Original subtitles

- Hi, I'm Kane Hodder.

Most people know me from being a killer in horror movies.

In fact, I maintain that I have murdered

more people on film than any actor in history.

And if you dispute that, I'll kill you.

One of the things I've always been curious about

is what happens to us when we die.

What's on the other side?

Does our spirit or our energy go elsewhere?

Are some of us trapped here?

Why are some locations so haunted

and other ones you never hear anything about?

These are questions that I've been hunting

for the answers to for 13 years.

That's what got me interested in the paranormal

in the first place, and that's what brought me here.

(eerie music)

- Balsam only has a population of 49.

The school is now used as a community center.

The train depot's long gone.

The Grand Old Lady is still here in Balsam.

It's 112 years old.

I think she's a giant, stoic structure,

originally built almost as a slap in the face.

I think that as beautiful as it is,

and as grand as it is, and as popular as it was,

I think that, honestly, from day one of this structure,

I mean, you've gotta think this land was taken

from the Native Americans.

Rutherford Trace came 200 yards in front of this building,

and then not only are we gonna take your property,

but we're gonna build this giant, grand structure

right in the center of it, you know,

it's almost like a direct slap in the face.

So I think that originally

it may not have had

the best energy to begin with.

This place has several layers of activity.

It's so tangible that you can almost literally separate it

into layers as to what was on the land before,

what came from the original structure,

what's military related, Native American related,

guest related, staff related, the residual,

just kind of hanging out railroad type of stuff going on.

There's a lot of activity here

and there's a lot of energy flow here,

it seems like there's not anywhere

in the building where you aren't passing

through some sort of energy.

- Well, I was told from the beginning when I,

in the process of purchasing,

but I kind of thought that it was a hidden agenda

that nobody wanted me to be here and purchase this property.

However, when I closed the deal and moved into the property,

being the skeptic, denied the presence of them,

and they introduced themselves to me very quickly.

- [Woman] Okay, so if it did move, it should move again,

'cause it's moved quite a bit.

Twice that I've seen.

- [Amanda] Yeah, so if it's real, it should continue

to do it. - Right, so it shouldn't

just stop because we're watching it.

It shouldn't just stop because we're watching it.

(unintelligible chatter)

- [Woman] Okay, so I saw something under,

oh, I'm shaking right now.

(woman gasps)

It's opening up. - The door just shut, okay.

No, no, no, they're both moving.

And so is that curtain, there has to be a breeze.

It has to be a breeze, see how that's moving.

- [Woman] But I saw the other door first underneath.

- [Woman] They move at the same time.

It's like one opens and one closes.

- [Woman] We seriously gotta get some door latches.

Like, this is absolutely crazy.

- [Woman] Okay, so, if this isn't just a breeze,

can you tell,

can you talk to us through the Ovilus?

- [Woman] It said famous, palace, Alice?

- [Woman] That door just opened and the other one did not.

Can you move just one door again?

- [Woman] Text.

- [Woman] Okay, so if this isn't just a breeze,

can you tell, can you talk to us through the Ovilus?

- [Woman] It said famous, palace, Alice.

- [Woman] That door just opened and the other one did not.

Can you move just one door again?

- [Woman] Text.

- The door's shuttin'. - I know.

- It's fine, it's fine.

Shut that door for us, thank you.

Can you shut the other one?

Can you move the other one now?

I kind of feel like maybe you can.

Thank you so much.

Natural position of these doors is,

especially this one, it wants to close.

It's a closed position.

This one is propped, just a touch,

is the natural position of these doors.

So when this one closes fully there's resistance,

it's wanting to open, and when this one is open,

there's resistance, it's wanting to close.

So these that, you know, it's one thing, in my opinion,

it's one thing to catch them opening and closing,

and moving, and kind of breathing,

but to open and hold itself open

for a considerable amount of time is something

that I've personally never seen before.

- I'd have to go, I want to go look

after we're done. - Sure!

- Absolutely, and just see the natural position.

And you'll see that this here, especially this door,

this is not the natural position.

- 'Cause the, you know, the first impression

is it has to be a breeze. - Sure, yeah.

- Because especially when one closes and one opens.

- Yeah, if they're moving in sync.

- Yeah, it seems like that's a breeze coming from

one side or the other. - Yeah.

Yeah, for sure.

I also want to bring it to your attention as well

that we had a lot of movement here.

We had a lot of action in this 15 minutes.

And when we shut this down and we all were going to bed,

we put a steel camera on these doors, just to see.

- For how long? - Just a stationary camera.

Overnight.

- What I'd like to do is, first of all,

go see these doors, of course.

And then given that,

I think this place has been here 112 years or something.

I've been into a lot of places to investigate,

but this has the coolest feel, as far as, you know,

the age of the building.

You know, I've been to all the other ones,

Waverly's and stuff,

but when it's a residential place, for some reason,

it interests me more.

And I'd like to see those doors and maybe do,

can we do a walkthrough--

- Absolutely! - The property?

- Let's do it, yeah! - Okay, good!

- The science of this is that this device is preloaded

with hundreds of thousands of words,

each linked to a different electromagnetic frequency.

And it is alleged that a spirit can then trigger

certain electronic frequencies

and trigger words to communicate with us.

So that's how scientifically the device works.

(grunts)

- [Kane] Anyone here with us in the ballroom?

Has to be a lot of history.

Oh, are those the doors? - Mm-hmm.

- [Man] Yeah, see, these things are super light!

- Are we in the kitchen? - Yeah.

