This is Mariam Faraki and she wants to report a murder.
We don't have any proof Hassan was on the ship.
Hometown? I don't think so.
We're up. Body's been found on the wasteland at John's Street. Mr...
Lucas Galloway. We both know that you're still in the business
where a hostile takeover can come with a body count.
We're acting on information that a violent incident
may have taken place on board your ship.
Elsa is our manifest director. Does she know there's a lifeboat missing?
I saw her, she was pregnant.
Let me get the ball rolling with the NRPS, I've got a contact there.
Police are here and they're asking questions.
It's not just any cop, it's my brother.
JAUNTY MUSIC PLAYS
Peace offering.
Just like my mother used to make.
And who you think teach her fi make it?
Some of the best cooks in all of Jamaica run in your bloodline, son.
Mm!
Look. Me never come all this way fi us to argue.
I only want what's best for you.
PHONE BUZZES
Lindo.
All right. I'll be there as soon as possible.
There's been a breakthrough with the case. We can chat later, yeah?
Mm-hm.
Ah, well. Here's it.
How long's it been here?
Some kids called it in to the coastguard last night.
You find anything else?
Coastguard said they had a look around but it was only the lifeboat.
Expecting someone to be in it, like? One of the ships docked here
may have pushed a stowaway overboard.
Can happen sometimes,
usually to avoid costing the shipping company thousands.
If a stowaway is declared,
they're looking at the ship being impounded,
fines, licences being revoked.
Lindo.
So this is one of our main units. Quite a small one, isn't it?
What did you say you were after? We're checking ketamine imports,
specifically weight irregularities.
The weights of everything are checked as they're unloaded.
Any chance it could be tampered with here?
We need to check every possibility.
Three staff sign each consignment in.
Contents and weights need to match purchase orders,
otherwise they're reported.
And have any ketamine weights been off?
Not since I've worked here.
Come on, I'll show you the code system.
Right, so tell me, what did you find? Well, earlier this morning
we received a call from the coastguard. Some schoolchildren
had found a lifeboat that had washed up on the beach.
Anyway, when we arrived,
it turned out the lifeboat contained the Stolthet logo.
It's still not evidence of a crime.
But it corroborates with Mariam's story.
No, all it tells us is that a lifeboat went AWOL from the ship.
A lifeboat that had clothing fibres wrapped in the handles.
It's unlikely to contain any traces of DNA now
but we've sent it off to the lab for testing anyway.
Until we know what happened to Hassan,
we have fi treat this as a possible murder.
But we don't even have any evidence, you know? And upstairs they want
answers on the Galloway case.
We know that the lifeboat came from the Stolthet
and the captain was lying about it.
But we don't know anything even happened.
I mean, we don't even know if the husband even exists.
Look, the facts are is that Mariam lied to us about who she is, OK?
She's got a fake passport, and she's an asylum seeker
so she's willing to say anything, really.
And I'm not saying that I don't understand her reasons,
if that is the case, OK?
But we have a serious murder investigation on our hands
and we just... We don't have the resources,
we cannae police all of the North Sea as well. So we just give up?
I know something happened on the ship, boss! And what?
You're going to go rogue and sneak on again if I don't let you?
HE SIGHS
Oh, your partner here, he decided to do some unofficial investigating.
Oh, did he not tell you he got nabbed?
No. No, he didn't.
Don't we have enough to bring the captain in now?
What's your take on all this, Bart?
Um...
Well, the clothing fibres certainly suggest that Hassan was real,
but that it only ended one way.
Maybe Mariam did lie but the father of her child is probably dead.
We have a duty to find out what happened. Boss,
the crew did not want me on that ship.
If we let them set sail for Norway
we could be letting a murderer go free!
Fine. Bring in the captain
and let's see if we can find out what went down. I'll see
what I can do about impounding the Stolthet for a search. I mean,
if I'm going to get my backside handed to me
we may as well go all-out.
Who wants to start, then?
There was a stowaway on the ship. And you lot let them go?
Captain Neilsen put him in a lifeboat before we could stop him.
Aye. So, we're blaming Neilsen who, as I've heard,
is in a complete state? He's just upset about what happened.
The police picked him up.
They've been sniffing around the ship since yesterday.
Probably running his mouth off as we speak. He's not stupid. No.
Just stupid enough not to notice a stowaway on his boat?!
And I'm guessing this stowaway made it to the shore then, eh?
I doubt it, the sea was rough. Then who told the police? Hmm?
You were talking to Neilsen all night at the bar.
Did he say he was thinking of going to the police?
