In prison, there are codes.

It's kind of like a ranking of crimes

that are more or less acceptable
to the prison population.

And if a crime is too serious, too ugly,

you are doomed, as they say.

If someone is doomed
at the level that I was doomed,

it's the leader's responsibility
to kill them if given the chance.

All the prisoners wanted to kill me.
So did half the guards.

Which I think is a normal reaction.

But not once did I feel more in danger

than the countless times
I found myself in danger in the cult.

The intensity of being in prison
didn't come close

to the intensity
of being enslaved within a cult.

The seven members of the cult
detained in Santiago jails

are under permanent protection
from possible attacks in prison.

It was a horrifying, inconceivable event,

worse than any crime we've ever reported.

According to the PDI, it's the first time
there has been a human sacrifice in Chile.

the end of the world.

The crime is so awful

that nobody wants to look beyond that.

This was not a crime of passion.

where you kill to steal a car.

This was a crime to save the world.

because people tend not to understand
how bad it really is.

what makes people commit crimes.

And in this case in particular,
when it comes to cults,

one of the things that interested me
the most when I first started the case

was the motive.

The motive was to save the world.

That's when you say, "This is delirium,
a story I should look into."

I'd never been as happy in my life

as when I joined the cult.

to serve this higher good.

To serve the light, love,
to cleanse the whole world.

They took me in.
They accepted me for who I was.

And I'd never belonged to anything before.

We didn't have the know-how.
We didn't know how to investigate a cult.

What allowed us
to investigate the Colliguay cult

was the ayahuasca
trafficked from Peru to Chile.

Then everything changed
when we found out there'd been a murder.

Tests were carried out
confirming human bones.

We'll wait for the DA
and begin due diligence.

A horrific homicide.

In April 2013,

I got a call
from the Santiago Metropolitan Prosecutor,

notifying me of a big case
that was going to be transferred

to the Quilpué Prosecutor's Office.

I was told I'd get more information
from the police leading the case,

which was the Investigations Police.

Santiago Police had started
the investigation in late 2012.

They had determined
there were human remains

in Colliguay that pretty much matched

the primary information
we had about that cult.

The prosecutor immediately granted us
an arrest warrant

for the members of the Colliguay cult.

This case has affected me the most
in terms of

human brutality.

Do you regret it?

Do you regret belonging to a cult?

It was a challenge for us.

How do we deal
with something unprecedented?

In particular, it was up to me
to interview the youngsters.

And it was truly very complex.

I was a very solitary guy.

And all of a sudden,
I found myself with a family,

instantly,

with people who loved me
and wanted me there.

Pablo was a very happy kid,

very connected to nature.

He was really happy
until he started school...

Pablo had a fatal combination
of traits in elementary school.

He was small, had braces and glasses,
and didn't like soccer.

I mean, come on.
He was the perfect target for bullies.

I spent my days drawing. I liked studying.

I got good grades.

Fuck, I was an easy target, man.

I thought it was unfair.

It made me so angry.
I didn't understand why I was bullied.

I didn't know then what I know now.

I was really upset, frustrated,

with a lot of emotions
I didn't know how to handle.

By the time I was about 18,
I was depressed, you know?

Eventually, toward the end of high school,

I stopped trying to fit in at school
and began looking for friends elsewhere.

I couldn't wait to leave school.

And when I finally did, I went to college.

I discovered music.

I sang in a band.

I realized, "Wow, music is good for me."
I fell in love with it.

Little by little, I started to have
more normal relationships.

I started dating.

I began to have true friends.

Until finally,
I met the mother of my oldest son.

He is now 16 years old.

I found out I was going to be a dad at 23

and became a dad at 24.

People think that being 24
means you are an adult.

My ID said I was an adult.

But emotionally, I was not.

I looked at myself and said,
"You know what? I'm a mess."

"I have to sort myself out."

"I want to be good for my son,

and I want the world
to be good for my son," you know?

Climate change, deforestation,

accelerated population growth...

Two hundred fourteen people were arrested...

