Here in the UK, we do love a period
property.

I never dreamt I would own a castle.

For me, it looks like a typical
doll's house.

From countryside houses...

It was everything you could
dream of. It was a palace.

...to timeless terraces.

I turned up and I thought,
"Whoa, this is pretty cute."

But beneath the grand facades...

Hopefully, the house won't fall
down. We'll see, won't we?

...these historical homes are falling
to bits.

Everyone told us to tear
this building down.

All over the country, an army
of renovators are snapping them

up at knock-down prices.

I think we should leave
it like this.

It looks "old-timely".

Then facing challenges of epic
proportions.

I said all along to get a new build.

This series, we meet the brave
new renovators...

We were looking for a bungalow
with a shed.

...and return to our familiar band
of determined dreamers...

Who else has got a chapel
in their house?

...all risking everything...

I thought I had a good idea of what
was needed.

I was quite wrong.

People think renovation
is lovely, don't they?

Oh, God, I'm trembling.

...to create the forever home
of their dreams.

Oh, my God, it's so nice!

Brick by brick...

Whoa! This is amazing.

...room by room...

I'm still having my pinch-me moment.

We're nowhere near finished,
but it feels like a house now.

...we are a renovation nation.

Today, childhood memories inspire
a chic bedroom

transformation in Northumberland.

My dad's brother was a sea captain.

He used to bring us back dolls
from all the countries he's visited.

She's going to be the perfect
addition to my oriental room.

At a rural Perthshire castle,

Tracey and Rob get sentimental
over historical artefacts.

I never dreamt I would own a castle.

It was always something, as a little
Scottish boy, you'd always dream of.

It really pulls at emotional
strings that I didn't know I had.

And David and Faye create an Art
Deco cinema in the attic

of their Monmouthshire manor.

I think it looks great.
Like, you can see everything start

to take shape now.

In the historic county of
Northumberland is Haltwhistle,

the geographical centre of Britain.

Overlooking the town stands
Greystonedale.

A stone-built Victorian villa,

it was bought for 300 grand
by retired palliative care nurse

Joanne and former aircraft engineer
Geoff, who fell in love the moment

they opened the door.

We came in and then we walked
through the door and we went, "Wow!"

Standing empty for more than 25
years, the once beautiful features

of Greystonedale were ransacked
and vandalised.

So now it's down to this pair
of novice renovators to bring

the derelict house back to life.

Sticking always to Joanne's mantra.

I love getting second-hand things.

My mother-of-the-bride outfit
for my daughter's wedding was £10

from a charity shop.
I'm proud to say that.

Um... It's part of the fun, though.
Yeah.

Earlier this week, we saw
Joanne and Geoff restore one

of their bargain finds - a marble
fire surround.

Next, they renovated their annexe,
getting it ready

to be an affordable holiday rental.

Today, they tackle the next phase
of the project - their main bedroom.

This is going to be our... Master
bedroom. Master bedroom.

This is going to be my Chinese
chinoiserie-style master bedroom.

Chinoiserie is a Chinese-inspired
decorative style.

First popular in the 17th century,

it features motifs, flowers
and birds.

I've introduced Geoff to opera
since we met, and I took him to see

Madame Butterfly a couple
of weeks ago at Darlington.

And I could see him
all the way through thinking,

"Oh, my goodness, she's getting some
ideas for that Chinese bedroom."

So with walls and ceilings
to plaster, furniture to source,

and decorative features to add,
there's plenty to keep them busy.

It's going to be fun.
It's going to be a fun room to do.

It's just going to be perfect.

With the room cleared and plastering
under way, today Joanne is

renovating this old four-poster bed,
a gift from a friend.

As the centrepiece of her
chinoiserie bedroom,

it needs work.

After a quick sand, the bed is ready
for a makeover, and furniture

restorer friend Lisa is on hand
to help with her trusty spray gun.

I could possibly have done it, but

I know she would do it to
perfection. And she's doing it for

mates' rates, so that's even
better.

