This has been
our biggest year ever in pop culture.

We've had a lot of auctions.
We're getting close to our goal.

We've not hit it yet, but we're
at the final homestretch of auctions,

and hopefully,
these last sales can put us over the top.

All right. Couple big sales:

We had Tyson's Punch-Out!!, 115 grand.

[Ken] That's nice.

[Dave] Star Wars superfractor,
we got 32K for that.

Two Illustrator sales.
We got 372 grand for the PSA 8...

-[Ken] Mm-hmm.
-[Dave] ...and 579,000 for the PSA 9.

[Ken] Very nice.

The moped from Dumb and Dumber
that Jim Carrey traded for his van,

uh, a little over 20 grand.

-[Ken laughs] Does it run?
-[Dave] Barely.

The tires were flat. I think if it ran,
we'd have got 50 grand.

That's the thing, especially stuff
that do not have comps, they're rarities.

Something like that, literally,
could have gone for 5,000.

On the same token,
it could have gone for 50,000.

Yeah. That still puts us a bit shy.

And honestly, with our projections
right now, for the auction,

it looks like we're probably gonna land
like a million shy of the goal.

You know, pending we can't get
some crazy action on the last day.

[Ken] We missed the $2 million
at Comic Con.

That was more of a soft goal.

Thirty million is a hard line.

I mean, that is what is in my budget,
to do 30 million in pop culture.

That is what we need to do.

I cannot help with this close.
I got a call today from Ken Kendrick.

Okay. The Ken Kendrick?

The Ken Kendrick,
owner of the Diamondbacks,

the owner of the Diamondback collection
of trading cards,

the most prestigious and well-known
trading card collection in the world.

We've been communicating because
of the Phillies Diamondbacks series.

I said, "I rooted for the Diamondbacks
as long as I could."

Of course, his big card
has got to be the T-206 Honus Wagner,

the Gretzky Wagner, which became famous
because Gretzky was the guy who bought it

for, I think, like $450,000
way back in the day.

And it was like a crazy, crazy price.

Kendrick bought it years later
for 2.8 million.

And that was a record
for, like, the highest-priced trading card

that literally stood for, like, 15 years.

And, obviously, earlier in the year,

I didn't get my friend Steve's Wagner,
and this one's a better grade.

That card, today,
it's got to be over $50 million.

So I don't know if the stars are aligning
and he wants to do something with this,

but I'm visiting him at his stadium,

where he stores his collection
in an underground vault.

If I can walk away with something,

this could be the start
of a game changer for Goldin.

I mean, he's got to want to consign
if he's got you flying out there.

I've got a flight out today
to go out there and see him tomorrow,

so I'm gonna go catch that.

You gotta get the team rallied,
get everybody on the phone.

It is a hard number I need to hit,
which means you need to hit it.

Do whatever we gotta do.

I thought I was gonna be there
with Dave and the team

to help them get across the finish line
on pop culture, $30 million,

and I think Ken has sold some cards

when I was kind of getting my hands
around what I wanted to do.

But I think Ken already knows
that I'm not a seller, I am a collector.

Couldn't meet you in Philly
during the series, but you were busy.

Here are some that you may want to
take a look at, and we can talk about it.

Right off the top,
1916 Babe Ruth rookie card. PSA 8.

This is the highest graded in the world.

1954 Topps Hank Aaron rookie card,
one of two, PSA 10.

This is probably
in the 9-to-12-million-dollar range.

Here's the guy, I think,
is the most undervalued guy in sports,

at least in baseball, Willie Mays.

'52 Topps, PSA 10.

And that's a one of one.

1951 Bowman Mickey Mantle rookie.

PSA 10, the only one in existence.

Finally, what some people will call
the granddaddy of cards.

1952 Topps Mickey Mantle, PSA 10.

One of only three.

I've offered $28 million for this card,
turned down.

I would have to start
at $30 million and up for the price.

This is just an exceptional,
exceptional collection.

One of the cards, of course,
that I'm most proud to own,

it has its own carrying case,

and it has its own little
first edition book that houses it,

so let me... Uh...

Well, I'm very proud to own it.

I think today's a first.

I can't recall a specific time
I literally interrupted a consignment

to take a selfie with the item.

I mean, this guy's collection
is just incredible.

This is, to me, the single greatest
trading card in existence.

The purchase price was 2.8 million.

-Yup. I...
-The highest I've ever paid for a card.

[Ken] This is just unbelievable.

I would be doing myself a disservice
if I at least didn't ask you. Um...

Do you ever have plans to...
to sell this card?

About four, five years ago,

there were people that are willing
to pay over 30 million for this.

I'm gonna guess, since the boom,
it's got to be over 50 million by now.

Man, I'm looking at these houses,

Today, we're going to meet someone
who has a huge basement collection.

