The sandstorm made the water in the well dirty

so I had to boil water to wash dishes and cool it to wash vegetables

Who told you to do that?

My mother told me that when there is yellow dust in the air

water becomes dirty, dust goes in the food and...

it makes food spoil faster, so she did this

Oh, my! Oh, my... Myeong... I've missed her all my life...

I've always felt guilty for Myeong...

Her daughter has been with me and it's you...

Your mother who ate the wild berries and said they were tasty...

(Episode 28)

What is it? Her condition seems to be critical

Drag her out of here

Don't touch her!

I will never leave you alone if you touch her!

She's someone to be pitied... She doesn't deserve this!

She's not going to leave this way... Never... never...

They already left

To where? Where did they go?

Where did they go?!

To Jeju...

You can't change things now The judgment has been made already

Hey! Hey!

Ouch!

Hey! Hey!

That's enough... Let's go!

No... I can't leave Madam here in the cold ground! Let go!

Consider it lucky that we didn't just leave her here

How... how can you not build a mound for her!

She's not someone you can do this to!

We have to catch the boat! Hurry up!

Madam... No... no... no...

No... no... Madam... I won't forgive them...

I won't forgive those who have done this to you!

I won't forgive them, Madam!

Hello. I was going to visit you soon

Really?

We'll have to redesignate someone for the Highest Kitchen Lady...

Lady Han died on the way

Excuse me?

She couldn't have endured the long trip with her bad health

What did they do with the body?

What could they have done with the body of a person who was guilty of treason?

She'd be lucky if they didn't leave the body lying anywhere

How about Jang-Geum who went with her?

Since I heard she got on a boat she probably went to Jeju

She died before she got to Jeju

How about Jang-Geum?

Young-Ro... Keum-Young... Please tell them for me

Tell them what?

Actually, Jang-Geum and I bought those ducks together

Lady Han and I cooked the food, too So I'm guilty of treason, too

You're crazy

Young-Ro... Keum-Young...

You can speak to Lady Choi for me She listens to you

So tell her I have to go to Jeju for the crime of treason, too

Lady Han passed away There's no one with Jang-Geum

How is she going to live by herself? So send me, too

Please send me to Jeju!

Get back to your senses

I understand your feelings but that was treason

Bad things could happen to you if you say such rash things

So that's why I'm asking you!

What do I need to do?

What do I need to do for you to grant my request?

Just tell me what to do I'll do whatever you tell me to do

Madam! Madam! Get out of here!

Madam, please. Lady Han passed away and it'll be very hard for Jang-Geum

You must've gone crazy! Madam!

Will a whipping bring you to your senses?!

Get out of here!

Will you send me to Jang-Geum if I get whipped?

If it's that kind of whipping, I'll receive 100, no 1,000 blows!

Madam! Are you crazy?

Where do you think this is? Come out

Madam! Please be understanding

She'll be OK in time Please be understanding

What the heck...

This is it... I've finally found this after 20 years

Hey! Where you going with all that?! Where could I possibly go?

You're going to Jeju, aren't you? Then how can I not?

You expect me to just sit idly and watch Jang-Geum become a servant?

They have to work as barmaids, too I can't just sit and watch!

So?

Buy her with money or get her here with money

Do you think that makes any sense?!

You said nothing's impossible with money

Why you! Get inside!

You steal my money and run away?! And what is Jang-Geum guilty of?

Treason

What is treason? It's the biggest crime in the world

Even with thousands of dollars, you can't get her out. Maybe time...

You were lucky you weren't caught...

But you could get caught for treason in the future as well

lfJang-Geum were our real daughter, you and I would've become servants

And you're saying you'll go and help her?

Do you have any brains at all?

OK, I have no brains at all! But what about Jang-Geum?!

Just wait. Over time, a crime like treason could work out fine

When is that? When?! Don't ask me! Did I drag her away?!

That's why I must go!

Where do you think you're going?! Why that...! Hey!

Sir!

Sir? He acted like he'd die for her but now Jang-Geum's guilty of treason

and he hid because he's afraid it might harm him

That's how all scholar-officials are That's why you can't trust them

Jang-Geum was different. Even though she'd be kicked out to the herb garden

she went back to the palace after saving your life

The person you were looking for... the person who saved your life...

...is Jang-Geum!

What?

The trinket you had was Jang-Geum's

What are you talking about? What are you saying?!

What good is that now?!

What'll you do with Jang-Geum in that situation?

What good is being your lifesaver? Poor Jang-Geum...

Sir Don't pay him respect

How can you try to run away twice already?

This is Jeju, an island! Where will you go? You'll swim?

I don't want to punish a pretty lady, either

I beg you like this... Let's live quietly, OK?

Please let me go... please...

You still have a long way to go to get your mind back

The country pays me to keep an eye on you

And you're asking me to free you? Man... Go inside...

