Coming up in A-list lifestyle,

we find out about the importance of skin prepping before makeup.

But first Austrian restaurant Guggemos.

We always scout the globe for the best

or most unusual eateries out there.

And this time around, we headed to Vienna,

Austria to dine at Guggemos.

What makes this one so special, you ask?

Well, they specialize in serving snails

and they don't just serve them,

they have a proper farm full of the slimy critters.

>> It starts before, as a joke at it,

we start to breed snails. But it was really a joke.

And then, uh, researched a little bit.

And then I found old cookbooks and found out

that Vienna was the real, real snail capital.

It was. There are snail markets in the, in the, in the center.

And, uh, it was a classic Lenten food.

>> It actually shouldn't be that surprising that snails

used to be a common staple of meals.

Gastropods, gastronomy.

The difference is only a few letters, really.

However, to find out that Austria

had such a strong snail tradition centuries ago

still came as a surprise to Andreas Guggemos.

>> When I was very catalytic

and it was forbidden to eat meat in Lenten time

and each Friday, each Wednesday,

the whole, uh, time before Christmas, advent,

and also for the days before Easter,

it was forbidden to eat meat.

>> And so they ate snails.

It's actually a good thing that this passionate chef

wants to revitalize this old food habit,

both for the environment and for his guests health.

>> It has a long tradition in Vienna

and is also a classical future food because you need,

uh, many, uh, very less feed, uh, water.

And also the soil. The soil is perfect.

It's good for the environment and high on protein.

We have four times more protein than beef.

So it's a yeah, a real future food.

>> Andreas unique menu seems to be catching on.

He's been farming snails for many years now

and produces about 300,000 annually for consumption.

Lately, other eateries have also started experimenting

with the unusual ingredient.

>> This is started. Nobody asked about snails.

The tradition was gone. It was forgotten.

Uh, but, uh, I started with the best chefs in Austria.

And for the young chefs, uh, it was cool

to to have a new product in the kitchen.

>> So what's the verdict?

We asked one of the guests who just tried the slimy delicacies

for the first time in his life.

>> It's quite good. I can't explain how it tastes.

It's. It's like something different and.

It's just a little bit, but it's satisfies you

and it's it's a great taste. You have to try it.

>> It seems that just like

we shouldn't judge a book by its cover,

we shouldn't condemn a food by its shell either.

When most people think about applying makeup,

they think about putting on foundation,

eyeliner, eyeshadow, mascara, and lipstick.

However, what many people don't think about are the steps

that should be taken to prepare the skin for the makeup.

Prepping your skin before is important

because what you do ahead of application

affects how your makeup looks.

Preparing your skin for makeup ensures that it goes on evenly

and stays put.

After all, the better your skin looks to begin with,

the better the makeup will look. On days when you wear makeup,

your skin prep and skin care routine

should be one in the same,

and the first step for flawless looking skin is a cleanser.

>> If you want to have a really good looking face

when you put your makeup on,

there are a few things you really should do

to make sure that your face is prepped for a good makeup

application that includes, first of all, wash your face,

and what you want to do is you want to get a cleanser.

That's maybe a milky cleanser, one that doesn't strip your face

of any essential oils or anything like that.

So make sure you cleanse.

>> The next step is to get your face extra clean

by taking off all the dead skin cells.

>> And then, of course, what you want to do

is you want to exfoliate.

By exfoliating, it makes all those dead skins

and all those areas that are maybe not as smooth,

kind of smoothed out.

And so you're going to exfoliate to get a smooth, clean palette

for when you do put on your makeup.

>> Toner is often seen as an extra step

in a skincare routine,

but it's just as important as all the other steps.

>> Most people, this is one that they kind of forget about.

Toner. You don't really think you need toner,

but toner is actually quite important.

And part of that reason is because it resets

the pH balance of your skin. Really important.

And it also helps to keep you moisturized.

So it keeps you giving, keeps giving you kind of a dewy,

moisturized look before you apply your makeup.

>> The last step on your pre makeup to do list

is moisturizing.

The combination of these products

helps to ensure your skin glows.

>> So last but not least, after you cleanse,

you exfoliate and you tone,

you want to put on that moisturizer.

That's really going to keep that barrier of your skin

looking fresh and dewy. And then at that point,

your skin is ready for your makeup application.

>> As the base for your makeup,

we suggest you start with a primer so your skin

is protected against the chemicals

that might be in the cosmetics products.

