[Reynolds] You remember the last episode with Arthur celebrating

his 100th birthday at the Racecourse?

Now, we know what you're thinking,

why didn't we show the match, so you could watch as the team clinched

a heroic win just for Arthur? Well, here's why.

Wrexham!

[commentator] Tranmere win at Wrexham.

Well...

[Reynolds] We've been doing so well... worked our way up to third place...

but losses like this could ruin our chances at promotion,

and this one definitely ruined a nice old man's birthday.

But we're actually getting ahead of ourselves here.

All this was much later on in the season, and we're not ready to show you that yet.

Let's back up a bit.

Uh. A bit more.

This is a story that starts long ago.

The year after Wrexham AFC was founded,

153 Welsh people decided to go on a journey

to protect their culture and language from the English.

They hopped on a boat called the Mimosa and sailed many, many miles to Patagonia

to start over.

But what they came across was a harsh and barren landscape.

Still they persevered,

working long and hard to build a new home for themselves.

Since then, these Patagonian settlers have kept the spirit of Wales alive,

even though many of their descendants today have never actually been to Wales.

[Matias] This is Moriah Chapel, and it's the oldest Welsh chapel that still stands.

I'm a direct descendant from the first settlers

that came here in 1865.

I just always think how scary it must have been.

There was nothing there.

The Welsh settlers were so determined

and so resilient to protect and preserve their culture.

They took Wales with them.

They brought it here, and they built it back up from scratch.

To say that I am Welsh, and to feel Welsh,

and to never have been in Wales...

For me, it's embedded within me

because all the sacrifices that these people made...

I wouldn't be here without it.

[David, in Spanish] I'm David. I live in Trelew, Patagonia Argentina,

and I'm the biggest Wrexham fan outside of Wales.

I started being a fan of the club in 2019,

when Paul Jones reached out to me in the Welsh Pride Facebook group.

And he suggested I could be a supporter from Patagonia.

That was the start of a beautiful friendship.

And since then, I created a Patagonia Fans page.

It currently has 1,500 followers and continues to grow.

When my Facebook group became better known,

Paul Jones had the Patagonian Welsh flag painted at The Turf

and it's something I'm dying to see.

The game I remember most was when the match's commentator

sent me greetings from the stadium.

David Mardones, "Hi, greetings from Welsh Patagonia."

- Wow. - Uh.

"We continue to support Wrexham from my group,

Patagonians of Wrexham support group."

Brilliant. That is a nice one.

[David, in Spanish] That my name was heard in the stadium, for me it was

very beautiful, because it is a way of being present.

It's wonderful to feel, to know that I belong in Wales.

I hope one day I can go.

[Rocio, in Welsh] Even when we were babies, my mother spoke Welsh with us.

This is the main room, the Tea House's original room.

My mother has a lot of tea towels.

There's some...

Mom?

[in Spanish] "Show?"

[Mom, in Welsh] "Dangos."

[in Welsh] They show many different things, like the language,

the country, this is a song.

When I was a kid I asked myself: "Why on earth am I studying Welsh?"

I would love to go to Wales so I can speak Welsh with the people there,

and prove our culture remains alive and well.

Being here in Patagonia, you're so far away that you do feel detached.

Not only from Wales, but from the rest of the world.

[Ker] When Rob and Ryan learnt there was a Welsh-speaking community in Patagonia

and they speak Welsh and maintain many aspects of Welsh culture,

they were, frankly, very surprised.

They were also surprised that many of them had never been to Wales.

So they invited them to Wales for our biggest national holiday,

Saint David's Day.

I was born in Gambia.

I lived there until I was six years old.

For me, it's always been a dream, you know,

to be able to represent my country in the African Cup of Nations.

AFCON is the biggest, um, tournament in-in Africa.

It involves all the best African teams and great stars.

A lot of good players, uh, from all over the world.

We have a lot of great stars

like, uh, Mo Salah, Sadio Mané Victor Osimhen.

I'm-I'm happy to be the first player ever to represent Wrexham in th-the AFCON.

[Ker] When players are called up for international duty,

it's obviously a massive honor for them,

but, um, uh, they can't play for us, the club.

So, you know, we're thrilled for Jacob to be going to AFCON,

but just wanna make sure that, uh, you know, we don't suffer in his absence.

It reminds me a bit of Gambia, though.

It brings back memories from my childhood.

I feel like I belong in Wrexham

because we share the same mentality and the same passion.

But, uh, my plan is, obviously, to end in Gambia when I retire from football.

And, you know, going back to the motherland

and feel like, uh, you are where you belong.

And... And, you know, it is very emotional.

Not just for me and for my family, but for the... My whole tribe, you know?

and, uh, we-we did our best and we put all our effort.

But people were still supporting us and dancing and rapping to us and cheering us.

And, you know, I felt really proud.

When I was six and I was a kid in-in Gambia,

I never thought I'd play for... for Gambia.

Um, now I'm here and, you know, you just stop for a minute and you think,

"I... I got to represent my country."

Right now, this is the peak.

I... I get to play for... for Wrexham, get to play for my country.

It's a massive feeling, that.

So what we've done is partnered up with HP and a publishing company called NABU

to find new and fun ways to get kids

to engage with the Welsh language, uh, through technology.

So they're using a HP device

to color pages of The Lucky Dragon NABU book.

Is it exciting? Have you ever colored in anything like this before?

No.