I tied you as others are looking I don't want to tie you either

Please let me go... please...

OK, but next time, I'll report it to the superior

Sir...

Don't call me that. I'm just a noncommissioned officer in Jeju

I think I'll die without fulfilling my duty because of you

Get inside... and I'm sorry, but I can't feed you for two days

Sir... Go on in

I must go! I must go! I must go!

Hey! Untie this for me Can't you hear me?

Idiots. Do they think they can make me obey this way?

Please untie mine, too

You're a maidservant, huh? So?

Let's run away together

You were caught while trying to run away...

so let's run away together

I must go back to the land I must go back to Han-Yang

Are you that Royal Kitchen lady?

Yes

Seem to be having a hard time adjusting as a maidservant

when you'd been living in the warmth of the palace

but even the wife of the head... I must go!

I must go even if I die

Even if you die? Yes

Then there's one way...

At the crack of dawn... these two women are driving me mad

What is it this time?! She has chicken pox

What?! Are you sure? I'm sure

What should I do?!

You have to put her separately in a hut before it spreads to others

It's big trouble. Hey, take her away

Me? Then should I do it?!

You should go with us Why? I have to stay for 3 more days

But you're a physician... Close the door. It's cold

Man...

Guard her carefully

Make sure no one comes near, OK? Yes, sir!

Let's go

If you rub on oil beetle extract, you'll get blisters like chicken pox

Then they'll separate you into a hut Then you go to a hut at the beach

If you tell them my name they'll let you on the boat

My name is Jang-Duk

Hey... hey!

How can you be sleeping?! I didn't sleep!

I saw you, so don't deny it!

I really didn't sleep! Yeah, right. Give this to her

Is she doing OK? Yes!

Look at her and tell me! Yes!

Here, eat it. Hey! She's not here. She's not here!

She's not there?! She ran away?!

A person named Jang-Duk told me I could get on the boat...

Another prank by Jang-Duk?

What?

Catch her!

Stop right there! Catch her! Stop!

Stop right there! Stop right there!

I can't relax even one day because of you!

Told you my superior would scold you You're in big trouble now!

I told you to watch her How can you be so careless?

Actually, she had chicken pox symptoms so we separated her and...

So all the soldiers have to guard her?

If you try to run away once more I'll send you to Woo Island, OK?!

You'll be punished, too!

Beat her 10 times and don't give her any food!

What did I tell you?

Why you...! You're driving me crazy I'll die because of you

Excuse me, is there a maidservant named Jang-Geum here?

Jang-Geum? You bet there is... Can I meet her right now then?

It's hard to meet that maidservant

She's getting beaten for trying to run away

Beaten?

The superiors were merciful

She tries to run away whenever she can. She'll die that way

Why did you do such a thing?

Excuse me...

What's going on?

What are you talking about?

I trusted you as I thought you were helping

Why did you push me into the soldiers' hut?

To save you

A servant can't live if she doesn't learn to give up

A servant can only live like a dead person

So learn to quit quickly No one... can make me quit! No one!

Let's hurry... Madam is waiting

Let's go Hey!

Hey, you should pay respect to Jang-Duk I can see a difficult life ahead of you

She seems to be a servant, too Why does everyone respect her?

And what's with the silk dress?

A wealthy family bought her a silk dress and called for her

No one can be rude to her No. They really do respect her

Looking for me?

Yes, I heard you're in charge of the servants here

Can I meet maidservant Jang-Geum? Jang-Geum?! Oh, no, not her!

Why not?

Because she always tries to escape

I don't know why she's here, but she's not in her right mind

She might get killed Huh?

She'll starve or be beaten to death before she can run away

Her health has deteriorated, too If she keeps escaping, I'll die, too

There's no way I can meet her?

Don't even think about it!

If she tries to run away again then she'll be sent to Woo Island

And I'll be punished, too

But who are you anyway?

Even so, how could he leave his office like this?

He seemed to be in great distress

Where did he say he was going?

I followed him to the port and saw him leaving for Jeju

What are you going to do?

It's my fault. I'll have to do something before they harm him

Shouldn't you be doing that dish? Instead of Keum-Young, you...

Man! Lady Choi doesn't care about hierarchy

She'll hear you

I don't care! If they keep this up I have a plan, too

A plan?

I prepared the meat in much smaller chunks!

What?

And the green onion is saltier, too

Why?

I'm being rebellious! Rebellious?!

Congratulations Thank you. Sit over there

Congratulations, Madam

Madam! Please forgive me Think of me as your servant

Sit down Yes, ma'am

Thanks, everyone

First of all, I think it's fortunate that the kitchen has found peace again

Treason in the kitchen? It should never be!

