I don't know what's going on, but it's detecting everywhere.

-It's like we're triggering something. -Yeah.

TRAVIS: We spent the better part of the day

running these magnetometry and lidar surveys.

Here is the magnetic data of the Homestead Two.

I feel like we have to dig

to get to the bottom of Skinwalker Ranch.

TRAVIS: To help us find out what's really going on

behind all these phenomena happening on Skinwalker Ranch,

Brandon has given us permission to dig and drill deeper

than anyone's ever tried before.

Now, in order to do that, though, Erik's brought out

a team from Pete Martin Drilling.

We got a game plan for today?

We're out here at what we call "the triangle."

And so, we're gonna poke two holes

right at the vertices of that triangle.

As far as we know, there's no structure

underneath here, but we're not sure.

But part of why we're here doing this

is to explore that very question.

Okay.

TRAVIS: They're going to help us explore

the area we call the triangle.

-NATHAN: Here's the triangle. -TRAVIS: It was here

that last week we detected two large highly magnetic anomalies

with a long, tunnel-like feature

running between them deep underground.

It's also where a researcher named James Keenan

shared with us evidence of where he believes could be

some kind of underground water course

or possibly even an artificial tunnel system.

When you look at this,

you're cutting right directly through my focal

and origin point, which is this location of Skinwalker Ranch.

So, what we're planning to do with these holes is,

you know, besides just seeing what we find

and what we run into when we go down,

we're looking to instrument these.

We're going to set up some instruments

and we'll be taking some measurements

while you're drilling.

We see any elevated radiation measurements

or strange, uh, radio frequency signals

or something, we'll let you know.

Please also let us know if anything unusual happens

with that big piece of equipment over there.

FERNANDO: Okay.

ERIK: Look, the history is what it is.

Our attention is naturally drawn to this spot, but then again,

we've never tried drilling at the triangle.

We may provoke some response from the ranch.

Who knows what will happen.

FERNANDO: Erik, what exactly do we got?

ERIK: We've got magnetometers, we've got GPS,

we'll be looking at the Geiger counter data logging.

On the laptop is where we're looking

at our spectrum analyzer.

It allows us to see any unusual radio frequency signals

that show up while we're conducting our experiment.

-Okay. -So, while you're doing your-your work,

all of this stuff will be running.

All right, well if you guys are ready, we're ready.

-Yeah. -Yep, I think we are. Go ahead and fire it up.

TRAVIS: You know, we're...

really pressing our luck

if the whole "digging on the ranch" thing

has got any merit to it because, uh, you know,

Tom's digging with the excavator

and we got the big, giant drill going.

We're-we're not poking the hornet's nest, we're kicking it.

-Yeah, you-you can't... -We're kicking it.

We're kicking it down, stomping on it.

TRAVIS: While Erik and Dragon were working at the triangle,

I went with Kandus Linde, Kaleb Bench and Thomas Winterton

to investigate another area of interest

that's right between the triangle and Homestead Two.

Well, I have some interesting news to share.

TRAVIS: Last week, Brandon told us that this spot was

a particular place of interest for the Shermans,

who used to own Skinwalker Ranch.

BRANDON: There is an actual location of the area on the ranch

where the Shermans said not to dig.

I'd like the share with you the coordinates.

TRAVIS: When we plugged the coordinates in,

they pointed right to a big rock sitting

all by itself across the road from the mesa.

-BRANDON: Look at that. -So, what's the first thing we thought?

Let's go out there and dig,

and maybe it'll lead to some answers.

-This good? -Yeah, that's...

Where is the rock?

-It's right... -Oh, yeah. I see it now.

-Yeah, actually, let me go through right here. -Over here?

THOMAS: Just watch, this ditch is a little deep right there.

-TRAVIS: Is there water in it? -No.

KALEB: Was there anything in particular

we're looking for here, or...?

Well, the-the intel that Brandon got

was that, uh, one of the Shermans said

this was the spot not to dig at.

It's an odd coincidence that we took

the GPS coordinates that they gave us

and it was right in the middle of that rock.

The rock could be a marker.

Did somebody bury something there?

Is there something there that's dangerous?

We don't know,

but we've got to dig there to see

why would somebody say, "Don't dig in this spot"?

It's stable right there, Thomas. Steady.

I-- There's something right there on the rock.

-THOMAS: What are you seeing? -KALEB: Wh-- Oh, right there?