To achieve a finish that mimics
traditional lacquered furniture,

it's all about choosing
the right shade of black.

We know black is not black,
so this has undertones of red.

It has yellow, umber.

Um, it just gives it a little bit
more of a warmer feel.

Not sure the guy in the window
goes with the decor, though, Joanne.

That's my gold man.

My gold man was a present
off my friend,

and he's been with us for years.

Um, he follows us everywhere.

He's the man in my life - apart
from Geoffrey, who I love.

Oh!

He got to go.

He's blocking the light.

Now he's out of the way,
the transformation can begin.

Right, I'll just plug this in, Jo.

Using a paint spray gives
a more even finish, and it's much

quicker than using a brush.

So you can see obviously
that's just... It's not even

a full coat. It looks amazing.
It's like...

It was a tired, free bit of
furniture from my lovely old boss.

For Queen of Thrift Joanne,

this instant makeover is
what the renovation is all about.

I'm not a pristine person.

I don't want anything perfect
or... Like, I don't want

the house pristine.

If you make them perfect, you take
the character away from the building

and the house.

So if the wood's got a little chip
in it or knocks in it,

it's a bit of feature.
It's a bit of history.

Looks amazing. Looks amazing.

I think that's it.

A great start, but with the room
still a bare shell, creating

the dream chinoiserie bedroom
is still a long way off.

300 miles away, in South Wales,
is the county of Monmouthshire,

where, nestled in 17 acres
of woodland, lies the impressive

Clomendy Wood Manor.

Designed by architect Arthur Bolton
in the Arts and Crafts style,

it's now home to festival caterers
David and Faye, who stumped

up an incredible £940,000
to pick up this palatial pile.

The first-time I came to look
around, I had in my head

that I needed to remind Faye
that you couldn't have a place

this big unless you had loads
of money to do it up.

And then we walked around once
and I was like, "Yes, let's put

"an offer in. Let's buy it."

I think everybody thinks we're mad.

It's fair to say it was a stretch
for Faye and David,

but they have a plan.

They're funding the restoration
by living on the top floor

of the house and renting
the rest to paying guests.

Earlier this week, we saw them
complete their first room -

a magical den for their son,
Winston.

One more bang.

Whoa!

Today, they are focusing
on renovating their

top-floor attic space.

So it's going to be an Art Deco
cinema.

Which they hope will be a place
to relax and escape the mess

of the renovation.

We're going to raise the floor level
so that we've got a couple

of different heights for
the seating, so it really does feel

like a cinema.
Once the space is cleared,

they'll need to install electrics,
flooring and pull together

the decor...

...attempting to emulate
the Art Deco style synonymous

with the 1930s era.

I've got a plan for some light
boxes, like a little cocktail

area as well.

We've got some really beautiful old
red curtains on the huge windows,

but also on one of the smaller
windows.

They would be amazing in here.

Definitely needs carpet,
red carpet. Gold. Gold carpet?!

The champagne style
will have a lemonade budget

as the economic crisis bites hard
into their limited funds.

It's been a really expensive winter.

You think about how much
we spent on fuel last year.

It's a staggering amount, wasn't it?

We're not talking a few quid.

We're talking about ten
grand's worth of fuel.

It's probably about 25%
of what we were hoping to spend

on the whole house

ended up just going on heating
the house.

So, yeah, crazy.

A few weeks later, Faye
and David have drafted

in carpenter Barney.

Dave, I reckon if you were to hold
them in a minute, I will just double

check with everything.

Measure twice.

These tiered platforms will form
the base of their Art Deco

auditorium.

I'm glad I did that. Makes all the
difference

having someone here who knows
what they're doing.

In no time at all,

the boards are laid ready
for the period seating to go in.

Incredibly, these Art Deco seats
were destined for the dump.

There's a few scuffs, but, I mean,
a lick of paint...

Any renovator knows that recycling
and reusing is key

when budgets are tight.

That needs to be resprayed
or repainted.

And then probably these
need to be re-upholstered.