He wouldn't do that. How can you be sure? He was a mess.
You need to find him. ASAP.
Make sure he keeps his mouth shut.
What are you not telling us?
We're all part of this, we need to get control of it.
If you know something, tell us.
Well, Neilsen told me that, erm...
..the man wasn't alone. There was a woman, too.
He found her.
But he let her go.
She could identify you all.
There were no stowaways on my ship.
You lie about the lifeboat.
You tell us all was accounted for
but one washed up on the shore this morning.
No, I didn't. I mean, they were all there when we left Stavanger,
I don't know how that happened.
It was empty, Captain.
We think you did find a stowaway but because it could've cost you
your job, you put him on the lifeboat and cast him out to sea.
No. That didn't happen.
So we did some digging on you, Captain.
On the companies you previously worked for.
And in 2014 on a voyage between Norway and Holland
you declared a stowaway. So what happened this time?
Him fight back a bit too hard? Your crew teach him a lesson?
Yes, I did declare a stowaway.
Which proves I would never put someone overboard, right?
Unless there was a good reason to.
Him try steal something from the cargo?
For the purpose of the recording, Captain Neilsen is shaking his head.
What were you carrying? Er, hardware, food, minerals.
Mmm-mmm-mmm-mmm.
We have a witness. A stowaway who was also on your ship,
with a man who then just...disappeared.
Your witness is lying.
Is she also lying about you telling her to be quiet when you found her?
What's wrong, Captain?
You couldn't bring yourself to put a pregnant woman overboard as well?
Are we done here?
The NRPS have got multiple procedures in place,
including weight checks, code-locked containers, the lot.
Yeah, no reports of any ketamine discrepancies at all.
Any thoughts on next steps? We could do some digging into Galloway
and the McFadden Family Group, the property business,
see if it's as legit as Grace makes out.
Good call, Mallick.
All right, get crackin'.
KNOCK ON DOOR
Hey, Katie. Hiya. Mind if we come in? Yeah, come on.
Have you found Hassan?
A lifeboat washed up from the ship we were on this morning
and it contains some clothing fibres. But no sign of Hassan.
That doesn't mean he's dead, though. He...
He could have been picked up by another boat.
It's not impossible but... You haven't found his body
so there's still a chance. You need to keep looking.
You told us when we first met that Hassan had been murdered.
He was fighting with the people on the boat,
I heard their voices but I don't know what they were saying.
It was in another language. But what makes you think it was murder?
Isn't putting someone out at sea without a chance murder?
The lifeboat means we were able to identify the ship you were on.
You recognise this man?
I'm not sure, it was so dark.
He might have been the one that told you to keep quiet.
PHONE BUZZES
DS Bartlett. Yeah.
MacMillan wants us at the harbour.
If you need anything, just call.
Any reason you hardly say a word to me all morning?
Seeing as you like investigating on your own,
I'll leave you to figure it out. I knew you wouldn't let it go.
I am doing everything I can to get to DI.
You're doing everything you can to stop me! That's ridiculous.
I was trying to find a lead.
On your lonesome, breaking every code possible?
And what about you and Mariam? What about it?
Oh, give me a break, Bart.
We basically tell her Hassan is as good as dead
and you were never sensitive with the information.
I was doing my job. OK.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry about sneaking on the ship.
Me never tell you because if you were involved
it could affect your promotion. No. You never told me cos you knew
I would have stopped you.
Er...and that as well.
We're backed up to the hilt as it is and I don't think
you fully appreciate how busy this harbour gets!
OK, well, it's just a search. We'll try and not take too long.
Press'll have a field day
when they hear we've impounded a ship for nae good reason.
We're investigating a missing person
so I would say that is a good enough reason.
The Stolthet will remain under our custody until you hear otherwise.
And I'll have a bay full of hybrid ships
waiting to get their batteries recharged.
Are your officers going to take custody of that as well?
Aye, I thought as much.
Mariam couldn't ID the captain.
Right. Well, let's hope we can find something on here, then.
Right.
What've you got? So we find the hiding place Mariam described,
now SOCOs are out searching for evidence
but we no think we not gon' find nothing. Why not?
There was a strong smell of bleach
all throughout that area of the lower deck.
So we've got nothing? Well, the ship Mariam travelled on
transports a variety of goods including pharmaceutical containers,
and according to the manifest
one of them happens to be a bucket-load of ketamine.
Oh!
Ordered by the North Regions Procurement Service
for NHS Aberdeenshire.
We think this is connected to the Galloway case, boss.
