[WARREN GLOWATSKI] Previously on Under the Bridge...

I got something on Kelly Ellard.

- [SHUTTER SNAPS] - And I have a witness who saw everything.

Warren Glowatski.

Rebecca? Are-Are you sure I can wear this?

[REBEECCA GODFREY] Yeah. Fits you perfectly.

Kelly kept Reena's boots.

- How did Warren do it? - I don't know.

If you lie, Dusty, this could ruin your life.

Did Warren tell you that both he and Kelly

dragged Reena into the water or just Kelly?

Both of them.

[TIRES SCREECH]

You're under arrest. For the murder of Reena Virk.

What are you doing? He's a fuckin' kid!

She told me Warren dragged Reena into the water.

And if he did, it was a fuckin' mistake!

You didn't want justice. You wanted material.

That is a fucked up thing to say.

This might be a story to you.

It's fucking terrifying to me!

[CAR DOOR SLAMS]

[? SOFT, OMINOUS MUSIC PLAYING]

[? NEWS THEME ON TV]

[NEWSCASTER] And now, a special report from Vincent Dardick

on the Reena Virk murder trial.

Four months ago, on the night of November 14th,

it was under this bridge that the murder

of 14-year-old Reena Virk began.

A fight took place right here in this very spot.

Six teenagers, now infamously known as "The Shoreline Six",

swarmed Virk and beat her savagely, leaving her bloody and bruised.

Earlier today, the four teenagers who beat Virk

and then left the scene were found guilty of aggravated assault,

each sentenced to one year in the Youth Custody Center of Victoria,

a co-ed juvenile detention facility.

I think they deserved their punishment, but...

uh, they'll be free one day

with a second chance at life.

My daughter won't get that.

I'll never see her again. I...

I pray that the families of these children

help them understand that difference.

Look, we're very pleased with the outcome, but make no mistake,

the other two culprits bear the brunt of responsibility here.

[VINCENT DARDICK] Those other two culprits,

who allegedly followed Virk to finish the job,

Warren Glowatski and Kelly Ellard,

are each charged with second-degree murder.

Glowatski is set to take the stand this coming Monday.

Ellard's trial is to follow.

If rumor is all that's needed to put young lives behind bars,

frankly, this country is doomed. Thank you. That's all.

One woman is making sure to capture it all.

Rebecca Godfrey, a writer from New York City,

has signed a book deal with Simon & Schuster.

I've gotten to know Warren a little bit.

And there's a very public discussion

about the lack of evidence in Warren's case.

And if we're not measuring someone's guilt based off of evidence,

then what are we measuring?

What a bunch of fuckin' nonsense.

[REBECCA] [ON TV] Warren's a kid with no resources.

Kelly Ellard comes from a powerful family.

She has the best lawyer in BC.

If no one is recognizing that imbalance,

then we're not really getting justice for Reena Virk.

So, I think it's gonna become a debate about Warren's humanity.

[? OMINOUS MUSIC PLAYING]

_

[SPEAKER] [ON PHONE] Yeah, nothin' I can do.

Park's gonna take it.

??

What do I do, Dad? I live here.

[WARREN'S DAD] Ah, you'll, uh, look, you'll find somewhere.

What are they gonna do with all our stuff?

[WARREN'S DAD] Well, if there's somethin' you want,

you better take it now.

Listen, uh, the woman I told you about, from Circus Circus?

I'm marryin' her, uh, live down here, you know, for good.

Okay.

[WARREN'S DAD] Mm, so, you wanna come?

I don't know. I like View Royal.

I don't wanna leave Samara.

[WARREN'S DAD] Yeah, alright, it's better you finish school.

Hey, listen, I gotta go.

They're, they're comin' to take the place at noon.

[DIAL TONE]

[DEEP BREATHING]

[SIGHS]

[BOTTLES CLANGING]

[SIGHS, SNIFFLES]

- [DEEP INHALE] - [POPS TOP]

[? SOMBER MUSIC PLAYING]

- [GRUNTS] - [GLASS SHATTERS]

[HEAVY BREATHING]

[REBECCA] "It was November 14th, the day Reena Virk would be killed,

"and Warren Glowatski had just become homeless.

"Warren, like most kids, didn't know how to describe what he was feeling.

"Warren did not know there were words like humiliation and shame.

"So, he thought it was maybe anger.

This emotion that he felt when he did things he would later regret."

[REPORTER] [ON TV] This coming Monday will be a pivotal moment

- in the Reena Virk murder trial, - [ARGUING]

as Warren Glowatski is set to take the stand...