Cleansing, exfoliating, toning,

and moisturizing are the most important steps

for the best looking flawless skin

and will leave you looking like a true A-lister.

Later on in A-list lifestyle,

we've got plenty more in store for you

as we take a look at a sweater that belonged to Princess Diana

and see some big rolls turned down by Mark Wahlberg.

But before all that, we'll check out the fun

filled life of this multi-talented star.

The lovely Selena Gomez really requires

no further introduction.

She started off as a Disney starlet,

got quite good at singing, popped up in motion pictures

and became a part time model just for the heck of it.

Yes, the IT girl is a superstar already,

and when it comes to entertaining,

there's few things she can't do.

Let's take a closer look at the very

A-list life of this Texan girl.

>> My whole life has been kind of surveillanced in a way,

and I've never really let it cripple me

to make the choices I've made.

I've just understood that people are watching.

But I don't know.

I'm not ashamed of any of the choices I've made.

I'm very proud of who I am,

and I'd rather live my life like that.

>> While she's loaded these days,

Selena was actually dirt poor growing up,

making her story quite a rags to riches tale.

Her mom gave birth when she was only 16 years old.

Struggling to make ends meet. She took on three jobs

and still had to buy food at the local dollar store.

Fortunately for the Gomez's,

the to be celeb was exceptionally talented

and became a regular face on a TV show

when she was just ten years old.

From then on, things started rolling

and if we skip ahead to the present day,

she's acquired worldwide fame term.

>> I love her way to way to. Tell him I love him.

I'm not your girl.

I'm a roller coaster ride, baby jumper.

Come on, come on. Cause baby, if you can't tell.

>> Still, it's Mama Gomez who Selena cites

as her main source of inspiration.

>> It could get complicated, you know,

with with trials and challenges in your life.

But if you just truly believe in yourself

and, you know, just kind of be the bigger person,

you know, that's just the one thing my mom's always taught me.

She's always she's gone through so much, but she just come.

She just came out such a beautiful woman.

>> Besides making millions with her music and her

acting and modeling gigs,

it looks like she can also add businesswoman

to her already impressive resume.

Because in 2020, Gomez launched Rare Beauty,

quickly making waves in the beauty industry.

The brand has cultivated a loyal following

by promoting individuality

and challenging conventional beauty standards,

with all products being 100% vegan and cruelty free.

There is one thing that the star always makes sure to do

when she starts on a project.

>> I mean, look,

I anything I say or everything that I believe in or promote

is something that I'm passionate about.

So I mean, if I have to force something,

it's a lot harder than just being who I am.

So sometimes it gets a little, you know, interesting.

But I think for me, I just try to be the best I can be.

>> With Gomez among the most

followed celebrities on Instagram.

She has a massive platform to not only promote her brand,

but also raise awareness and advocate for mental health

and make a connection with her fans.

>> To be able to have that instant connection with them,

it's scary. At the same time,

because of how powerful and accessible your life is,

but I'd rather have that connection with them,

you know, than anything else sometimes.

Yeah, I for sure, even in the first page,

I'll like refresh it or I'll do something.

But yeah, I just try not to spend my life fixating on that.

Yeah, I'm able to have more of a say

than people who want to do something,

and I think that's why I do love social media.

>> But things aren't always perfect.

In the oh so glamorous life of Ella Gomez.

Some years ago, she was diagnosed with lupus

and got a kidney transplant from a close friend,

but the surgery didn't go as planned as she broke

an artery and almost died.

Things are looking bright again by now though.

And besides the occasional anxiety attack,

Selena is back to her old cheerful self.

The health issues did change her view on life, though,

and she's made staying fit and eating healthy a top priority.

Another thing we like to mention is that the brown haired beauty

was crowned a Unicef Goodwill Ambassador when she was 17,

and that's something you don't become

by donating a monthly 20 bucks.

No. Gomez actually visited third world countries herself

to help the needy.

>> Just being able to witness,

you know, actually being able to see for yourself

is much different than seeing pictures online

of all the things going on in the world,

and you don't even know

because you kind of just live in your own world.

So if anything, Unicef is just opened my eyes and

and really have given me opportunities

to give back in much greater ways

than I ever thought was possible.

So I'm just honored to be a part of that organization

because I truly believe they save kids lives every day.