Whoa, OK, wait a minute. It's one hell of a coincidence,
but if that shipment was headed for the NRPS,
there was no ketamine missing.
Yeah, we've had the bill of lading and the purchase orders
for the last two years, weights always match.
Well, maybe somebody's replacing the ketamine with something else,
you know, just to make sure of that. Mmm. Unlikely.
The products are checked by three people at the NRPS warehouse
when they arrive and then at the relevant NHS drop-off points.
Maybe it was tampered with on the ship?
But every container has its own secure keypad
and the codes are only shared between the pharma company
in Norway and the NRPS here.
The codes would change with every shipment.
No, no, no. Right, let's not give up just yet.
Right, Monty, Mallick, I want you
to look into the export side of things in Norway, OK?
See if their checks are as rigorous as ours.
See if there's any other boats that are bringing in ketamine as well.
Yes, boss.
Bart. Lindo. Let's bring the captain back in.
Got some more questions about his precious cargo.
How we doing, Pierce?
Oh, forget that for now.
Mike's just going to fix the tap.
No, what we would like you to do
is tell us who supplies you with CK.
Is this some kind of a test or something?
Start with the pinkie. No, no, no, no! Wait, wait, wait, wait!
I don't get it! I don't...
No, no, stop. Please, please, stop, please.
You've got one chance
and one chance only to give me a name.
Argh, I don't understand, I don't understand!
I get it from you. I get it from you.
I get it from you.
Neilsen?!
Captain Neilsen? It's the police.
Bart, I can hear water.
Go.
Captain Neilsen?! Neilsen?
Neilsen?
Whoa.
Call it in.
Thanks.
Anything? Hmm, he left a note.
Think it's legit?
You saw his face when we told him Hassan wasn't on the lifeboat. Mm.
Also...I found this.
It belongs to Mariam.
Well.
At least we know he's not going to open his mouth to anyone else.
You wanted him dead. He's saved us a job, then, hasn't he?
Saved us a job?! Can you calm down, OK?
Nobody's getting arrested,
we've got the drugs,
and your ship, it can go back to Norway.
What about the girl?
We don't know if she saw us going into the container,
or if she saw what we did to the man.
If she's an eyewitness we could all go to prison.
Then you need to track her down. How?
We don't know her name or anything about her.
And what if she did see what we did? What then?
She's a pregnant woman!
Who could potentially put you all away for a very long time.
Are you willing to take that chance?
If the police do have her, we got no chance of finding her.
Aye, we do.
Hey. All right?
What did the pharma company say about their export quantities?
They're still pulling up the files. 20 minutes on hold so far.
MUSIC PLAYS FAINTLY
This music, man. Well, it looks like the Stolthet
is the only boat that's bringing ketamine legally into Scotland,
so maybe there's another boat smuggling it in,
in which case we are looking for a needle in a haystack.
Oh. Good.
But I did potentially bring something up on Galloway, though.
I reckon he was laundering the CK cash through Grace's properties.
An audit from last year threw up some unexpected rapid repayments
on Newton Village in Dyce and Ashton Grange.
Newton Village? You know, the property...
Hiya! No, no. No, I'm still here.
Do you have the bill of lading at your end as well?
Perfect. Would you email that to me, please?
Thank you. Oh, and could you give me
the ketamine weight for the shipment in September?
Sorry, could you say that again?
What about the one in June?
That's not the same as...
Sorry, um...
Whose name is on the purchase orders?
Well, at least this proves that Mariam was on the boat.
And the captain's note proves something happened to Hassan.
Yeah, but there's no direct link to him so...
Means it's circumstantial.
You should have seen Captain Neilsen when we tell him
the lifeboat washed up and Hassan never make it.
Maybe he felt some guilt about fuelling this ketamine operation.
I mean, the dangers of CK have been all over the news recently.
A talented art student died from it just last week.
What, so you two still believe that this is linked to the Galloway case?
100%.
Well, Monty and Mallick, they're not convinced. I mean,
they cannae see any sign of ketamine going missing from the Stolthet.
Me not know how the captain do it yet but it gives us motive
as to why him put Hassan overboard.
Are we sure it was suicide?
There's no sign of any forced entry or defensive wounds.
Yeah, but if Neilsen was part of the CK ring,
could have been his accomplices.
I mean, maybe they found out that he was talking to us?
Yeah. Possibly. OK. Look, it must've been pretty grim
for you two finding him like that today, so why don't we take a break
and we'll start back fresh tomorrow?
We need to find evidence that links Captain Neilsen to Galloway.
Oh, and, Davis?