[ARGUING]

I can't believe they're not saying my name.

- Turn that shit off, Jo. - [JOSEPHINE BELL] Are you kidding?

We're on Channel 7.

- I mean, at least you are. - [WARREN] I don't care.

I don't wanna hear about it.

[REPORTER] [ON TV] ...crime which shocked the country last November.

What the fuck? I was watching that!

[WARREN] Yeah, and I can't even fuckin' sleep!

I keep havin' nightmares about her.

Glowatski! You got a visitor.

Today?

[BUZZER BLARING]

[DOOR SLAMS]

[SIGHS]

Is that your bodyguard?

[SOFT LAUGH]

What's wrong?

Nothing, I'm fine.

You just, um...

you don't usually come on weekends, so...

I thought you were my dad or, or Samara.

[REBECCA] She still hasn't visited?

[WARREN] She doesn't wanna talk to me.

[WHISPERS] I got weed from Connor.

- Nice. - [GIGGLES]

Yeah, is it helpin' you sleep?

Uh, I think so.

It's helping my anxiety.

- Pot's good at that. - Yeah.

And I went to the donut place.

- You went to the donut place! - I got a donut.

- Okay. - It was very good.

- They're the best. - I was very high,

but it might've been the best donut I've ever had.

- I told you! - [BOTH LAUGH]

Was, um...

was anyone at Connor's or...

Yeah, Dimitri was there, and he wanted me to tell you

he said hi and that he misses you.

I miss him, too.

I think he said he was gonna get a, um,

- basketball scholarship. - What?

That's amazing. Shit. Um... [SNIFFLES]

we always joked about goin' to the same college.

I never did my homework though, so...

I guess that all doesn't really matter now.

You're gonna have a life.

This isn't over yet.

[WARREN] I don't know.

[REBECCA] Are you worried about Monday?

I don't think how I'm feeling matters.

What if they trick me into saying the wrong things?

Well, they're not gonna trick you into saying the wrong things

if you tell the truth.

Kelly is responsible for this, Warren.

Yeah. I just...

I don't know.

I just know no matter what I say up there,

everyone's gonna look at me like I'm a monster.

[REBECCA] That's not true.

Every single person I've talked to loves you.

Not Reena's parents.

It's because they don't know you.

[SAMARA BAILEY] [ON TAPE] I-I remember because

Warren said that he saw Reena's back...

and it was really hairy.

[CLICKS]

That's what we need. Samara has to say it just like that on the stand.

Well, that's a problem.

Last we heard, she's with her mom somewhere in Northern Alberta?

[STAN LOWE] That's convenient. Skipping town right before she testifies

- in her boyfriend's trial? - It's for cancer treatments.

- Her mom got diagnosed a month ago. - Well, how do we get her back in time?

- This girl's our most important witness. - [SCOTT BENTLAND] Yeah, we're trying.

- We haven't been able to reach her. - So keep trying. We need to get her back.

Well, we might not need her. Remember Dusty Pace?

I told you about her. She's serving time at YCC.

- Yeah, yeah. - [ROY BENTLAND] Okay.

She claims that Glowatski told her everything, every detail...

[CAM BENTLAND] Yeah, "claims".

Look, it's hearsay at best. Dusty's never gonna take the stand.

Not when she's threatened with contempt of court.

Then she will.

Cam, why don't you go see her? Talk to her.

She's not gonna talk to me now.

Hey, Dusty Pace was your play. You should see this through.

[SIGHS]

Have you figured out a way to get me outta here?

I know this has all been extremely frustrating for you.

Why can't you just pay them, like in the movies?

Sweetie, you were charged without bail.

We are asking the court to reconsider

and not try you as an adult.

Now, if we win,

you might be allowed to stay at home until your trial.

But it's not fair.

- I'm just a little girl. - [ADRIAN BROOKS] I know that, Kelly.

And it's my job to make the Crown consider that, too.

No, I can't.

I can't. This place is hell.

They won't let me talk to anyone. Not even Jo.

Look at what the other kids taped up on my wall.

_

Are they isolating you from the others?

Yes.

Kelly.

Do you feel at all unsafe here?

Like, your life could be in danger?

??

[REPORTER] [ON TV] After the Crown lost their key witness, Samara Bailey,

- the boy's fate will come down... - [MAYA] Yo, I can't believe we gotta eat

- this shit another eight months. - [LAILA] We could do a hunger strike.

