and we hooked up

and obviously it was complicated,

changed how I was going

So it was very, very sheltered.

But, you know, you don't realise
when you're growing up in it.

It was, like, so many restrictions,
a lot of davening, a lot of shul,

a lot of learning.

I was a pretty devout Jew
my whole childhood.

I think ultimately,
if not for Tyler,

I probably
would be an Orthodox Jew,

married with a
very traditional family.

I don't think I would have chosen

this untraditional,
unorthodox family.

Having two mixed kids,
I have a different fear

that I never knew that I would have.

And it's more of them not
being accepted on either side.

One of the mums sent me an
article with a picture of us

at Aria's second birthday party,

and they were talking about all of
the mums in the picture

and talking about
we only wanted the kids

with this white man
just so we can erase the black race,

and they don't even understand,
you know, the half of it

or the struggle or, you know,
what we have to go through

to get these children.

Some of the criticism that I've seen
is coming from other black people

that don't like the fact
that he's biracial.

This is something that I
think black people have dealt with

for a long time now.

If they decide to date outside

because race is a social construct

that people have made up.

It's very sad that people
can't see the beauty in it.

All we can really do is raise him
to be a part of that change.
