and we see a light pop up.

It wasn't like discovering something

and, like, "Oh, wow, we're getting to see this."

It was like, "Oh, no, what are we seeing?"

[West] I looked off to the southwest

and I could see this bright white light.

I was blown away.

I wanna get to the bottom of it.

When I went outside, I immediately saw

this tubular craft.

Whatever it was, it seemed like

it was intelligently controlled,

as if it knew it might be watched.

You are one of the trailblazers

of what is one of the number one UFO hot spots

of the 21st century.

-Yeah. -[Mitch] That's remarkable.

Well, first and foremost,

we wanna ask you to tell us your story,

where you were, when it was, and what happened.

[Greg] My name is Greg Ayers,

and I think that I saw a UFO at Area 51.

This was in the late spring of 1992.

I was living in San Francisco at the time,

and my ex was very deep into conspiracy theories.

Area 51 had been getting some unwanted attention.

The US Government's infamous Area 51 in the Nevada desert

has been cloaked in conspiracy theories for years,

and recently, President Clinton reclassified

the security status for this top secret clandestine compound.

[reporter 2] The spokesperson for the US Department of Energy,

who holds jurisdiction over the Nevada test site, had no comment on UFOs.

[reporter 3] Las Vegas Police report

quite a few calls just last night

from people who saw strange lights in the skies northwest of the city.

It's top secret military base called Area 51.

Witnesses say the object was like a pyramid

or a V-shaped wedge with pulsating yellow lights.

An ex-employee from Area 51, this guy named Bob Lazar,

started giving interviews

with a local Las Vegas news station.

He was purporting that he was hired

to reverse engineer UFO technology

that the US Government had acquired

through actual alien encounters.

Real obvious what was in the hangar.

You could see about three quarters of the edge of the craft.

It was a typical flying saucer.

Human hands did not put this together.

[reporter 1] Lazar brought a group of friends to the edge of the facility,

where they videotaped the so-called UFO

on what Lazar says was a test flight.

[man 1] Man, it is really bright. Look at it. Look at it.

I believe beyond any shadow of a doubt

uh, that, "Yes, these are alien spacecraft."

[Greg] Just the fact that he went on air

and revealed these things

really stirred up a lot of interest.

And so my ex decided

that we were going to make a trip to Area 51.

My ex had some directions that he had gotten

and we were going to look for this black mailbox

at the end of a entrance way

into the military compound of Area 51.

Miraculously, we find this black mailbox at the end of this entryway.

We brought our video cameras

because we were determined

to catch some kind of evidence.

We've been waiting a couple of hours and we see a light pop up.

Pops up over the ridge.

It is a yellowish orange glowing light.

I was recording,

then the light just sort of hovered there.

[bleep]

Then that light is joined by some more lights.

Oh, my God. Holy [bleep]!

When I zoom in on my camera, you've got to see it.

Then they started tracing the top of the mountain ridge,

but at an incredible speed,

and then disappeared.

Definitely way faster than you see an airplane fly,

and it was not a helicopter.

It was something that we couldn't identify.

I'm totally getting footage of this.

The whole thing just seemed kind of creepy.

Oh, my God.

It wasn't like discovering something

and, like, "Oh, wow, we're getting to see this."

It was like, "Oh, no, what are we seeing?"

I got scared, emotionally overwhelmed,

and I put the video camera down on the ground.

Then everything just went dark.

The next morning, I was so nervous about it

and it really seemed like we were doing something very dangerous.

Felt like we were violating the law.

Well, I know we were... [chuckling] ...violating the law,

and so I took the tape

and I brought it back to my house,

where it just sat...

for quite a long time.

You've brought to the table your own experience, account.

You have provided really extraordinary evidence.

One of the things that is so exciting

is that you have extremely rare vintage video evidence

going back to the VHS era of 1992,

pre X-Files, pre 21st century contemporary UFO studies.

