samples of material
within the Earth's stratosphere.
After the sampling is complete, the balloon bursts,
and the capture mechanism descends back to Earth
under the safety of a parachute.
COLLINS: In 2015, Dr. Milton Wainwright,
sent one of these balloons up, and it was hit
at an incredible rate, uh, by something
that left behind a small crater.
And when they actually dug into this crater
to see what it was, it was a tiny sphere.
And when they actually examined what the sphere was made of,
it was found to be of titanium and vanadium.
And these are elements
that shouldn't be there naturally
out in the lower atmosphere.
There's no Earth material associated with them.
And they're too large to be carried from Earth
to these altitudes.
They must be incoming from space.
Where are they coming from? We just don't know.
NARRATOR: Upon closer examination,
Dr. Wainwright noticed the small sphere
contained something completely unexpected.
COLLINS: This tiny sphere, when they studied it
under electron microscope,
saw that it was actually a shell
that had now broken,
and coming out of it
was this strange ooze that they felt
was biological in nature.
WAINWRIGHT: The characteristics of these organisms is very interesting.
They're made of carbon and oxygen,
so we know they're life-forms.
They don't contain silicon, so they're not bits of cosmic dust.
They're very unusual.
When I see the shapes of these things, I'm amazed,
'cause I've never seen anything like them on Earth.
There's no textbook version of the pictures we've been seeing.
NARRATOR: Although it is still unknown
just where these spheres come from,
Dr. Wainwright believes they are being used
to introduce new life-forms on Earth.
This concept is known as panspermia.
The question, how life ever got here,
to astronomers and to astrobiologists,
is still a gigantic question mark
and a huge debate
because, at some point, our planet
was just a rock with rocks and water. That's it.
And so, how did it all begin?
And so, there's two ways. One is panspermia.
Panspermia suggests that life was carried
on the backs of comets throughout the universe.
So, it's a natural seeding of the planets.
The other one is directed panspermia,
and direct panspermia dictates
that an intelligent extraterrestrial civilization
that's much, much older than ours
sent probes out to seed the planet
with their own DNA.
Directed panspermia is an idea first suggested
by the famous DNA pioneer Francis Crick.
And, basically, the idea is that maybe
aliens sent life to Earth.
COLLINS: This is the idea that an alien civilization
would send out these seeds
into different parts of the galaxy
that would come into the atmospheres of planets
and eventually reach the surface.
And this biological ooze would then create
the beginnings of life itself.
CHILDRESS: With Dr. Wainwright's small metal sphere,
you have to wonder, is this protein ooze that's inside it
something to seed the planet with life?
And to me, that's a fascinating idea.
And if this is the case, then
perhaps the extraterrestrials
are using these metallic spheres,
which are full of some protein liquid
that will jump-start life on the planet.
NARRATOR: Could the tiny metal spheres found in our atmosphere
really be designed to seed life on Earth?
For Dr. Wainwright, the distinct shape
of the microscopic objects presents a compelling argument.
WAINWRIGHT: The reason I'm suggesting
it might be artificial engineering,
it's pretty obvious that, if you're looking for a vehicle
of directed panspermia, this is what you would pick.
Instead of sending one rocket, you know, to California
or to Sheffield, what you want to do
is to completely cover the globe in minute balls of life.
And this would absolutely fit the bill.
HENRY: To Dr. Wainwright, this was evidence of cosmic seeding.
He believed that the spheres were, in fact, a technology--
a seed, if you will-- that were sent deliberately
to Earth by some unknown advanced civilization.
This would certainly be one way
of accelerating evolution on Earth.
NARRATOR: Dr. Wainwright awaits additional funding
to continue his experiments,
and as far as ancient astronaut theorists are concerned,
the questions raised by his research
merit further examination.
TSOUKALOS: This oozing liquid that's inside these spherules
is something that has never been discovered elsewhere.
So what is it?
Could it be that this is a part
of a directed panspermia project
that was used by extraterrestrials,
and we just happen to have found the evidence for it?
I think what Dr. Wainwright discovered
is crucial in figuring out
the larger picture that our origins
is not down here on Earth, but out there.
NARRATOR: Do the microscopic spheres found in the upper atmosphere
provide proof that extraterrestrials
seeded life on Earth?
As far as ancient astronaut theorists are concerned,
it's an intriguing possibility.
And they suggest further evidence of a connection
between the planet's mysterious spheres
and alien visitation can be found by examining
hundreds of stone orbs discovered in Scotland
that were used to communicate with the gods.
NARRATOR: The Orkney Islands, Scotland.
In the 19th century,
archeologists excavating a neolithic settlement here
discovered five small stone spheres.
Over the years, more than 500
have been unearthed throughout the region.
The petrospheres in Scotland are very, very interesting.
They appear to be of neolithic origin.
So, we're going back to 12,000 BC to about 4500 BC.
They're small, almost the size of ball bearings or something.
VIEIRA: They have geometric forms and spirals,
and it is obvious that they were produced by humans.
The question is, why were they produced
and what do all the symbols mean?
NARRATOR: While mainstream archaeologists
have yet to identify the purpose of these stones,
ancient astronaut theorists believe
the answer can be found in local legends,
which claim they were used to communicate
with otherworldly beings.
HENRY: Legend says that they could be used as oracle stones,
that a person would ask a question,
throw the stone on the ground,
and they would get some sort of an answer.
And that makes me wonder if it's possible that these
smaller handheld stones are somehow connected
to the larger stone spheres,
and they're perhaps amplifiers or transmitters
of Earth's energy, and that they all have
some sort of an energetic function.
NARRATOR: Could it be that the ancient stone spheres
found around the world were intended to amplify
the energy of the Earth for a purpose we have yet to discover?
Or is our fascination with spheres simply inspired
by the connection we feel to the spherical bodies
we see in the heavens?
Perhaps the explanation is more profound
than we can even imagine.
As a stonemason, I'm very interested
in this mystery of the stone spheres.
I think it's, uh, a very enigmatic mystery.
It's a mixture of science, geology,
actual human manufacture, and legends of gods.
And I feel that more and more objects like this
may emerge because I think people are keen
on looking at our past like never before.
In my experience, stone speaks to humans.
Stone has a story to tell.
Stone is placed in specific ways with specific properties
to emit some message,
communication devices, maybe...
It-it's a very interesting medium.
And I really believe there is an understanding here
of something larger that the stone is trying to convey to us.
Our fascination with stone spheres,
whether they be tiny,
handheld, or massive,
is something that is associated
with connections with otherworldly environments,
that we see spheres
as points of communication with the other world.
TSOUKALOS: Clearly, the sphere has played a crucial part
in all of our ancient cultures.
And you have to ask yourself, why?
Could there be more behind it?
HENRY: What was the purpose of creating the spheres?
Is it indeed communication?
Are they information storage devices?
A commemoration of the original seeding of the planet?
We still don't know.
And that just adds to the mystery.
NARRATOR: Do the stone spheres found throughout the globe
serve as testament to extraterrestrial visitation
in the distant past?
Are they commemorating the origins of life on Earth?
Some profound technology witnessed by our ancestors?
Or could they even have served
a technological function themselves
that we might one day reactivate?
Perhaps the mystery of the stone spheres
will only be solved once we are reunited
with our alien ancestors.