I know that's a big job,
but definitely needs some work.

So that when you walk in, it's a
room that brings you joy.

That's what you want, isn't it?

The room of joy.
The room of joy.

Watch your step. And with the chairs
in place upstairs...

You see that line on the floor?

Yeah.

...Faye's joy cranks up a further
notch.

I think it looks great.

Like, you can see everything
starting to take shape now.

While Faye's Art Deco vision
is coming together...

OK.

...Dave's got other ideas.

If we shuffled it back,
it would give us more space

to have a sofa butted up against
this, or beanbags as well.

Will Faye compromise her 1920s
finish for some 2020s comforts?

You're not allowed to make
any choices about how things look.

OK.

But with some high-end cinema room
tech next on the list of jobs,

someone might need to compromise.

Coming up...

...at Culdees Castle
in Perthshire, Tracey and Rob

are mounting historical
artefacts to decorate

their stunning bridal stairway.

These will make a great display.
So, although they're interesting,

they'll also make a nice piece
of art. And that's what we're after.

And in South Wales, Faye and David
have a blowout over just how many

speakers they need for their cinema
sound system.

How many? 14. Are you serious?

You've gone over the top in terms of
how much we need, I think.

In rural Perthshire, the gateway
to the Highlands,

stands 200-year-old Culdees Castle.

On the Buildings at Risk Register,
it was a veritable ruin.

However, in 2019, it was bought by
Rob, an IT consultant,

and Tracey, an events manager.

I think it was just about saving
a beautiful building and being able

to live in this environment, really.

Paying 730 grand,

they got the castle, an eight-bed
manor house

and 22 acres of land.

We are a little bit crazy.

We are renovating something
that is a little bit quirky,

a little bit off the wall
and a little bit stupid, really.

With Rob and Tracey's hard work,
the castle is now off

the Buildings at Risk Register, but
there's still a lot to do.

Earlier this week, we saw
their Victorian chapel transformed

into a stunning wedding
venue where, in a few weeks,

they will be the first couple
to tie the knot.

Next on their renovation hit list
was their grand entrance stairway,

which they've now finished
with hand-printed wallpaper.

Their plan now is to add finishing
touches, picture frames mounted

with found artefacts and archive
from the castle's history.

Today, Tracey is sorting
through old documents she found

in a trunk in the loft, left
by previous owners.

Look at this - a clothing book.

It's a war ration clothing book.

Quite fascinating, really, isn't it?

I really like this.

I think this needs to be displayed.

A life member
of The Old Glasgow club.

I don't know what they are.

July 1961.

This is when all the silver
was recorded.

Look how much. Gosh!

But it's a pile of old gas
receipts that have really

grabbed Tracey's imagination.

It's hard to believe
these are still intact.

1901, that one.

These will make a great display.

So, although they're interesting,
they'll also make a nice

piece of art. And that's what we're
after.

These are definitely going in.

You see the changes from barrels
to gallons.

Yeah.

Rob's helping Tracey to sort
the bills ready for framing.

Barrels would have come
on a horse and cart.

All the way from Glasgow.

When we moved into the castle,
there was very little in the way

of paperwork and...

...castle artefacts.

I think it's important
that we preserve as much

as we can for future generations.

This is going to be, um, displayed
in my little history nook as I'm now

calling it, in the hallway.

Everybody who goes up to the chapel
will then... has the opportunity

to see this stuff.

And it's a really good record
for everybody to realise

about the history.

I like to think that when Rob
and I aren't here

that we have left
a little bit of legacy, really.

The castle itself clearly
has been unloved for a long time,

and I feel really proud
that we have been able to even

just - even if we stop now -
to have accomplished

what we've accomplished.

For Tracey and Rob, the fourth
custodians of Culdees Castle,

this simple collection of artefacts,
framed and hung in the hallway,

will say so much.

I never dreamt I would own a castle.

That feeling of responsibility
is really, really deep.

I find it really emotional
to be part of that whole journey.

