Here in the UK, we do love a period
property.

I never dreamt I would own a castle.

For me it looks like a typical
doll's house.

From countryside houses...

It was everything you could
dream of.

It was a palace.

..to timeless terraces.

I turned up and I thought,
whoa, this is pretty cute.

But beneath the grand facades..

Hopefully the house won't fall
down. We'll see, won't we?

..these historical
homes are falling to bits.

Everyone told us to tear
this building down.

All over the country, an army
of renovators are snapping them

up at knock-down prices...

I think we should leave it like
this.

It looks old-timey.

..then facing challenges of epic
proportions.

I said all along to get a new build.

This series, we meet the brave
new renovators...

We're looking for a bungalow with a
shed.

..and return to our familiar band
of determined dreamers.

Who else has got a chapel
in their house?

All risking everything...

I thought I had a good idea of what
was needed.

I was quite wrong.

People think renovation
is lovely, don't they?

but it feels like a house now.

Today in Monmouthshire,
a dusty old classic...

It's quite good fun taking stuff
apart.

..gets a contemporary facelift.

Look how good that looks.

I'm really impressed.

In Perthshire, a last minute
problem...

The biggest risk we have is we're
completely exposed to the elements.

..puts the dampers on pre-wedding
excitement.

If it rains, we will get wet.

Make no mistake.

And in Cumbria, Ben and Paul
get competitive...

Everything's a competition with Ben.

So annoying.

Life is so annoying.

..but both come out on top.

I love it, like, I'm so happy.

In the stunning Welsh county
of Monmouthshire,

nestled deep in the woodlands
stands Clomendy Wood Manor.

Built in the Arts and Crafts style
in the early 20th Century,

this grade-two-listed, 30-roomed
property belongs to

events caterers David and Faye
and their nine-year-old son Winston.

They ploughed everything
they had into a mortgage to make

this £940,000 pile their home.

We're hoping that we can find
some finances, we can make

it more efficient and just bring
it back to life, because I think

that's the key. It's such an amazing
property, and whatever way we make

this work is going to be a fantastic
home when it's done.

With such a huge project
on their hands,

this year, Faye and David
are concentrating on renovating

family spaces on the attic floor.

Earlier this week, we saw them dig
deep to create a bunk and playroom

for their son and a showpiece
art deco cinema room.

Now they hope to create the same
wow factor by installing

an attic bathroom.

We have made some decisions in here,
so we've decided on the layout.

I want to do something
really amazing there.

That's the thing. Something that
feels really luxurious and this

needs to be really symmetrical.

But with plumbing, flooring and wall
coverings to consider, keeping track

of the budget is going to be key.

We have a really limited amount now
to finish this top floor,

so we are going to have to be super
creative on how we use that money.

So the first plan for this room
is to repair rather than strip out

and start again.

You need to just follow all the way
down so that you're making

like a little trough if you like.

David's drafted in Faye's stepdad
Barry to pass on his 60

years of expertise.

There's two ways to learn.

You can either learn by making
mistakes or being shown

how to do something properly.

It's much quicker and less painful
if you learn with a mentor

than if you're there to make
your mistakes.

Today, they are patching
the bathroom walls using breathable

lime and hemp materials,
with the hemp adding

an element of insulation.

You could actually put
that in to harden up.

And you see what I'm doing there?

With Barry's expertise,
they're on track to cut

costs, not corners.

Do the same on the other gaps
that you didn't want to visit.

If a job's worth doing,
then it's worth doing well.

Wise words, Barry, wise words.

It's a Yorkshire saying.

Another saying is make do and mend.

And that's exactly what Faye's
doing to save a few quid.

Little bit too deep, but not loads.

Ever resourceful, she hopes to turn
this hallway cabinet into a bathroom

vanity unit to house two
fully plumbed-in sinks.

When we moved into the house,
there was loads of stuff

that the previous owners
left behind.

Realistically, if we wanted to buy
a unit that had this type of finish

on it, it would be £5, 6, 7,000.

That's a lot of money.
We don't have that.

Can you come and look at something
with me just really quickly?

Yeah. Yeah? Yeah. Of course.

Sounds like the perfect
upcycling project to me.

What do you think about this
as a potential vanity unit?

If we could make it work upstairs,
that would be awesome.

You'd have to glue these drawers
because you'll have your waste

in there, you'd have to take out
the shelf.