-What you captured... -[Greg] Mm-hmm.

...represents some of the first civilian footage

that has ever been taken,

ever been made publicly available for the first time,

thanks to your efforts,

and that's profoundly exciting in and of itself.

[narrator] Gregory submitted a 47-second-long video

that he recorded in 1992 inside the Area 51 base.

This is the first time he has ever shared

the images from that night.

-My question to you is... -Mm-hmm.

...why did you keep it private until now?

[Mitch] Based on all of this

and the unanswered questions that exist,

I would have to say...

[West] It was probably up in the sky

for a good two or three seconds

before I got my camera out and started to record.

This is happening.

Back then,

I maybe didn't share it so much

because it sounded crazy...

-Mm-hmm. -...and this just seemed to be

the right time to tell this story.

What do you hope to gain from this exchange?

This happened early in '92.

There was no Internet.

Doing research was literally us getting in the car and driving there,

and it would be amazing to get some insights.

Chrissy has teamed with researchers

to study the video evidence...

-Amazing. -...that you provided,

and she will be stepping up with some insights.

We'll do our very best to provide you with what we can.

Some answers.

[narrator] Chrissy works with a team of researchers and analysts

who review UFO databases,

air traffic records, and satellite data.

They also conduct state-of-the-art photo and video examination.

The challenge was around date, time and location.

We didn't really have that. We had location.

-We have a year. -There's no time stamp on it.

[Chrissy] We don't have a time stamp on it unfortunately.

So, we're not able to crosscheck

the UFO databases or flight patterns.

There's no satellite information.

We just didn't have enough data to go on.

Hmm.

[Chrissy] One thing that we thought...

"Could it be a meteorite?"

So, this is stills from the video.

-[Greg] Yeah. -[Chrissy] This is yours.

[Chrissy] And this is a meteorite,

from 1992 in Peekskill, New York.

[Greg] Wow.

[narrator] A still taken from Greg's video,

reveals similarities to an image of a meteor

taken in Peekskill, New York, in October of 1992.

-[Greg] That pattern is incredibly similar. -[Chrissy] Right.

And that's what we thought was really intriguing.

Yeah.

We found out in our research,

in '92 within that region, we didn't see any impact

that would say that it was a meteorite.

-Okay. -And so then we thought that it could possibly be flares.

Because you are within a military area

-in a range,... -[Greg] Yeah.

...but it was hard for us to determine

time, date, location, exact date.

From the amount of information

that we could get back to that time,

within those regions

there was live artillery, bombing and potentially war games.

I don't have enough data

to be able to make a real concrete conclusion, unfortunately.

So I have to defer to Mitch.

When I'm looking at these cases,

I make a determination from an aggregate of details.

I'm going to take in

your account, your credibility,

Chrissy's analysis

and come to my conclusion.

First of all, there is your credibility as a witness,

which I think is very high.

The video was analyzed to be absolutely unpolluted, uncorrupted.

It's almost like you've brought us this wonderful time capsule

from the dawn of this present epic in UFO history.

Based on all of this,

and the unanswered questions that exist,

in the strictest of terms,

I would have to say,

you did witness and capture a UFO.

What you captured is unidentified.

It is definitely unidentified.

about two and a half years ago,

and we went as close as you can get

till you start to see threatening signs and...

who do not look like they're welcoming visitors.

No, and I would never recommend anyone to pass that line.

I was at Area 51 right when it was coming to people's attention.

It's cool to feel like I am a part of history.

is the world's central gathering spot

for UFO and alien experiencers.

We were constantly seeing them,

and we don't know what they are.

are only possible because of citizen seekers

Please tell us, uh, what transpired.

[West] My name is West Decker.

I'm from Fort Worth, Texas,

and I may be a UFO experiencer.

For most of my life, I have always been skeptical,

but I really got interested in the UFO phenomenon

when the big articles came out in The New York Times

and we started seeing videos from the Navy.