I really... It really pulls
at emotional strings

that I didn't know I had.

400 miles away in South Wales,
at Clement Wood Manor,

David and Faye are hard at work
creating a fabulous

Art Deco cinema room.

With the flooring laid,

joiner Barney is building
a stud wall.

I'll show you how to take
this to bits as we go along. OK.

Meanwhile, Faye and her mum's other
half, Barry, are looking

to re-upholster the 1920s
cinema seats.

The old moths have had a ball
on these.

There used to be a light
behind there to allow customers

to see where they were going.
Yeah.

I would never have known
that either.

Oh, well, there you go. I would
have never have known that.

That's what age does for you, kiddo.

There's plenty that can be done
to restore these pieces

to their original splendour,
and they're in safe hands.

We'll take that off.

Retain the number, because that's
a legacy.

Luckily for Faye, 84-year-old Barry
was an apprentice furniture restorer

in his 20s.

That just needs a clean up.

Despite some inevitable wear
and tear, Barry believes

the 100-year-old pieces are in good
shape.

That is a solid piece of wood,
and it will last as long as you want

it to. One day, well, I'll sit up
there with popcorn

and watch a movie.
THEY LAUGH

There you go. Perfect.

Faye's first job is to remove
the moth-eaten fabric...

...ready for re-upholstering.

Oh. That's all right.

Slowly does it.

Under Barry's watchful eye.

Barry and I have two very different
approaches.

Barry's slow and steady
and meticulous, and I am,

"Come on, let's get it done."

There's some things you can't rush.

This is one of them.

HE LAUGHS

It's one of those things -
you save on materials,

but you spend on time.

The fact that we don't have a huge
amount of money means

that we have got to be a bit smarter
when it comes to repurposing

and reusing things.

After a few hours, they can finally
see what lies beneath.

You can see that it's all perished
and it's coming off on the back

of the fabric.

The modern materials inside suggest
it's not the first makeover

these chairs have seen.

See at one time, they'd have used
good old horsehair for that.

But the good news is there's
nothing which can't be fixed.

It has deteriorated a bit,
so I think maybe we just work out

if we need to replace it.

The foam is not
going to be expensive, so actually

it doesn't really matter too much.

It will take some effort to get
them in perfect condition,

but after surviving a century,
Faye knows the least these chairs

deserve are her time and patience.

Of all the people that have sat
on these chairs over the years...

You know, I love that. Whose
lives have kind of crossed

over with this thing?

At what point in history? Like,
I really, really love that.

There's a good book in there.

But while Faye's romanticising
the past, David's mind

is in the future.

We're going to need to bring
that wall forward

to accommodate for them.

He's decided to splash out
on a state-of-the-art sound system.

One of the keys for whole room
and space for me is amazing

sound, amazing picture.

Once you turn the lights
off, you're not

going to see anything else.

Not sure Faye would agree
there, David.

We will have gone over budget.
How much were they?

It was about £200 over budget,
which I think for the amount

that we're getting in here...

Oh, my God, that's so annoying!

And we're not talking a couple
of speakers here.

How many?

14.

Are you serious?

You've gone over the top in terms
of how much we need, I think.

And now we're having to make
compromises on the design and style

because we've got so many speakers.

And it's a tough one for Barney
the joiner.

So if you're like, "I need the 14
speakers," and then you're like,

"Well, I want my cubbies
and I want my shelves and things..."

Until they can agree,

the final layout
can't be signed off.

It's working out which your
non-compromisable things are.

Yeah. You tend to worry about the
aesthetic space. Obviously.

And I tend to worry about the kind
of practicality and the purpose

of a space.

So we need to meet somewhere
in the middle. Without compromising

on a beautiful, luxury feel. And a
cocktail bar.

Or sending back any speakers.

Curtain up could still be some
way off.

inventive, adding some creative

I found these postcards from 1910,
so I'm going to stick them

on with wallpaper paste.

In Perthshire, Tracey keeps
a close eye on the joiner

hanging her castle history mementos.