>> With BFFs like Taylor Swift

and a boyfriend like Benny Blanco,

it appears there's nothing ordinary

about the wonderful life of Selena Gomez.

Princess Diana was truly the people's princess

both during her marriage to Prince Charles and after.

Everyone loved her.

And if you're familiar with the English royal family,

you've probably seen or heard

about many of the iconic outfits Diana sported.

Her infamous black sheep sweater

recently went up for auction at Sotheby's,

and we spoke with Cynthia Houlton about the garment.

>> The reason why this is headlining our sale in September

is that first, it's never been to market before.

It is certainly from a media coverage and press coverage.

It is the single most written about item of Princess Diana's

ever in terms of her fashion pieces.

And then also while there's speculation on pieces

that she really why she wore certain pieces,

what they meant to her,

this is the only piece to come to market

where there's actually letters of proof

saying how much the sweater mattered to her,

and then ultimately, what the statement that she made

to wear the replacement sweater two years later

is another sign of how much the sweater meant to her.

>> This isn't just any jumper,

and it obviously has a bit of a backstory,

but that only makes it even more valuable.

>> What happened to the sweater is in 1981.

She returned the sweater to Warm and Wonderful

to be repaired and or replaced. They sent her a replacement,

but then basically the sweater got lost for 40 years.

And in March of this year, Sally and Joanna.

Joanna was in her attic looking for patterns,

and she found a small white box.

And inside the box was the original sweater.

>> Our biggest question

is what's the estimated sale price of this garment once owned

and worn by Princess Diana?

>> We have the sweater valued from 40 to 70,000 pounds.

That is based on probably the most recent comp,

which was a Virgin Atlantic sweatshirt

she wore back and forth

to the gym that sold for just over $50,000.

That being said, recent comps have shown a huge appreciation

in Princess Diana fashion pieces.

In Q1 of this year, Sotheby's sold Victor Edelstein

a purple gown that she was photographed in Vanity Fair,

and that sold for over $600,000.

>> The sweater eventually sold for $1.14 million,

which is quite a lot for a jumper,

and it surpasses what Lady Di's car

was sold for during an auction in 2022,

which was $806,000.

If there's one thing the princess was known for,

it was her style.

Whether as part of the royal family or after.

Everything she wore that was available to buy in a store

would sell out instantly.

And that also happened with this black sheep jumper.

>> What's interesting about Princess Diana

and her fashion choices?

She really, over the course of her life,

mixed high and low street. So she obviously wore Chanel

and some other very high end designers.

She had gowns made for her, but she also mixed them with,

you know, more, you know, not quite so couture pieces.

And I think that's also a reflection

of how she reflected her personal style,

how she really used fashion as a way to communicate,

you know, who she was and what mattered to her.

>> Princess Diana's legacy as a style icon endures,

as evidenced by the remarkable auction

of her black sheep sweater. This sale not only highlights

her enduring influence on fashion,

but also reflects the deep affection and admiration

the public continues to hold for her memory.

Still to come an A-list lifestyle girl

bosses rocking the business world

but first big roles turned down by Mark Wahlberg.

This popular actor has starred in classic hits

like Boogie Nights,

The Departed and Transformers Age of Extinction,

but he could have done much more.

Here are our top three big roles turned down by Mark Wahlberg.

At number three, it's Star Trek. Apparently, director

J.J. Abrams originally offered Chris Hemsworth's part

as Kirk's father in the opening scene to Mark,

but the star felt the complex sci fi jargon

he would have to spout was too confusing

and turned down the gig.

On the second place, we find Ocean's 11 in 2001,

Wahlberg could have tagged along with George Clooney

and Brad Pitt in Steven Soderbergh's iconic heist flick,

but decided he'd rather make Tim Burton's Planet of the apes.

So it was Matt Damon who stepped in to play Linus Caldwell,

and our top spot goes to Brokeback Mountain, Marcus said.

He only made it through reading about 15 pages of the script

before passing on the role of Jack twist,

which then went to Jake Gyllenhaal instead,

who earned an Oscar nomination for the 2005 drama.

Celebrities not only have fame and fortune,

they've also got the connections

and networks to launch their own businesses,

from production companies to clothing lines,

perfumes and beauty products.

The sky's the limit for these stars.

So let's take a look at some celebrity girl

bosses rocking the business world.

First up, let's talk about Jessica Alba.

She began her Hollywood career as an actress,

but now she's one of the industry's

most successful businesswomen.