We know that in some cases,

these phenomena have impacted military training,

have then impacted military readiness.

[reporter] The committee also heard from former pilots,

who had witnessed Unidentified Flying Objects

they claim couldn't be flown by humans.

Could a human survived those G forces

with known technology today?

-[Mr. Graves] No. -[CDR. Fravor Ret.] No,

not for the acceleration rates that we observed.

Something clicked with me, and I really got interested

in the whole topic of the UFO phenomenon,

and I did research, read the books

and I became convinced

that there's something going on.

I also became convinced

that I have no idea what it is.

On January 7th, 2024, I had finished dinner,

and at that time my dog always wants to go out,

so I walked out with him.

My kind of habit in the evening,

is to just to scan the sky and just look for movement.

So I looked off to the southwest.

It was dusk and I could see this bright white light.

It was probably up in the sky

for a good two or three seconds

before I got my camera out and started to record.

Oh, my God, I'm actually seeing something.

This is happening.

[Chrissy] So, we cross-checked our flight databases.

It showed an aircraft in that area of the time

that was traveling at 20,000 feet,

but...

On January 7th, 2024,

I looked off to the southwest.

It was dusk and I could see this bright white light.

It was probably up in the sky

for a good two or three seconds

before I got my camera out and started to record.

Oh, my God, I'm actually seeing something.

This is happening.

I was blown away.

I mean, I... I... at that moment in time,

I didn't know what to think.

As it moved, it slowly grew,

and then it expanded out into this ring.

It slowed down and then... faded...

and then it disappeared.

There was this progression of thoughts

and emotions that I went through.

I immediately was in awe.

My next thought was, "What if it wasn't real?" [laughs]

"What if it was just something mundane"?

If I'm gonna try to get to the bottom of the sighting that I had,

I think we should be facts and evidence base.

We've got to be real careful because we could be missing

some important evidence

simply because we're more prone to a convenient answer.

To me, I don't want "probably."

I wanna get to the bottom of it.

West, what are you hoping for from our exchange today first?

I want to know what the truth is,

as best as we can figure it out.

-Well, West, we received your testimony... -Yep.

-...and your video evidence... -Mm-hmm.

...which Chrissy has reviewed...

a 67-second-long cell phone video

that he recorded on January 7th, 2024, for analysis.

So we look for a date, time and location,

photo and video evidence.

We cross-checked our flight databases.

It showed an aircraft in that area of the time

that was traveling at 20,000 feet,

but what you saw was unlike an aircraft.

[West] It wasn't a plane for sure.

It wasn't anything conventional that I'm used to seeing.

We also looked for mass sightings.

And we found a lot of social media coverage.

[woman] What is this in the sky?

[man] Oh, man, that's crazy.

[woman] This is bananas right now.

There was multiple UFO activity

reported in North Texas,

and there was a whole bunch of media coverage.

So a lot of people saw that.

Yeah, exactly.

And then we cross-checked rocket launch data.

So what we did notice

is that SpaceX launch occurred on January 7th

at 4:35 Central Standard Time.

[man at Space X] Go, Falcon. Go, go!

But it occurred an hour and a half before your sighting.

The time doesn't match up.

Yeah, exactly. That was my confusion, too.

The one thing, though, that was really interesting,

and we were a little bit boggled,

was that the aura glow that came off it,

and we're like, "What is that?"

From further analysis,

we did conclude

it's a sound barrier compression wave.

[narrator] When an object passes through the air,

it creates a series of pressure waves

similar to the waves created by a boat.

These waves travel at the speed of sound,

and as the speed increases, the waves are compressed,

which appears to be what was captured in West's video.

According to the data,

it's SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket booster

that was entering the atmosphere.

It was a second stage reentry of SpaceX Falcon 9.

This particular piece of evidence

didn't capture a UFO.

And I am completely okay with that.

I'm glad we found the answer.