Sometimes we go out and find items.

A lot of times, people just find us,
and call us on the phone,

and get us to come out.

I can't wait to see who's behind the door.

[Ladyzinsky] My name is John Ladyzinsky.

I saw the King of Collectibles show
on Netflix and said, "I have that stuff."

And my wife and I were watching it,
and she said,

"You know we should call them
and see if they'll take a look."

My collection is 50 years in the making.

I have had people try to buy,

and they've always looked
at one particular item or another.

But it's a collection.
I wouldn't want to break it up.

So my wife will only let me have
my sports memorabilia in the basement.

-[Robbie Sr.] Wow! Man!
-[Robbie Jr.] Look at all this stuff!

Woo-hoo!

[Robbie Jr.] This is the
most organized collection I've ever seen.

He's got stuff
going from the floor to the ceiling.

We had an idea of what we would walk into,
but it's way beyond what we hoped.

"Miracle on Ice."

Gretzky.

NBA 50.

Yankee Stadium chair signed by Mantle.

LeBron, 16 by 20.
You've got everything down here!

John hadn't sold any items before,

but when he sees
the passion that we have for his items,

hopefully that'll give him the opportunity
to give it to us on consignment.

You know what?
We'll also make him a lot of money.

That's right.

If you notice on this one here,
the NBA 50,

these signatures are never gonna fade
because they signed them in pencil.

-[Robbie Jr.] Uh-huh.
-You know, so they're gonna last.

Over here, I have a lot
of hockey stuff, as you can see.

[Robbie Sr.] This is amazing.

[Ladyzinsky] Both my boys played hockey,
so I was very much into it.

This is a game-used hockey stick
signed by Wayne Gretzky.

-[Robbie Jr.] The Great One.
-He used this stick in the '85-'86 season,

-when he scored 215 points.
-[Robbie Jr.] Wow. That's amazing.

We have the "Miracle on Ice" team,
signed by everybody, including Brooks.

-[Robbie Jr.] Got Herb Brooks on there?
-Absolutely.

They're just that much sweeter
when you get Herb Brooks on there.

It was an underdog team.

And they still do get together
to do autograph signings.

Obviously, Herb Brooks is not alive
anymore, so you got one before.

Yeah. I also have,
and it's another one of my key pieces,

is a signed Babe Ruth baseball,
on the sweet spot.

And I don't think you're gonna find a ball
whiter than that.

[Robbie Sr.] We saw a Babe Ruth baseball,

at a collector's house,
nowhere near like that.

-The Babe.
-[Robbie Sr.] Babe Ruth.

There it is, man.

[Robbie Jr.] You could take anybody
and they know who Babe Ruth is.

[Robbie Sr.] That ball looks like
it was signed yesterday.

[Robbie Jr.] I'm focused
on these Olympic torches.

These are three Olympic torches that I got
that were used in the Olympic relay.

[Robbie Jr.] Wow.

These are another one of my key items.
Note I got these custom stands for them.

How'd you get them?
How does somebody end up with these?

-Well, I hip-checked one of the runners.
-[laughter]

They dropped it, I ran.

-[Robbie Sr.] Man!
-No one said a thing.

The Beijing 2008 Olympics.

Torino Winter Olympics in 2006.

And, finally, the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Um, I also happened to get
a gold medal here.

-Signed by Usain Bolt.
-[Robbie Jr.] Love it.

[Ladyzinsky] Usain Bolt was the man
at the Olympics.

[Robbie Jr.] How could anybody forget?

John, what made you bring us here today,
though, is what we really want to know?

-All these years collecting these things...
-Yeah.

...and you pick today as the day

to have us come in,
come look at this stuff.

What does that mean?

It's getting to be time,
because we're going to be moving.

And we're moving down to Florida.

But it's my collection. It's...
You know, I put most of my life into this.

Basically, I wanted you to come by,
to look at the collection,

and give me an idea
of what it's worth, just as...

[Robbie Jr.] I see a lot in here.

I'd like to make this our inventory
and sell off this for years.

That's really what I want to do.

John is emotionally attached
to his collection.

The goal here is to get him to trust us.

With the Olympics coming up,
the torch is a hot collectible.

Now is the time
to get that item in our possession.

These Olympic torches, that's something
I would like to have at Goldin,

I'd like to be able to market it
for you now.

The good thing about these,
the Olympics is coming up.

These things would be great.

Well, that's sort of the reason
why I wouldn't want to sell.

We get together as a family and friends,
and watch the Olympic Games.

Having stuff like this sets the mood,
if you know what I mean.

You'll still do that.
You'll just have the money now

instead of having the torches.

That's exactly what I was gonna say.
It'd be nice to sit around with a check.

Uh...

I'm just a little, um...

You only get a short period of time
to be able to sell these things.