Yep. I'm gonna get a bottle of water,

I'll be right back. I'm-a go to the Jeep and get one.

THOMAS: Not talking about where I scratched it.

-No. -KANDUS: Not the white, but...

-It's right here. -TRAVIS: All right, here,

-let me get in there, Kandus. -KANDUS: Yep.

That's actually something on it.

-KANDUS: It kind of looks... -KALEB: There's definitely something

right there, and you got three clearly defined marks.

TRAVIS: I don't want to read too much into anything,

but it's definitely curious to me that we found

a possible carving on the underside of this boulder

where the Sherman family supposedly said

no one should ever dig.

It could be that they made the marking,

but we just don't know.

It's nowhere else, and it, to me, it looks like

a bunch of the old thunderbird symbols that you see

in a lot of Native American tribes and stuff.

One of my pastimes is I love reading mythology and history,

and to me that symbol almost looked

like some kind of a thunderbird that you see in the Navajo

and other Native artwork.

TRAVIS: The thunderbird is a mythical creature

of huge importance in Navajo

and other Native American cultures.

It's a symbol of great power, strength

and protection of humans against evil spirits.

Now, what's interesting here is that the legend

of the dangerous, shape-shifting entity

known as the skinwalker

is not only what this property has been named after,

but it also arose out of the Navajo culture.

So, if this really is a carving of the thunderbird,

then I wonder who would have carved it?

And is it connected to the Sherman's warning

not to dig here?

I'll take a picture of it.

-It certainly doesn't say, "Enter here." -KALEB: No.

THOMAS: Well, let's look under the rock.

I like that.

Well, I'm getting over here, out of the way.

(engine starts)

Who knows what could be here if this really is a marker.

It's right between Homestead Two and the triangle,

so even though I'm a little skeptical about it,

what if it's covering some kind of strange object

that's connected to all these strange phenomena

here on the ranch?

Heck, what if it's even covering

an entrance to what we might be drilling down into

over at the triangle?

We need to poke that sucker as much as possible.

ERIK: This is a significant water flow.

BRYANT: Just like what James Keenan told us.

TRAVIS: Hey, Thomas. Let's do another test.

-Oh, crap. Look at that. -KALEB: Well, that's...

TRAVIS: That is really magnetic riright there.

KALEB: Holy crap.

TRAVIS: We're digging below a boulder

right where the Sherman family reportedly said to never dig.

There's a long-standing legend that warns

against any digging on Skinwalker Ranch.

So, I'm really eager to see if we'll find something

buried here, or...

if some strange phenomena might be triggered by the digging.

Hey, do you see anything down there?

KANDUS: No, let's have a look.

TRAVIS: You gonna hop down in there, Kandus?

KANDUS: Yeah, just real quick.

I just want to look across this hole.

That's just some shale.

-THOMAS: Is it just shale? -Yeah.

Well, here's a bigger piece of it.

TRAVIS: Oh, hey, look at that.

THOMAS: I didn't know if it was pottery or something.

-KANSU: No. -TRAVIS: Kandus, you need a hand?

Yeah, I'll take one.

Nothing unusual, it's just crazy cross-bedding.

But I can't help but think

the rock was simply a landmark.

To be honest, that could be within 100 feet of the rock.

Oh, well, they might go to the rock,

take 100 paces due north,

you know, five paces to the east.

It's kind of like finding a needle in a haystack.

-TRAVIS: Yeah. -We go deeper,

-or what-what are you thinking after seeing it? -KANDUS: I would not go deeper.

TRAVIS: It doesn't look like it's been disturbed

and that rock's been sitting on it forever.

That rock hasn't been moved.

TRAVIS: I really don't think it's worth investigating

this spot any more right now.

The ground doesn't look backfilled,

like someone dug here or hid anything below,

so we need to focus our energy where we are

experiencing anomalies like the triangle area,

and another spot we want to investigate

next in the East Field of the ranch.

THOMAS: Well, then, let's just fill this in and call it.

FERNANDO: You're good. You're clear.

Oh, it's already getting wet.

BRYANT: Can we take a look?

Yeah, give me just a sec

-and I'll give you some light. -Okay.

ERIK: This is a significant water flow.

BRYANT: Just like what James Keenan told us.

But this is the kind of stuff that caves like crazy.

ERIK: Oh, boy.

Oh, yeah. It's caving.

-BRYANT: It's already caving, huh? -Oh, yeah.

BRYANT: What do you think, Erik?