Yeah, I love it.

Maybe just rubbing down
and staining again?

Or I paint it a mad colour.

Could be exactly what we've been
looking for.

All they need to do now is make sure
it fits the bathroom space.

I hate these stairs.

But before long, both furniture
and marriage reached

the top floor intact.

That is perfect.

Faye's a genius. Faye is a genius.

That's brilliant. I love it.

With a bit of a lick of paint
and a bit of smartening up,

it'll really kind of make
the room feel luxurious.

Just the small matter now of getting
it back outside for painting.

No, no, I get that, I get that,

You shoved it in my face, Dave.

400 miles north in Perthshire,
on a sprawling 22 acre estate,

sits Culdees Castle.

Built in 1810, it was last occupied
over 50 years ago and by 2019

was in desperate need of a rescue
from devastating decay.

Its salvation came with IT
consultant Rob and events manager

Tracy, who purchased the crumbling
castle for £730,000 and set

about a renovation on an epic scale.

The only reason we are here is
because it was on an estate sale.

This is our only chance
of changing our life.

This year, Tracy and Rob have
concentrated on creating a fairytale

wedding venue with the focus
on a complete restoration

of the castle's chapel.

Earlier this week, we saw them
reinstating newly designed

stained glass windows.

Piece de la resistance.

It really is, isn't it?

Papering the ceiling with an Italian
inspired wallpaper, piecing together

a reclaimed tiled floor and creating
a grand entrance hall and staircase

decorated with reclaimed pieces
from Culdees Castle's past.

I think it's quite important
to keep it.

In less than two weeks, Tracy
and Rob will be the first couple

to get married in the newly
renovated chapel.

But just when they thought
everything was almost wedding ready,

the castle had other ideas.

We spent three weeks replacing part
of the roof and then

first shower of rain and it's
leaking like a sieve.

It's like a roller coaster, you
have yay, we finished this!

Oh, bugger, that needs doing.

The majority of the castle rooves
are still damaged and leaky,

but the one Tracy and Rob
are most concerned

about is the east wing roof.

Two floors above, where brides
including Tracy will be getting

married in the chapel below.

Close to collapse and threatening
to damage all their hard work,

they need to reconstruct
it from scratch.

With only nine days to go
before Rob and Tracy say I do.

Even the professionals told us,
you can't do that.

The way you're going to do it, you
can't do it.

And yet, here we are.

It can be done, you just need the
right mindset and support

of people to help you get it done.

Rob has that support
in joiner, Steve.

And it's up there, up there...

It's not many a bride and groom
who are still doing roof repairs

less than two weeks
before their big day.

Obviously, I don't want to be doing
it nine days before a wedding,

before our own wedding, because
weddings are not stressful enough.

But it had to be done.

It's another expensive job,
but to protect the chapel from damage

and to keep it dry,
they just couldn't put it off.

Having already stripped
the old roof away, today's job

is to start the reconstruction.

So you want to put the ridge
up rough?

Trestle here will go up.

Once the new ridge piece
is in place, they can attach

the rafters, which will serve
as the 45 degree supports.

By the end of this week,
the majority of those rafters

should be on.

And then we're into the joists
which run horizontally.

This will fortify the structure.

And then a waterproof lining
will be secured in time

for the big day.

I'll just get it positioned, try
and get a prop under it

and then we can deal with it
from there.

Then I'll lift it up the ladder.
OK. Hopefully.

With a huge task ahead
and the unpredictable weather,

it's a race against time.

The biggest risk we have is
we're completely exposed

to the elements.

And that's not the only task Rob
needs to do before the big day.

You've got more paint on your hands
than actually on the...

Because someone was actually doing
the main hard job and rolling.

In the stunning Cumbrian countryside
stands this grand 22-roomed

Georgian-style manor house.

It was built in 1862 for a wealthy
silk merchant, but over time

the main house and the servants
quarters were separated

and the building fell into
disrepair, leaving the once

magnificent manor crying out
to be rescued.

Bringing the beautiful
building back from the brink

is West End star Ben and his partner
Paul, a property developer.

The most exciting part of being able
to be like the current custodians

of this house is that we get to look
after it, and it's not getting

knocked down or demolished,
or it's not going to fall

down in the end, and we're keeping
it warm, we're keeping it lovely

and stylish, and we've brought it
into the 21st Century.