It comes up, you have Winter Olympics,
Summer Olympics, every four years.

You've got to strike while it's hot,
when it's there.

Let us move the torches on for you.

And we get that big fat check for you,
and who knows what's down the road.

Last year, I sold this exact set
for over half a million dollars,

but these are even higher-graded.

We'd like to sell them as a set.

This is incredible.

This set is all graded PSA 8's,

which is a huge upgrade
from the previous set.

This trophy set
is the gift that keeps on giving.

This set is so highly chased
around the world,

and the fact that you completed the set,

you're probably one of maybe three people
in the world to have ever done this.

So this is incredible. And there's more!

When I got this card,

-my son was 11 years old.

I sat him down, I said,

"This card may be the most important card
that I will ever own."

Yup.

"And my collection is what, I believe,
will become a legacy in our family."

Mm-hmm.

"When Daddy is gone,
these cards will belong to you."

-[Ken] Yup.
-He says, "Hey, Daddy."

"I just want you to know something."
And I said, "What's that?"

And he says,
"I'll never sell these cards."

That's your answer.

They won't be sold in my lifetime.

I can't say I'm disappointed because
it's what I'm doing with my son, Paul.

I can't say I went to Ken
with expectations

that I would walk away with the Wagner.

I mean, hell, there's no way
I'm gonna walk into that office

and not take my shot
at the Gretzky Wagner.

Simply not gonna happen.

But I had tempered expectations.

I'm slightly disappointed.

I understand
what he wants to do with his family.

It's similar to what I'm doing
for my family.

And, um, we'll see what happens
in the future.

But I am going after
the rest of his collection.

I'm sure there are people in the past,
and even recently,

-that try to buy this card or other cards.
-Yes.

I am trying to find a high-end buyer
for a high-end Wagner.

-Let's call it the Wagner community.
-Yup.

-I've helped with a couple of sales.
-[Ken] Yup.

-I've made some introductions.

who would love to own their own Wagners.

a small part of the Kendrick collection,

and even happier
that this is going to go to charity.

we have this flooring
laid over our normal turf

The most famous thing here

that's where they go to celebrate.

[Kendrick] Twenty-five-year-old ballpark.
Nearly 50,000 seats.

Actually, one of the larger parks
in the MLB.

It looks a lot nicer in person

than it looked to me on TV
in late October.

-Well, your team was losing.

You were not looking
through the right kind of glasses.

Exactly.

This business is all about relationships.

Even when people say they're not listening
about selling, they are.

They hear the numbers.
It's always in the back of their mind.

And when the time comes to sell,
he will be thinking of me,

and I will get my crack
to get this card to Goldin.

[Kendrick] You know,
you could smack it out of here, I'm sure.

[Ken] I couldn't.

-Maybe my son could, but I couldn't.

If we had a dollar for every time they say
they're downsizing and going to Florida,

we'd be in Florida.

I'll tell you what, though, man,
that was a hell of a collection.

We've had sellers who want their items
back because of emotional ties before.

That has happened.

But we were hoping
that that was not the case.

When people have buyer's remorse,
you don't do anything special.

You have to sell yourself again
on why they want to get rid of the item,

because they've already established
that they want to get rid of it,

and you gotta hit that common denominator.

[Dima] I reached out to Dave
at Goldin Auctions

after I saw the first episode
of King of Collectibles, and I'm like,

"This is outrageous. So is our Limo-Jet."

We can build crazy things, but it's gonna
take a certain type of person

to find the buyer
to get them to believe in what we built.

I mean this looks like a legit jet
you would see on... This is unbelievable.

It is a legit jet.
Yeah, so it's a retired fuselage.

You know, Lear 35.

And then we integrated it with a vehicle.

It took us quite a bit of time,
but we made it happen.

One of the biggest tricks on building this

was getting aesthetically
everything to look proper.

So these cowlings are all
custom-made by hand to fit the wheels.

A big visual is what's going on,
because there's no engines in here.

So we said, "Well, what better use,
we'll make some 12-inch subs."

-That's so cool. So cool.
-Oh, man!

[Frank] And then we added strobe lights,
disco lights, LED lights, the works.

You see this thing coming
and you hear it coming.

-[Dima] Like a mobile nightclub.
-Right.

[Dave] As cool as this is,
we need to be aligned on the price.

As much as we'd love to put it on auction,
but if it doesn't have a chance to sell...

At the end of the day,
we want to make money. I know I do.

So, really that dollar amount, though,
is really what it's going to come down to.

The goal would be
to get it for at least five.

I don't think we would go
any less than one.

I always wanna be low on opening bid,

We usually like to start things
like 10-20% of where we think they'll go.

because there's no chance
it doesn't get multiple bids,

but I probably wouldn't have any issues
going to 500 grand.

This is a big investment for you.
We don't want to cost you too much money.