Do we want to continue digging in this?

So, I really want to get this hole to depth.

If we can get that 100-foot depth, I want to get it.

If we've got to put a casing in the ground,

we were gonna do it anyway.

-Yeah. Yep. -I say we do it now.

BRYANT: I was pretty surprised to see

the amount of water that we encountered

at such a shallow depth here,

but we really do want to get to the bottom

of what is underneath the triangle.

-Thank you. -Thank you.

TRAVIS: We're gonna head over

to where the cow died.

Right underneath where the UFO appeared in the video.

After we finished investigating the rock,

the next place we wanted to explore was in the East Field,

where we've seen all kinds of strange phenomenon.

I'm gonna park right here to be out of his way.

One week ago, we conducted a lidar scan

with a company called Juniper Unmanned,

and we detected two very large circular features in the ground.

The anomalies we found were right here where this flag is.

The peak of that parabola.

And this also happens to be an area

where the cattle on the ranch have been avoiding.

One cow mysteriously died last year,

while at the same time, a UFO appeared above it in the sky.

So, uh, the cow we found right here.

-Literally right here. Right? -THOMAS: Yeah.

Why don't we just dig right through the center of it,

and we can put this to bed really quick.

If there's something there, we'll find it; if there's not,

-we'll know and we can get to the next spot. -Yeah.

So why don't we go all the way to the fence

and do-- maybe do two swipes and just come back to, you know,

about 20 or 30 feet away and just-just do...

-You want a wider trench? -Yeah.

KANDUS: That'd be nice. A little bit wider.

TRAVIS: That way we can actually go in.

If-if we do see some kind of anomaly,

we can walk in it safely and maybe look at the dirt

-and take samples or whatever. -Yeah. -THOMAS: All right.

THOMAS: The cow died possibly of something

that messed up its neurological system.

It makes me wonder, you know,

if there is something underground here

that caused this reaction leading up to this cow's death.

Okay, guys.

We're gonna get out of the way.

ERIK: Wow.

BRYANT: No wonder he wants us out of the way.

ERIK: Yeah. I'm glad to be out of the way.

BRYANT: Yeah, me, too.

The drill rig hit water

really early and it was starting to cave in.

So, now we have these big metal casings

we're gonna put in the ground, and hopefully

it'll help stop the water.

CHANCE: Bring it this way.

ERIK: So, he's actually getting into the ground

below the level at which they were drilling, right?

BRYANT: Yeah, oh, yeah. That pipe was 40 feet.

FERNANDO: Real soft and wet material can be dangerous.

When that material like that is-is that saturated,

it could cave in and it could tip the rig over.

-Down? -CHANCE: Down.

BRYANT: Oh, there she is.

FERNANDO: Let's see your mirror.

How deep are we here?

-About 25. -25?

FERNANDO: See how it's just running in?

-Yep. -It's falling apart.

ERIK: That is really flowing.

Looks like a river down there.

BRYANT: Seeing the amount of flowing water

under the surface is very interesting.

Is this an opening to a big void or a larger cavern?

Or could this be tied into

what James Keenan told us where he talked about

some highly electrically charged river

that could be running underneath this property.

Well, we had a gentleman come out here to the ranch.

-Yeah, when James was out. -Yeah.

We talked about the possibility of there being water flow,

significant water flow, under the property.

And he even talked about this area

as being one of the areas of interest.

I have to admit,

I thought it was crazy that we went down

maybe 24, 25 feet below the ground with the drilling

and we hit flowing water.

You guys ready to put this in?

Yeah, I'd say we need to pour it in.

ERIK: This year we put 45,000 gallons of water

into that hole on the other side of the Homestead Two area

and it disappeared rather quickly.

Where did it go?

And when Thomas started digging with the mini-excavator,

trying to find an exit point for all that water,

Kaleb's phone started malfunctioning again.

I don't have any control over it.

It shut itself off.

ERIK: It could be that what we're seeing

is part of the explanation as to what happened

to all that water.

I want answers.

If we continue drilling

without advancing the temporary casing more,

it'll collapse underneath us.

It's doing it already.

It's probably underwater.

BRYANT: It's disappointing to have this hole

in the middle of the triangle cause so many problems.

It's a moot point to go any deeper

because there's enough current there

that it's actually making the water bubble up,

and they're really having to work hard to try and stop it off

so they can go to the depths we're after.

-I guess we're done. -FERNANDO: Okay.

The next spot's gonna be over there.