[MAYA] For real.

- [WHISPERS] Jo. - [WHISPERS] What?

- Jo, I can't see. - Josephine!

_

Hello?

- What'd it say? - Nothing.

- Nothing? - [MAYA] You suspicious motherfucker.

[KEYS JINGLING]

[REBECCA] Two o'clock. Here's my badge.

And last time I put money, um,

for his commissary, it didn't go through, so I don't know.

[OFFICER] I'll handle that. You're good to go.

[JINGLING KEYS]

[BUZZER BLARING]

[DOOR SHUTS, LOCKS]

I, um, I heard you're a real favorite in here.

I just keep to myself.

They got a library here.

You read Lord of the Rings?

I'm on the second book. It's pretty cool.

- You should check it out. - [BED CREAKS]

Yeah, maybe.

[SIGHS]

Dusty, you're being asked to testify at Warren's trial.

[SIGHS]

Okay.

When do I have to go?

I don't know yet. Trial starts on Monday.

They're gonna ask you about that written statement you made.

About Warren.

How he told you he killed Reena.

Do they know that's not true?

[DEEP SIGH]

[SNIFFLES]

Now, let's say, hypothetically,

that what you wrote on that statement was false.

It was a sworn statement to police.

If you come forward and admit you had lied about it,

that might add more years to your sentence.

So, you're saying I shouldn't testify?

No.

If you refuse, then we'll hold you in contempt of court.

That could mean more time.

But if, but if I go up there and I testify

and I say everything on that statement is t-true, then...

that's a lie.

Yeah.

It's called perjury.

So, I'm screwed either way?

I'm sorry.

I just...

[SIGHS] I wanted you to know what was going on...

so you could, uh...

[SOFT LAUGH]

so you could decide.

Reena-Reena trusted me.

She trusted me...

[SHUDDERS] 'cause [STAMMERS] we were friends and...

[SOBS]

if-if I had had her back that night, then...

she'd still be here, so.

[INHALES]

Whatever happens to me, I just wanna do the right thing.

??

[JOSEPHINE] You better not snitch on Kelly at your trial.

Just say you went home after the fight.

Do you think Samara will stay with me if I go to prison?

[JOSEPHINE] Probably not.

Like, how are you even supposed to go on a date?

Maybe if it was just for a couple years.

We could be together when I get out.

I wouldn't wait for you.

And if you don't say anything at all,

no one can prove you were there. And you'll probably get off.

Then you can be with Samara forever.

[? OMINOUS MUSIC PLAYING]

_

[CHARLES GODFREY] "Never has a boy looked more as if he wandered out of a fairytale.

"His expression was longing and always, always hopeful.

"Despite his fascination with gangs

"and his tempestuous domestic situation,

"Warren was undeniably...

innocent."

What do you think?

He did it, right?

[REBECCA] Maybe. We don't really know,

but these are also true things about him.

[SIGHS]

This isn't a criticism, but I'm curious why...

his is the perspective you chose.

Because I'm challenging the reader to see that

the worst thing he did isn't who he is.

People can do horrible things and that doesn't make them inherently evil.

And I don't know what the alternative is other than me writing a sad story

about a girl I didn't know.

I noticed Reena's nowhere in these pages, Becca.

What does that mean?

Well, it's pretty clear that you're avoiding her in this.

[REBECCA] Raj told me that the Virks basically want me

to choose between Warren and Reena.

And?

[SIGHS] And...

I don't feel comfortable doing that.

You don't feel comfortable doing it,

or you don't wanna hear what they have to say?

[RADIO HOST 1] How are they gonna do this kid in?

They have no proof Warren did anything.

- Nobody is coming forward as a witness. - [SIGHS]

They should just throw this thing out.

[RADIO HOST 2] He was there. Didn't lots of people see him kick her?

[RADIO HOST 1] Yeah, but who's gonna say that in court?

I'm sure Reena's dad is thrilled

nobody's talking about him touching his daughter

because we're all focused on this one boy.

[RADIO HOST 2] Please, stop changing the subject...

[RADIO HOST 1] I mean, you ask me, the Crown is just looking for a scumbag

- to go down for this... - [SHUTS OFF RADIO]

- [RAIN PATTERING] - [COUGHS]

[MANJIT VIRK] Please.

Thank you for having me.

I appreciate you agreeing to speak with me.

I know it's not the easiest thing to do.

Raj says you've been very kind.

He seems to trust you.

Well, he's been... kind.

And we have a lot more in common than I would've thought.