Right? We need to decide what I
want where, really.

Mind the wallpaper.

And in South Wales, David
gets trigger happy coating

the soundboards for the cinema room.

Not the easiest thing in the world
to paint,

but, I mean, that's one done
out of 41.

Back in Northumberland...

And a new fuse, back together.

...where Joanne and Geoff are putting
in the miles renovating

their beloved Greystonedale.

1.7 miles, which I suppose is not
bad for walking around the house.

And we've still got a canny
few hours to go.

Their four-poster bed has now
been transformed with a paint job.

However, like the rest of this
nine-bedroom house,

the main bedroom was stripped of all
of its features, including original

doors and panelling.

Joanne and Geoff have trawled
salvage yards to find

suitable replacement doors.

I've stripped them all, because
they were all different colours,

and I'm going to oil them.

I found a load of handles from the
car boot fair. Five for a pound.

Which anybody who's doing
a Victorian houses will know

that door handles are just
a fortune.

With the first coat of oil done,

it's time to fit some door
handles that match the chinoiserie

theme of the room.

So I'm thinking, this looks
Chinesey.

To me it does, anyway.

Well, we can try them ones.

If I move round there and I'll hold
the back for you.

I can have a look. I'll pull that
there and then that gives you an

idea without actually screwing
them on.

So that's sorted.

Yeah. Beautiful. 20p.

While the missing doors were
replaced by actual period doors,

the missing wall panels
will need to be recreated.

We've bought some beading, so I
think we're going to have a go at

making a few panels up.

Geoff cuts length of batten
using a template, and fixes them

together to create the first
new panel.

It's going well.

I'm quite pleased with the,
uh, the little jig.

And I think the staples is so much
easier than the nails.

One panel - and it looks fine.

I think it's going to bring the wall
to life.

So we've only got, what,
two, four, six, eight...

...maybe 30 more to make.

And we're away.

A few weeks later, there's real
progress in the bedroom

transformation. With Geoff's
panelling almost done and some

of it painted,

they've also given a first coat
to the second-hand wardrobes,

and painted the panelling around the
window with black and gold

to match the bed frame.

And today, Joanne is adding detail
with a chinoiserie theme

very much in mind.

I found these postcards from 1910.

I had the lovely people
at the print shop along the road

blow them up and copy them for us.

So I'm going to stick them
on with wallpaper paste.

Then I'm going to get some teabags.

I'm hoping that the teabag water
will antique them a bit,

and then I'm going to glaze
over the top with a crackle varnish

so it looks like it's old.

I'm not a decorator.

I've got no skills whatsoever.

Absolute rubbish.

I've just got all the ideas
in my head.

Any of my friends will tell
you that I can talk the talk,

but I can't do anything.

But I have pushed my boundaries
in this house.

I have been decorating.

I have done things that I never
thought I would do.

I've been lifting stuff,
so I have been hands-on.

I think that looks good
against the gold.

That's as far as I can go, really.

But I love it now already,
so... I think it looks beautiful.

Beautiful is also the aspiration
in rural Perthshire

at Culdees Castle, where Rob
and Tracey are adding finishing

touches to the grand bridal stairway
that leads to their wedding chapel.

Tracey will be the first
bride to ascend these stairs

on her and Rob's wedding day,

now only a few short days away.

I am actually looking at the
countdown app on my phone now,

which is, um, filling me
with a little bit of anxiety.

Not about the wedding, but about
everything that has still got

to be done.

Rob and I have no chance of having
a honeymoon until...

...a month and a half? At least a
month and a half, yeah.

After we get married.
Because the weekend after we get

married, and the one after that,
and the one after that,

there's other weddings.

Today, Tracey is hanging her frames
that speak to the history

of the castle.

Joiner Steve is on hand as Rob's
fear of heights means the hallway

is a no-go area.

Rob won't do it.

Too much of a drop. You think
he'd be over that by now,

wouldn't you? I mean, I've had him
on the roof all week.

Right. We need to decide...