...troops ordered to be ready.

Is that the World Trade Center?

They say a plane crashed!

I started to believe
in everything that was offered to me.

I did Reiki, I began going to temascals,
I started reading Buddhism,

anything that wasn't Catholic.

And one day, my Reiki master said,
"I've got the perfect workshop for you."

"In fact, it's pretty close
to your house."

So I went, not knowing what it was,
and I met Antares.

Before he was Antares de la Luz,

his name was Ramón Castillo Gaete.

A working-class kid from Peñalolén
who played ball,

had friends in the neighborhood,
rode a bike,

tutored kids in a town in Lo Hermida,

and was committed
to political and social causes.

A youngster who studied music.

He loved Andean music.

He was in a band called Amaru.

And he was a pretty good musician.

He was excellent at the clarinet,
the saxophone, and the charango.

I really admired that Ramón in Antares.

He had the ability to tune into
other people's needs and help them.

From a very young age,
Ramón Castillo Gaete

began experiencing body pain.

The pain left him immobile,
made him suffer a lot,

and kept him awake at night.

He told me the pain was so bad
he'd rather be dead.

He said he was going to take ayahuasca

because he'd taken it once,
two years before, and it had helped.

I mean, it was two or three hours
that he didn't feel any pain.

And to him, that was incredible.

Ramón Castillo turned up at my house once,
like many other people.

SHAMAN

Back then, I'd hold
weekly ceremonies at my place.

He came to my house
looking for medicine, as many others did.

We held a ceremony.

Ramón was here,

the master of ceremonies there.

I shut my eyes.

And from where I knew Ramón was sitting,

I began to feel a lot of light.

There are thousands of plants
in the jungle.

Each plant has medicine.

Each plant has a spirit.

And ayahuasca is like a synthesis
of that entire world,

having a little bit
of each of those plants out there.

In a way,
they are incorporated into two plants,

chacruna and ayahuasca.

And how you cook them
is the trick to attaining wisdom.

It has a lot of purposes,

but healing is the main one,
along with awareness.

After taking the medicine a few times,

he said he didn't feel comfortable
with us calling him Ramón.

He preferred we call him Antares.

Look, ayahuasca
can evidently help you in many ways,

but a very direct way
is making you aware of yourself.

Ramón Castillo
called himself Antares de la Luz

in reference to the brightest star
of the Scorpio constellation.

He and his partner at the time
and a friend,

who we could say were his first followers,

went to a gathering called Rainbow.

And there, he met people
who were on a similar journey.

I was super open...

...super receptive.

Of course, with what I was experiencing,
I saw three beings.

One was Ramón, with a really long beard,

sitting on a rock
in the middle of the river.

They said, "Sit with us and meditate."

"I'll teach you meditation."

He teaches me meditation,

and it was like, "Wow, what the heck?"

"What's this I'm feeling?"

It was the second time
he'd visited the Rainbow Community.

And, well, he came with two people.

And he began creating this group
that meditated with him.

I remember there was
a river there, a big river.

One day, I was walking along the river,
and I saw them all meditating.

I walked over.

And that was the key moment
where we all felt closeness.

I felt something inside me,
something that you can't understand.

Antares de la Luz was a magnetic guy.

And his magnetism
was due to several reasons.

First and foremost, his appearance.
He was pretty tall.

He had an imposing build.

His presence was impressive.

He was very different from the rest.

With the voice of a master,
the stance of a master,

the beard of a master,

the bald head of a master.

His confidence

in the philosophy he was into
gave you that same confidence.

I was in love with him.

I wasn't with him
because he asked me to be,

but because I felt so much love.

Antares came with other people
who also had powers,

people who were already more advanced.

They were like "superiors."

My Reiki master was there,
and also another Reiki master.

There were these guys that I felt
were heavyweights, you know?

And they all looked up to Antares
with great reverence.

He was 100% the incarnation
of my idea of a master.

He had a lot of knowledge
that he'd studied and memorized.

And he'd turned that into a pastiche
or spiritual collage.