With phase one, a top-to-toe
renovation of the main house,

complete, earlier this week, we saw
Ben and Paul jump into phase two,

buying the former servants' wing.

Congratulations!

Into the living room.

It's just so '80s.

So actually everything in here needs
to be light, light, light, light.

But it soon became clear
that their vision for transforming

the dated rooms would be another
mammoth task.

What effectively you have is
this would be extension

and you might have a chandelier.

With big plans needing big bucks,
Ben and Paul have been forced

to slam their foot on the brakes
so they can save some cash,

but that doesn't mean they're going
to grind to a complete halt.

We've got to live here for like
potentially the next year and a half

without doing anything, you know,
big, any big building works.

So we've decided that we're going
to concentrate on the living room,

because that's the space that we're
going to spend most of our time in,

and we're going to give it a bit
of a glow up and see what we can do

to that space to just make
it more to our taste.

It means we can get our paint
brushes out.

We definitely can't spend
loads of money doing it.

We have to do everything ourselves.

To create a living room
they can feel relaxed in,

they have stone cladding to cover,
panelling to brighten up, and dated

wallpaper to remove.

It's a big job.

So Ben and Paul roll
up their sleeves.

Coming through.

Once the sitting room
for the servants who worked

in the main house, the only
remaining original feature

is the marble fireplace.

We're quite excited because this is
actually really beautiful,

the fireplace. Once the whole room
is lighter, this is going to really

like pop out more.

It's going to be an amazing feature.

Obviously it would have looked
stunning at some point, but now

it just feels like I don't think
anyone would really want to live

somewhere so dark.

So the first job is to remove
the wallpaper.

It might be that evil wallpaper
that takes forever,

or it might just come
off and we're just praying

for a nice smooth wall.

So basically you just cut big
crosses in all the paper.

So you do this and then the chemical
can get in behind the paper.

Just cover the whole wall.

I think like stripping wallpaper
or painting a wall, you just think

about nothing and everything
at the same time.

It's nice transforming the space,
knowing that it's going to

look better after.

I think I finished my side.

Everything's a competition with Ben.

It's so annoying.

Life is so annoying.

It's not a competition,
though, is it?

Oh, that didn't take long.

It's not bad.
It could have been a lot worse.

Yeah, could have been, yeah.

I'll just pick up your bits
that you've left on there.

With the walls stripped, Ben
and Paul turned their attention

to the tongue and groove panelling.

Using a primer will even out
the surface and should give better

results when they're ready to paint.

I feel like already the light's
reflecting a bit nicer

around the room, which is just such
a relief.

The sort of atmosphere
and the energy in this room

will all change because we're going
to make it fresh, nice, stylish,

clean.. How have you got more paint
on your hands than actually on...

Because someone was actually doing
the main hard job and rolling.

So I got a bit of splashback.

Terrible. Actually, I'm a bit of a
mess.

As any renovator knows, Ben,
from mess, magic will come...

Eventually.

250 miles south at Clomendy
Wood Manor in South Wales...

David and Faye are working hard
on creating a top floor bathroom

with a close eye on the budget.

Whilst repairs are being made
to the cracked walls and ceilings,

they are focusing their attention
on what will be the showcase piece

of the new room.

Straighten all these things up.

Get it looking tidy.

It's going to be awesome.

Hidden in a hallway for years,
this vintage cabinet

is about to be transformed
into a glamorous vanity unit.

We're going to paint this,
and it's kind of like, I don't know

what the colour is called,
but it's basically

like a dusty yellow.

I've been looking at some sinks
for sort of round bowls that will go

here and here.

I want it to be period,
but kind of opulent and regal.

That's the vibe.

Right, you crack on then.
Yeah, yeah.

I'll go get my bits.

The fate of the cabinet
is now in David's safe hands.

It's quite good fun taking stuff
apart. Because of the fact

that the pipework would go slap bang
through the middle of them,

these drawers are no good
to anyone anymore.

But we want these nice fronts,
and I'm going to have to get

the handles off as well.

David must figure out a way
to carefully remove the drawer

bottoms without damaging
the ornate front panels.

Give it a little tap and see.

Failing that, a bit of brute
force should do the trick.

Let's hope it's not a Chippendale.

Next, David prepares the surfaces,
ready for painting.