-Okay. -To the west.

FERNANDO: All right. Okay.

Let's rock and roll.

TRAVIS: Hey, Thomas, let's do another test

after this one!

Okay.

-Just feels like dirt to me. -Yep. -Yep.

TRAVIS: The Juniper data said there's some sort of anomaly

right where the cow died.

And a cow died there, so that's anomalous to start with.

But as Thomas excavates the soil,

we don't find anything really unusual.

-Well, you just drop on in there, Kandus. -Yeah, I'm going down.

I want to see the side wall.

Yeah, that ground's just like concrete.

-TRAVIS: It just looks like dirt, right? -KANDUS: There we go.

-KANDUS: Yeah, it's... -You see any other layers?

You know, it's just natural stratigraphy.

You've got that top horizon...

soil, then it goes down.

Yeah, there's nothing to write home about down there.

-No. -So, hey, what depth are we at?

Drop the tape measure down there.

How deep is it?

I think we're right at seven.

Oh, crap. Look at that.

Look at it. Look how it's bending the tape back.

-KALEB: That's... -That is really magnetic right there.

KALEB: Holy crap.

TRAVIS: Pretty strong electromagnetic field

right at the drill.

-Go figure. -ERIK: Hey, guys.

Look at that.

This thing's hopping all over the place.

-That is so strange. -You hear it?

BRYANT: It really does kind of sound like communication.

TRAVIS: Look at that.

That is really magnetic right there.

THOMAS: Can you feel it?

I can't-- look at, watch it.

It pulls it right to it.

-You see it speed up? -KANDUS: That's uncanny.

THOMAS: Yeah, it does. That's so weird.

TRAVIS: The ground in the pit we dug,

and where the cows have been avoiding,

is strangely magnetic.

But what makes it really freaky

is that there's no large metallic object

or structure of any kind buried here that we can see.

I've dug holes all my life and I've never seen a hole

as magnetic as that.

Travis, would that suggest that there's current running

through this ground that's magnetizing it?

Yeah. Anytime you have an electric current,

there's a magnetic field associated with it.

-Mm-hmm. -We seem to be finding magnetism

with everything we find.

When I first came to Skinwalker Ranch last year,

Erik Bard explained how a lot of the data

he had been collecting on the property

indicated that something underground

was causing a highly powerful magnetic field.

And he also believed it might help explain things

like the horrible head injury Thomas Winterton suffered

a couple years ago,

and all the malfunctions we've had with electronic devices.

ERIK: What is it doing?

KALEB: It was in my contacts.

It tried calling a couple people.

Dude, that is crazy.

Well, I don't know if there's ano-- any reason

to keep digging this hole. I don't see a parabolic shape

like was in the ground-penetrating radar.

Thomas, we probably ought to dig another hole just like this

-where we've heard stories of cattle mutilation... -Mm-hmm.

...or UFO or whatever.

And wasn't there another one down here by the big tree?

Down here in the corner by the tree, yeah.

That's where that Sheriff Kris Porritt

showed us a spot where there had been

mutilations in the past.

And, also, he talked about some kind of craft...

-Where? -...that had landed.

It's just in the corner where you're talking about.

Uh, why don't you guys go down there and scout it out,

-and I'll come down and we'll dig that out. -Okay.

-TRAVIS: Let's get the-- you got the metal detector? -KALEB: Yeah.

An ex-deputy sheriff from the area named Kris Porritt

had some pretty incredible stories when he came to visit,

and told us there had been a cattle mutilation here.

All the female organs were removed out of both cows.

I can't explain it.

And there was matted grass,

where something heavy had sat in these weeds

and made an impression.

I presume

that it was a spaceship.

TRAVIS: I don't know what to make of Sheriff Porritt's story.

He believes that an actual alien craft

landed on this next location.

Given the mutilated cows that he officially reported,

and our own lidar data

showing large circular anomalies on that exact spot,

I'm convinced that it's worth digging.

KANDUS: Okay.

TRAVIS: Check this out, I see exactly what was in the lidar.

It's raised up.

It's a perfect circle right here.

-KANDUS: Oh. -Y'all see it?

-I do. -It is a perfect circle, right here.

And it looks like it's probably an inch to two inches higher

than the rest of the area around it.

Well, let's dig through the middle of it.

All right, so let's start digging.

Now I'm here to follow the science,

so hopefully we can make a discovery of something

that will explain those things that happened here

and this weird magnetism in the ground across the ranch.

