this is gonna alleviate so much stress.

molding throughout the house, uh, holes repaired.

It's a lot of intricate work.

I'm looking at everything that we gotta do.

Right now, I'm floating two mortgages.

So I need to get a renter in our current house fast.

And I have someone lined up, ready to move in next month.

But it's all contingent on me getting this work done in three weeks.

So if we can't reach our deadline,

we're in some serious trouble.

There's a lot that has to happen in a short time period

because I'm spending so much money already,

just to this point.

I went from not being able to sleep at night over stress,

I'm auditioning for NYU!

[Darian] For a singing program that I applied to.

But I'm still lost, like, how did this happen?

[Darian] So I applied for a bunch of schools,

and... just look at it. You have to come look at it.

Look, look what they said.

The program that I applied for was for singing and performing,

and I did not expect to hear back so soon.

But I know this is an opportunity that not a lot of people have.

So this audition is a big deal.

It says, "Hello, Darian Derrico,

we are very excited to see you at your artistic review."

[Deon] I didn't know you actually applied.

So, Darian, what does this audition entail?

So, have to sing two songs.

That's this week, though.

-In New York? -Yeah.

You know, you got to fly across country. This is a lot.

This is... this is... But this is also...

a phenomenal opportunity

for our baby girl.

[Deon] Well, baby, I'll hold it down.

I'll handle here at the house.

[Deon] You know, of course I'm proud of her, because if she is accepted,

she'll be the very first person in our immediate family

to go to college.

[in sing-song voice] I'm so excited.

[Deon] But I'm having some serious mixed emotions over this

'cause this ball got rolling way too fast for me to process.

You already know how I feel about this, right?

Listen, I want to understand.

I am extremely proud for her.

-[chuckles] -[Deon] But I know it was orchestrated

by the head queen.

[Karen] I really want her to go.

I do think that New York is calling her.

I really and truly do.

However, Derrico and I are not in agreement with this.

So, if she does get accepted and go,

I know it's gonna be difficult for Derrico,

-I already don't like your head shaking like that. -[Deon] You know it.

So he already told me he was really busy,

and he have another job.

But he was fitting me in.

So the painting was supposed to be done

in four days.

And then flooring starting immediately after.

It looks like he can't complete it in enough time

in order to do the flooring.

So how far now... it pushes us back?

A month, if we can't get it done by the by four days.

-So that throws everything off. -Oh, my gosh!

This is just too much.

[Deon] If this house is rented out next month,

we cannot live in that unfinished house.

So, I don't really know what we're gonna do

if I don't get this work finished in time.

I mean, I don't really know.

We are going to celebrate

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday

at the children's museum.

We are still homeschooling all of our babies in this small house.

So, I decided for their social studies curriculum,

let's get them out of the house,

and also, let's go to the local museum

and learn more about Dr. Martin Luther King.

I think the one thing that will never forget

is the day that he was... he was assassinated.

I was in the dentist chair and, um, the dentist,

when he came back, I knew he had been crying.

I mean, the whole country was really in mourning.

Mm-hmm, it was rough.

When Martin Luther King came along,

he was like hope for the Black people.

I remember having to go to the back of the bus,

the water fountains that we had to drink out of,

they looked like somebody had bathed them down in mud.

My brother and I went to a store

and he said, "We don't serve you."

And he said the N-word in here.

The speech that he gave...

-[Deon] "I have a dream." -[GG] Yeah.

[Deon] That was a very profound...

-[GG] It was. -[Deon] ...vision.

Yeah, I get the chills

-when I think about that. -I just got it, too.

[GG] I can't even imagine my grandchildren

having to experience anything remotely close

to what even I experienced.

He was definitely a great man that needs to be honored,

and that's what we're gonna do in a couple of days.

But Mommy and Papi have another surprise for y'all.

We are gonna take y'all somewhere.

If we told y'all, then it wouldn't be a surprise.

I didn't wanna show the children the new house yet.

But, you know, it's been really hard on them as well.

And honestly, we really could use their help

if we're gonna be in this house in three weeks.

Our old house had no room and... and this house is so much bigger.

[GG] I had to live with them briefly before,

and I was really in a hurry to get up out of there.

Every grown adult need to have their own space.

No, right now, I don't feel it.

My concerns about GG not living with us

is simply with the health challenges that she has,

something should happen, someone is always at home to be there with her.

But I can't force her to do what I feel is best for her life.

So overall, what do y'all think of this house, of your new home?

When are we moving in?

So, we have a lot that we still have to do.

As you can see, it's a mess in here.