...what I want where, really?

Mind the wallpaper.

Hanging each work needs to be done
with the utmost care.

Left a bit.

What about if I come and hold
the end of it?

OK, I got it.

These are Rob and Tracey's old gas
receipts, mounted and ready

to be displayed.

This castle has got a lot of history
that not a lot of people know about,

so it was really, really lovely
to find bits and bobs,

considering how derelict
the building is.

Tracey has also mounted some
fragments from the old chapel

before it was renovated.

This is actually part of the chapel.

This was all over the walls
and it was the mural that went

round the original chapel.

So I think it's quite important
to keep it.

With new custodians, Rob and Tracey,

it's fair to say Culdees
Castle is in safe hands.

Less than a year ago, this hallway
was filled with temporary stairs

to access the chapel.

It's going to be the longest trudge
up there in a wedding dress.

Today, thanks to Tracey's
vision and Rob's hard graft,

with the help of their crew
and experts, the hall and stairs

is an entrance any bride and groom
will be happy to ascend.

I'm absolutely
in love with my hallway.

And what impresses me is that for
60-odd years, it was a pile

of rubble, and now it's a real
corridor...

...fit for a castle in less than a
year.

The gorgeous wallpaper is inspired
by Culdees' gardens and is framed

by Tracey's moulding design.

I think it really adds the character
to the room.

I like the way it's all
followed up the stairs.

The artist's rendering of the castle
from throughout its 200-year

storied history now include
the present lord and lady

of the castle.

All a glorious tribute to Culdees
Castle's past and present

inhabitants.

Looks grand enough for a wedding
now, doesn't it? Yeah.

So the next time we go up there,
we'll be getting married.

With only their final preparations
left before the big day,

let's hope the 200-year-old castle
doesn't have any

last-minute wobbles.

Back in South Wales, where the big
event on the horizon for Faye

and David is the premiere
of their Art Deco cinema.

Will, have you got those screws
there, mate? Yeah.

Earlier in the week, David's
purchase of 14 speakers for the loft

was met with resistance
by Faye's artistic vision.

I think it is 11 speakers in total.

But it seems a slight compromise
has been made.

It's going to be a loud, uh, a loud
room, yeah.

It's going to be cool, though.

David wants to see if his master
plan for a home cinema is viable.

I just wanted to get up here,
test some of the speakers.

Just check that the amp's
all good to go.

Having completed all the wiring,
electrician Gareth has got his eyes

on an invitation to the opening
night.

I hope I got a ticket, yeah.

But now the power's on,

hooking up the amplifier to test
the system may not be as simple

as the pair first thought.

Does it not just turn itself off?

I can't enter that code.

Is that going to give me a signal?

Right. What have I got going
in where?

That one at the moment...

It's a weird one.

Do you know what? We might have to
knock this on the head.

I could have definitely
done with maybe

reading up a bit before I started.

So I think we might just get
the manual out and see

what I'm meant to do.
Ah, the good old manual.

Glad to see I'm not the only
one who never reads it.

With David and Gareth at a loss,
Faye's popped upstairs with a sample

of the acoustic sound board
they'll be installing on the walls.

It's really hard to tell, isn't it,
with a little bit?

Faye's not sure if there's a right
way or a wrong way to hang them.

Yeah, I'm just trying to work out
which way it's going to go.

I don't know if it.., I don't know.
It's going to cover the whole apex.

I did worry about it being overkill,
if I'm honest.

Not the pattern. I think the pattern
is awesome.

I think it does depend
on what the lengths are like,

because I'm sure that one way
will be a lot easier than the other

in terms of fitting it.

What are you saying, Dave?

Got some carpet samples.
Oh, carpets.

Faye is still deciding on the colour
scheme, but is leaning to a blue

and gold combo.

You're going to be looking
for that sort of finish

with your chairs as well.
It's going to have that.

It's going to be quite matt.

That feels nicer.

Yeah.

This family space has been important
to get right, but the budget has run

away from them.

