The Calculus Affair - Part 2

It all started one stormy night at Marlinspike Hall.

Professor Calculus was working on just another innocent experiment.

Or so we thought.

Blistering barnacles!

It seemed the Professor's strange experiment

had attracted some unwanted attention.

That sounded like a gunshot!

Professor, is everything all right?

No, I promise you, not a single drop.

Allow me, Professor.

Oh, a hole!

We'd better contact the police.

Hello, Tintin. We've come to warn you.

Bordurian agents are at large in these parts.

Oh, hello!

Are you going away?

I'm on my way to Geneva for a congress on nuclear physics.

With the Professor safely out of the country,

we had to find out who would want to shoot him and why.

Captain.

What have you got there?

A pack of cigarettes. Hotel Cornavin, Geneva.

That's the hotel Cuthbert always stays in.

The Professor's in danger.

We arrived in Geneva to warn Calculus, only to discover

he had gone to visit a Professor Topolino in Nyon.

I had a letter from Calculus

telling me about his work on ultrasound, the field I specialize in.

He asked if we could meet.

He seemed alarmed by the results of his research.

Boris, are you sure the timing device hasn't stopped?

Do you smoke, Professor?

This belong to my assistant, Boris.

He's gone home for a visit to Borduria.

Borduria? The Thompson's told us about the agents.

Your assistant must've contacted the Bordurian secret service

and told them about Calculus coming to visit.

The trouble is, what have they done to Calculus?

We survived the explosion

and had an unexpected visit at the hospital.

Professor Calculus! Where have you been?

Not at all. I simply missed my train.

Your discovery must be very important, Professor.

If the wrong people got hold of it,

there could be disastrous effects on world peace.

Right you are. I'd better be on my way.

Things to do. I'll be back to see you later.

Blistering barnacles! I'm glad to be...

out of there! The food was terrible!

Oh that reminds me! I wanted...

to pick up some postcards.

Okay, but don't be too long!

Yes, of course you can come along!

No! No!

Our plane leaves at noon!

Okay then. Wait there!

I'll be back soon.

Aah... Just two more hours and...

we'll be on our way home.

I can't wait for another nice

quiet walk in the countryside!

Why is that car just sitting there?

Let's see what's taking the Professor so long!

Thundering blistering bazookas!

Hmm! This cigarette! It's the same kind

the Bordurian agent smokes!

Professor!

He's gone!

Professor!

My umbrella! My umbrella!

What do we do now?

Find the Bordurian Embassy!

Look out! Here comes one!

Gotcha!

Blood thirsty devils!

Shh! Captain... there's the embassy!

Look!

Somebody's coming out of the embassy.

They got Calculus!

Operation rescue...!

Captain!

Take this! And that!

That will teach you to kidnap my friend!

They're putting him in a motorboat!

They're after us in a helicopter!

We got 'em!

Captain!

I nearly fell!

They're gonna pay for that!

Bombs away!

Earthworms! Slugs!

They're going ashore!

Tintin!

There they are!

Maniac! Road hog!

You crazy, man?!

Why you park in middle of road?

Please, this is an emergency!

Our friend has been kidnapped!

Get in! We catch them!

Thank you, sir!

-You in? -Let's go!

Blistering barnacles!

Up ahead!

Ah, bella!

Italian drivers... best in the world!

Thundering typhoons!

There!

Thank you, sir!

Empty!

There they are!

Don't worry, Professor! We'll save you!

Last call for flight 273 to Borduria.

Passengers board immediately.

Those fools!

They're going to Borduria!

Borduria 3218!

Colonel Sponsz' office. Yes, I'll tell him.

The plane has just left, Colonel.

You were right. Tintin and Haddock were on it.

Make sure the welcoming comittee...

is at the airport. -It's all arranged, sir.

Lieutenant!

Yes, Colonel?

They are not to leave Borduria alive!

What sort of place is this?

You're right, Captain! There are soldiers everywhere!

What's wrong, Snowy?

Oh, he forgot the Professor's umbrella!

Well, never mind...

We can get him another one when we get back.

Halt!

You are Tintin and Haddock?

Yes...?

Good morning, Mr Tintin!

I am Kromick. This is Klumsi.

We are assigned to protect you

on your visit to Borduria.

We will escort you to your hotel.

Please, come with us!

I think we should do as they say!

C'mon, Snowy!

C'mon! It's okay!

