My name is Alex Sampson. I am 20 years old.

I'm a singer-songwriter, and I am from Canada.

It's a very, very small town called Atikokan.

This is pretty much what the town looks like.

We have no stoplights, just some stop signs here and there.

We do have one gas station in town.

Foodland is our only grocery store,

which is closed on Sundays.

When I first started singing, I would sing in this car wash.

I would do all--

almost all of my singing in this place

because the acoustics were nice.

And I'm telling you, I spent hours in this place.

- Espiritu is comprised of 51 people from ages 9 to 25.

I'm a college student,

and, like, we all don't got that much money.

So we actually practice in my school's parking lot.

I'm the director, choreographer, and everything.

- For a lot of us, this is our chance to prove to ourselves,

When I was 15, I won Finnish championships.

The Finnish championships are the biggest event in the world.

I'm really, really good at it.

I've been training 15 years and compete over 200 competitions.

But when you're at the last straw,

when you really feel like just throwing in the towel,

- And why did you pick up that instrument?

- You know, I think this instrument picked me.

You know, I just found music at a young age,

and that particular instrument

just so happened to be the saxophone.

- And that is a saxophone?

- It's a soprano saxophone.

- Who taught you? - So I am self-taught.

- I never had any extremely formal lessons

to master the instrument.

I just spent a lot of time with it

from the time I was a kid till now.

- Has there been a musician

who has inspired you?

- One of the biggest saxophonists alive,

which would have to be probably Kenny G.

- Yes, I hope so.

That led into a scholarship that sent me to China.

It's a Chinese art.

So I went there for two years,

- I want to give her a normal life, to go to school.

So the dream is to get a resident show
