- Hi, this is Tamar again
and I am back with Alex,

our amazingly talented
makeup department head

and today we're gonna be talking about

Jacob and Kimia's episode, AKA-

- Beets.
- Beets.

At first we were going to
have them be safari tourists

with some sort of animal in a BabyBjorn

that Jacob was going to
carry around with him.

Then we kind of realized
after just talking a lot

that it seemed like it wasn't gonna be

that big of a transformation

and we wanted to have this kind of wow

when they saw themselves in the mirror.

We decided on what we
named it, Elizabethan,

and then they ended up turning
them into these French dolls,

probably without knowing
French is what I'm gonna guess.

I know Vic ended up knowing French,

which was even funnier.

(Zonton and Marionette
conversing in "French")

- Je parle un peu français.

- Huh?

- This one was a fun one.

We had an artist help us
build the cage, the cage wig,

and she did an incredible
job and you and I

had discussed, Tamar, that we wanted it

to be a little more silly
so we hollowed out this wig

and then we ended up placing
lights in it and a bird in it

and just silly decorative
items inside the wig for her

to kind of play with or utilize

if she notices them in her reveal.

I think originally the bird,

we were going to have Jacob
have a entire bird face as well

and I think in all the
iterations we changed it

to simplifying him

and doing a different
type of makeup on him.

But we still wanted that bird,

the Easter egg of it being in there.

And the wig was really light,

but we had a braider come in

and prep the hair appropriately

so that we could really rig it in there

so she could have a lot of movement.

We had no idea how she
was going to perform

and we weren't sure how
extreme her movements

were going to be,

depending on how she
decided on her character

so we kind of had to be
prepared for anything.

(Kimia imitating trumpet)

- We kind of very last minute
decided since this format

for a show is so different than anything

any of us have really worked on before,

we thought that it
would be important to do

kind of like a little dress rehearsal

to figure out the run of show.

We had Jacob come in
for our dress rehearsal

since Jacob and Vic are
on a improv team together,

they knew that they would
have a really great rapport.

The characters that we were
going to put Jacob and Kimia in

in the beginning with tourists,

I think, we had a shirt from when we were

thinking about doing the tourist character

so we threw the shirt on him

and then I brought the BabyBjorn
that I used on my daughter

and so he wore that.

I remember the entire time,
I'm pretty sure that he thought

that we were doing some sort of game

or prank for game changer.

- There was a bit of a panic, I remember,

because they we're prepping
and we have everything laid out

and we don't have the code names on it yet

and they're like, "Jacob's in the house!"

And we're scurrying everywhere

to hide all the different characters.

Luckily we built boxes for each character

and then put the code name on the outside,

but everything was out
'cause we were still

finalizing pre-pass or any of those things

and the rule was Jacob couldn't know about

any of the characters
because we didn't want him

to give it away or have
a reaction by accident

and so it was just, I think, a mad dash

to hide everything when
he had entered the studio.