Well, and if you'll notice these doors are not light doors,

they're not fiberglass doors or aluminum doors.

- And there was enough air, while we were in here,

that it was moving the curtains just a little bit.

But like I said, it was just too.

- [Kane] Anybody in this kitchen with me?

- [Woman] We lost him.

- Anybody?

Just thought I'd take a quick walk around

and see if it's anything.

- Is there anybody in here

who would like to communicate with us?

- How are you feeling?

Are you picking up on anything right now?

- I mean, I'm picking up on the,

a lot of the residual stuff.

I think that what we have coming is coming later.

- Yeah. - Mm-hmm.

Like the calm before the storm?

- Right. - You know?

The crucifix has been put in here for protection,

and I don't know exactly what has happened in here

for them to do that,

but I know that somebody would have to be pretty afraid.

- Fairly recently put up there?

- I'm not sure when it's been put up.

- I've noticed that in the corners

of this place, they'll crucifix.

Like, up the second floor, over in the corner,

there's a cross put up there.

So there's been definitely some not putting--

- Yeah, there's been rituals here

of all different sorts over the years,

but the recent rituals are lots of protections spells,

and binding spells,

and that sort of thing have been done here.

I can sense that all over.

- A lot of workers were having experiences and stuff.

- [Woman] I think that she has a little bit of trouble

keeping staff.

- Really?! - Yeah.

Now these two pieces of furniture

also came with the building.

So, not real sure exactly how old they are, but,

they're original pieces.

- [Woman] That light was flickering.

- Yeah, I know. - Did you see that?

- Yeah. - What?

- [Man] Those lights just flickered.

- And this used to be a pretty high dollar place to come,

when the train was really moving,

and Balsam was really a happening--

- [Kane] Are the tracks close?

- The tracks are right there.

And they're actually built on,

like a thoroughfare this whole land, this whole,

everything that this was built on used to be tribal land,

this whole thing.

And when they founded Waynesville in Haywood County,

they actually put bounties on tribal families

that wouldn't leave and they would burn their homes down.

They would just murder entire families

in order to make the surrounding town

of Silva, and Waynesville, and those places.

But this whole entire area

was driven out during the Trail of Tears and all that.

And the history before this place was here,

is super rich with Native American legends

and that kind of thing.

And then they built this

kind of big monstrosity

and right in the middle of everything.

And so it's still kind of, the reservation's,

it's super close to us right now.

So there's no telling what kind of stuff

we can pick up on here. - Yeah.

- [Woman] And some places you go,

and it talks constantly, and some places you go,

and you don't ever hear anything.

- Going up to the second floor.

Anyone on this second floor

that wants to make their presence known by this device?

Anyone in this room like to say something?

- Putting a crucifix in the corner of buildings

is to keep the barriers from one side to the next,

a safer and less demonic spot.

I don't think this place is demonic whatsoever,

but I think people are afraid of ghosts.

And so they, you know, they've seen spirits.

- That's really not in a corner.

- That's a corner-- - Of this hallway.

- Yeah, but it's still in the corner.

And each corner, because it opens up the entire room to it.

And it's just a way of them feeling safer.

- I would love to see something come through this device

regarding this crucifix. - Ask it, talk it.

- Is there any reason that this is on the wall here?

- Is there anyone here who wants to take credit

for scaring somebody to the point that they felt

like they needed to hang a cross in this hall?

- Pretty interesting place,

I guess it's supposed to protect the entire hallway, huh?

- Yeah, I think every hallway has one.

- Oh really?

I didn't even notice. - You have to look at it,

it's like Where's Waldo, but crosses.

When you walk in here, you'll find them.

- Let's go in this one here.

- Here? - Yeah.

- [Kane] What's going on with that?

- Well, throughout the building,

you're going to see these welcome signs

on some rooms and not others.

And what those are is

where previous activity has happened.

They're almost markers.

So these are the rooms that people

who have been here in the past have experienced

or caught relevant evidence would be in these rooms

with the welcome signs.

- Tell me your name through this device.

Whoever feels that this room is personal to them.

Can I just try something?

- Of course. - For sure.

- Stay in here, let me leave,

and see if your feeling changes.

I just want to test my theory that nothing happens

when I'm around, typically.

- Can I see that?

- Yeah, that's a good idea.

I'll just go right down the hall a little bit.

I just want to see, I just want to test this.

My experience from the past,

that things always happen to people I'm with when I leave.

I feel like I'm open to things happening

and it never does unless I leave.

Waverly, all these places I've been to,

soon as I leave, now watch, when they come out of there.

I'll bet you, they say something happened more

than when I was in there.

I hope not because I'd rather not that be the case.

Could have been just coincidental but,

it's interesting to find out, I like to test this.

You know?

- Did it say anything? - Nothing?

- Nothing. - Okay.

- [Man] We should get both cameras up

and do some good lighting.

- What do you mean nothing?

- It didn't say anything. - Yes, it did.

- What'd it say? - No it didn't!

- Yes it did!

When I gave it to him, the last word was shaken.

- [Woman] What does it say now?

- Lip?

- [Man] Yeah, 'cause you give me lip every time we do this.

- It just happened then! - And Synn.

Synn, S-Y-N-N.

- She's talking right now.

(unintelligible overlapping chatter)

- Wow, that's weird. - No, it didn't talk to us.

- It didn't say that? - It did not in there.

- Lip and synn, S-Y-N-N.

What is S-Y-N-N, I wonder, but lip?

Talking about my lip? - S-Y-N-N?

- Mm-hmm. - S-Y-N-N.