I want you to know that I think what the media are saying

about the allegations against you is horrible,

and I would never print that, Mr. Virk.

Thank you.

[SUMAN VIRK] We saw you in that piece on TV.

You said that you want justice for my daughter.

You think that your book can really do that?

Well, I think that's a lotta pressure, but I-I think it's important

that people know the truth about what happened.

What did happen?

I haven't totally put-put that together.

Yet.

[SIGHS] But you said on the news that you've spent time

with Warren Glowatski?

- Yes. - [SUMAN] So,

you're going to write about my daughter

by befriending her killer?

I'm not f-friends with Warren.

Well, what has he said to you?

I think that's what's been difficult with this,

that all the, the kids are kinda saying different things and...

I-I understand that, but I mean,

you're spending time with Warren.

What did Warren tell you?

[REBECCA] I haven't talked to Warren about that night.

I've gotten little pieces here and there from, from the, the different kids,

but nothing I would confidently be able to...

- to share. - What about Reena?

Uh, what did her friends say about her?

About who she was?

[CLOCK TICKING]

To be honest with you, nobody I've talked to has...

really had...

much insight into who Reena was.

I spoke with a teacher who said that, um...

that she seemed like she was lonely.

For someone wanting to write a book about my daughter,

you don't really know much, do you?

[? MELANCHOLY MUSIC PLAYING]

[INDISTINCT CHATTER]

[MAYA] Yo, the fuck, Kelly?

Jo told us that you're trying to blame us for everything.

[KELLY ELLARD] So?

It's my fuckin' trial. I can say whatever the fuck I want.

You really think they're gonna believe you two and not me?

You're a crazy bitch.

You two start shit with people all the fucking time.

It'll be so easy to say you guys did it.

You're fuckin' sick. You know that?

Yeah? So, hit me.

Come on, pussy, fuckin' hit me.

Come on, hit me. Come on, pussy. Fuckin'...

- [GRUNTS] - [SCATTERED MURMURING]

[KELLY LAUGHS]

What'd she think was gonna happen?

Dumb cunt.

[LAUGHING]

- [GUARD] Hey, what's goin' on? - [CRYING]

Are you okay?

- They're hurting me, please! - [JOSEPHINE] It's true.

I saw the whole thing happen.

[KELLY CRYING]

[DRAMATIC SOBBING]

??

[ROY PANTING]

- [CAM] Hey, Dad. - Oh, hey. [PANTING]

There she is.

[GRUNTS]

[GRUNTING]

Your old man's still got it, huh?

Hey, how'd it go with Pace? She ready?

- [GRUNTS] - Dusty's not testifying.

Oh, she's got no choice. You tell her we'd bury her if she didn't?

[GRUNTS]

No, I'm telling you we're not putting her up.

We need her. She signed a statement that got us to Glowatski.

[PANTING, GRUNTING]

I coerced that statement.

[PANTING]

What now?

I coerced her to say what she did.

I threatened her.

[PANTING]

Cam, mm.

You said what you had to say

to get that statement out of her.

It's still admissible.

[SNIFFS, SIGHS]

What if I forged her signature?

[LAUGHS] That's bullshit. I know you didn't do that.

If you put her up there, I'll have to come forward and admit it.

[SIGHS]

That's a fireable offense, Cam.

[SCOFFS] I know.

So, you gonna fuck your whole career over some Bic girl?

Don't call her that!

Okay, I'm sorry. I'm sorry.

You worked so hard on this case.

Ya can't just throw it all away five feet from the finish line.

- What about Vancouver? - Yeah, what about it?

[? SOMBER MUSIC PLAYING]

So, now what? So, no Dusty Pace,

[PANTING] no Samara Bailey,

Warren Glowatski walks.

What about the Virks? How are they gonna feel about that?

Believe me, I don't want Glowatski to walk.

I'm not gonna make those girls suffer any more than they already have.

Only one girl suffered.

[PUNCHING BAG CREAKING]

Look, we let Glowatski go up.

Let him take what's comin'.

Three kids went across the bridge, two came back.

Let the judge make of that what he wants, not us.

You're starting to sound a lot like Rebecca Godfrey.

??

[RADIO HOST 1] Nobody believes he just sat there

10 feet away while a murder happened.

Kelly Ellard weighs what? Like, 80 pounds?

And did you hear how they found Reena's body?

There's no way Kelly could've done this by herself.

The kid is totally putting on an act.

He's gonna pretend like he was in the wrong place at the wrong time with...