I'm going to have to get some
proper sandpaper.

While he'd love to take
more time, the clock is ticking.

There's a lot you can hide
with a good bit of filler.

With festival season looming,
the events caterer will soon

need to down tools on the Renault
to get back to his day job.

I'd love to have all the money
in the world and not have to go

to work and not be away
in the summer and just be here doing

work on the house.

But I don't think that's
anyone's reality, you know?

Without the funds in the bank
then we've got to work as much

as we possibly can.

At least David has some tricks
up his sleeve to get this job ticked

off the list before he goes away.

He's bringing out the big guns.

Well, his spray gun anyway.

It speeds things up no end.

I'll be able to do this basecoat
in 15 minutes, and then

we should be able to get it
topcoated very quickly after that.

I reckon I'm good to go.

Using a spray gun is quicker
than a brush and can create

a smoother finish.

It looks like David
has the technique down to a fine art.

It's looking fab.

You can see already
that really nice finish.

And with the scorching sun speeding
up the drying process,

it's soon ready for the final stage.

Time to get some colour
on this beauty and then away we go.

In minutes, the transformation is
complete.

All done.

Oh, cracking.

Ready for Faye's approval.

Fingers crossed this colour is one
she likes.

Given that we've got no money,
I thought that it was an expense

The vanity unit is ready to take
pride of place in a new bathroom.

All they need now is, well,
a bathroom.

Yeah, there's a shower tray, a
shower enclosure, a toilet, a sink.

Um, all the plumbing. Considering
I'm going away in a week...

We're going to need a plumber on
site as soon as possible really.

Mm.

Or a friend who is a plumber.

and he's used all of the artwork

from our wedding stationery,
which is really cool.

The past few days have seen Tracy
and Rob's friends and family

arriving and being put straight
to work on preparations

for the wedding.

Mind the baubles!

And for once, Tracy doesn't need
a hard hat.

It's a bit different, isn't it,
than holding some hammers.

Yeah, wedding prep.

And of course, Steve and Rob
are still on the roof.

Why not?

But lucky for Rob, he's escaped
from having to face his fear

of heights full on.

I woke up this morning thinking I
was going to be finishing off parts

of the roof, but friends have jumped
up and they're doing the work

that I would be doing.

With their help, joiner Steve has
managed to do a spectacular amount

of work on the roof in a very short
space of time.

As far as the roof's gone,
that's went pretty good.

So yeah, pretty happy with that.

Bit of an understatement
there, Steve.

Because this has been the main
concern.

If that was...if we sprung a leak
above this and then it all came

through this,
this would be a disaster.

Last time we checked, the east wing
roof was in desperate need

of construction to protect
the chapel from the elements.

At least the roof that covers this
half is kind of fairly watertight.

Kind of fairly is good enough
for me, Steve.

Just the second half of
the waterproof cover to be attached

and potential disaster
will be expertly averted.

Yeah, that's it.
So, day off tomorrow.

With the day winding down,
everything is almost set

for the ceremony itself.

Tomorrow, everything Rob and Tracy
have been working towards will pay

off, as they are formally united
as the first couple to wed

in the restored chapel.

The last few months
have been an absolute blur.

We've got weddings the week
after ours and the week after that,

and I've been so busy planning them
that setting all this up just felt

like we were doing
it for somebody else.

But it hasn't actually been made
to feel like it's our wedding

probably until today, actually.

All that's left is to cross
off the last day.

Number zero. Then we're happy .

Looks weird. We've been carrying
that down for forever.

And we've been counting
it down with you, Rob.

Emotional!

I bet I cry tomorrow.

Might not. Sure.

And I thought
Rob was the emotional one.

I have a feeling when Rob
and Tracy finally say I do,

there won't be a dry eye
in the castle.

While Tracy and Rob make their final
preparations, in South Wales

at Clomendy Wood Manor...

We'll go straight in the room, Dave.

..work in David and Faye's top
floor bathroom has slowed.

So it is easier than you thought.

Yeah. But yeah, those other ones
are going to be heavy.

The discovery of some ancient
plumbing has meant

they've had to strip back
to the old lath and plaster

so new pipes can be laid,
including those for what will be

the centrepiece, the twin
vanity unit.

It's put their schedule right back.

So today, though they're in
the peak of their working year,

David's left Faye running
their festival catering business

whilst he pops home to help
their builder, Big Dave,

make some progress.