- Maybe it knows about-- - You know.

- Are you sure it didn't happen when you were in there?

- Let me just say that while we were in there,

you did say that we want you to know

that Kane's not as scary as he seems.

- And this said lip. - This said lip!

(laughing)

- Wow, and after we were discussing,

wondering what synn is, then the next word

that just came up is guess.

And then rocket.

That's odd. - That's weird.

- Synn, guess, rocket,

I think lip is the coolest one I've seen so far.

- [Man] Why does lip mean something to you?

- Because of my tattoo

in my lip. - Yeah.

- Which says kill, as most people know.

- Which is literally a sin.

- And to a lot of people, tattoos are sins.

- Yeah.

- Lip, why did you say the word lip?

Is it because of my tattoo?

I know it's not the best word

to have tattooed on your body, but.

It's what it is.

Kinda what I'm known for, so I just embrace it.

- There's energy in there.

- I wish I could say I feel uncomfortable somewhere,

but I really don't, not yet, anyway.

I mean, no, I feel very comfortable in this entire building.

You guys feel the same, Mark?

- I felt that way until

about two o'clock in the morning last night.

I woke up

and I felt

like there was a presence, but nothing evil.

Just something that I feel, I can,

I felt like it's, this sounds weird,

and I know it's because we're preparing for the thing,

but it was like,

I had this feeling that they were sprucing up for us,

getting ready for us, so it's a weird feeling,

but it definitely felt like something,

I don't want to say foreboding,

but something upcoming that,

and I'm sure it's me excited about doing this,

but that's the only thing I really picked up,

and I did feel it was some type of energy,

and I hope that's what it is.

And not just me, you know,

dreaming it up because this place

definitely has an energy to it.

I'd like it to be a lot stronger right now.

- Yeah, I slept really well last night.

- I slept really well. - No problems.

- I woke up like at two o'clock,

and like bolted up and you know,

and I had that feeling.

And then I went and went right back to sleep.

- I feel like every time it gets handed to you,

it says something. - I know!

It just did! - It did!

What did it say?! - Why does that happen?

Every time it's handed back to me.

- What did it just say?

Let me see! - Wait, wait, relax!

(laughing)

Right when you handed it to me, it said, Creek.

- Creek. - Wow.

Pushed, and then especially.

Kind of an odd word.

And then bank.

- Can we try something real quick?

Just because every time we hand this thing over,

it says something, let's pass it around.

Just for the hell of it. - Okay.

Wrench, like a tool,

and molecules.

Wow.

- I was going to ask you, do you know how he passed?

Where that spirit came?

- Did someone get hurt by a wrench?

Did someone get pushed?

- Down a bank, into a creek?

- Down a bank, into a creek!

- The Creek was close by? - Mm-hmm.

- Did someone get hurt?

Are you telling us that there was someone that was hurt?

- We would love to hear from you.

- It just do something? - No, that was that.

- So if it's going to be the same way as it's been,

it's going to do something as soon

as it's handed back to me - Probably!

(laughing)

- That'd be cool.

- When you're talking about the ranch,

are you talking about the plumbers

that you guys tormented while they were here working?

There's a whole list of plumbers that left here in a hurry.

- [Man] Yeah, they got scared.

- The plumber I know, lost his whole crew here,

one by one, his whole crew quit.

- Because of incidents? - Because of activity

that happened to them.

Terrified. - During the day?

- [Woman] During the day.

- 'Cause they were working and sometimes

that tends to amp it up.

- So let's see if it does anything.

- [Woman] It was in the middle of remodel.

(laughing)

- It just did two! - Did it?!

- It's still talking to you.

- What'd it say? - I haven't looked.

As soon as it's handed back to me, it talks again.

Three, actually. - Three.

- Is the bottom one the first one it said?

- [Woman] It's the last one it said.

- Okay, so panel,

P-A-N-E-L, equal, and maximum.

Hold it again.

Every time you give it to me, it seems like,

no, you did that one.

- What are you trying to say?

Please repeat.

We'd love to know what you're trying to say to us.

And we appreciate you speaking to us.

(laughing)

- That's pretty crazy, it just did it again.

Just one word this time.

What did it sound like to you before we look.

- I can't hear. - Frying, I heard.

- Probably nine?

- I heard night or something. - Night, something.

With an I in there.

- Two more.

The number nine.

- Wow. - The number nine and scruple.

That's pretty weird that every time it's handed back to me.

- All right, we appreciate you talking with us.

Would love to figure out what you're trying to say.

Are you saying in any way that someone was hurt,

and that in this area?

Was it nine plumbers that quit,

which would be wonderful?

Are you saying there's something in the panels,

under the panels, which would be creepy,

and we need to.

What's this? - Scruple.

- No, no. - Scruple, yeah.

- And we don't have any scruples for talking this way.

All right, but please,

if there's any way you could communicate with us

a little bit stronger and give us, we're not,

I'm not that smart, I need to know

what you're trying to say.

- Maybe hand it to her first.

- Mark said at best, we need you to be

very, very clear with us.

Is there anything you can say to me through this box?

- Maybe you try it?

- I kind of feel like maybe it's heard you talking

and now it's trying to prove to you that it's here.

(laughing)

Because that is so strange.

- That is pretty, if it happens again,

then that's beyond random.

I would think nothing--

- I feel like it's already beyond random.

- I think it's beyond random. - It's pretty close.

- It never talks to you,

and then you're the only one it talks to.

- [Woman] She's put it out that nothing ever happens.

- [Woman] And it's been consistent since we turned it on.