- [MUFFLED RADIO CHATTER CONTINUES] - [GENTLE GURGLING]

[BURBLING]

[SIGHS]

[SIGHS]

[WARREN] Hey.

I-I know you don't wanna talk to us anymore,

but I-I heard you don't have to take the stand.

- Yeah. - [WARREN] How did you, um,

how'd you get out of it?

I don't know.

I didn't do anything.

You know...

I had bad dreams about Reena, too,

when I first got here.

But you know what helped them go away?

Being honest about what I did that night.

We fucked up, and now she's dead.

So, that's the fuckin' least that we owe her.

[? OMINOUS MUSIC PLAYING]

[STAN] Just moments after the Russian satellite exploded in the sky,

Samara Bailey boarded the bus to return home,

and Warren Glowatski met up with his friends under the bridge.

Numerous eyewitnesses have attested

to Warren's involvement in the first fight.

Kicking Reena Virk, a girl he did not even know,

right in the head as she begged for mercy.

But his decision to follow Reena across that bridge

with Kelly Ellard and what transpired that night

are known only to the accused.

Stick to the plan.

No one can tell you what you can or cannot remember.

- [MUFFLED COURT CHATTER FADING OUT] - [? PARTY MUSIC FADING IN]

- [PARTY CHATTER] - [? INDISTINCT RAPPING]

Okay, okay, that's enough.

That's good.

I missed you.

[? INDISTINCT RAPPING CONTINUES]

Yo! Where's Josephine at?

[SMALLS] Hey, somebody's ass 'bout to get rocked!

[CROWD CHEERING]

[JOSEPHINE] Yeah, you better run!

Let's go!

[CHEERING CONTINUES]

- [? TENSE MUSIC PLAYING] - Who was that?

I don't know.

You wanna go watch?

No, Warren.

Yo, who was that?

[CHATTER FADES OUT]

Warren, do you remember the evening of November 14th?

[CLEARS THROAT] Um...

I was, uh, pretty drunk that day.

I just found out we lost our trailer.

So, when it comes to the fight under the bridge involving Reena Virk,

what is your recollection?

I don't really remember anything from that night.

[HUSHED MURMURING]

- No further questions, Your Honor. - [ANGRY MURMURING]

[STAN CLEARS THROAT]

Warren, do you mean to tell the judge today

that you don't remember the moment Reena Virk was beaten

under the Craigflower Bridge?

I was pretty drunk.

[STAN] I see. So, you can't remember what you

and Kelly Ellard did that night?

And no one will ever know what happened to Reena Virk?

Can you live with that?

- I don't know. - [STAN] Come on, look.

Let's just... [SIGHS]

let's just take it slow, okay? Just to help you remember.

Why don't you just tell us what happened the night of November 14th,

as you recall it? Just take your time.

??

It's okay, Warren.

Just tell us the truth, and you got nothin' to worry about.

[? MUSIC BUILDING]

I kinda remember a bunch of people went under the bridge.

- [? MUSIC STOPS] - [DISTANT PARTY CHATTER]

[MAYA] Whoa!

- [TEENS BARKING] - [FIRE CRACKLING]

[LAUGHTER, CHATTER]

Yo, you good?

- I'm good. - [SNORTS]

[DIMITRI] Take a swig of that. Chill out.

[REENA VIRK] ...and we're fucking sick of it.

[JOSEPHINE] Who's we?

[INDISTINCT OVERLAPPING CHATTER]

- [PUNCH LANDS] - [REENA SCREAMS]

- [TEENS GASPING] - [SHOUTING]

- Fuck her up, Kelly! - [GRUNTING]

[GASPS]

What the fuck, Warren?! You don't even know her! Go!

[BLOWS THUDDING]

[ECHOING THUD]

[SNIFFLES]

[SIGHS]

[RUNNING FOOTSTEPS]

[KELLY] Warren!

[PANTING] Warren.

That girl Reena went across the bridge. Let's follow her.

Why?

[KELLY] I wanna make sure she's okay.

I wanna see if she's sorry.

I want her to say she's sorry.

[? OMINOUS MUSIC PLAYING]

Come on. Let's go.

Yeah. Okay.

??

- [? MUSIC FADING OUT] - [QUIET MURMURING]

[SNIFFLING]

[STAN] Warren, I asked what happened when you two got

to the other side of the bridge.

[WARREN] Kelly beat her up some more.

Then she put her in the water,

drowned her.