I want to see that case tab on your desk when I leave tonight, OK?
Go and spend some time with your dad. Hmmm,
him been gettin' 'pon my nerves, boss.
Have you not been showing him the sights of Aberdeen? Nah.
Maybe Bart can help you with that.
Actually, I can think of something even better.
W-what are you looking for?
The lease. For this place? It should be in there somewhere.
Why do you need it?
Is something wrong? No. No, nothing's wrong, I just
need to check that it covers things getting fixed and that.
Nothing's broken, Jaiy.
The light on the landing, it's been out for ages.
Nazir reported that. Look, don't worry.
I can manage.
How, um...
How did he find this place again?
He heard about it through a friend. Which friend? I don't know. Why?
Just curious. I never asked him at the time, so...
Jaiy. What is going on?
Nothing. I'll be through in a minute. I'll stick the kettle on.
Always lock your car.
What you doin', Duncan?!
Need a favour.
What kind of favour? There was a stowaway on the boat.
The police have her.
We need to know where she is. I can't help you with that.
But you're related to someone who can.
Whoa! I mean, come in. Come in!
I'll take that as a compliment.
My goodness, somebody is dressed to kill.
Ah, as will you be, in a moment.
So this is why you need our measurements.
Where we a go? I have got us three tickets
to the hottest hooley in town. Hooley?
Oh, not a chance.
Is this a joke? If you want to experience Scottish culture
then a ceilidh is the best place to do it.
100% not happening.
Who said I wanted to experience Scottish culture?
It's just a big party with some very organised dancing
that you'll be forced to take part in.
What the hell is this? That's for storing your superpower.
Excuse me, young lady?
Whisky, dafties.
Ah...
Why are the socks so thick? Because it's Scotland
and if you hadn't already noticed by now
it's bloody freezing most of the time.
So why are you making me wear a skirt?
It come wit a weapon? Oh! That's a sgian-dubh.
And it's just for show.
Right! Come on, then. Chop chop!
Hey. Mum OK? Yeah, she's having a lie-down.
Did you report that landing light that's out?
Yeah, last week or something. I'll get on at them again.
That's OK, I can do it.
Who's the lease with? Mum said it was a friend of yours.
More a friend of a friend. What friend?
What's the property company called?
Cops... Copse Bay...
Whoa! Why are you lying to me, Naz? What? I'm not lying.
Then why does it say on Mum's lease
that this place belongs to the McFadden Family Group?!
You're doctoring purchase orders through the NRPS.
Stealing ketamine from a Norwegian boat for scum
to produce the most harmful drug
that's ever been on the streets of Aberdeen! Eh?!
What's the matter, Naz, eh?
You afraid Mum will hear who you really are?! I can explain, Jaiy.
Yeah, well, you better start now. I met...
I met Duncan McFadden at hospitality for a home game.
Duncan? He's nobody in the McFadden clan. We-we got talking,
he found out what I did at the NRPS,
said he wanted to get into the pharma trade...
You never go into business with people... I had no idea who he was.
It was an opportunity, consultancy work, he said,
it was a chance to clear some debt to look after Mum. Clear some debt?
We could never afford somewhere like this,
with all this stuff she needs, or the nurses, the carers...
No, no, don't you DARE put this on Mum!
I had to take care of it all because what were we going to do? Eh?
Were you going to give up your job?
Be her full-time carer? Oh, you care so much, Naz. The only reason
we can both go to work every day is because Duncan gave me a loan
and a deal on this place. A loan?
Once he had his hooks in, he wouldn't leave me alone.
Jaiy, Jaiy. He threatened me, Mum and the kids. I had no choice.
You always have a choice! You should have come to me.
He said he'd hurt you as well.
Did you give him the code for the containers so they can steal it
from the boat? Tell me!
That's how I was supposed to repay the loan.
But he'll never let me out now!
Why was Galloway killed?
Who the hell is Galloway? Don't you dare lie.
Ah! The weights, they don't match on the exports
and your name is on the purchase orders!
Somebody else on my team could easily find out.
Not if you help me. What? We could cover it up,
just make it go away. Just let me think! Jaiy, Jaiy, Jaiy, please.
Will you shut up?! Shut up!
Jaiy, please. Move!
If you tell anybody, we're all dead!
DOOR CLOSES
UPBEAT CEILIDH MUSIC
MUSIC ENDS
Now...now I see why we need the knife.
Oh, stop it! Someone birled you a couple of times, that was it.
Don't think I don't realise this whole charade
is just so you can fuss in all my business.