- Let's hear something.

Come on.

- Now it's going to mess with you.

- Yeah, because I want it. - Now it's like ha-ha.

- Ah, see.

That's too bad.

If that had happened again, that'd be pretty good.

Let's go upstairs, shall we?

- I'm pretty amazed that it happened three times in a row.

- This is actually my favorite room.

- Is it? - Yeah, because I looked

in here when I was coming down.

- [Woman] What draws you to this room?

What do you like about it?

- As I walked through the door, it said percent.

I don't know, just a nice, nice room.

Do you want to tell me anything about this room?

- [Woman] I like this room.

- I don't like this room. - You don't?

(woman negatively grunts)

- You think about this room at all?

Percent, what would that mean?

Percent.

It just said something again.

- Did it? - I don't like to look--

- That is so crazy!

- It just said something again, but I haven't looked.

- Oh, great.

(laughing)

- That's wild.

- It's more interesting that--

- What'd it say? - It said,

Doug.

D-U-G.

- Yeah, it can be very, very confusing

because you do have,

you've got to think of these as like passageways.

And there, I don't even know where to start.

There's so many layers to what is here.

There's things that were attached to the land

long before anything was built here.

You've got the native American stuff.

You've got the soldiers that came through here.

Many who were injured, brought here and even died here.

And then you've got staff over the years.

You've got visitors who loved this place.

And then on top of that, you have timestamps.

You have residual energy that just constantly is moving

and they don't see you, they don't know you're here.

They walk right through you.

They just keep doing their thing.

And when you get in these high traffic areas,

you often get more than one entity fighting

for the chance to talk,

frightened, to say what they want to say,

and it can get incredibly confusing.

- If all this is true,

for any kind of entity or spirit to come up

and actually say anything or touch it,

it takes a lot of energy to do that.

- It does, it does.

- Do you think it's like,

all they can muster sometimes is like, Doug?

- I would say sometimes, yeah.

Yeah, depending on the situation.

You know, and it depends on what kind

of conduit you have around.

If you're having a thunderstorm,

if you're sitting on a limestone slab,

if there's running water nearby,

the snow with the static electricity,

those things will certainly amp it up.

But yeah, yeah.

I mean, they have to pull from what they can

to do as little as they can.

- But also they don't know what this is.

And so they don't know what frequency

is attached to what words,

so what we're picking up may be completely random,

but it could be practicing.

It could be like, "Okay, maybe if I do this,"

maybe it's learning with us.

- You know, it'd be a trip

if like some of these words we're picking up

that it's translating into English is Cherokee.

You know, if we are picking it up,

and that's the only way the machine could pick it up

because, you know, we don't know, how to speak Cherokee.

- Just said little.

- Oh, then that's not fair.

- [Man] That's the nursery.

- The nursery right here.

- [Kane] This used to be the nursery?

- Uh-huh, It was like a playroom where they kept the kids.

So the parents could do whenever it was they wanted to do.

- [Kane] Very cool that it said little.

- [Woman] Yeah.

- Little.

I just, you know, what I worry about

with a lot of this kind of stuff is trying to

make things fit and make things meaningful.

And that, you know, I don't know.

I just, I always try to avoid doing that myself

or making it, "Wait a minute, that could mean."

- And there's never a moment where we're going to say,

"This is definitively what it means,"

but the benefit to, sometimes,

trying to interpret what's going on,

the only real benefit is hoping

that you can get a response.

If you're getting it right, you'll get a response.

If you're getting it wrong, maybe you'll get that response.

But that's really the only benefit

to trying to interpret in the moment, you know?

The goal and the hope

is that it'll all come together for us,

that they'll give us enough information

and they'll give us enough of that communication,

so that we don't have to tell their story, they tell it.

- I meant to ask, maybe I can ask later,

Candy, downstairs, said she was shoved

in a storage room or something?

Do you know where that is? - I do.

- [Man] I think that storage room was--

- [Woman] It's to the left,

Only place in the whole building that I was afraid

was up here.

- I like it! - Yeah.

- [Kane] Why is this Henry's hallway?

- It's believed that Henry

is the malicious entity that is here.

And he was trapped in here.

- [Kane] I'm seeing if it says anything.

- But he was the malicious energy that was here.

They gave him this name, I don't know if they found it

in documents or what, but they named him this.

And they bound him to this area here.

And you'll see the black tourmaline.

- [Kane] What is that?

- This is black tourmaline here.

- What is that, rock? - It is, it's a stone,

and what is used for is to absorb negative energy.

And then you have these selenite pieces,

and the selenite pieces are used for protection.

There's several uses,

it can turn off psychic ability,

it shuts down activity.

Selenite is known to-- - Why specifically here?

Is this a real active room or something?

- They've had several rituals done.

The last time we were here,

this door was completely bound,

and I noticed that it is not this time,

but it had been bound multiple times.

almost as like a barrier that, you know,

this entity's trapped in here,

you cannot cross this barrier.

If you're going to be here,

and we don't know how to get rid of you,

you're going to stay right here.

We're at least going to have you centralized.

- Can we go in here tonight?

- [Man] We're negotiating that.

That requires an individual waiver to the hotel.

- Can we take down the safety stones if we do?

Or even just when we come here tonight?

Nope? - She doesn't even want

to let us in there.

Or the basement. - Well, that's intriguing,

and that just makes us want to go in there.

- [Man] She said two people got hurt

in their own paranormal investigations.

- In here? - Yes.

I mean, I'm not trying to blow it up,

I'm just telling me what she tells me.