So you want it to be square
where the shower drains.

First on the agenda today,
lay down plywood boards

to create a smooth surface
for the new flooring.

Cut that end off.

So that slides back in so it's
square. Yeah.

Been a lot of work to kind of get
this room going thankfully

Dave's come in to help
us which is brilliant

because he's just...I couldn't trust
anyone more with a space like this.

For Big Dave, taking charge
is no big deal.

A really old building, the really
old pipework, out of square,

but we can get over it.

To lay the floor tiles flush
against the wall

is going to need a bit of careful
cutting around the door surround.

And now we can mark that
and multi-tool the architrave off.

So where we tile we know
that he's going to fit.

And I haven't got to disturb
all this beautiful work.

Perfect fit.

Job done.

You can live in mess,
but you can't work in it.

And I think I'm the epitome of that.

Look at the state of this place.

The last piece of ply goes
down on the floor.

And the first piece
of plasterboard goes up.

It's a nice colour, though, Dave,
isn't it?

Before David's painted vanity unit
comes in to measure up.

Yeah, we're fine.
Yeah, you all clear there?

Oh, look at that.

Looking good.

But Big Dave's looking for a job
well done.

Not done fast.

I don't care whether you're late.

It's more important that we get
this done.

With the basin centred, it's time
to decide where to hang the taps.

Could you hold that for me? Yeah, of
course, mate.

That's where it's out.

So you've just got to imagine
this like it's behind the ply.

Yeah.

So height-wise... It comes down to
hit that there like that.

But I think it's important
that we have...there's a gap.

So you see the bottom of the chrome.

No, definitely.

And then the only way to measure
up properly...

I need to wiggle my bum in that
space Dave, to make sure

there's plenty of room.

This was a little worry.

But the way it's worked out,
rather than being squeezed

here, it's spot on, isn't it?

And now if you can pretend
that this is a piece of glass. OK.

HE GROANS

That's the thing, isn't it? If it
was solid, it'd feel quite cramped

in here, but because it's glass...

You've just made me feel scared
again, now, Dave. I know!

I know I'm not going to, like,
put my name to it, but I think

it's going to be OK.

We'll take some pictures, send
Faye a little video.

Uh, and hopefully she could sign
it off because I've kind

of bottled it.

Sinks are going in there.

A last minute video for Faye ensures
a joint decision, but Big Dave

won't let them down. Dave's a hero.

He's really helped us out
with this and it just yeah,

puts your mind at rest and it means
I can go do what I'm meant to

be doing and make some money.

I'm only ten minutes late.

I'm usually at least half an hour
late, but I am going to have to go.

Pending Faye's approval,
Big Dave can crack on attaching

all the plumbing, tiling the floor
and walls, and, well, getting

the job finished.

250 miles north in Cumbria, Ben
and Paul are transforming the dark

sitting room that was once part
of the servants' quarters attached

to the main house.

We've really enjoyed imagining
how people use the space, the staff

that would have been living here
and servicing the big house next

door and the corridors and the ways
that they were moving around.

Especially now we know that this was
the servants' living room.

I love the thought of everyone
just being in here for a break,

having a gossip, sat round the fire.

It's quite nice.

But there's been no time
for gossiping for Ben and Paul.

They've been busy concealing
the dark stone cladded walls

of the chimney breast with MDF
panelling, which they're now

painting in a calming cream
to help lighten up the room.

It's so nice to see the sort
of crazy paving stone walls

disappear, because this is sort
of just a little glow up.

We've sort of done it very,
very simple.

And we ordered MDF from the woodyard
and they offer like a free service

where they cut it.

So I just measured all the bits
that we need.

Um, and actually we got
all these walls done out of

three boards of MDF.

They've also finished the paint job
on the timber cladding on the walls,

giving the entire room a lift.

It's good. It feels light.

It feels new.

It's going to be bright.

It smells nice.

All the things you want.

I love the smell of paint.

Parfum de paint?
It will never catch on, Paul.

With the walls looking lighter
and brighter,

Ben has a growing concern
about the room's pine flooring.

We did a test patch a few days ago
and we've sort of got a colour

that we're kind of happy with.

That was about 3 or 4 layers,
but with the proper varnish brush

I feel like it goes on a bit darker.