Ah... I'm trying to help you to reconnect.
Reconnect? We don't need to reconnect.
That was magnificent. Thanks, Grantley.
I'm glad one of you is enjoying themselves.
Shall I get us another round? No, it's my turn
and I'll get some shots, too.
Has he always been this uptight?
He was the total opposite as a boy.
Really? Ah!
Er...
Look.
Oh, ho-ho-ho! Look at that smile!
He was always having a carry-on when he was likkle.
Playing jokes on people. Belly laughing.
Take it he wanted to follow in your footsteps? Well, no.
He did want to be a cowboy when he was three. Heh!
Things sorta changed after his mother died.
Oh.
I'm so sorry.
He's done well to find his feet over here.
It will never be home, though. What makes you say that?
Well, it's not Jamaica.
He's happy here, though, isn't he? Not really.
That's why he's coming back with me after he graduates.
NEW SONG BEGINS
WOMAN: Do ye fancy a dance?
I'm not surprised you're hungover, the amount you drank last night.
And you've skilfully managed to avoid talking to me lately.
I don't want no argument. All right. Then let's agree not to.
Cool.
You might be finishing your training soon and both of we know you have to
work twice as hard over here because of how you come here.
Er, for now, maybe.
Back home we have four guys retiring.
With your experience from here you could be fast-tracked,
promoted in a year.
I want to work for my place. I don't want it handed to me.
Stop being so proud. It's a chance to climb the ladder.
But I came here to carve my own path.
And you have! But now you need to think about your long-term future.
Can you really see yourself in Aberdeen for the rest of your life?
Duncan?
Why don't you and Ruth come round to mine for dinner on Sunday?
Sounds good. Feel like I've hardly seen you lately.
How you doing? You seem tired.
Just all this stuff with Lucas has put a lot on all our plates.
Duncan...
I know you assume that I thought more of him than you
but that was never the case.
I promised your dad I'd keep you on the straight and narrow.
But it was all right for him to be all-in?
We had a different life.
We were brought up in it. Your dad wanted something better for you.
I can make my own choices, thanks.
Absolutely. And I respect that.
So let me all-in.
The further we are away from it all, the more they cannae touch us.
So you've been doing me a favour? Yeah.
You know I'm always here for you. Aye. I know.
Appreciate it.
We good?
Course. Better shoot. I've got a meeting.
RINGING TONE
It's me.
Get eyes on him.
Ah, someone is in early. Yeah.
Trying to find a link between Captain Neilsen and Lucas Galloway.
Look at this. Neilsen's flat is owned by Middlegrove Homes,
which is a subsidiary company of...
The McFadden Family Group.
Whoa.
The note was a match for Neilsen's handwriting.
So it was definitely suicide. LINDO YAWNS
Keeping you up, Lindo?
Sorry, boss, a bit of an unexpected night.
Lightweight.
Right. Any links between Galloway and Captain Neilsen?
Yes, as a matter of fact.
Neilsen's flat is owned by a subsidiary company
of the McFadden Family Group.
And Galloway's listed as a company director.
The captain's living there rent-free. There we have it.
The two cases ARE connected. So are we saying Galloway
and Captain Neilsen ran the CK business, then? Well, looks like it.
We think that Hassan interrupted the drug theft on the boat,
which meant that they couldn't declare him
and so they put him overboard, not realising that Mariam was hiding.
Then when Neilsen did find Mariam,
he couldn't bring himself to do the same and so he let her go.
That's a good motive for what happened to Hassan
but Mallick and I checked out both sides of the shipping.
It's all legit. Yeah. Yeah, bang-on.
So how could they be running a CK operation
if there's no ketamine missing?
It's the only boat that brings it into Scotland.
They had security on duty, CCTV everywhere
and no access to keys or codes. Only the importers and exporters do.
No-one touched the container.
In that case it has to be stolen while it's on the ship.
So, we can connect Neilsen
to our murder victim via the property he rented,
also the fact that we now know
Galloway was killed by a lethal injection of CK
and Neilsen's boat was importing ketamine.
We suspect that they were both
running the CK drugs operation together
because Galloway had access to cocaine through the McFaddens.
Mariam and Hassan were also on Neilsen's boat,
and Hassan is now missing, presumed dead.
So we've got links all over the shop but...
..no physical evidence of anything.
Yeah, and if Neilsen was stealing from the ship
he's not going to be doing it on his lonesome.
Maybe his crew was helping him.
Or maybe they got wind of what he was up to and that's why he's dead.
He was putting them all at risk.
Let's find out.
Bring them in.