I'd say that's good enough!

Let's see if the thing's magnetic.

I'm not seeing anything crazy.

Look, look, it's pushing it away.

-Look, it's pushing away. Look. -KANDUS: Is it?

-You see that? Yeah. -KANDUS: Mm-hmm.

-THOMAS: Yeah. -TRAVIS: It's literally pushing it away.

-Look at that. -KANDUS: Hmm.

Something is either electrically charging or magnetically

charging the walls of this dirt.

This is charged differently than that.

And I'm beginning to-- This is making me think

it's electric, not magnetic.

If it's electric, which would make more sense,

because that's not a magnet.

And if that's charged and if they're both positive

or they're both negative, they'll push each other away.

The fact that dirt

is statically charged enough

that it will push metal to the wall of the dirt

is unbelievable.

Is there electric current flowing through the ground

that's putting electric charge on it?

I don't know, but it tells me that there's something weird

electromagnetically in the soil once you get to a depth

of about five feet or so.

Could this explain why we've seen so much phenomena

in this area?

I-- It's all connected somehow.

Everything. The UFO sightings, the dead cows,

the cows moving around in weird places,

the Internet going out,

the batteries dying, the phones wigging out,

the water under the ground, the soil acting weird.

All of this is connected somehow.

We just don't know what the culprit is.

We didn't find any dead aliens or spaceships,

but what we did find was another mystery and another clue.

-It's another pushpin. -Yep.

ERIK: How far down are we?

-FERNANDO: We're about 25 feet. -All right.

BRYANT: We drilled our first hole

and we hit water really early and it was starting to cave in,

so now we're punching hole number two.

ERIK: Wow.

Look at that. You see what's going on here?

-BRYANT: Yeah. -This line you see right here?

-BRYANT: Mm-hmm. -I've been watching this thing dance around,

and I've never seen that before.

A spectrum analyzer is a device

that's sensitive to electromagnetic waves,

uh, like radio waves.

And it allows us to see which frequencies

are present and at what amplitudes.

And we're seeing stuff that is neither natural

nor easy to produce.

This may be correlative with what we're doing

with the rig itself.

I think what I want to do is watch

how this changes as-as they work with the machine.

Okay. That is strange.

ERIK: Yeah.

KALEB: You want to check right here real quick?

TRAVIS: We might as well get out and walk around,

see if we trigger anything.

-Okay. -Take your phone in case it starts wigging out.

TRAVIS: While the drilling continued at the triangle,

Kaleb and I went back to the East Field.

I wanted to see if we could measure

any potentially dangerous energy spikes

or radiation as a possible result of all the digging.

So, the Bessie was right over here, right? The cow?

-KALEB: Right between these two cow-- trees right here. -Between the two trees.

So, the gamma ray levels are about three times higher

-right now, background-wise, than normal. -Okay.

TRAVIS: We stopped by the site where the cow died last summer.

Suddenly, my, uh, gamma ray detector

started showing an increase in gamma rays.

Yeah, we just jumped up above 20...

24 millirem per hour.

Gamma rays are higher-level X-rays,

and you can get radiation sickness from them.

Although the levels weren't immediately dangerous,

they were increasing.

Yeah, you know, this is crazy weird.

Tell you what, if you hold this for a minute.

I want to check another instrument out.

We've got a continuous magnetic field...

-Mm-hmm. -...that's going on right now.

TRAVIS: That should be zero.

Hey, guys. Look at that.

This active peak is really interesting here.

This thing's moving around. You see that?

BRYANT: Yeah. Have you ever seen that frequency?

-I have not seen this before. -Really?

If you look over here, you'll see

this colored waterfall plot here

shows that we've got a peak that's dancing around

and I don't know what's driving it.

We seem to be receiving some kind

of energy.

I think that there may be

an energy source nearby

that can be interpreted as artificial.

I wonder if this is somehow connected to the drill.

Look at that.

That makes no sense.

TRAVIS: Let me just check my compass

-and see if it looks weird. -We have the compass in your Jeep.

I've got a compass right here. Just hang on, I'll find it.

It is right there.

That is odd right there, dude.

-So... -There is an extraneous

magnetic field right here messing my compass up.

Kaleb, check this out. Magnetic north has been shifted

by about five degrees.

It's showing north is that way.

KALEB: Holy crap.

It's pointing toward where they're drilling.

TRAVIS: There's a pretty strong electromagnetic field

right at the drill. Go figure.