Hopefully 2 or 3 would be amazing,
is what we're hoping for.

Otherwise we'll have to buy another
expensive tin of varnish.

This is the second layer
on the floor, which is hopefully

just going to eradicate the orange
tint in the room,

which would be good.

Something nice about just making
a floor new,

it feels clean and fresh.

So my feet are lovely and tanned.

So technical, aren't we?

We've got all the... What is that
saying? All the gear, no idea.

Or a bad tradesman blames his...

You're only as good as your tools.

Which is why we've got rubbish
ones.

And if it goes wrong,
we can just blame them.

I think we'll do a few more coats
on the floor.

A few final touch ups, get
the lighting done.

Yep. And then we'll be done.

And then we've got furniture.

The best bit. Yes!

A few days later, and Ben and Paul
have been doing what they do best.

With their big future plans
for the servants' quarters on hold

to recoup some cash, they needed
an instant transformation

without the big bucks.

So now, in what was a drab and dingy
room in desperate need of TLC...

Ta-da!

..they've pulled off an incredible
glow up.

It's so different.

The oppressive stone cladding
is gone, replaced

by light wooden panelling.

The luxurious cream colour
on the walls makes the room feel

bigger and brighter,
and their finishing touches,

lighting, soft furnishings
and a cosy rug mean Ben and Paul's

glow up really does live
up to its name.

It's just crazy, the transformation.
It feels so calm.

The floor came up really nice
so we didn't have to sand it down.

It was so easy, the quickest
fix ever.

It was brilliant to just make
something of the beautiful

fireplace. We've got the most
gorgeous original marble fireplace

in here. This is probably one of the
worst rooms you could start

with because it was dark, it's
internal.

It was covered in stuff
that we didn't like.

And now everything I kind of love.

Yeah. It definitely is like a space
I just want to relax.

This is just going to stay like
this, you know that?

It's not going to ever be... No!
We are doing this house.

It is going to get done.

I love it, like, I'm so happy. Are
you?

It's been an epic year for Ben
and Paul.

They've put finishing touches
to the renovation of the main house.

The guest bookings are filling
up quickly and now with the first

quick fix in the servants quarters
under their belts, they're ready

to tackle the other dated
and dark rooms.

I think even just doing
the new lounge next door

and that little glow up, I think
we've learned that we can get joy

in just doing a quick, quick thing
where we make something nice

and comfortable for us.

If you're going to start your own
renovation, I'd say be brave.

Stick with it. You're going to have
huge highs and then very low lows.

But if you're into it and you love
it and you love the property,

then it's all worth it in the end.

And when the results are as
impressive as this, I couldn't agree

with you more.

the bathroom finally comes together

for Faye and David...

It's got all the bits that we always
wanted.

Smashed it, absolutely smashed it.

..and history is made
at Culdees Castle...

We're actually getting married
in our own chapel

that we've renovated.

..as Tracy and Rob get their
fairytale ending.

It is now my very pleasant
duty to proclaim

you to be husband and wife.

In Monmouthshire, it's a big
day for David and Faye.

Over the past month, whilst
they've been away for work, builder

Dave has pulled a blinder
in the attic bathroom, updating

the plumbing, fitting smart metro
tiles to the shower area and laying

a geometric tiled floor.

That would be the centre.

Now, four months after they started
work on what was a dark, empty attic

room with cracked walls
and uneven floor, the room

is completely transformed.

Smart grey panelling on the walls
contrasts with classic

cream Metro tiles.

Floral print wallpaper and pink
geometric floor tiles give the room

a feminine touch.

And the period details tie
in perfectly with the age

of the house.

This room looks incredible.

Obviously I'm biased.

This room looks incredible.

We can do this.

And it's easy to get lost
in the chaos of renovation.

And then when you've a got room
finished, you're like, OK,

that looks ace.

It's got the period feel
to it that we were after. Yeah.

It's not crazy art deco or it's not
crazy modern in any way.

All the little things that we wanted
in here, like the two heads

on the shower, the little cut out
to put your soaps on, the different

colours, just it's got all the bits
that we always wanted. Yeah.

Taking centre stage is David
and Faye's upcycled 1930s sideboard.

Now cleverly converted, complete
with twin sinks and storage.

We couldn't find anything
that we liked that wasn't thousands

and thousands of pounds.