Your crew members tell me you were in charge of the cargo ship.
If something go wrong with a container,
you have the passcodes. No.
If we need a code we have to radio in to the port authority,
and they authorise it from the exporter.
It's all recorded, you know, you can check.
Elsa, your colleagues claim you're in charge of all documentation.
Anything ever seem strange to you
about the paperwork for the pharmaceutical containers?
No. Why?
Well, we suspect ketamine was being stolen from one of your shipments.
How would that be possible?
What does your job as marine mate on the Stolthet involve?
I am the navigator, so I assist the captain with positioning,
direction, speed. You must have been shocked at his death.
Of course.
I don't understand why he would do it.
Well, my detectives found a note at his flat.
Said that something serious had happened on board.
I'm not sure what that would be.
What you do after the ship come into Aberdeen?
Went straight to my hotel.
Why was Captain Neilsen in your car when you left the dock?
I dropped him off at his place first.
He doesn't drive.
Tell us about the process of the bill of lading for the cargo.
Um, well, it starts with exporters in Norway,
they pass it to the freight carriers, who then give it to me,
and it's added to the manifest.
I pass it to the carriers in Scotland when we arrive.
And from there it goes to the relevant distribution centre
to be matched with a purchase order?
It's not my job to follow it after it leaves the ship.
Excuse me, are you accusing me
of being part of this ketamine smuggling?
Is it part of your duty to make sure that all the lifeboats are there,
working order? Yes.
And before we left Stavanger they were all accounted for.
But then I noticed that one was missing just as we were
coming into Aberdeen. And I asked the captain about it but he...
He just told me to mind my own business.
Do you remember seeing anybody on the ship
who shouldn't have been there? Anybody in the cargo containers?
Our captain already told you. Yeah. And now he's dead.
Were you or have you ever been involved in any drugs operation
on board the Stolthet? Drugs operation? On our ship?
Huh! That's insane.
What about stowaways?
We never had any. We have an eyewitness who says otherwise.
I don't like what you're accusing me of.
We haven't accused you of anything. Yet.
I want a lawyer. Well, you're just helping us with our inquiries.
I said I want a lawyer.
Sorry, boss. Sorry, team. Um...
So, Axel admit in our interview that him give Neilsen a lift home
to his flat at Harbour Point. But claimed to go straight back
to his hotel after dropping him off so...
..I checked out the CCTV in the area,
but the two of them enter the building and, as you can see,
Axel is carrying a holdall.
That's got to be the ketamine.
Yeah, no doubt he'll claim it's his jammies and toothbrush.
There's more. So, I looked into the rental of these flats
and number 9A is never rented out.
Could be where they cut the CK.
Hmm! Good work, Lindo.
But how are they covering their tracks with the ketamine theft?
I've been thinking about that and the only way is if they've got
somebody on the inside cooking the books.
Do you want me to dig into the export side of things again, boss?
You trying to wangle yourself a free holiday to Norway, Monty?
I've already done that. What, try and wangle a free holiday?
Are you double-checking my work? No.
What, am I not as thorough as you, is that it? Mallick.
Why is she always like this?! Take five, Mallick!
Oh...
Now!
Look, he's, erm, he's under a lot of stress
just with his mum's illness, OK, so just don't take it to heart.
So we think Axel is in the CK operation with Captain Neilsen.
Right, the rest of the crew, they seem clean, apart from Emil.
I mean, there's no way you could work that close wae him
and not think there's something going on. Yeah, same with Elsa,
she's across all documentation and she lawyered up pretty fast.
Well, it makes sense that Captain Neilsen would need both of them
and Axel to make the smuggling operation work.
Right, OK, look, why don't we organise a warrant
for Galloway's unleased flat? See what we can find.
PHONE BUZZES
Whoa, whoa, whoa.
Hello? Lindo. It's Mariam. You need to help me, please...
Whoa, whoa, Mariam... ..they're going to send me... ..slow down,
slow down, slow down!
MARIAM PANTS
Her asylum claim has been deemed inadmissible
because she landed in Norway before she come here.
Them can't do this, she's a witness in our case, she's pregnant
and she just lost her partner. Lindo.
Leave it with me, OK? I will talk to Immigration
and I will make sure that they know that she has to stay put
because she's a person of interest to us.
Will that stop her from being deported?
It will buy her some more time.
Look, she will have a chance to contest any ruling that they make
and we'll support her however we can. Thanks, boss.
In the meantime, I would like you and Bart to go and ask Mariam
if she ever saw any of the crew going into those containers. Cool.