He talked a lot about Carlos Castaneda,

the Mayan prophecy...

...and about Viracocha.

Any question that you,
as an attendee at a seminar, might ask

was met by a very attractive person.

And the answer would always be
a certain quote.

It would always have
some kind of special content

and a source of information.

Carlos Castaneda.

The Teachings of Don Juan,

an icon during the hippy era

in the United States.

Carlos Castaneda was a guru
of US counterculture.

He was a source of inspiration
for cinema directors, writers, musicians.

He was very influential at that time.

CARLOS CASTANEDA'S VOICE

Ramón, just like any other human being,
read and kept reading.

And Ramón says that his purpose in life...

was helping people.

JANUARY 2009

Five minutes after starting the workshop,
I was totally into it.

Those were the tools I was looking for.

It was an awakening of your inner self,

the Activation of Chakras
and Inner Self Workshop.

He made you sit down in lotus position

and gave you a guided meditation.

We had to imagine walking down some stairs
and reaching a door.

Imagine a descending stairway.

We reach a door.

I'm going to put a box
on your left-hand side.

"In that box, there is a golden key.
Pick up the key."

"Use the key to get to a door
at the bottom of that staircase."

Open the door.

Go in.

"You're now in a space,
the space where your inner self lives."

Try to hug your inner self.

I felt as though I was hugging a body

and was flooded
with a sense of liberation.

He always insinuated

that the answer to all questions
was in working with your inner self.

And being able to reach those answers
depended on how disciplined you were,

on how willing you really were
to find the truth.

I felt as though I was on the brink
of true knowledge.

Profound truths, deep truths.

Answers to existence.

I thought, "This may be the answer
to why I've been depressed for so long."

I began to feel better.

I'd been dating Pablo Undurraga
for a year.

EXCERPTS FROM INVESTIGATION FILE

That relationship was pure torture.

I hated the fact that he smoked marijuana.

We broke up and were separated
for three months.

I started hanging out with Pablo again,

and he told me that he'd been
to a self-healing seminar

that had really helped him,
and he no longer felt stressed.

PABLO'S APARTMENT

In a way, Pablo was a magnet or a nexus

among his friends or loved ones
to join the cult.

He invited David Pastén
to live at his home,

an apartment he had
on Los Militares street.

I saw huge changes in his behavior.

EXCERPTS FROM INVESTIGATION FILE

I mean, I witnessed
how much he admired Antares.

David Pastén introduced him
to his girlfriend, Pilar.

This formed a group of people
surrounding him

who were all Pablo's friends.

My life was improving, you know?

I wanted my best friend
to benefit from it too,

for my girlfriend and everyone
to find this tool that was real.

Pablo has this awakening process

and becomes
one of the most disciplined soldiers.

The awakening was a turning point.

It was the point
when someone really joined the group.

The awakening is the moment
you find out that Antares is

the incarnation of God.

That Antares's inner self is God.

JUNE 2009

He brought us all together at one point.

There were about ten of us
doing the meditation sessions.

He told us he had some news,
something he wanted us to see.

I remember we started to drink
some ayahuasca, just a little.

And we meditated.

Just before the workshop,
Antares told me, "Sit in the back."

"Just take the energy
you know I'm going to channel to you,

and today, your inner self
will tell you its name."

I go to my inner self.

Everyone is doing the exercise,
and Antares walks across the room.

My eyes are closed, and Antares tells me,

"Now ask him who I am."

I remember seeing a huge being

kind of emanating energy in the room.

And when he said,

"Do you know who I am?"

it was like... we all wanted to tell him,
but nobody wanted to say it.

Something split open in my mind.

And I began to see
a lot of consecutive visions,

each of them very intense.

They were like two
or three-second flashes of certain times,

with different clothes, ages,
and scenarios.

I saw many suicides.

I saw lots of feelings,

as if my neck broke, as if my arms broke,

and a lot of anguish and sorrow.

A lot of pain, a lot of shame.

And after all this
kind of cascade of images,

I finally see some sort of biblical scene.