Although this hard working mom of three

has slowed down her on screen career.

She's redirected her energy toward The Honest Company,

a lifestyle brand she co-founded to offer toxin

free household and baby products.

She's also started a line of skincare

and cosmetics that celebrates diversity.

For this, Jessica works together with Daniel Martin,

a well-known makeup artist.

Together, they come up with great innovative products.

>> I started a beauty line called Honest Beauty and Daniel

came on and joined me,

and he does a lot of product development for color,

and it's so great because he has such a knowledge

in developing products, and he's a great artist

and you don't always get a boat.

>> It's it's been a really incredible journey,

like being with her going to

because we both love fashion and we both love color,

and we both are just really into dressing up.

But they're just it's great to have that partnership

that you trust someone to, you know?

Beauty, fashion.

Like it's just a really harmonious relationship.

It's really awesome. She's like my live Barbie doll.

>> Actress slash entrepreneur Jennifer Garner,

meanwhile, has co-founded a baby food business

called Once Upon a Farm.

The brand, which is certified by the Clean Label Project,

made its name with cold pressed smoothies

and has since expanded to offer plant

based baby meals and organic snack bars for the whole family.

Garner, who goes by Farmer Jen,

aims for her company to be an ally to moms

and uses her family farm in Locust Grove,

Oklahoma to source ingredients like pumpkins

and blueberries for her product line.

Selena Gomez has successfully moved

from being a beloved Disney star

to becoming a worldwide sensation.

But in addition to her music and acting careers,

Gomez has made a big impact in the business world.

In 2020, Gomez launched Rare Beauty,

quickly making waves in the beauty industry.

The brand has cultivated a loyal following

by promoting individuality

and challenging conventional beauty standards,

with all products being 100% vegan and cruelty free.

Rare beauty donates 1% of its sales to the Rare Impact Fund,

which supports those struggling with mental health issues.

With Gomez among the most followed celebrities

on Instagram,

she has a massive platform to not only promote her brand,

but also raise awareness and advocate for mental health.

It's no surprise that Forbes named Kylie Jenner

the youngest self-made billionaire in 2019.

She started building her empire at a very young age

and has since earned hundreds of millions of dollars

thanks to the tremendous success of Kylie Cosmetics,

a brand rooted in a seemingly simple concept

matching lip liners and lipsticks.

Today, the reality TV star's business

has expanded beyond the iconic lip kit

to offer a wide range of cosmetic products

including eyeshadows,

face palettes and application tools.

And of course, she also started

her own clothing brand named Kylie.

However, Kylie's business acumen didn't come out of nowhere.

She was inspired by her mother, Kris Jenner,

who also has a keen eye for business.

>> She's such a powerful woman

and she's taught me so much about business,

and she's made me love myself more.

Seeing my features and my daughter

and how obsessed I am with her.

And she's changed everything for me

and just the role model that I want to be for her.

And yeah.

>> In addition to being one of the original reality TV stars,

Paris Hilton is a savvy businesswoman.

Before she'd even turned 30, she'd built a business empire

encompassing stores, perfumes, beach clubs and more.

This glamorous starlet can also be booked as a DJ,

though her hourly rate of $350,000

is definitely for those with deep pockets.

Her mother, Kathy, couldn't be prouder.

>> Beyond proud. And she deserves it.

And she's always been her own person

and doesn't pay attention to the rules, as we know.

And I'm so proud of her.

And she's become somebody that does so much,

and I'm really proud of her. That's the most important.

>> And finally, let's not forget about Gwyneth Paltrow,

who made a successful transition from Hollywood star

to start up founder with her lifestyle brand goop.

She's passionate about empowering other women

to start their own businesses across the globe.

>> I think I'm seeing a lot of women

feeling emboldened to found companies to,

you know, embrace their inner CEO

to kind of climb up the the ranks.

So I feel very hopeful about where we are.

And it's amazing to work at goop

because we get to work with so many female founded companies

and give,

you know, a great platform for those companies to really,

you know, continue to amplify what they're doing.

>> As you can see,

these women have taken the entrepreneurial path,

building their own business empires

that have proven to be highly lucrative.

However, remember that you don't need to be a superstar

to achieve success as an entrepreneur.

That was it for this episode of A-list lifestyle.

Join us next time for many more tips from experts

and the stars themselves to live the life of a true

A-list celebrity.