Good boy!

Look!

No door handles!

Welcome to Borduria!

Hello?

Tintin, it's me!

Hi, Captain.

What are we gonna do?

We gotta find a way to lose those goons!

Yes, I'll meet you outside your room.

I'm hungry too.

Huh?!

The phone's bound to be tapped!

Captain, I propose we order a bottle of...

champagne in honour of our gracious hosts!

Champagne! Since when do you... Oww...!

Poor Captain! Is your rhuematism acting up again?

Rhuema...!

Oh yes, my rhuematism!

Well, there's nothing like champagne for that!... Waiter!

Okay, here's my room.

I'll stay right off in the corridor.

Good idea!

In the hall.

I'll be right outside...

Good!

-Any problems? -Nah... Sleeping like a baby.

O- oh! Guards everywhere!

A light bulb?!

Look!

C'mon, Captain!

Halt! Halt!

Blistering barnacles! My eardrums!

Let's blend in with the crowd!

O- oh!

Soldiers everywhere!

Colonel Sponsz!

The foreigners have escaped!

Find them! You incompetent fools!

Or tomorrow you'll face...

a firing squad!

You sure you know where you're going?

There's got to be a back door!

Tintin... is that you?

My handsome young man!

How wonderful for you to see me perform!

Always a pleasure, Madame!

And I see you have brought a friend?

Captain Haddock, at your service.

Charmed!

You must join me for a little celebration.

So Mr. Paddock, you saw the show!

Such a success...

wasn't it?

Ah, Haddock, Madame.

I... ah...

Who is it...?

Signora, it is Colonel Sponsz.

He wishes to pay his respects.

But of course!

My admirers... they adore me!

Please, Madame! Don't let him in!

My friend and I are in trouble.

Come in!

Ah, madame!

Please sit down!

What is this?

Ah, a stage prop, Colonel.

The magic of the opera, yes?

Here, allow me to take your coat.

Will you take some refreshment with me, Colonel?

-Open up! -You again?!

Colonel Sponsz! Excuse us!

We're searching for the foreigners.

They are not here, you idiots!

Search some place else!

Forgive me, Madame.

They are looking for two escaped spies.

It sounds most interesting!

You must tell me more, Colonel!

It is a matter of no significance.

The spies are after a prisoner

being held in the Bakhine fortress.

They will not succeed, of course.

Only I hold the necessary papers that would secure the prisoners release.

Bingo!

Hmm! Everything seems to be in order!

Wha-What... what are you doing?

You know the rules!

All papers must be checked.

Of course, commandant!

This is Major Kardouka Bakhine Fortress!

I wish to speak to Colonel Sponsz!

I have two men here with papers ordering

the release of the foreigners.

Yes...? Oh, really!

Fine, gentlemen! We'll release the prisoner immediately!

Ah, Colonel!

I just had major Kardouka on the phone, sir...

He was confirming the release of the foreign scientist.

Fine!...

What!

Get Kardouka on the phone!

They must not be allowed to leave the fortress!

We did it!

Welcome back, Professor!

Well no! I never had the chance to get any postcards!

I work...

Blistering barnacles!

We've been found out!

And we're still an hour from the border!

Faster! They're gaining on us!

Captain! Unhook the roof of the back!

Okay!

Ready?

Now!

Take that you bike-riding swabs!

Move it!

You should have told me you couldn't drive this tank!

You should have asked...

I think I've got the hang of it now!

We're almost there! The border's only two kilometers away!

Land mines!

Yikes!

Stubble-headed dweezels!

Fatheads! Proletarians!

O- oh...

It's a roadblock! What'll we do?

We'll go right through it...

Hang on!

We're at the border!

Good boy! You found the Professor's umbrella!

Aah...! What a relief to be home again!

And with our good friend, Calculus!

That reminds me - where is my umbrella?

Your umbrella!

My umbrella! My dear little umbrella!

And now... look!

I unscrew the handle and.. huh!

The microfilm of the plans for my machine!

It's gone!

Oh..., now I remember where I left it!

Here it is! I left it on my bedside table!

It's a dangerous weapon because

some people could use it for war-like ends.

There is only one thing to do...

destroy these plans!

Ah! Why... thank you, Captain!

Blistering barnacles!

My nerves won't stand much more of you!

You flaming jack-in-the-box!

Chicken pox!

At your age?

Oh, I am sorry!

The End...