There was a crowd of people.

At the center of this crowd
was someone with their back to me.

And this person was glowing.

That person turned around,

and he had Antares's face.

His posture was everything
that I associated with the image of Jesus.

The workshop ended,

and Antares said to me,
"So, what did your inner self tell you?"

I said, "It showed me a lot.
I'm processing it. Tell you later."

I'd agreed to drive Antares
back to the house he was staying at.

I was quiet all the way.

I walked him to the doorway,
and he said, "Now."

And I asked,
"Hey, Antares, are you Jesus?"

His face changed. His expression changed.

He turned very serious,
very stern, and said,

"Pablo, sit down
and tell me what you saw."

I told him everything I just told you.

"The truth is, yes, I am Jesus."

"But I am Jesus

in the sense that Jesus
was an incarnation of God."

"The thing is, Pablo, I am God."

"Do you have any doubt that I am God?"

"No. I just saw you are God."

"So it seems to me I know you are God."

And, fuck, I burst into tears.

Antares tells me, "Pablo, don't worry."

"This thing that just happened to you
is your awakening."

"You just awoke
to the truth of what is going on."

"I have incarnated many times."

"The purpose of some of those incarnations
has been to teach."

"When I was Jesus, I came to teach."

"When I was Buddha,
when I was Krishna, I came to teach."

"In this incarnation,
I didn't come to teach."

"In this incarnation,
I came to defeat darkness."

In the years prior to 2012,

information began to circulate
through social media, through Google,

through unofficial channels, let's say,

that the end of the world was near.

According to the ancient Mayan calendar,

December 21st, 2012
will be the end of the world.

December 2012,

the day of no dawn.

Will the world end
like the ancient cultures foreshadowed?

He began to reveal this context.

The real context, the context

in which I had been called to help.

There was a battle
between light and darkness,

and this battle was near its end.

And that end was December 21st, 2012.

Imagine a person whose self-esteem
has been so badly eroded,

then this guru
suddenly comes along and says,

"You will save the world."

I decided to believe him.

I thought I saw it,
and then I decided to act on it.

So they probably thought
that they'd seen it as well.

Some earlier, others later,

decided that they had to follow him.

When I awakened, Antares told me,

"You just joined
the most exclusive club in the world."

"Be prepared because this club
isn't about having fun."

"It's about hard work."

His tone changed.

He went from being this very parsimonious,
focused, and soft-spoken master

to speaking very harshly.

"The first thing you need to know
is that I'm not here to ask for favors."

"I give orders."

Well, the guy speaking to me was God.
So I said, "Sure, give me orders."

I received a lot of orders
in the first two months,

but small orders, you know?

Always very close to the limit
of what someone is able to sacrifice.

For instance,

"I want you to delete all of your photos."

Photos with,

I don't know, my son's birth,
my son's childhood.

You know, my photos.

I had a small room in my apartment
where my son stayed.

He lived with me half the time.

And Antares says,
"Pablo, I'm moving in with you."

"Shit, Master Antares, I humbly understand
that you need somewhere to live,

but I have a responsibility to my son."

"And I think I have this son
for a reason. I believe that..."

"Who the hell
do you think you're talking to?"

"I'm not asking
for some kind of bullshit."

"I'm giving you an order."

"I'm informing you
that I'm going to live in that room."

"Remember, you are talking to God.
Mind your place."

There had been no physical violence
up till then.

But there was a lot of rage on his part.

A lot of exhaustion.

Like a challenge.

It was always like Ramón was,

not punishing me,
but rather challenging me.

As in, "You're not focused.
You're not meditating."

Deep down, Antares basically wanted
no one to question him.

They were to follow his instructions
with the discipline he demanded,

surrendering to him
all of their material possessions,

all that was dear to them,

and suppress their emotions.

Antares was our leader, our teacher,
our spiritual guide.

We were considered warriors

who had to fight our selves
to suppress our egos.

Therefore, we had to do
whatever he ordered,

even if we didn't want to.

There was this whole protocol
around living with him.