Maybe we've just been asking the wrong questions.
Jaiy.
I know we've checked everything out, I'm just clutching at straws.
No, look, I'm... sorry, I didn't mean to snap.
I really have turned over every stone on the export side.
Is there anything else bothering you? I mean,
besides your mum, of course.
I'm just...
..knackered, from all the running about.
It's always left to me, you know? OK.
No need to worry about the Home Office just yet.
So they're not deporting me?
They can't do anything until our case is closed.
Until you...find Hassan's body?
Mariam, that night on the boat,
did you see any of the ship's crew go into the containers?
No, the only person I saw was the man who told me to be quiet.
We think there might have been something going on that...
..Hassan got in the middle of.
Like what?
We're not sure yet.
PHONE BUZZES
Yeah, go ahead.
How are tings at the hostel?
Not good. I cannot sleep there.
Warrant's through for the flat.
Yeah.
OK.
Police, open up!
What the hell?
It's been cleaned out.
Somebody got here before us.
Thanks for the tip-off. I'm guessing it came from your brother.
Yeah, he wanted to help. That's good.
Because there's something else we need from him. Remember?
We need a location for the girl. I told you, he can't do that.
Then make sure we get her today.
What you up to?
If there was drugs in here, they might've left traces.
Check you.
It is in all the DI training manuals.
Have you forgotten already?
Right, that's forensics just pulled up. Let's give them some space.
You think Axel know we're coming?
Maybe he got spooked by the questioning.
Look, let's just call it a day, OK?
I'll get uniform to bring him back in.
Right! Who's up for a swallie?
Ah, better catch up with my father.
You've changed your tune. Maybe we should invite him for a pint.
DOORBELL CHIMES
I came here to let you know that my brother's out.
You might've forced him into this but it stops now.
Forced him? Is that what he's been telling ye? I gave you the tip-off
about the flat in exchange for you letting Naz go.
When was that agreed? Look,
I'll make sure you go down for a very long time unless you back off.
That theory would be great
if I couldn't bring your little brother down with me.
Naz is out.
End of.
MUSIC PLAYS THROUGH EARPIECE
Everything installed now.
You have music, relaxing sounds, breathing exercises.
It might help you sleep. Thank you. It definitely will.
You didn't have to do this.
Detective Lindo, can I ask, where are you from?
Jamaica. Why did you come here?
To find my own way in the world
and I don't think that could happen back home.
My father is...
..very domineering. Mine too.
Hassan is completely different.
He would be a great father.
I hoped Scotland would be our new home.
Yeah, same for me but if I'm honest,
I'm not sure Aberdeen is my place.
Why not?
It's complicated.
Let's just say the team don't always agree with my tactics.
You have a mind of your own.
SHE SINGS
Hey.
Do you want to tell me why you went to see Mariam last night?
Good morning to you, too, Bart. Katie just text me,
concerned that one of our team showed up. Hold on.
I gave her some earphones to help her sleep. What's wrong with that?
So why didn't you tell me you were going? There was no point.
No, the point is you shouldn't be playing the knight in shining armour
for witnesses.
HE LAUGHS
You know who you sound like? Mallick.
Hmm. Cheap shot.
You could jeopardise this entire case.
Can you try and be a human being here? She's all alone in that place.
And can you think like a police officer for once?!
You cannot do things like that!
You just...can't. OK?
Not without telling me first.
Because it will jeopardise your promotion
and that's all that matters, right? What do you care, anyway,
when you're heading back to Jamaica?
Huh?
Yeah. Something else you didn't tell me.
What you said to her?!
The truth. That you're coming back home with me. You have no right!
Just like you have no right to embarrass me
with the pictures you show her. Don't be ridiculous.
I was showing them out of affection.
Affection?
Well, that's new. So what?
All your problems come because me never hug you enough?
You hardly even look at me after me mother die.
That is not true. No? You blamed me.
You was never around after that.
I had to work. Work?
Yeah, and that was always more important.
Davis.
You have to come back home with me.
So we can make things right between us.
Davis!
Traces of ketamine were found in the air vent, and the carpet samples
were a match for the fibres that we found in Galloway's hair.
Gold stars for Bart and Lindo.
Maybe you two should move into forensics.
You'd love that, wouldn't you?
So Galloway was killed in the flat and then moved to the car? Aye.
And we were right about the flat where they cut and stash the CK.
It still doesn't explain how the crew get away
with stealing the ketamine. Well, guess what your job is today, Monty.
Should've kept my trap shut. I can give you a hand. Er, no, Mallick.
