I want her to be happy with her choice

that she's made herself,

and not a choice that Karen has made for her.

We just keep getting further behind.

back an entire month.

I doubt they'll stick around at this point.

That means I'm gonna be stuck paying two mortgages even longer,

which is just really gonna drain my budget.

I need to find out what's going on

because this terrifies me.

I auditioned for NYU singing program,

and I'm feeling a little nervous waiting to hear back.

I'm leaving it in God's hands.

[Darian] So, I've booked a time to go take a tour of UNLV.

And I want you guys to come with me,

but under one condition.

[Darian] Honestly, I don't even know if I wanna go to college,

but it's been stressful knowing my parents

have been at odds about my college applications.

So, I just wanna explore my options,

and try to keep the peace between both of them.

and seeing what's out there.

[Deon] Darian going to college is totally her choice and decision,

but secretly, I am hoping that Darian decides

to stay home and go to UNLV.

We're moving on up.

-We're trying to move on in. -Move on in. Yes.

And so we just got the flooring and cosmetics.

But the thing is,

since we've now lost renters for this house,

between the mortgage here and the mortgage there,

like, one of these mortgages got to go.

-This house got to get rented. Period. -Okay.

[Deon] So I found a new family who's interested in moving in here.

But we have to get out of here

because they wanna move in by the first of the month.

It has been extremely stressful,

and very exhausting financially,

juggling needs two mortgages.

So at this point, we have to move in this house,

no matter what the condition is.

We cannot risk losing the new renter for our old house,

by pushing our move-in date back.

But what if the other house isn't ready?

We're gonna have to be in that sucker like it is.

-Oh! [sighs] -[Deon] Karen...

God knows, you know, I don't want to be in that other house

having to do any type of major work while we're in there.

I'm working on getting our beautiful family into that house.

That's my job.

The new house has seriously drained the budget,

but I'm finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

And while I am very hopeful that the carpet comes in,

I can't put my faith in nothing right now.

I have to see it done.

If this is what we've got to deal with, we'll deal with it.

Today, me and Darian, is gonna take

the younger five over to the park.

I seem to be having

a few good days here and there now.

And I wanna really jump in

and take advantage of however many I get.

On a day like today, I get why GG quit her chemo.

I'm going over here and sit down.

It made her feel so sick all the time.

And so, it makes me grateful and happy

to see her out here enjoying herself like this.

It's all about this.

And as you know, they love me,

I don't want my grandchildren to...

their last memories of me to be of this.

I want them to remember me

as the vibrant grandmother

I've always been to them.

but I don't want it to be this day,

or tomorrow,

or the next day.

I wanna be here for a while.

that's the area of fear.

but she's actually causing more stress

because I'm still concerned about her situation.

The fear that I have, the anxiety,

about my mother's health.

to make sure that all of our students have the connections

in the industry that they wanna be in

to be as successful as they wanna be, you know?

that students come here to practice, like pop, R&B?

You have a lot of jazz majors

and a lot of opera singers come here.

What's really cool is you get to take classes with everybody.

An opera singer might work with an, like, an R&B singer?

desperately trying to get our carpet installed within a week or so.

My mind is racing as I prepare to open the letter

'cause I'm thinking about my mom.

She's gonna be so excited if I get in.

She wants me to have that experience of being in New York.

And I think touring UNLV, it made me realize

that NYU is my dream school.

Like, I... [exhales] I-- I just--

I'm just excited to see what they have to say.

[Karen] You know, this has been a long time waiting,

between her putting in the application, auditioning

and getting here to the decision.

The admissions committee at N-- New York University

has carefully considered your application and supporting credentials

for all programs in which you expressed interest on your application.

that we are unable to offer you admission to NYU this year."

I didn't get in.

I... I felt awesome about my audition.

But this rejection letter, it just makes me feel like I'm not good enough.

Your talent don't stop because of a letter.

It makes me rethink all of my choices, and I'm just like... [sighs]

[Deon] You just relax.

I am so proud of you for going on this journey.

I don't want her to look at it like a rejection.

I want her to look at it like a redirection.

It's redirecting her to exactly where she's supposed to be.

I think my biggest concern is knowing how to get her to overcome this.

You know, teenagers, they lack understanding

that life will give you something that appears to be bad...

-Mm-hmm. -...that will wind up being for your better good.

I wanna make sure that we all work together to build her confidence.

And I wanna make sure she doesn't have a fear of not being good enough.

-Amen, baby. -Because I can say that I, honest to God,

learned from this whole ordeal

that I need to be communicating

with the spouse and the family, our team,

-and not trying to spearhead it on my own. -[Deon] Yeah.

To look at the support that I have and come and talk and say,

"Hey, this is what I see." And I was beating myself up

'cause I felt like God was like... [sniffles]

"Look, this girl is talented,

and this is for you to let her be that vessel."

I don't know. I just felt like this pressure from me, myself.

You can be comfortable with yourself still,

-knowing as her mother... -[Deon] You had her back.

As painful as rejection is and feels, it's part of life.

And growing up, I just know that in the end,

things will work out for her best.

I promise you, this does not come in a manual.

because we're doing this for our barbecue picnic.

I remember being a child and watching GG

make these Whatupdoe beans and just the smell

and knowing the aroma throughout the house

and knowing that it was being shared

at our family barbecues.

It was the best.

Having so many children,

So Denver is the youngest of the twins.

And he's the tallest. Oh, my God!

Last couple months though,

Our triplets are 4.

They'll be 5 in July, so it's a perfect mesh.

For me, it's great seeing our children

that you and I had growing up,

going over at our neighbor's house

and hanging out, playing, having fun.

and all of them with college degrees.

not getting into NYU would hurt.

I was hoping to at least have a choice.

Now I just want to think about and reevaluate my next steps

because I don't know if I want to commit to college

or UNLV or anything at all right now.

Um, well, I'm gonna just continue to do

what I'm doing on social media.

Put myself out there, get my name out there

and still look up like opportunities

for me to showcase my singing.

Oh, baby, I don't know about that.

I mean, doing the gig is good.

The social media is good,

but you have to do more than that.

So this is something we're going to definitely discuss later.
