their only protection against death from

repeating itself frustrating maddening

ranold McKenzie and his fourth Cavalry

for although McKenzie had established

sacred treaties with most of the Indian

leaders still small unauthorized bands

of marauders all too frequently darted

into the United States terrorizing

American settlers burning stealing then

darted back across the river into Mexico

safe from the American

Fort Clark along the border country of

Southwest Texas the year

1873 following a hurricane and flood

which struck the fort Clark area Colonel

Rand Mckenzie was faced with one of the

strangest problems of his career

the flooded Rio Grand River southern

boundary of the United States sliced

into the Henderson Ranch placing a

section of the American-owned property

on the Mexican side of the border the

changed course of the river turned the

Henderson Property into a vulnerable

Island how much Ben Henderson's land is

affected any considerable amount I

wouldn't think so sir of course I didn't

cross the New River to see exactly how