[ONLOOKERS GASPING, CHATTERING]

[JUDGE CAMPFIELD] That's enough. I said that's enough!

- Quiet, please. - [CHATTER STOPS]

Warren.

Did you touch Reena at any point after she crossed the bridge?

No, sir.

Did you tell Kelly to stop?

- Yes. - [? MUSIC CONTINUES]

Multiple times.

Did you physically try and stop Kelly from drowning Reena?

Um...

no.

[QUIET MURMURING]

[STAN] So, you didn't want her to stop that bad, huh?

That 'cause you liked it?

You liked watching Reena die?

No.

[STAN] Warren.

Did you help Kelly drag Reena's body into the Gorge?

I...

??

I don't wanna say something to incriminate myself.

- [MURMURING] - [STAN] Come on, Warren.

How would you incriminate yourself if you didn't do anything?

[MURMURING CONTINUES]

You did drag Reena, didn't you?

I don't know.

[ONLOOKERS MURMURING]

These are Reena Virk's underwear found in the Gorge.

Did you see these the night Reena Virk was murdered?

I don't know.

[STAN] In Samara Bailey's statement to the police,

she said that you told her

Reena had a really hairy back.

No. No, I-I said...

You just helped drag a girl to her death, and the detail that stuck with you...

is that she had some body hair?

It's because you saw Reena as an animal you could simply kill

without consequence, right?

- No. - [STAN] Tell me, Warren.

For the death of Reena Virk,

on a scale of one to 10, how responsible were you and how much was Kelly?

??

Um...

I guess...

three and seven.

Three and seven?

You were three out of 10?

For doing what?

??

For the kicking on the first side.

Just for being around.

[KNOCKING ON DOOR]

[KNOCKING ON DOOR]

[REBECCA] Can I please come in, Cam?

I can't sleep.

[CAM] Warren, um, he asked me if I would give this back to you.

The night I arrested him.

[SIGHS]

This is Gabe's, isn't it?

Look, uh...

Becca, I can't pretend to know what's going on in your mind, but...

you know that Gabe and Warren are nothing alike.

Of course, I know that.

I just see a boy who needs me.

But I don't understand why it's so crazy

to see the side to him that isn't just

the one horrible mistake he's made in his life.

Becca, you gotta quit calling it a mistake.

You don't think people can do things they wish they didn't do?

[SCOFFS]

[SIGHS]

[? SOFT, SOMBER MUSIC PLAYING]

Do you still think Gabe would be here if it wasn't for me?

[SIGHS]

You know, I...

I was a kid when I said that to you.

I think you still look at me that way.

I don't know. [SIGHS]

[RADIO STATIC]

[REPORTER] [ON RADIO] We're mere minutes away from a verdict

- in the Reena Virk murder trial. - [BUZZER BLARING]

[DOOR OPENS]

Jo!

Guess what?

[QUIETLY] My plan worked.

My lawyer convinced a judge

my life is actually in danger or some shit, so...

I'm goin' home.

[WEAK LAUGH] I thought you said the... plan was to get us out.

I know.

It's just step one.

My lawyer's gonna work on you next, alright?

[? OMINOUS MUSIC PLAYING]

You know Warren said he gets, like, these bad dreams about Reena.

Do you get them too?

He's just an idiot.

So, what's next?

Don't you have to go to your trial?

Oh. Yeah.

So stupid I still have to.

[GUARD] Ellard! Your mother's arrived.

[SIGHS] Thank God.

I know it sucks, but...

you'll be out soon.

C.M.C. for life.

[BUZZER BLARING]

- [? OMINOUS MUSIC CONTINUES] - [CHATTER CONTINUES]

[SIGHS]

Well, at least we now know why this happened.

Reena was not human to him.

Why do you say that?

Did you not hear what he said?

What he remembered about Reena?

You think if Reena had looked like you, he would've done that?

You said on the news you wanted to know why Reena died.

It's because he was angry

and she was there. Someone... weaker.

Someone that didn't matter to him. Someone he could...

sacrifice.

Understanding that is the only way to write about my daughter's life.

[? SOMBER MUSIC PLAYING]

[JUDGE CAMPFIELD] Warren Glowatski, please stand.

Violence is not a recreational activity.

I find Glowatski's testimony incomplete and improbable,

I believe that very little of what he said is true,

and I am satisfied beyond a reasonable doubt

that Glowatski intended to cause Virk bodily harm

and was reckless as to whether death ensued.

As such, I find Glowatski...

guilty of second-degree murder as charged.