And West, your credibility and reliability

as a witness is absolutely impeccable.

You've been completely transparent, ethical,

and when I first saw the video,

I was very excited because it's very alluringly shot.

This is a remarkable video.

The fact that it was something mundane

doesn't make it any less, uh, amazing to me.

I'm so grateful that you guys were able

-to get that next level of research, and... -[Chrissy] Yeah.

...and apply that kind of rigor

because I guessed that that glow

and that diffused ring and stuff

were maybe a fuel dump, but...

That doesn't take away from any of those other experiences.

Sure, and I appreciate that.

I am extraordinarily grateful

for all the work that you guys put into this,

-tracking the orbits like this... -Yeah.

...that was one of the things that I was missing in my own research.

That's just something that's outside of my reach,

so I'm really, uh, impressed,

and to me, it was more important to find out what I saw

than it was for me to find what I wanted to see.

Well, that is a man who believes in pure questioning.

One of the rarest of all traits.

This was the kind of help I was looking for.

Which was, you know, having people

who could find out the answers that I couldn't.

Mitch and Chrissy are so big in this field

that even though mine didn't turn out to be a UFO,

it was like an amazing experience.

We did a detail analysis on your video.

We know it's not been faked or altered in any way.

One thing, though...

Everything that we do is building a record,

and everybody's got different levels of evidence.

Yeah.

I was like, "Mom," like, "Come here,

you have to see what's outside,"

because it was just such a weird, translucent, whitish color.

Eventually, it just disappeared into nothing.

And I mean, I had no idea what it was.

I just don't have any data,

and there's no hard science for me to analyze,

to say that that is 100% real or accurate.

[Mitch] A lot of the experiencers

that comes through the door here at the Variety

are people with firsthand accounts.

They cannot always provide the hard evidence

that Chrissy and her team require for analysis.

July of 2022, I was, I think it was like 5:00 a.m.

[Mitch] For me, this doesn't necessarily mean

And so we all look up and there's a dot in the sky,

and then instantly there is a craft

in the yard, um, in front of us.

I turned around and there was a being at the foot of my bed

who was about three or four feet tall.

It had the big eyes, real spindly.

-Looked like a kid. -Mm-hmm.

Do they truly believe what they saw was real?

Um, but I guess the biggest question is like, "Why me?"

[Mitch] And are they a credible witness

with respect to what they're saying?

You've also, frankly, put your own reputations on the line.

You have friends, you have families, you have work relationships.

All of these factors help me determine

where their story falls on the scale of fact.

Even though there's no evidence, I believe in the story

that you are bringing to the table.

What's your understanding of the skinwalker? What is that?

[Chrissy] With a skinwalker, it can

One day it might be, some will say that they've seen a wolf

and then it can shape-shift into something else.

So walk us through the events.

[Ryan] My name is Ryan Burns.

On June 17th, 2012, 12:36,

I saw something that I could not understand, comprehend,

and still wonder to this day what I might have done.

I am a property manager.

One of the properties shares a fence line

with Skinwalker Ranch up in the northeastern part of Utah.

And there's a lot going on there.

That whole area has high strangeness appeal.

That's where I had one of the strangest events.

I was on the property with a friend

and he said, "Hey, you guys, come check this out."

When I went outside, I immediately saw,

for lack of a better word, this tubular craft.

It was directly over our heads,

somewhere along the lines of 2, 300 feet,

so close enough to get a look,

but far enough that we couldn't tell what it was.

I ran back inside, grabbed the camcorder.

When I zoomed in with the camcorder

is when we started to really get an idea of,

like, what this thing might be made of.

It looked like it was something very solid,

cylindrical and slightly moving up.

As I zoomed in with the camcorder,

there was no signs of propulsion.

It seemed to be rolling or undulating,

moving more in ways

that were not congruent with it

being reflective and metallic looking.