And the fact that this fit
is a miracle and we didn't

have to mess around with it, did
we, really? It literally fit.

Nope. Just brought it up here,
measured it, took it back

downstairs, painted it, brought it
back up here, checked it fit,

took it back downstairs
so it didn't get damaged.

Brought it back up again.

Easy.

All of this essentially, not all of
it, but most of it is like

reclaimed or second-hand
or we found it somewhere.

So that's better
for the environment anyway.

The more we can save by using things
we've already got or...

We haven't got any money.

..getting things second-hand
it means we can do more.

And they certainly have.

In the last six months. Faye and
David have juggled a

full-on festival season, with major
renovations on the top floor

of their 100-year-old house.

From the cool bedroom for Winston,
complete with secret door

to a hidden crafting space
to the chic cinema room built

into the old attic.

They've also finished a cosy bedroom
adjacent to the showpiece bathroom,

and whilst their renovation journey
is far from over, it's time now

for them to enjoy the spaces
they've created for themselves

before they embark on the next
phase of the project.

The best thing about getting
this done is that we can now stop

and relax a bit, just get
to enjoy it.

I think that's actually
the most important thing

of getting this done.

400 miles north in Perthshire, Rob
and Tracy's momentous

day has arrived.

After 16 months of renovations
on an epic scale, clearing decades

of rubble, creating new rooms
from the debris, and following Rob's

romantic proposal to Tracy
in the castle kitchen, it's finally

time to put the tool belts down.

On their journey, they've
resurrected the chapel, transformed

the stairs and hallway,
and resolved a roof repair.

But now, for a few hours
anyway, renovations are on a pause.

The marquee's up, the flowers
are in bloom and the chapel

and hallway are fully dressed.

With a couple of hours to go, Tracy
and the bridal party are getting

ready and the bubbles are flowing.

No men in here.

Out!

It's a little bit crazy
in here today.

There's lots of people running
around.

Everybody's getting their hair,
their nails, their makeup done.

We're actually getting married
in our own chapel

that we've renovated. It's all a
little bit numb and a little bit

surreal, and it doesn't actually
feel like my wedding.

I am quite proud of how it looks.

I think it looks really,
really good down there.

I think we've prepared really,
really well.

Just a few miles down the road, Rob's
head is still in organising mode.

You got pants on? Yeah. OK.

That shirt's nice, actually.

What I don't want to do is put
other people under pressure.

If, IF, something goes wrong,
they have to come and grab me.

But there's also a moment
for a spot of reflection.

I'm looking forward to seeing
Tracey when she comes in.

I know how nervous she was and how
much effort she's put into today,

and it all culminating in that trip
up the aisle.

So with every last preparation done,
the time has finally come.

I'm a lot more nervous than I was
five minutes ago,

but no reason why. Why should I be
more nervous?

I will be nervous when I get
into the chapel.

I think the first thing I'm going
to do is head to the bar

and get a drink.

It feels really weird to be here
and not allowed to do things.

It's a Friday and I should be doing
stuff in the castle.

Be up there doing a bit
of felting or something.

No time for that now, Rob.

All that hard work to pull
off the epic transformation

has led to this perfect moment.

Would you please be upstanding to
welcome our beautiful bride to be.

Rob and Tracy have chosen
to exchange vows and pledge

their love for one another
in their very own chapel.

They have worked tirelessly
renovating the castle.

And I am sure that you all agree,
Rob and Tracy's dedication

to bringing Culdees back to life
has been worth the hard graft.

It really is the fairytale ending
this chapter of

Culdees Castle's history deserves.

It's a good, intimate group.

38 people, including us.

It's the first time we've ever
hit the chapel hard.

And we've had, what?

The best part of three and a half
tons of weight, there.

We haven't really stress-tested it
for weight.

Engineer told us would be fine.
It was fine.

But there's always that slight
moment of, ooh...

But it was fine.

All the blood, sweat, tears.

All the late nights.

Everything, today.

It's just...it's just perfect.

Being privileged enough to be part
of this is really something special.

Myself and Tracy are very, very
proud.

We got a few rooms in there we'll
finish off and myself, Tracy

and Steve will then sit down and
work out what the plan of attack

is for next year.

But for now, we're going to enjoy
the night.

We're going to have a few drinks,
a few dances, because there'll

be a lot of celebration and laughter
tonight, and that's what it's about.