- And that's the owner we're talking about?

- [Man] You could tell she legitly--

- She's afraid of this room. - Believes in this place.

- [Woman] What did that say?

- [Woman] Did it say witch?

- Did it say witch? - Yeah.

- That's me, I'll own it.

- It said remember, and then it said witch,

and then it said David.

- I get called a witch every single time.

- A witch?! - Every single time.

Every time I've ever done an investigation

and used that Ovilus,

I've been called a witch. - You heard it say witch?

- Yeah, and I felt it, I knew it, yeah.

- Kane, walk up to the door and ask it a question.

- Like, David or? - Whatever.

- I'd like to enter this room.

Would you have a problem that?

(door rattling)

Damn it.

Sneak in there.

(laughing)

- [Woman] Just a little peak.

- I wanna go in this room, is that okay?

- [Man] Damn crystals.

- [Woman] Do you want us to open the door?

- I think it's locked.

- Just sorta an experiment,

I'm going to take those crystals down.

And, Kane, you approach it again.

Amanda, do you want me to do that?

- It's okay. - Okay.

- [Woman] She's getting goosebumps again.

- So I'm right at the door.

I'd like to come in here at some point.

It doesn't have to be now.

How would you feel about that?

(door rattling)

Not trying to antagonize, just trying to get a response.

They did not like me doing that.

(chuckles)

(gasps)

What'd it say? - I think it said threat,

is what I heard. - I thought it secret.

- Secret? - Did it?

- Threat? - Yeah!

- Threat?! - Am I a threat to you?

- [Man] What do you have in your hands?

- [Woman] you have the stuff in your hand.

I have goosebumps from head to toe.

- That's pretty bizarre. - That's a good one.

- You got to say that's pretty coincidental.

- That's good, I like that. - Threat, as soon as she--

- [Man] Come up with those crystals?

- That was a big one.

- I would like to personally say creepy.

(laughing)

- Yeah, be up here at nine.

All right, so we meet again.

If there's anything here that would like

to communicate with us, we ask that you step forward,

give us a sign that you're here.

Kate entered.

- Entered? - Mm-hmm.

Do we have someone named Kate?

Can you come speak with us, Kate?

- [Ovilus] Blaze.

- Blaze.

(laughing)

The guy that has been burned grabs the--

- [Woman] Wow.

- Blaze, interesting.

Is that referring to my fire injury perhaps?

- Okay, so, basically what we do

with the Estes Method is we're going to,

I will, essentially, be putting on a set

of noise canceling headphones,

and blindfolding myself.

And those headphones are then attached to the spirit box,

which is the device that runs off of Hertz,

which are radio waves.

And as I'm getting sounds, words, anything I can make out,

I'm going to vocalize those out.

However, I can't hear what they're asking,

what they're communicating.

I just tell you what I hear,

and hopefully they'll coincide.

- If there's any kind of message

that you would like to tell us, now is the time.

There's a person in the hall

that can hear you if you speak.

- I just felt a big energy shift in the room.

- [Maeve] There's a device that can also pick up

if you would like to communicate through it.

- Oh, this lady just, she's yelping.

- [Maeve] Is there something we can do to help you?

Are you in pain?

Are you afraid?

Is there something chasing you?

- She screamed.

- [Maeve] What is chasing you?

- [Kane] Pride.

- Walk - Stop!

- [Kane] Magic.

- Oh, oh!

He said help again.

There's a male saying help.

- [Maeve] Okay, I feel like there's a lot of stuff--

- Help me, it was the female!

- [Maeve] What can we do to help you?

Is there some kind of supernatural thing going on

that we can help you with?

- Whoa!

- [Maeve] Is that where magic comes into play?

- She yelped again.

It's the same yelp every time.

- [Maeve] What are you afraid of?

- A man!

- [Maeve] What is the man doing?

Is he chasing you?

- Get out!

- [Maeve] Is he attacking you?

- He's here.

- [Maeve] Is this man someone you know?

- My heart is racing.

- We need more information so we can help you.

Is he hurting you?

- [Amanda] Yes.

Yeah.

- What's he doing to you?

- This is unbelievable,

but the male voice said, "You bitch."

- [Maeve] I just want to know more about you.

- "Please," she said, "Please."

- [Maeve] I want to know more about you.

If you were the man

going after this woman,

why?

What are you doing this for?

- He said, "Bitch." - Often.

- [Maeve] Oh, you do this often, do you?

Why?

Who's the bitch?

- Her.

- [Maeve] What did she do?

Why is she a bitch?

- [Kane] Think.

- [Maeve] Why wouldn't you leave her alone?

- I did it.

- [Maeve] Were you responsible for taking her life?

- Yes.

- [Maeve] How did you kill her?

- I'm mad.

- [Maeve] We all get mad, why did you kill her?

How did you kill her?

Don't get quiet now.

- Is this David?

(unintelligible crosstalk)

- What'd she say?

- I couldn't hear it. - I didn't hear it.

- David?

It said, remember,

and then it said witch,

and then it said, David.

David?

David?

Answer me, David.

- [Amanda] It's me.

- What? - She said, "It's me."

- This is David?

Thank you for answering.

- Do something to prove you're here.

Make a noise, knock on a door.

- Don't come.

- [Maeve] We just want to know more about you.

- [Kane] David.

- [Maeve] If the lady is still here, what is your name?

What can we do to help you?

- Too bad.

- What? - She said, "Too bad."

- Baby. - "Too bad, baby."

- Baby? - Yeah.

