Previously on "Billy the Kid"...

[Brady] This store is no longer trading.

Please go home.

[Brewer] Sheriff Brady, I do not believe

you are serving justice.

You're only workin' for the House.

[Jesse] We do what we want, boys.

We are the fuckin' law.

We've got the guns,

and the House is a fuckin' institution.

It's gettin' real dangerous here in Lincoln.

- [gunshot] - Uhh!

[Billy] You gotta practice every day.

This thing's about to get real messy real quick.

[McSween] Sheriff Brady and a posse

will arrive here in the morning

to serve you with a writ and seize all of your horses.

[Billy] You should defend the ranch.

Protect your property.

[Tunstall] I don't want any of these people to die for me.

We're at war. We gotta fight 'em.

[Tunstall] I was just thinking that we could move the horses

before the sheriff gets here.

[Jesse] They struck out from Tunstall's ranch around dawn.

Picked up their trail.

Finally, we tracked down Tunstall himself.

We told him to surrender.

He fired at us, and we fired back.

[Billy] I swear on my mother's grave,

I will kill every man involved in your murder,

or die myself in the attempt, so help me God.

I have to take the law into my own hands.

- You told me you changed. - [grunts]

The next time I'll see your face will be on a "Wanted" poster.

But I want you all to appreciate that if you respond

to this act of violence in kind,

then there will be a lot of bloodshed.

[gunshot]

[gunshot]

Then let there be bloodshed.

[Manuela, in Spanish]

[horse whinnies]

[in English] Things are moving really fast, Billy.

The Regulators have all been charged with the murder

of Baker and Morton.

You're wanted men now, and you'll be arrested on sight.

We should quit Lincoln County for a while.

No. I'm not finished here yet.

There's more. I've been ordered to appear

before the district court to face those charges

of false accounting and embezzling state funds

that Murphy and his pals cooked up.

- You gonna go? - [McSween] It's the only chance

I have to clear my name. The charges against me

are so ridiculous, no jury would ever convict me.

I'll walk out of there a free man.

Just be careful.

♪♪♪♪♪

When's the court date?

[Riley] It's the end of the month.

There's a good chance the jury won't find against McSween.

- You know that, right? - I know that.

We gotta make sure that he doesn't have his day in court.

How do we do that?

McSween's gotta come out of hiding to attend court, right?

Well, then, we'll just get Sheriff Brady to apprehend him

before he gets there, serve him with a warrant for his arrest,

then throw him in jail.

[sighs] And once he's all locked up,

we'll just get one of our own judges to make sure

he's convicted, and then we'll just hang him.

Yes. Yes.

But then what if Billy and the Regulators

- ride into town with him? - Well, then they'll all

be arrested and thrown in jail themselves.

Anyway...

they wouldn't dare.

Even so, I do think we need to arrange a little something

on the day that makes it more difficult

for the Regulators to intervene.

Like what?

I've got an idea.

[Saturnino, in Spanish]

[coins clatter]

[coins clink]

[in English] So, there's something

I wish to discuss with you, Saturnino.

It is time to promote the vigor

and the economic strength of the House.

With Tunstall out of the way,

we've the monopoly in Lincoln now.

We need to take advantage.

We need to pull in new customers.

So, I'm suggesting that we have a little festival in the town.

And I need your help with that.

I'm imagining horse races in the center of the Plaza,

rooster fights,

fandangos, and there'll be music, and...

Jesse and his men... they'll do security.

That sounds like fun, huh?

Which date?

I was thinking that we might do it

the last day of the month.

The day of the McSween court case, no?

That's right.

[soft, eerie music playing]

Bring on the festivities, my friend.

[Brewer] I came as soon as I could.

One of the sheriff's deputies I got friendly with

told me that McSween is gonna be served with a warrant

for accessory to murder.

What, so he doesn't even make it to the court?

No. He told my friend that once McSween is behind bars,

he'll be found guilty and hanged.

What time's he due in the courthouse?

[Brewer] 11 o'clock.

[sighs] Shit.

Well, that's not happenin'.

I'm riding into Lincoln. Who's comin'?

What are you gonna do?

I'm gonna stop Brady.

How are you gonna do that?

[horse whinnies in distance]

Why not? I'm already involved.

for you... in the long term.

I joined you because I believe in you, Billy.

I'm comin' to Lincoln with you, whether you want me to or not.

[Murphy] My fellow citizens, we're gathered here today

to mourn the passing of our truly wonderful sheriff,

our very own Sheriff Brady

and three of his dedicated and brave deputies,

all of whom died in the course of their duty,

gunned down by a criminal gang

recruited by the Englishman, John Tunstall.

But John Tunstall... he failed!

But what he left behind is a violent group

of outlaws and murderers, all led by one man!

One man who goes by the name of Billy the Kid!

He's a seasoned killer, just for the fun of it!

And he's a danger to everyone as long as he remains alive.

So, what we need to do here is,

we need to find him and his gang,

and we need to bring 'em all to justice!

[cheering]

And I'm talking American justice!

Real justice!

I know that no one will ever be satisfied

until Billy the Kid swings on the end of a rope!

[cheering]

At the end of a fuckin' rope!

Back so soon, Mr. Walz?

Have you no other business to attend to?

Mr. Catron is actually very concerned, Mr. Riley.

He's very concerned that things are completely

out of control here.

Sheriff Brady's murder, on Main Street,

in broad daylight, is an appalling and horrifying crime.

Now with a reputation as a murder capital, as a lawless,

outlaw-infested place, who is going to invest

their money in Lincoln County?

The value of Mr. Catron's considerable properties

and assets here is being shredded.

So, Mr. Riley...

what are you going to do about it?

We all know who killed Brady.

When we hunt down Billy, and we disperse his gang,

our troubles will be over.

You make me laugh.

The Kid can do what he likes here,

and you can't do anything about it.

I can assure you, Mr. Walz, it won't be long

before you're hearin' of Billy the Kid's demise.

I really doubt that. Really doubt that.

And Mr. Catron doubts it, too, which is why he's just appointed

a new sheriff in Lincoln County.

A sheriff who's pledged to drive each and every gunman

and outlaw out of this territory and restore law and order.

I suggest you cooperate with him.

What's his name?

Who's the new sheriff?

You'll know soon enough, Mr. Riley.

You'll know soon enough.

Hola, Juan. ¿Cómo estás?

Bien. How about you, Billy?

Yeah, I'm fine. It was just a nick.

Poor Tom's still struggling to walk, though.

- And Waite here... - Mm-mm.

What I have to tell you, Billy, the death of Sheriff Brady

has created an uproar in the town.

Many people supported him, and they tell me it was wrong

to ambush a lawman just doing his duty.

He wasn't just doing his duty.

He was doing Murphy's dirty work.

I know.

Have they appointed a new sheriff yet?

I don't know. But they tell me, the first thing they're gonna do

is issue warrants for the arrest of all of us.

They'll come after us hard, Billy.

Yep.

[Patron] Shooting a sheriff is a capital offense.

Brady had it coming. We all knew that.

I still think we should sit tight here for a while,

let the uproar die down a little.

I also agree with Dick.

Let's just stay quiet for a while.

Hang 'round here till the heat goes away.

We're not just dealing with the House here... or the law.

We're dealing with Jesse. And we struck against him.

He was hired to protect Murphy's assets,

and that included Sheriff Brady,

so he's gonna wanna strike back.

We can't just sit around here

pretending that's not gonna happen.

We should take the fight to him.