We can't forgive Lady Han or Jang-Geum or those who were close to them

It's all because of Lady Jung who disregarded tradition and

the arrogance of Lady Han of lowly birth

Such things happen to those who don't understand the times and people

But I'm different. I'm a member of a famous family which produced

generations of Highest Court Ladies

Just keeping that tradition won't bring any trouble

And I'm going to forgive whatever rash things you've done...

because of your powerlessness

So from now on, trust me and behave according to the customs

I thought you'd be rebellious "Please forgive me." What was that?

I was rebellious! How?

When I was bowing, my legs were Indian-style

Ha!

Then what could I have done? I was scared to death

"I can't forgive them" "I'm different"

I was scared, too So we just need to be good 50

What?

You know, our actions and heart working separately

Anyway, my rebellion will continue That's the only way to survive

OK. I'll only trust you

Sir!

Oh! Your small face looks even more haggard

It's because ofJang-Geum, isn't it?

You know Jang-Geum She's probably fine, so don't worry

You should go visit her Huh?

Please deliver my letter, too Please, sir?

Forget her...

This isn't good. Living in a palace is already hard enough...

It'll be unbearable if you get sick at heart

It's best for powerless ones like us to consider time as the cure

You know, no news is good news

Just think, she's doing fine no matter what

If you get sick, you won't be able to see her when you can

You should take care of your health You've become so haggard

And this... is supplemental medicine Just chew one pill a day. Here

Now we can relax!

I'm sorry for making you worry all this time

So you should be better to us from now on

Of course, sir. How could I ever forget what you've done?

There will be many difficulties now that you've become Highest Lady

Just ask and I'll give you help whatever it may be

Thank you. I'm thinking of getting rid of the accountant system...

that Lady Han brought back Sure

I'll inspect the Food Services myself so I can quickly recreate the system...

which was destroyed last time

Of course! She surely knows the order of things to be done

He left?

We don't know, either He left everything without a word

Because of me... Could it be...

Yes, sir...

You'll go to the pasture to work today

Don't be lazy and get everything done today

You tried to escape many times, so you'll have to be shackled

Be understanding, Jang-Geum OK. Come out, now

Horse manure will stink bad Yeah. When will we clean all that?

Look at Jang-Geum's ankles... Yeah... poor girl...

You just need to deliver this letter to a servant named Jang-Geum

Just deliver this to her?

Yes. If she writes a reply then bring it back to me

Sure

I don't think today's a good idea She was released to work in a pasture

OK

You can't finish everything that way. Faster!

You don't need to push people around like that

You're easy on them and that's why servants always run away

Really, officer? Aren't you that guy who lost her while sleeping?

I was just tired that time Why you...!

She must've given up by now, right?

Eat as much as you want Hey, your mouth will rip!

Hey! Catch them! Catch them! Hurry!

Catch them! Catch them!

Again?! Oh, no!

Jang-Geum ran away again! Dang!

Oh man!

She's gonna get it this time...

Why did she run away again?

I don't know why she keeps escaping She'll be caught again

Get her!

Sir...

Let's go

Over there... Over there...

It's alright. It was just a scratch

Now I realize...

the feeling of your hands

Though I was unconscious I couldn't forget the feeling

As soon as I got here, I saw a lady who was pursued by soldiers

I didn't know what she was going to do at the sea...

and what she was going to do...

I only wished she wouldn't be caught

I despised myself for not being able to do anything when such things

happened to you, so I became irrational

So I decided to help you run away and prepared for it

You just need to meet the owner early morning and ride the boat

But I came back to my senses when I saw you

You'll die if you get caught running away like this

Even if you stay alive, you'll have to live like your parents...

being pursued at all times

Please give me one more chance

I'll make sure everyone finds out it wasn't treason

Please give me a chance

But even if you decide to run away, I'll help you

No, if not now, after 3 days, a year, 3 years, or 10 years later...

if you want to leave here, then I'll be beside you

But please take my advice now

If you keep doing this, you'll die without giving me a chance to help you

Madam passed away

She died saying, she'd be at the palace

I can't stay here

I can't stay here because I miss her

Sir...

Jang-Geum, don't cry

I told you not to cry, didn't I? Don't cry, and live

If you live, Myeong and I will never die

Don't cry

It's the fourth time already?!

And you even thought of running away with a man?!

There's no need for further inquiry Send her to Woo Island!

Sir, how can you be so harsh to one who has returned of her own accord?

Who are you to interfere?!

Sir...

Sir, he's the high military officer, Sir Min, assigned to Jeju recently

What? He's the high military officer? Yes, sir. Didn't I give you notice?

Then how...?

He probably brought someone who he thought was running away

Is that so?

Untie him!

You should've told me, sir

She won't run away again Be merciful to her

No, I can't do that She tried to run away four times

The soldiers are always trying to catch her

And she freed the horses so we had a great loss...

Trust me and do what you think is best

It's hard to assign her work and no one wants to keep watch over her

Trust me. Give her a chance But...

I'll make her obey
