Ok, so we will start here with

the second part

of the course

that we will be focusing in

clean and fast lines.

Why we talk about clean and fast lines?

Well first of all, because when we start

to draw or we are sketching,

we have different methods when

we focus in make lines.

And usually

when we are starting in this

world of drawing, we usually make

lines that have a lot of disaster on it.

What I mean?

So, for example, when we start

to sketch something,

at the start of

our drawings, we

are insecure. So we make a lot

of lines and

make it like

fluffy.

Or drawing, right?

So

this usually happens because we have fear

or

the mistakes. Or we are not secure of

what we are doing exactly.

And it's like

a mess of lines.

This is something that can't work

depending on

in the area you are working.

Like in illustration really

is not a problem because you will

paint over those lines. And you will

construct over those lines so is

not a problem.

But when we go to animation

and when we go to storyboard world,

is a bit more difficult to work with those

lines. Why? Because

principally

lots of time, you will lose a lot of time

drawing every

character you need to draw with this

method. Like

we lose time of your work

and spending in something that really

not will give you anything

for your work.

So that is the first thing.

The second thing is that

your work

reflect insecurity.

This is really not a problem but

when you try to find the work,

the person that will sell

your portfolio will

see that.

Like this person

can do like

a straight line without problem because

he is trying to

get something done with a lot of lines.

And

you can't think about that.

So not be the problem

is your anatomy is good or

your work is good.

But at the end of the day

if they do, it's a bit difficult to work

with something like this because

it's confusing.

And maybe you can understand it.

But other person

don't have idea

what line is the correct line for

clean. Because

you are doing a storyboard, for example

for another person that will animate

over it. And other person that will

clean it or stuff like that.

And when the other person is different

than you will be more difficult that,

for that person that

find the correct form of your drawing.

Because they really don't know what

you were thinking about

when you doing your character.

They don't want to

take out

or making something different

from your work. But if they don't have

an idea what you were thinking when

making this

lines, they don't have an idea what to

trace over it. Right?

So

it's a thing to have in consideration

when you are working with a team

because you are not the only one that is

working there. Another person need to see

what you are doing.

And understand what is happening.

So that is another important point.

Ok, so

how we start

to make those lines more clean

or better?

First of all,

the case here is that

you don't need to have fear to the mistake

because

that will give you more freedom at the

moment of show. Because

if I don't have fear to make the head,

maybe not this the

better head I can do. But

will be more easy to correct

than try to make it perfect from the start.

And try to make a mess

and start again. Oh no, I

did it bad. And you start to erase and

you know, you start again. I say no,

it's bad and you start again.

I mean you can do that.

But will be more easy and take you

less time if you try to

with clean lines that

have an objective,

it's more easy to correct by yourself.

And lose less time.

For example,

you need to practice, first of all,

the lines.

you need to focus and not try

to make this

natural lines.

you need to form something.

Try to do more straight lines

that connect easy.

Something like that.

And

I know this is a bit complicated at start

again because

for experience, ask

for knowledge about

how to simplify

the body. And how to simplify

the anatomy but there

are some points we will be looking at

more forward in this course.

But now we will focus

in the lines.

How to practice the lines?

So

your position when you drawing,

it's important to forget those lines

don't wiggly too. Why? Because not this same make

only with the movement of your hand.

when I make a line with my hand,

So when I draw with my hand only,

it's more difficult to get

a long line and clear line.

my recommendation is

you need to draw

without your arm.

This is the point

you need to focus

in your elbow.

more bigger.

you need to practice those lines because

when I am drawing this for example,

I will not move my hand.

comfortable too, you can work

also with your shoulder.

And why with your shoulder?

Because sometimes you can

block an angle here.

And with your hand too.

your shoulder, your body

I can make mistakes.

And really not is a problem.

And it's always more easy to correct

those mistakes because

it's really clear

what I am looking at it.

Like lines are like

over the other one.

So if I make a mistake,

like I make another line over it

and that will be chaotic. Right?

Will be still clear.

Because the problem not

is make the mistake.

The problem is

how we can fix it

to not lose time in correcting.

And that

if we leave the mistake there,

can be still clear what we are doing

so that

are the principal case here for make

the straight

lines and

make them clear.

This thing that

you will add

to your work slowly

is I think that will take time,

is I think that will take practice.

But in my point of view, it's really, really

useful especially when you are

working for a team

because

it's really helpful for the other ones

that will see your work.

And will be easy to you for work with them

because if you need to make corrections,

if you need to

explain what is happening, if you need to

make our scene again,

not will take you the time

it will get

if you

are working with the mess lines.