First of all, we have to have the house painted before the flooring is down.

We have to also pack our other house...

-[Karen] Hmm. -[Deon] ...and we need all hands on deck.

I just think that you should hire someone to help us.

Name one time we have solicited the help of our children,

and it has helped everything go smooth? And, go.

Even though we are weeks away,

the packing process takes a long time

because we've been cramming stuff in this small house for five years.

We have clothing, school supplies, toys.

It's just a lot.

So, it is very important to stay organized

when moving a family of 16.

I'm trying to declutter anything that's mix match.

[Deonee speaking]

-[Deniko groans] -[Deon] It's a good idea,

but who's gonna conduct it?

Me because I'm a businesswoman.

I appreciate the children for wanting to do a garage sale

to get rid of some of our unwanted items.

This will be a great learning experience for everyone.

I don't know who's gonna learn more from this,

you or the children.

But I have a feeling it's gonna be you.

[Deon] When it comes to Darian,

she never, ever expressed a desire to go to college until recently.

But now she's having an audition to attend college in New York,

and all of this came out of left field for me.

I really mean it. So, if you do get accepted, then what?

I have to cross that bridge when I get there.

That sounds a little confusing.

Sounds like there's some skepticism there.

Yeah, I'm just kind of still in the middle

'cause I don't know what to expect.

I just... I don't know, really know what I wanna do.

I don't really know whether I wanna go to school or not.

Now that I've applied to NYU,

I'm just so surprised that the ball's moving so quickly.

I mean, I just started seriously thinking about college,

and it feels like such a huge step.

I just kinda wish things could slow down a little bit

because I'm still very confused about what to do.

When Mommy was young, she said she stepped out her comfort zone.

So I guess I feel like Mommy wants it more than I do,

and I don't wanna let her down.

I'm actually a little pissed off.

Karen and I both regularly spoke about

making sure we would never do this to any of our children.

And I mean, I think this is such a great opportunity for Darian to go to college,

but it's time that she starts making her own choices and her own decisions,

and not be worried about what Karen and myself think.

Mommy has come from a good place,

but it's very common for children

when their parents start telling them what they want for their lives,

for the child to try to emulate that.

But you are an adult now.

So you have to do what your heart tells you to do.

You know, Darian will be our first child to leave home

if she is accepted for this school.

So yes, as a parent, that's an adjustment for me.

But I have a suspicion that Karen is pushing

a little bit more than just guiding.

I just... it's just really hard.

It's really hard.

It's like I'm worried about, like, if I go to college,

I'll miss all my siblings a lot.

But then if I don't go to college,

I might have regrets because I didn't go.

So I just have to see how I feel

because things can change.

Yeah.

Now, I do want my baby to be close.

But more than that, I want her to be happy

with her choice that she's made herself

and not a choice that Karen has made for her.

I am confident, baby, that you will make the best choice.

My name is Kyra.

Like, are you guys all one family?

One of the many things that I love with homeschooling

is that I get the opportunity to be more creative.

So today, I booked a private lesson

at the Children's Museum.

And our babies will learn more about Dr. Martin Luther King

and all of his wonderful contributions.

It's essential to show our children

what we had to fight for in this country.

[Kyra] So Dr. Martin Luther King

led the March on Washington in 1963.

That's where he did his "I Had a Dream" speech.

And one of the reasons that we celebrate his life

is because he brought peaceful resistance

as a method of rebellion.

He helped push along legislation

for the Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act,

and the Fair Housing Act.

So it's all thanks to him that we were able

to desegregate much of our country.

Right.

Look at Dawsyn over here.

One of Dawsyn's donors, Tiffany.

She helped save your baby sister's life.

-We are living his dream now today. -[Deon] Yes.

This is something that will grow over time.

And as they get older, they'll come to realize

how important Martin Luther King was

to the world as a whole.

Literally, I have paint everywhere

except on these damn walls.

Y'all gave me a bigger problem than I started out with.

When I look at Darian spreading her wings

it is hard to grasp that as a mother.

And now when I look at this extremely talented, smart,

beautiful young woman, I feel as though

I'm just so proud of Darian.

It's like, this is one of those defining moments.

Hearing Darian is feeling pressure for pursuing this

is very upsetting for me.

That I want Karen and I to always maintain

a united front around Darian and her going to college.

This is a big opportunity.

That's the point, and it's time sensitive.

When she realizes six months from now,

"I should have went in.

If they accepted me, I should have...

I should have taken that opportunity."

I want my daughter to be successful,

just know why you're making them,

and be comfortable with doing so.
