And then I did stick to writing

told me there wasn't enough
of an audience for it.

I was always too gay, or I was too niche.

Or, you know, I made people uncomfortable.

Even my dad,
who was so wonderful and supportive,

I remember him saying,

"You know, not everyone wants to hear
this gay stuff all the time."

But what was I supposed to do?

I mean, I'm a writer.

I wanted to write about my life,

enough people tell you things like that,

that maybe they're right.

and there are seven
completely naked gay men on stage.

And there I am, sitting between
my mom and dad at age 12,

And I remember this so vividly,