[Zoe] And we're going to select one of the drawings,

and print a one-off edition for the school

with the selected drawing on the front of the book.

How would you like to meet and see some players?

which is a huge boost to everyone.

It's disappointing, to say the least.

It was just crap.

There's a lot of pressure on Mullin to perform.

He's doing his best.

Is his best good enough at the moment? No.

But that's not his fault alone.

That's a team effort.

[Parkinson] Sometimes things go against you so much

and the mountain is too big to climb,

and it just was today, what with those circumstances.

That was pretty grim.

There's a fifth league defeat. I think seven in total for the season.

I'd probably include the Stockport hammering in that

'cause at least we gave it some sort of go.

Wrexham, the best-performing home team and the worst performing away team.

43 goals and 35 points at home,

but just 11 goals and 17 points on the road.

because we don't lose games in a row.

with-with the way the season's panned out for him personally,

but I think there will be ebbs, there will be troughs.

At some point, probably,

we're going to have a bad season where things are a challenge.

And I think it's incredibly important

that we all collectively are mentally prepared for that.

there's an expectation on Wrexham to win every game.

It really is crisis mode for Wrexham right now, isn't it?

[commentator 7] Well, it's a long time since Wrexham failed to score at home.

and the clubs below us are quickly narrowing that points gap, aren't they?

We've had three years of pretty much un... uh, untrammeled success,

and this is probably the first time that our form has dipped.

Um, I've been struck by, uh, the speed at which people have looked

to call for the head of the manager or write off players.

He's a dinosaur. He won't change the way he plays.

He won't bring substitutes on till 20 minutes from the end.

He's made changes too late, in my opinion.

With Mullin... Mullin and Fletcher up front... they're getting tired.

What's the answer?

A new manager.

We've got very used to-to years of easy living,

and now the hard times, um, are pinching a little bit.

You can't carry on winning, winning, winning, winning, winning

like we have been doing for two and a bit seasons.

There is gonna be bumps in the road at some stage.

The strength of the squad and the character of the squad

is how you come through them bumps in the road.

I sort of felt like maybe 'cause I hadn't scored for a few games,

gaffer lost faith in me.

I think that's sort of lit a switch in me to take it on the chin and get on with it.

But it's not about me. It's all about the team's success.

[podcaster 3] So often this season, we've been rubbish away from home.

We're great, in fact.

of people that have put bets on us to go up and saying should they cash out,

and, you know, "Have the wheels come off?"

And all that sort of thing.

We're just a bit cursed right now.

Normally, I'd feel confident we can get a result

against one of the worst teams in the league, even away from home.

But at this point, I can't say that I am that confident.

who are looking to go up automatically.

We've got to try and put away teams that are down the bottom of the table.

And so Phil Parkinson has rotated the team around.

Young... What a mistake by Young, and now Wrexham are under pressure here.

Right now, we are in the lowest point of our entire tenure.

I'm not a football expert. So what the fuck do I know?

But I can't... No one can seem to figure out what is going wrong.

Certainly, our away form has been a little trashy,

but goddamn it, I love this club with every cell in my body, and I wanna...

It's like I die when they lose.

[commentator 16] There's not much time left. The ref...

Awful challenge.

Mullin was after it. A two-footed challenge, just lunging in.

That is from us giving away a silly goal in the third minute

But after 3,000 miles, I started getting chills

when we finally crossed the border.

Wrexham! Wrexham! Wrexham!

[David, in Spanish] As we got closer and closer to the Racecourse,

my heart was beating faster and faster.

It's what I always dreamed of...

I'm trying to take in every moment.

After the longest wait, I got to meet my friend Paul Jones,

who helped me set up the Patagonia fan group.

[Paul Jones, in Welsh] Welcome to Wrexham. Welcome to the Racecourse.

[David, in Spanish] The meeting with Paul was very moving

because I only knew him by

photos, by videos, by WhatsApp,

and seeing him was very exciting because

he is the one that has helped me most to get to know the club

for years and I owe him.

[Paul Jones] I got David the shirt last year.

I posted it in the local post office in Wrexham.

The pure excitement on his face came shining through when he got it.

I was so, so please when got it.

[in Spanish] My wife Tamara tells me, "Your Wrexham shirt arrived!"

She sent me the photo, it was very exciting.

I don't have words to explain it because

it's like a little piece of here,

and I take it wherever I go.

[Paul Jones] It strikes a chord with us here,

knowing that we've got friends on the other side of the world.

They think about Wales and where they came from.

And we think about them too.

[David, in Spanish] When we were in the stadium, the players came to say hello.

The players also brought a t-shirt which they autographed,

as a special gift that I'll bring to Patagonia.

Then, to visit the Turf and see my brick with my own eyes was just surreal.

It doesn't get better than that.

I was overwhelmed.

[Reynolds] Look, the truth is our boys are a little down right now.

We haven't been playing our best, and that can take a toll on morale.

Not just on the team but throughout the whole town.

So we've sent in the big dog, Mr. Rob McElhenney.

I wish I could there myself,

but unfortunately, I'm currently ensnared in an edit suite

making sure Rob doesn't seem better than me in Deadpool,

which I just unfortunately had to cut him out of.

Is this how he finds out?

- [fan] Can my sons get a photo with you? - Of course.

[McElhenney] It just felt like the right time to visit Wrexham

and spend some time with the team and the people.

Because strikers in particular thrive on confidence,

and confidence comes from scoring goals.