It's going to be an amazing space,
but the reality is pretty much most

of the budget has gone on this room.

That's fair, isn't it?

So we're just having to be more
creative in all the other spaces.

A few days later, and David
is getting creative

in the yard outside.

Today, he's spray painting
the acoustic sound boards

for the cinema room.

Fingers crossed, we should be able
to get it all sprayed

and looking tidy.

I think there's 42 of them,
so, yeah, it's going to be fun.

David is pushing ahead with
the cinema before the day job

pulls him away.

After today, I'm downing tools.

I'm over at Glastonbury,
so there won't be any more input

from me here for at least
three weeks till I'm back

from... from the summer job.

Sounds fun, but it's not a jolly.

As festival caterers, David and Faye
rely mainly on the summer festival

season to support them for the rest
of the year

and fund their ongoing renovations.

We're also getting to the end
of budget, so hopefully we can get

a little bit more money
in the coffers as well, just to get

those last finishing touches
that we really want to make

the room special.

I think I'm ready to spray.

These panels are designed to stop
sound waves bouncing off the walls,

which can lessen clarity.

So in a space with a pitched roof,
they'll help David's speakers

deliver perfect sound.

They're looking cool already.

It's not the easiest thing
in the world to paint.

But, I mean, that's one done
out of 41.

But let's see how it goes.

Art Deco cinema sees a special guest
screen one of his own films.

Oh, this is awesome.

Back in Northumberland, where Joanne
and Geoff's bedroom renovation edges

closer to completion.

Finish this room. We're going
to paint the floor.

Build the bed back up that's been
painted. Yeah.

With their dramatic black ceiling,
Geoff's panels painted a bold jade

green and their salvaged
radiators fitted,

Joanne's hoping to tie it all
together with the perfect wallpaper,

which wasn't cheap.

I had to hold your hand
while you paid for it,

didn't I, Geoffrey?
It was a bit of a shocker.

Some things you have to spend
money on, and I just love it.

And it was perfect colour.

While £150 a roll is expensive,
they have saved a small fortune

with the rest of the room.

Today, they're fitting
a ceiling rose.

Woohoo! First leaf's up.

Yes. I'm loving it.

Ceiling roses usually come in one
circular piece, but this one is made

up of 17, and each one needs
to be fixed separately

to create the pattern.

The ceilings downstairs are so
amazing, I felt it needed a bit

of a wow factor on the ceiling.

When I saw that and I thought,
"That is so unusual."

So, with some strong adhesive
screws for extra security...

...and with Geoff's careful
measuring...

A little bit further out. There?
Yeah.

...it's not long before the ceiling
rose is complete.

It's a work of art, really,
isn't it?

It's beautiful.

Once it's all cleaned up and it's
all painted around it again,

it's going to look really good.

With the bedroom inching closer
to completion, Joanne

has been searching in packing
boxes for finishing touches.

My dad's brother was a sea captain,
and when I was a little girl,

he used to bring us back dolls
from all the countries he visited.

My favourite is a Japanese doll.

And that's possibly where I got my
lifelong love of oriental things.

There she is.

She's going to be the perfect
addition to my oriental room.

Now the treasured finishing
touches are dusted off,

it's finally the moment Joanne
and Geoff have been waiting for.

When they started work
on the bedroom, it was just an empty

shell with bare walls and floors
and original features ransacked.

But now, after months of hard
graft...

...their dream bedroom is complete.

Looking good, isn't it?
Looks absolutely amazing.

With the four-poster bed frame
taking centre stage, the handmade

panelling, dramatic paint colours
and bold touches blending seamlessly

with Joanne's Chinese-inspired
details.

The whole thing's turned
out really well.

I think better than expected,
I think.

I just love all the elements
of the room.

And I've loved, like, dressing it.

What's your favourite?

I like the ceiling,
the ceiling rose.

Well, I've got to be biased
because I put the ceiling rose up.

And when you think that this whole
room possibly costs £1,500

altogether, including £1,000 on
wallpaper, that is just an amazing

thing to think.

