and then he told me to go back to the unit

and call in the shoot.

I called the shoot in and came back

with some uniform officers
from the prostitution sweep.

Steger met us, and he had
a pistol by its trigger guard.

Yelling he had found it.

Naturally, I was real relieved.

Next thing I know,
I get called in to the captain's office

and Steger's there
lying through his teeth.

he risks your coming around
the corner and seeing him,

he prolongs his time at risk

by removing the gun from the perp's hand
and throwing it under a dumpster.

Then he has the further calculation,

according to your testimony,

he's totally panicked,

to pretend he can't find the weapon.