I need you on the ground leading the team to try and find Axel
because he has disappeared into thin air.
Uniform can't find him. I've got no doubt you will.
I've got my mum's meds at lunchtime, remember?
Yeah, I'm sure you can make it work.
OK, Lindo, you can be with Monty.
Yes, boss.
Do we think that something went wrong with the CK operation
and that Axel killed Galloway and Neilsen?
Maybe. But maybe there's somebody else that wants them all dead.
Grace McFadden.
Really? Coke sales take a dive,
she soon hears that CK is flooding the street, you know,
she doesn't realise it's coming from her own outfit.
Maybe she found out about Galloway.
Killed him and then took over the operation?
Galloway's been laundering cash through the legit businesses
so maybe that's how she found out.
I mean, it's a good motive, isn't it?
You know, she has worked her backside off over the years,
she's tried to keep anything legit away from the murky side of things.
Bart, you're with me.
I think it's time we put the squeeze on Grace.
How can I help, sir? I'm here to see Detective Lindo, please.
Oh, Mr Lindo. Grantley!
And if you'd be so kind as to tell me where that boy of mine is hiding?
He hasn't returned not one text or call of mine all morning.
We have been very busy.
PHONE BEEPS
Ah.
Him say him too busy to come down.
Everything all right between you two?
Just a few things we need to work through.
Well, families are... They're certainly never easy.
But usually things have a way of working themselves out.
I'm not so sure.
Well, you have raised a very strong-willed young man.
A likkle too strong-willed at times.
Just like his daddy.
When Davis told me he was moving here I thought it was just a phase,
something he had to get out of his system,
that it wouldn't last long at all.
Well, I wasnae convinced that we were the right fit for him, either,
but he seems to be proving us both wrong, eh?
Monty! You're burying yourself in paperwork, come up fi some air now.
Cheers.
I've actually just come across something.
PHONE BEEPS It might be nothing but... Hold on.
Remember the unidentified prints on Galloway's car? Yeah.
I ran them through the system again and I just got a notification
there's a match. I'll forward it to you.
PHONE RINGS
Naz? Jaiy! Jaiy, it's me.
What's wrong?
Naz, what's going on?! Is it Mum, is she all right?
I'm sorry, I'm so sorry.
Naz, tell me what it is!
Y-you need to tell them where the girl is.
They're at Mum's house and they've got a petrol bomb!
What?! I'm not messing about, Jaiy.
Is-is that what they're telling you? I'm-I'm here with them.
There's a guy outside, he's going to do it, Jaiy,
he's giving me to the count of three!
OK, Naz, calm down. Listen, just...let me think!
One. No! Naz! Wait! Wait!
Two. I-I'm so sorry.
Let-let me talk to them, let me talk to them. Three.
Jaiy, Jaiy, please! Mariam Faraki!
She's at a hostel on Powell Street.
Mariam Faraki.
Naz!
So am I out now?! Yeah?!
HE YELLS
They're Mariam's.
Her prints wouldn't have been in the system the first time we ran these.
That's why we didn't get a hit before. She said she ran into
a couple of vehicles as she left the dock,
one of them must have been Galloway's. Well, that puts him
at the harbour some time the night he was killed.
What if somebody else was in the car with Galloway?
That would mean them see her as well.
Look, both Galloway and Neilsen are dead and Axel's disappeared.
Everyone in this case is dropping like flies, Lindo.
You need to get her into protective custody.
PHONE RINGS
Monty, what's up? I think I've found something.
The price per kilo of the ketamine charged by the pharma company
doesn't match how much the NRPS are paying for it.
It's like the NHS are paying way more than they should.
The numbers are off.
You said they wouldn't take Mariam!
I'm here to bring her into protective custody.
Well, you're too late. Cos she's gone with Immigration.
They said the deportation had been signed off and they had paperwork.
Who? Some guys from the Home Office.
That's not possible. They said to my boss she will not be moved.
Oh, God.
Do you remember when I said there was someone on the inside
doctoring the purchase orders on the NRPS side?
UNTRANSLATED CHATTER
They can run but they can't hide.
UNTRANSLATED CHATTER
Mallick?
Mallick, are you still there? I'm... Yeah, yeah, I'm still here.
Well, I'm waiting to find out whose signature
is on the bottom of those purchase orders. Hang on a sec.
No, Monty, wait.
Monty?
Talk to me!
Wait!
Monty?
Catch you now.
UNTRANSLATED CHATTER Quiet.
Don't touch me!
Come on.
Stop the car!
Whoa, whoa, whoa!