Using her eye for a bargain,
Joanne has pulled

off an incredible transformation.

The mirror and the sideboard
was £100.

The French side tables with bombe
drawers were £80,

I think.

The bed was free. The bed was free
from my old boss.

£10 chandelier. £10 chandelier.

Overall, I think we've done very
well again. Yeah.

And her treasured doll collection
gets pride of place.

I've put them on here... together.

It's my final little touch
for the room.

Safe to say it's all come
together rather nicely.

The only bad thing is

I keep coming in and daydreaming and
dreaming that I'm Madame Butterfly.

And don't get on with my work.

If you ask me, I think you deserve
a moment to dream.

The house looks happy,

when it looked really sad
before when you looked at it.

Because at one time it was going to
get knocked down and there was

uproar about it being demolished.

Work is never quite finished with
such an epic renovation as this,

but the last six months have seen
Joanne and Geoff completely

transform the sitting room,

annexe...

...and bedroom.

We've done all right, haven't we?
We've done amazing.

300 miles away in Wales,
with carpet laid, storage built

and sound boards installed,

Faye and David's cinema room
is almost ready for its close-up.

The cinema room is so close
to being finished, so all

we need to finish
now is the light boxes.

There's a few tiny bits of cabinetry
that need to be finished, so there's

about two more days.

That's it.

Today, they're re-upholstering
their reclaimed cinema seats.

So we took everything apart.

Um, so we've got new foam
and new fabric, so we're going

to attach them - hopefully -
to the seats.

And to help them out,

Faye's cast her most reliable
extras.

Mum Dorothy is on sewing duty.

Hang on. Is that the curve bit
there?

Is that on the wrong way? I don't
know.

That definitely looks baggy, though.

Yeah, but you stretch it.
When you put it on, you stretch it.

But the corners aren't
going to stretch beyond...

Do you know what I mean?
They'll be fine.

While they make the seats plush,

Mum's partner Barry
is refreshing its design.

There was a really beautiful
detailing on one side

and unfortunately it's the wrong
side, so it would be hidden.

So we were trying to work
out how to replicate that.

Barry has managed to recreate
it in fibreglass, so that is super

exciting that he's managed
to pull that off.

A week later, and Faye and David
have finally wrapped

on their Art Deco-inspired
cinema room.

Look at this.

Over the last 12 weeks,
they've transformed

what was an unusable loft
space into a show stopper.

This is my favourite room.

Absolutely amazing.
Yeah, I love it.

Me, too.

I don't think that we had a plan
or a layout when we first started,

and that is definitely
a learning curve.

We had a room with no windows...

Yeah. ..which was empty.

That was all we really started with.

I mean, it's mind-blowing.

Faye and David have created
a cosy family space

with a little added sparkle.

Quirky Art Deco features
offset the rich blue

and gold palette perfectly.

I'm buzzing for how the cinema
seats have turned out.

You were like, "Right, OK,
we can work the rest

"of the room out to match the
chairs."

That's exactly it. I think the most
successful thing here is this bit.

Barry has reproduced the gorgeous
design.

So they now bookend the reclaimed
cinema seats.

He's built a wooden... wooden
template and

then a fibreglass imprint
from the other side.

So they match perfectly
with the ones at the other side.

Smashed it.

Beneath the glamorous facade
lies a good foundation

of quality craftsmanship.

Can I just say - I think the
panelling looks incredible.

With the help of their carpenter,
Barney, they've been able to include

secret drawers, hidden tech
and complicated lighting.

The light box is a kind of three
different inlays of wood,

so there's different depths.

So all of those things working
in a house

where nothing's quite straight.

They've even managed to conceal
the speakers Faye

was so worried about.

Well, we've hidden a few,
but you've got six on the sides,

two on the back...

...two under the step
and three at the front.

In a tiny room for six people.

It's going to sound pretty good.

The cinema room is their relaxing
family retreat from the renovation.

And tonight, Faye and David
have a special guest...