BRYANT: My compass is saying that

that's due north right now.

TRAVIS: That's what Kaleb's and mine have been doing.

-Do you have anything magnetic on you? -No.

TRAVIS: Check this out.

Magnetic north has been shifted by about five degrees.

It's pointing toward where they're drilling.

Kaleb and I went on a patrol while the guys

were out at the triangle drilling,

and we stopped by the site

where the cow died last summer, and while we were there,

my electronic compass was off.

It was pointing toward the drill site.

Let's go further south and see if we're still seeing

the same stuff the further away we get from...

-Yeah. -...from the drill rig

and from the homestead area.

-You ready? -Yeah.

TRAVIS: One of the best places to see the whole ranch

is down at the observation tower.

Why don't we go down there, and that way we can see

-the whole ranch at once? -Okay.

Do you mind just having them shut the machine off

for a second?

We're picking something up that we want to see

if it's being caused by the machine or not,

so it'll just be one second. Thank you.

Okay, Erik, it's shut down.

Okay. Oh, it's still active.

This thing's hopping all over the place.

Look at that. You see what's going on here?

BRYANT: Yeah. That is so strange.

ERIK: This line you see right here,

is, it's moving around as if under

some kind of, uh, deliberate control here.

So, what-- I mean, what would the purpose of something

like that be, a communication device?

ERIK: I don't know. Look at this.

-That's bizarre. -Yeah.

ERIK: I sure don't know how to explain this.

TRAVIS: All right. You ready?

-KALEB: Yep. -All right, here we go.

-You got everything you need? -I think so.

KALEB: I'm gonna get up on top of that tower

and really see what we can see up there.

TRAVIS: We'll be able to see everything.

Since we got such weird compass and gamma ray readings

in the East Field that seemed to point

over toward the drill rig at the triangle,

Kaleb and I went to the observation tower

at the southernmost point of the ranch

where we could get high enough above any obstructions

to see if we could duplicate those readings.

-Take a few readings here. -(crackling)

Ooh, hey.

Pretty strong electromagnetic field.

Seems like it's coming from... peaks out...

Boom. How about that?

Right at the drill.

-Go figure. -KALEB: Mm-hmm.

Aim it away from the drill, it drops.

Clearly the drill's having some kind of effect

on the magnetic field of the ranch.

And I can detect it all the way down here.

That's nuts.

TRAVIS: I'm not real sure how to explain this,

but it's possible that this huge metal drill bit

that's sticking down into the ground

is acting like a big, permanent magnet

if it's hitting something that's more magnetized

than normal under the surface.

That could throw the compasses off a little bit,

but I've never seen them go off 15 degrees

like these were doing.

So, what could they be drilling into that would cause that?

That's really interesting.

ERIK: It's not the frequency itself,

but it's the behavior of that frequency

that's caught my attention.

BRYANT: It really does kind of sound like

-communication or someone trying to dial something in. -Yeah.

You know when you run across and you get that

and I don't know what's going on.

Could it just be a natural phenomenon

based on the geography and the geology of this place?

Could it truly be a higher intelligence

So, we picked up this signal,

but this thing is bouncing all over the place.

...a massive energy spike showed up

on our spectrum analyzer.

And it not only shut down the entire network

but it also happened at the same time

that both Thomas and I suddenly felt ill.

Guys, I'm-I'm leaving the ranch. I'm getting a bad headache.

I'm dead serious.

So, it made me wonder if drilling at the triangle area

was causing this to happen all over again.

That is, uh, that's bizarre.

So, let me tell you what-what all we've been seeing.

So, not only have the compass readings been changing,

but we've been measuring a large magnetic anomaly...

-Uh-huh. -...and it points right at the drill.

-Wow. -And then, the gamma rays

are going-- they're dropping down into single digits...

-Yeah. -...and going up into the high 20s in millirem per hour.

-That's interesting. -Yeah.

But the fact that it's fluctuating so much,

constantly, is pretty weird.

BRYANT: Hey, Travis?

My compass is saying that that's due north right now.

TRAVIS: That's what, uh,

that's what Kaleb's and mine have been doing.

BRYANT: Dude, it's spinning.

It's telling me that north

-is right at me now. -Oh, come on.

Look, it's still going. I mean, it made a full rotation

and then corrected itself.

ERIK: As far as you're aware, do you have anything magnetic on you?

I don't think we've ever seen anything

quite like that before at all on the property.