Whatever it was, it seemed like

it was intelligently controlled,

almost more biological,

as if it knew it might be watched.

You know, when the three of us were pointing and talking,

it just rose

until it was out of sight.

After it disappeared,

we checked all kinds of flight logs.

There seemed to be nothing that matched this description.

It falls into line with a lot of

strange descriptions in the area.

I honestly don't know what we saw that day,

but there was a lot that kinda pointed me

in the direction of something...

non-human.

What is it you hope to gain from our exchange today? What are you looking for?

Um, any thoughts, uh, theories.

What, you think, you know,

what... what boxes it checks, and which ones it doesn't.

Where it fits into the whole scheme of things.

I think the, uh, the more experiences

and opportunities we have to see things

that are somewhat anomalous in nature,

-and I think there's more to be gathered from it all. -[Mitch] Hmm.

We have received your accounts and your evidence.

[narrator] Ryan Burns submitted a 20-second long video

of an object flying over Skinwalker Ranch

in Utah, that he filmed in 2012.

Hopefully, Chrissy can shed some significant light

on these questions of yours.

All right, so let's just go through the collected material.

I have a video along with, then your own testimony.

Some research that we did, is we looked at

the historical analysis of the area

and past sightings,

we know that Skinwalker Ranch in the Uinta Basin

is filled with tons of UFO sightings,

high strangeness.

[narrator] Located in northeastern Utah,

Skinwalker Ranch has been known

for its UFO sightings for more than 50 years.

In 2008, the Defense Intelligence Agency created

the Advanced Aerospace Weapon System Application Program

and along with ranch owner Robert Bigelow,

they began researching UFOs

and other strange phenomena reported there.

The program ended in 2012,

and the results of the four-year study

led to the creation of the now declassified

Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program.

So, we looked into that and we did take it into consideration.

We also did a detailed analysis on your video.

We know it's not been faked or altered in any way.

And then we did check all UFO databases

for aircraft and unknown objects in the sky.

And we saw nothing.

One thing, though...

When I first saw the images and video,

I thought, "Ah, this is gonna be

a weather balloon, solar sail."

You know, something of that nature,

but I'm surprised as hell...

2024 is the year of disclosure.

I'm here in Roswell, New Mexico,

home of the 1947 UFO crash site,

which has become a mecca

for UFO experiencers, and seekers.

The key to finding answers lies within the people

who have experienced this phenomena firsthand.

I'm hoping to find that one true gem of evidence...

I'm experiencing chills over here.

...that stands out and rewrites history forever.

When I went outside, I immediately saw,

for lack of a better word,

this tubular craft.

It was directly over our heads

somewhere along the lines of 2, 300 feet.

I honestly don't know what we saw that day,

but there was a lot that kinda pointed me

in the direction of something non-human.

There wasn't any other UFO connections

or anything that was reported with any other databases.

Also, the movement was so slow

that it does eliminate any airplanes.

So, finally, we had two analysts look at this.

They thought that it could be...

a solar balloon.

That day, the temperatures were in the mid-'90s,

so it's a great condition for that.

[narrator] Solar balloons are used to study the weather

and for other airborne scientific investigations.

One thing, though, both analysts said

there wasn't any solar balloon launch data at that point in time,

so they couldn't prove that it was a solar balloon.

Definitely baffled.

[Chrissy] The experts said they're perplexed, too.

It's unidentified.

Well, um, I'm surprised as hell,

you know, because I have to be perfectly frank.

When I first saw the images and video,

I thought, "Ah, this is gonna be

a weather balloon solar sail."

You know something of that nature

but I'd have to say

based on the material, culture, locality,

your credibility as a witness,

the analysis from the experts,

you saw a UFO.

I mean, UFO in my mind is something unidentified.

It's quite common to talk to people

that experience this sort of thing,

but it's a lot harder to actually have analysts like that

who are experienced, to be able to actually

view video evidence and come away with that,

so I think it's really exciting.