So this is a really important recommendation

I will give you. And

also we will be looking at how this

related directly

in work fast.

And I will explain why.

Why we work fast?

It's really easy to see because we are

again losing time in make short lines.

And a lot of them

in only one space.

Right?

Because not this is the same I do this

that I do something like this.

And you can see I did the same thing

in the half of time

or less.

And with

a better lecture because

I have really clear where are

the shoulders,

how is the neck.

The ears, the form of the head.

Also you can see some details that

this kind of details

you study anatomy.

But this kind of details

where the person is looking at.

Where the character is looking at.

what is happening more

that in this drawing. And

with that in mind,

you can work

without problems mostly than the

they decide to change something,

or some camera angles,

or when you are doing animation also.

Will be more clear what movements

you are showing.

Because

I know in animation

the movement is important so

you don't really care about

how good is the anatomy or how good is

the lines of the character

when you are doing your first draft.

But you need to know also that

the animation for yourself,

you can work as you want.

But the animation for

people that is working and need to see

what you are doing,

it's really important.

So this kind of things

will make your life

easy,

especially at work.

are really fast look at

how to clean

the lines. And how to make

your sketches more fast.

Another important point that

not is

for this kind of work would

kind of help you

is like

should we improve this kind of work?

Or proceeding like

you making your sketches

clear or

trying to make them like

more understandable for other persons

and you are working faster and that stuff

also will help you to get more

easy way

to make the lineart, because I know the

line art is something that

when we are starting, it's difficult like

it's difficult to get

a correct lineart

that don't

ignore what the sketch

has to show us.

What I mean?

When we are starting that

in my experience at least.

I will try to do like.

Let me sketch.

Ok, you are doing your sketch.

Ok? And you have

this person that is here and,

and something like this.

Right?

Ok, I am doing this

trying to do this fast.

Well, you have your sketch with

crazy lines and that stuff.

So also it's a bit difficult what line

is clean and that stuff.

You have your character and you want to

because the sketch is a mess,

you want to make the lineart.

And make it

really nice. Because you want to color

your drawing and that stuff.

So

it's a mistake that we

try to

get

lineart that have all the information that

sketch have because

how many times you are doing your lineart.

And

you are looking at it and you say: okay,

this is not good.

This not shows what the sketch

was showing to me.

And it's frustrating because

you want your sketch being nice

and your drawing being nice and,

and

but it is really difficult to get that

because

sometimes when you are doing the lineart,

the sketch

have a lot of lines.

And you don't know really

what is the line

that is giving

total synergy

to your sketch.

And why is that? Because

your brain

it's completing

information

that is not there.

So a sketch

always will be nicer than a lineart, because

the lineart give you all the information.

And a sketch

give you freedom to your brain to

complete information. And your brain will

make it nicer. So that is

something interesting

that happens.

But you want to try

to get the better version of your sketch.

In my point of view, the better way is

like you have clear

what is happening in your

sketch at first.

Because if we can do here,

it's nicer there than here.

So

again my recommendation is that

if you do

a more clear sketch,

you will have a better idea

what are the correct lines

that you need

for make your lineart.

And make at the end, your illustration

because you are doing already

like similar lineart but it's

sketchy at the same time.

So you not need to worry about

how will look the

lineart at the end

because you have already that information

in your sketch.

Right? So it's

something I wanted to teach here

that maybe can help you.

You understand a bit more what

makes this kind of

work proceeding

a bit better compared to other ones.

From, of course, my point of view,

you guys are always free to

choose what you want to do,

or you want to work.

This only a recommendation because

from myself at least helped a lot in time

especially working for, for others.

And also working for myself because

when you are studying and you are,

when you have work,

and you have moments that you

will like to have more time

for make your stuff.

When drawing for yourself,

that will take you like

half day or a complete day.

You know? Because you don't have time

for yourself. Because you have

responsibilities in your work.

So you can give you like

1 hour or 2 hours to make some sketches. And

it's great that you can

finish those sketches and those drawings.

When you start them and you not

need to wait like

days for finish them because you are

slow making your drawings

or you are slow making

your anatomy. And you have fear of the

mistakes and stuff like that.

So

for me,

in my experience, work it a lot.

So for that reason, I recommend you to

try it. If you

don't get used to it or it's difficult

or you simply don't like it,

it's okay.

Everyone works different.

And

the thing here is that

I am giving you tools

for try to

help you to make your life

more easy when you are drawing.

So that's the thing.

Remember always don't have fear

when you are drawing.

If you make a mistake,

don't worry. We can

fix it really easy in those days.

And

always try to show you what you are doing.