But then again, I don't think we've ever tried

drilling like this before.

TRAVIS: Mine and Kaleb's are lining up with each other's.

-Right. -That is insane, dude.

TRAVIS: There's no real simple explanation

for the compasses being messed up.

This would require

a transfer of magnetic or electromagnetic energy

all the way across the ranch

over miles of distance.

So, this is something far different

than-than just a piece of metal

being magnetized by drilling in the ground.

Maybe we're drilling down into something that's causing this.

We are about 70 feet right now, roughly.

ERIK: As far as we know, that's as deep as anything

Yeah. We're hoping to get-get down to that 100-foot still,

so, we'll keep chewing on it and seeing what it'll give us.

It's been interesting to see the change in soil color

-and composition and everything. -Yeah.

It seems like every time the bucket comes out,

-about every other time it changes up. -Yeah. Yeah.

Got some layering going on there.

BRYANT: The drilling process seems to be going smoothly.

Watching the different soil colors come out of the ground

and drilling deeper than we ever have, really has us excited

to find out what's actually going on here.

TROY: Yeah, we're about probably 93.

That is some dark, dark stuff.

-ERIK: Yeah, it looks like coal. -It does.

There's another black material native to this area

that's kind of interesting.

You know what that is?

ERIK: What's that look like to you?

-BRYANT: Coal. -Yeah, that's what we were saying.

The only other black stuff around here that I know of is...

BRYANT: We're here at the triangle

where we were able to reach a depth of 100 feet.

The drillers pulled out this strange black substance.

And we've heard stories of this gilsonite that is

a byproduct of a meteor impact from years ago.

Then you can tell if it's gilsonite or not, or...?

Well, if it melts all together, it'll be like a tar sand.

TRAVIS: Millions of years ago,

this entire area was inhabited by dinosaurs.

And scientists have long speculated

that what caused their extinction

was one or more meteors impacting the earth.

Now, we won't know until we test this black substance

if it is gilsonite or not, but if it is,

it could be evidence of something that originated

in outer space, and if that's the case,

what else could be down there

that might provide us with some answers?

-ERIK: What do you think? -Huh?

FERNANDO: It wouldn't ignite, so it kind of told us

it's not a flammable material.

Definitely not petroleum-based.

And gilsonite flakes off and fractures real easy.

So I would dare guess

that it could be s-some gilsonite that we are hitting.

But without testing it, I can't give

a for-sure answer of what it is.

ERIK: Well, we've got a lot of samples, and this is probably

the most interesting and it's at the bottom.

BRYANT: Yeah, it'll be cool to get it tested and see.

you've got manganese, iron,

I mean, that's all the stuff you would need

to put together modern-day electronics.

any modern-day fighter plane

or spacecraft and you crush it up,

and then you take a sample of it,

you're probably gonna get these materials.

Hmm. This is very interesting.

ERIK: Travis recognized materials

that are used in the manufacture of aircraft

and semiconductor devices.

Why do we have something like that black material

at a certain depth here at Skinwalker Ranch?

I have no idea.

But I do find it fascinating.

TRAVIS: That looks so familiar to me.

I've seen that.

I bet we could cool that down

to liquid, uh, nitrogen temperatures

and I think it would be superconducting.

We'd need a big magnet.

I think I know where we can find one of those.

What we might want to do is take the samples

that we've already sent out and do some follow-up analysis--

you know, some chemical analysis-- we might find out,

uh, more about the light element composition.

Just looking at the graphs you got, you could--

you got enough stuff there, if we m-- if we mined it

and refined it, we could build an airplane.

Wow.

It took us getting down the deepest we've ever gotten

on the ranch, to 100 feet,

to find this strange black substance.

You never know where there might be a hidden clue in there.

I find that really interesting.

deep underground at the triangle area

is the first physical scientific evidence

of something that might not be natural under the ground.

Whether it's part of some kind of structure

or object, we can't tell.

But what we have to do is follow up on this

and see if the rest of the ranch has similar characteristics.

This discovery could lead us to finding out

why all these bizarre phenomena

keep happening at Skinwalker Ranch.

THOMAS: You know, the thing about digging on Skinwalker Ranch

is that the bad things don't always happen immediately,

and there's a superstitious part of me that says

the number of things that I've seen go wrong after digging

just cannot be a coincidence.

BRANDON: We have never before seen this level of investigation

We don't know what lies in store.

I think we have yet to fully understand