You couldn't talk directly to his face.
You couldn't touch him.

We had to read
all of Carlos Castaneda's books,

read certain parts of the Bible,

and stay away from
people who were "asleep."

We had to get rid of as many
material possessions as possible.

We had to shave our heads

because hair accumulates negative energy.

We could only wear colorful clothes,
nothing black.

I was forbidden to whistle.

I was never allowed
to whistle or sing again.

I obviously couldn't write music.
It was, "What the hell? You're recording?"

"You should be focusing
on helping me save the world."

He was building a path of warriors.

And each warrior had to become
more and more impeccable and relentless.

According to Castaneda's books,

a warrior was an extremely powerful being.

They were extremely powerful
because they had no ego,

because they had no attachments,

because they had
no superfluous earthly emotions.

They didn't self-sabotage based on
a morality constructed by society.

Once an action was decided,

we stopped questioning
whether it should be done or not.

Fuck, he was a beast.

There are three types of beings:
pure, impure, and dark.

Pure beings had always been in the light.

Impure beings had committed crimes
against the universal laws

dictated by God during creation.

And dark beings were beings
created by Lucifer, the Devil,

to go into an astral war.

He said that the mom of one of the girls
had a dark inner self.

I could see inside her eyes
were other, different eyes. Metallic.

I'd be talking with this person,

and at the same time, inside of me,

I was wrapping myself with my wings,
blocking attacks.

And I saw serpents of black energy
coming from her.

I pulled them out and shooed them away.

Then I felt something sticking to me.

The conversation was casual, and I...

So it was a state of absolute war,
constant war, you know?

Antares, at one point,

after taking ayahuasca,

he sees Pablo's cat and says she's cursed.

We were living at the apartment,
and my cat got pregnant.

So, Antares got really intense

and said, "Man, you think this is a game?"

"Who are the inner beings
of those kittens that are coming here?"

"Because this could easily be
an attack by Lucifer."

"The inner self of the cat
that impregnated Witch,

that cat's inner being could be Lucifer,

with the intention of bringing
the main five dark beings

to my house to attack me."

"So, let's see
what these kittens are, Pablo."

So he put my cat inside a Tupperware box.

Just as he put her in there,

I saw some kind of cloud of black energy
emanate from my cat.

I thought, "This shit is real!"
Her hair bristled while she shrunk.

She got furious.

He took me near the San Carlos Canal.

He got out of the car,

went to a bridge, and threw the Tupperware
with my cat into the river.

That was the first time
we had to kill a dark being.

In March 2010,

we decided to change
our place of residence and move to Olmué.

So we moved
from the city where my family lived

and went to live away from the city.

The explanation Antares gave us
to move away was that houses have power.

Therefore, the house we rented in Olmué
had more power than our former apartment.

That's when I was told that they wanted
to set up a healing center in Olmué.

In fact, that's when they asked me

if I could lend them the money
to pay a full year's rent

because it'd be cheaper.

One of the things that was part
of the path of the warrior

was the art of stalking,

which is basically a strategic lie
to achieve a greater good.

They presented me with a business plan,
brilliantly thought out.

It was a ruse.

In line with the obligation
of reading Castaneda's books,

we had to learn the art of stalking.

We had to "stalk"
everyone who was "asleep."

Like Neo in The Matrix,

we couldn't tell the truth
to whoever was "asleep."

How could we tell the truth?
They'd never understand.

The best thing we could do
for them to awaken eventually

was to trick them for their own good.

And they paid me punctually
because that was part of the plan.

When we started
living together in that house,

we considered ourselves to be a community.

We devoted our time to forming
the Calypso Production Company

in the audiovisual field.

We sold sushi
and organized self-healing seminars.

In the end, we were six or seven people,

all working to meet Antares's needs.

And Antares was not
a particularly hard worker.

Quite the contrary.

They had to tend to him.

Pablo had to take him out for walks.

He had to have massages all the time.

Antares never swept a floor,
never picked up a broom.

Antares never worked.

His job was to save humanity.

And he had the task
of taking on this darkness.