I want the woman to come talk to us--

- [Amanda] Hi.

- Hi.

(shushing)

It's almost like she said, "Hi," and he shushed her.

- That's funny.

- It's sad.

(gasping)

The creepiest female voice just whispered, sort of,

and said, "That was it."

- Said what? - "That was it."

- What'd that say? - Mad and alone.

- Are we getting closer to talking to what is in that room?

- Attack?

- [Maeve] Okay, I feel like we're getting

some negative stuff, so is this what was locked in the room?

Can you focus your energy?

I feel like you're scattered and kind of all over the place.

Can you focus that energy on a message, on a noise?

- I'm here!

- We want to know more about you.

Anything you can tell us?

I feel like there's a lot of energy,

and it's kind of going all over the place.

Like there's more than one--

- Say it. - Trying to communicate.

Try to focus

on one mess--

- Is there anywhere a breeze could be coming from?

Like a heavy one?

- [Maeve] Is that you making the breeze around Amanda?

- I did it.

- [Maeve] Who are you?

Which one are you?

If you made the breeze, who are you?

- I don't want to.

- [Maeve] Please talk to us.

We're trying to make sense of what all you're saying,

but there's a lot.

- Fire.

- Fire? - Mm-hmm.

- [Kane] Was that directed toward me?

Fire?

- [Maeve] I feel like maybe you've been trying

to talk to Kane while we've been here.

Is there something you would like to say to him?

- [Kane] I'm willing to listen.

Open-minded, tell me anything.

- Jack.

- What? - Jack.

Does that mean anything to you?

- Yeah.

Which Jack are you referring to?

- [Amanda] War.

- War. - War?

- [Amanda] Out loud.

- Out loud.

- Crossover, faster--

- [Amanda] Mary.

- What was that? - Mary.

- Mary.

- [Amanda] Wow.

- Give me more information about Jack.

Can you give me a last name for Jack?

Or another name for Jack?

- Why do you ask?

- [Kane] Well, I have a couple of Jacks in my past

and in my life, I'd like to know

which one you're referring to.

Jack.

Just trying to understand that's all.

- It's saying

things quietly that I just can't make out.

- [Kane] Need to speak up a little bit.

Say another name with Jack or something

that has to do with the Jack you're speaking about.

So I know who it is.

Too many Jacks in my life.

- I don't want to do it.

- [Kane] Well, why'd you bring up the name then?

Just give me a little bit more.

- Me?

- [Kane] Yes, you.

Jack?

What?

Referring to when I was a child or when I was an adult?

There are two Jacks.

Just give me a hint.

That's all, just an extra piece of information.

- It's me, it's him.

- [Kane] I don't know who that is.

- It said don't something me.

- I'm not trying to anger you, if that's what you mean.

- [Ovilus] Hair.

Hair.

Hmm, doesn't give me a lot of information.

Let's go back to Jack.

- [Amanda] Too bad.

- Too bad?

Oh, all right, well.

Just trying to understand you, that's all.

- No. - Okay, fine.

- Now we're going to get argumentative.

- Me.

It does look pretty cool.

- Is it a strange feeling though?

- It is, it is.

I mean, imagine like most

of your senses being cut off, you know?

- And you're just saying what you hear

from the Spirit Box. - Yeah, yeah.

Essentially, the noise-canceling headphones,

anything I hear outside, movement or whatever,

is incredibly muffled, if any, at all.

And then I just hear.

(whooshing)

- [Man] Have you watched this?

- Have you seen-- - I haven't, no.

I haven't watched it back.

- A lot of focus on Kane, folks.

- There really is, I noticed that.

- I don't know if that's true, but you know,

there's a couple of Jacks in my life.

It's an old story when I was a kid,

he used to be able to save money by...

My dad was making a driving trip somewhere.

He would call my mom person to person.

This is back in the day, and say,

and she would pick up the phone and it would say,

"We have a person to person call from Jack Hodder.

"Will you accept the charges?"

And she'd say, "No."

And then hang up, so there was no charge for the phone call,

but that would indicate that my dad

got to where he was going.

So that shows fuckin' my age, I guess.

But that was one of the Jacks, and then, you know,

my roommate for years

was named Jack also.

So I was trying to see if I could, you know,

get it narrowed down to,

if it, in fact, was referring to somebody in my life,

I wanted to see if it was one of them.

- I don't have any Jack.

- I don't either.

- Jackson? - No, but I wasn't there.

Is your dad still alive?

- No.

- He died before I even became successful

at my stunt career, unfortunately, so.

- [Man] I mean, if that is his way of saying,

"I've made it, I'm safe?"

- [Woman] Or, "I'm watching you work."

- Oh, you know, I didn't even fucking think of that.

- Oh my God, it's touching. - Is there any other words

that were said, 'cause I know it said war,

and it said-- - Well, my dad was in the war.

- Was he? - Yeah.

He was wounded. - It said a lot of things,

I think, that were really directed at you.

- Could be, you know, I mean,

I don't want to try and make everything fit.

- I feel like maybe you've been trying

to talk to Kane while we've been here.

Is there something you would like to say to him?

- I'm willing to listen.

Open-minded, tell me anything.

- [Amanda] Jack.

- What? - Jack.

- Does that mean anything to you?

- Yeah.

Which Jack are you referring to?

- [Amanda] War.

- War. - War?

- [Amanda] Out loud.

- Out loud.

- Crossover, faster--

- [Amanda] Mary.

- What was that? - Mary.

- Mary.

Yeah, I didn't even think of the fact

that it could be him saying, "I'm good."

