My mother wore white gloves

every Sunday to church.

She'd get in

then she'd pull her white gloves on,

Then she'd just snap her purse closed

and glance at her wrist watch,
which was small, very delicate.

Then she'd smile at me and she'd say

And we'd drive to church.

I love white gloves.

they remind me of a time

when people would smile at each other

the groceries into the house.