His job was bearing the pain
of carrying this darkness inside of him.

His job was to survive.

His job was not to die.

Such was their belief in the story
that they believed anything.

For six, seven, eight months,

I had believed I had to do
everything Antares said.

It's as if... I'd lost my will.

As if I didn't need to think
because someone else told me what to do.

And you'd say,
"What's my little brain for?"

"What's my heart for?"

"What's my will for?"

"Why am I free
if God tells me everything I have to do?"

FEBRUARY 2011

Pablo called me and said,

"In a ceremony,

he has to hit you three times
on a chakra."

"That will make you heal so much."

First, we shaved our heads.

And he said, "Take your clothes off."

So we took off our clothes.

And then, they gave us

three blows on the first chakra, here.

Three blows with a stick.

It obviously hurt.

More than fear, I felt guilt

because I felt I never did enough
to help Ramón.

It had the opposite results.

Instead of going back
to how he was before,

his distortion of reality magnified.

I'd think, "Wow, it's so crazy
someone could believe him in that state."

OCTOBER 2011

One day, he ordered me
not to ever see my son again.

"No more son in your life."

"I'm so sorry.
I know how much you love him."

"But there's only a year left till 2012."

"And your mission

as a servant of this crucial mission

requires your undivided attention."

"You're wasting too much energy
on your son. So, I'm sorry."

"I know it'll hurt."

"But... you'll have to find a way
to trick your son's mom."

"Give her some excuse...

to make it permanent."

"You must remove your son from your life."

"He can't turn up here anymore."

The kid was a sweetheart.

Pablo came by a lot.

Pablo saw him every fortnight.

He'd take him to Olmué.

Now, had I known
what was going on in Olmué,

my hair would've been on end,
but I didn't know.

There are no words
to describe such a degree of sorrow.

I think anyone with kids

would empathize with that.

It destroyed me.
It completely destroyed me.

I'd always wanted to be a dad.

And despite the fact that I was an idiot
and had a load of problems,

it was important for me to be a dad.

I was in a constant state
of religious ecstasy,

of absolute pain.

But it's the pain of a martyr.

"Damn, I lost it all, everything hurts,

but think of the long-term benefit."
You know?

So, in a weird way,

it was one of the moments
I was the happiest.

Moments I cried out of happiness.

Antares decided to move again.

This time, they had to rent
a house in Mantagua.

There, they held healing seminars.

Lots of people went,

but only a handful of them,
the ones chosen by Antares,

were allowed to spend time
intimately with the group.

They were the only ones
who could go in and out of the house.

There were moments of happiness
when they felt true ecstasy.

There are love stories embedded there.

Because Pablo was with Natalia,
David was with Pilar.

Therefore, there was a trend
of love relationships that were there.

It was like an adventure,

a spiritual journey started as a couple.

But Antares started to take control
even of those relationships.

During that time,
I ended my relationship with Pablo

because Antares told Pablo
that he had to give Carolina therapy.

And he fell in love with Carolina.

Antares ordered him to be with her
because she was his soul mate.

With regard to the relationships,

Antares hooked up
and broke up relationships as he saw fit

or to get rid of something
that was distracting his servants.

What Natalia had to do
was go through a pregnancy,

a pregnancy she didn't want.

We had to try
to tend to a natural childbirth

under an absurd level of stress.

A mom is obviously not going to relax
having a baby that way.

to take it out of me quick,

saying it was attacking him hard

and that it had two heads.

of having a contingency plan

for C-sections.

I said no.

I didn't have anything
to do a C-section with.

Antares insisted I cut her belly,

from the pain.

that if I did
what he was ordering me to do,

I would kill a light being.

And I was in a similar condition.

But all this didn't attract any attention.

I only had one thought.

I hoped they'd call the police
so I could tell them everything.

That could have been
the moment this whole thing ended.

But no, the story worked.

She gave birth at 6:31 in the morning.

He was more than three kilos and healthy.

She named him Jesús
because that's what Antares had said.

until the end of the world."