Why is it directed toward me

when she's the one in the hot seat?

- Yeah. - 'Cause I'm, I mean,

I could easily just be the conduit.

In my career, it's often had nothing to do with me.

As the natural flow, you kind of tend to be

a little more centered, at least than the rest--

- I wonder why that would be that,

that maybe I haven't been

doing this stuff that much.

I mean, I have with my group, but not to this extent.

- When you first came, you said,

we talked a lot about the fact

that stuff tends to stop happening when you're around.

- Right. - Things don't happen.

And maybe that kind of opened you up as a beacon this time.

- Oh, you think it's not gonna happen!

- Yeah, right. - But watch this!

- Yeah, right, exactly.

'Cause I know a lot of paranormal investigators

that go off in search of

the "It" happening and the full bodied apparition,

having an Ovilus talk to you.

And I know that you say that you really didn't

take too much from it, but that was a lot directed at you.

- I just wish it wasn't so much that,

I mean, I guess it's only natural

that there's stuff that seems to be meaningless.

Words that keep repeating,

like Elle came up a couple times.

- [Man] Yeah, it did come up a couple times.

- But you know, if every time you got on that,

if the experience was like black and white,

then what would be the point of doing this?

- I'd probably think it was real then.

- Exactly, it'd be too obvious.

So I mean, either way you look at it.

- My dad died in 1980,

and I didn't become

where I could make a living at doing stunts until '85.

I always credit my wife for,

when I met her, my career started taking off.

Truly, truly.

And then then three years after we met,

then I did the Jason thing.

And every thing obviously catapulted from there.

But you know,

he never got to see any of my success while here.

I know people always say, "Well, he's seen it after he,"

I know, but it'd be nice

that he saw it when he was fuckin' here.

- [Man] I don't know, I mean, that's really touching to me

if that's his code to say, "I made it."

- "I made it okay!"

- I'm surprised I didn't even consider that.

- [Man] That's the first thing I thought of--

- I just thought about the Jack Hodder thing.

And I have never told the Jack Hodder story anywhere

because it's meaningless, really.

Why would I, like in the documentary and stuff?

I wouldn't talk about that because nobody gives a shit.

But you know, so it's not like some,

somebody was trying to make that into something, you know?

- All right, so we decided to do

this experiment in the ballroom.

We've got the SLS camera again, it makes the humanoid forms.

And we were told that if you play

music from particular eras, that there's more activity,

lights will flicker, things will move,

the curtains will sway, that sort of thing.

So we decided to put the music on with a speaker,

turn it up, kind of recreate that natural environment

of what would happen in that ballroom

and just see if we could catch something on SLS.

And the reason we did this was because

the odds of seeing it with the naked eye, slim to none,

you know, we can take still shots.

We are not likely to catch anything.

A regular video camera is not going to catch anything,

but with this SLS camera,

it gives us this opportunity because it will,

and it's job is to try and catch these humanoid forms.

So it was a good opportunity

to see if we could catch somebody reacting to the music.

And this residual stuff that's happening here,

it could trigger that to start up.

And so we go in and turn the music on.

Mark asks Maeve to dance.

And so, they go out on the dance floor,

and they're slow dancing, and to the right of them,

a humanoid shape forms.

And it literally bounces it shoulders to the beat.

It's swaying and dancing with them, it's moving its leg.

They would go to the left, it would go with them.

Really, one of the coolest things

I have personally seen as a paranormal investigator.

(laughing)

It danced with you.

- [Maeve] Did it?!

- [Amanda] Now it's gone.

Do you see that, now it's gone.

Oh, it's still there.

- [Maeve] Oh, it's on the ground.

- [Man] This place has made you wanna dance?

- [Mark] Yep.

- We all need time.

Okay, that could be the last autograph

I ever sign, so keep this.

- [Mark] I will, you know I will.

- Let's go.

This, according to everyone's experience,

and according to the owner

and the people that work here,

this is where the worst feelings

are given and gotten.

So that's why I want to go by myself.

- [Man] You're physically,

Amanda, you're nervous right now

and see, you're fidgeting, what's going on in your mind?

- I'm just, I'm nervous.

I mean, I've, I've kind of, don't have the best feeling.

- [Man] About Kane going in there?

- Just about this whole, you know,

little experiment that we're doing right now.

- We'll see what happens.

It's pretty fuckin' weird in here, I'll say that.

(rattling)

This is a suffocating place, I'll say that.

Pushed.

(laughing)

Now that's a little weird, I mean,

you may have noticed,

I kind of lost my balance for a second,

just looking around, and right then,

the Ovilus said pushed, so that's a little coincidental.

Hopefully that shows on this camera.

Pushed.

Pushed.

Okay.

So.

I've been in a lot of locations

and a lot of creepy areas,

but this one might be the best.

This is where

the woman that works the front desk

said she got thrown.

As far as creepiness, this,

this is pretty much does it.

I find it weird that I kinda

lost my balance a little bit,

and then, right then, it said pushed.

So it could be coincidental,

probably is, but it's still kind of odd.

Just showing around, boy, it's so dark.

I can't see anything in here, really.

A couple of windows, but almost no light comes in.

Just a storage room, but the owner, and employees,

and everybody else say this is where

they feel the least comfortable in the whole place.

So of course,

I always like to go

to the most uncomfortable place

by myself.

It's the only way to ever feel,

you know,

uncomfortable, is to go somewhere by yourself.

Nobody is anywhere near me now.

They all left this part of the building.

So just,

I'm going to just be quiet for a moment,

and see if I can hear anything.

If anybody's here and would like

to make their presence known,

go ahead.

I'm not here to disturb anybody,

I'm just here to communicate if you want to.

It's extremely quiet in here.

If you hear a creek, it's just me,

all the floors are wood.

I'm going to sit for a minute.

Hopefully that doesn't affect the body cam badly.

Oop, it just said something.

None.

N-O-N-E.

And halo.

I'm trying to figure out where that light's coming from,

I dunno.

Just a tiny bit of light.

It's like it's reflecting.

None and halo.

Not sure what that's supposed to mean, but.

So.

Anyone here

like to make your presence known,

or say something, or make a noise,

I'm here for you.

People know that anytime I do an investigation,

I gotta go in the scariest place by myself.

It's the only way to really feel the discomfort.

If you have somebody with you,

there's a companionship,

and you don't feel like anything could happen

because somebody's with you.

But when you're by yourself,

and everybody has completely left the area,

that's when it feels creepy.

Not a single noise.

I'm not sure it's a smart idea,

but I'm going to try and walk around in here a little bit.

The only light I have is this,

IR light on the camera

and a slight bit of light from this.

Hopefully I don't bust my ass on something, but,

I want to see if I can,

if there's a way to walk around in here.

Oh my God.

I'm going to turn this away from me for a second.

So I have some kind of light.

Oh, here we go.

I can go over here.

Oops, sorry, that was me.

I see a tiny bit of light coming through the window there.

Man this is not...

Much easier to walk around in here in the daytime for sure.

Let me see what's on the other side.

If anything.

I'm not sure what's in here.

Old ass furniture, what is this?

I don't think I should go over there.

It looks like shit could fall.

Anybody in this part of the room,

like to say anything to me?

Give me some kind of sign that you're here.

Not a space where you feel real comfortable.

That's for sure.

According to everybody that lives here or knows this place,

this is where all the bad shit happens.

So.

Let me hear something.

Say something through this, do something.

Just let me know you're here, that's all.

I'm not looking for a fight, I'm just looking for evidence.

I'd like to tell people you're here,

and that you tried to say something to me or something.

Maybe I'll try sitting once more.

Anyone want to make their presence known before I leave?

I'm just blocking this.

This IR light, because I thought I saw

something move over there, but it's hard to tell,

'cause this light doesn't seem bright,

but it is when you're looking.

I'm just gonna look again,

I'm just blocking it for a second.

Slight noise over in that same direction, but,

not really that loud.

Happens to be from the same area where I thought I saw.

That time, it seemed like I did see something move.

Anybody here?

(ghoul laughing)

I'm just going to cover this again for a second.

Nothing else.

Anyone here?

Anyone behind me?

I think I'm covering up the body cam.

I'll stand up again.

That's interesting.

It said direction.

And then hiped hop.

Hiped, H-I-P-E-D H-O-P, hiped hop.

Are you're trying to tell me something?

Direction.

What did you mean by direction?

Which direction do you want me to face?

Here?

Here?

Here?

Here?

Not sure what you'd like me to do.

I think I'm going to slowly make my way out,

but if you would rather me not leave,

just let me know.

Sorry, I have to use the IR light

to see where I'm going.

Over in this area is where I thought I saw something move,

but oops, that was me.

Well.

I'm at the door.

One last look.

- [Ovilus] Daddy.

- I think you probably heard that.

It said, daddy.

Well, hmm.

If you don't want me to leave, please.

(laughing)

Oh, that's pretty good.

It said, scared.

Not sure about this, but if you could

make a noise that would reinforce

my feeling like you're in here.

Total silence again.

Just want to say once again,

thank you for allowing me in here.

I do appreciate it,

and I wish the best for you,

whatever that is.

I do.

Goodbye.

I've been doing investigations for, you know, geez.

I don't even know how many years, a long time.

And as I said, all over the place,

and even when I go somewhere

to shoot a film,

if I know of a place that supposedly

has some paranormal history,

I'll try and go over there by myself,

not even telling anyone that I was doing it.

And not necessarily with equipment,

but just to see if I could experience anything.

So I really never have.

I would have to say that this location

is for me, personally,

the most

activity, I guess you could say,

that I've witnessed.

and going into that,

you know, room that nobody wants to go in,

where I was by myself last night,

I almost never feel uncomfortable.

I just feel like, maybe,

uncomfortable because of the temperature or something,

but last night in that room,

when you go in a room, and of course,

the stories you've heard about it play into that.

When the woman that works the front desk here

says she was thrown in that room.

And when you ask her about it,

you know,

you can tell, she's not making the shit up.

So when somebody looks right into your face

and says, "I was thrown,"

that's pretty hard to just blow off as,

"Ah, come on," it couldn't have happened.

Because she hit the ground for some reason, so.

You hear stories like that,

and that sets the tone for you going in there.

And most people don't want to go in that room by themselves.

So that's why I like to do that.

I'm

of the opinion that you can never really, truly

be uncomfortable in an investigation

until you go to the worst place by yourself

and with no lights on.

I just had an IR camera, a body cam,

no light in there at all.

And I was in there for 32 minutes.

I have to say

that was the least comfortable

I've ever been in a location, ever.

Because most of the time I just sit there, and like,

"Okay, well, this is the same old thing again.

"It's dark, it's quiet, okay."

But something about that room was different for me.

I guess maybe it sounds weird, but I enjoyed it.

(laughing)

I mean, I make a living trying to scare people,

so it's kind of fun for me to be uncomfortable.

(creepy music)
