neighborhood half an hour

misplaced my tool chest

it is when you move.

- Oh, just a hammer
and a pair of pliers.

that house between the Bartons

and golf together.

I'm kind of sorry

that the gang's coming
over here tonight.

- Why?

- Oh, I don't know.

Every Tuesday night, we start
playing bridge about 8:15.

We play until 11:30.

Then we stop for
coffee and cake.

Then everybody goes home.

It's the same thing
week after week.

- Well, I thought you
enjoyed playing cards.

- Well, I do, for somebody who
doesn't like cards, especially.

- I thought you did.

- Well, I used to.

But it's getting
kind of monotonous.

We play bridge every Tuesday
night with the same people.

Every Thursday night, I go
bowling with the same guys.

I play golf with them
on Saturday morning.

I just feel we're
getting in a rut.

- Oh, I think you're
just tired or something.

Who knows?

Maybe you'll win tonight.

- Uh, it makes no difference
whether I win or lose.

That has nothing to do with it.
- Come on, dear.

You haven't set up the table
for the men in the living room.

- Well, no.

I'm not going to set it up.

- What do you mean?

- Well, uh, we're not
going to play bridge.

- Well, somebody set up the
table for the girls in the den.

- Well, yeah.
I did.

You girls can play if you like.

But I just don't feel
like playing tonight.

- Come on, dear.

They'll be here in
a couple of minutes.

- Harriet, I'm not going to
move to a new neighborhood just

to get a different
slant on life.

- What are you talking about?

- Well, for instance,
Harry Benson.

We were talking it over, and he
agrees with me wholeheartedly.

- Well he's new in
the neighborhood.

He wants to make friends.

- Well, sure.

He wants to make new
friends and do new things.

- Well, good for him.
[doorbell]

- Well, It'd be
good for all of us.

[clicking]

- Hi, come on in.

[chatter]

- Where are the girls set up?

- In the den, as usual.

- Well, come on, boys.

- Hey, where's our table?

- Oh, I-- I didn't set it up.

Uh, well, why don't we do
something else besides play

bridge tonight, huh?

- Come on, come on.

I'll lend you the money.

- It goes over here,
doesn't it, Oz?

- Well, yeah, don't you see
the four marks in the carpet?

- Where are the chairs?

- I tell you, I don't want
to play bridge tonight.

- We can use the
dining room chairs.

Come on, Oz, get
yourself a chair.

- I don't want a chair.

- Well, you can't
play standing up.

It's bad enough for you to
mark the card without trying

to look at your partner's hand.

- Evidently you guys haven't
been listening to me.

- Doc, get Oz a chair, huh?

I'm not going to
play bridge, fellas.

- High card deals?

- OK.

- Go ahead.

- Two of diamonds.

- Six of diamonds.

- Four of clubs.

- Come on, Oz.

- I'll pick one out for him.

- Well, you might as well
deal them for me, too,

because I'm not going to play.

- Oh, come on, Oz, we
can't play three handed.

- Well, play poker or hearts
or something, but count me out.

- What's the matter, Oz?

You want me to take
your temperature?

- No, I feel fine.

It's just that I'm tired of
the same routine every Tuesday

night.

I'm also tired of going
bowling on Thursday nights,

and playing golf every
Saturday morning.

We're in a rut, all of us.

- You mean you don't
love us anymore, Oz?

- Why, sure I do.

Look, do you guys like playing
bridge every Tuesday night?

- Well, sure.

- Wouldn't you rather sit
down and talk for a change?

Do something else besides
golf and bowling every week?

- Well, what would you suggest?

- Well, instead of golf, we--
we could go horseback riding.

Or instead of bowling,
we could go to a lecture

or take dancing lessons.

- What three handed
game can we play, boys?

- Do you guys want to play fish?

[laughter]

- Is it anything like old maid?

All the mail men

for that on Sundays.

- Carrying groceries.

golf every Saturday morning.

inconvenience the fellas.

See, we have this same
foursome every Saturday,

and I didn't figure
they'd have enough time

to get a replacement for
me on such short notice.

But this is the last Saturday.

It's our usual morning for golf.

doing anything usual anymore.

- Well, I didn't want to
leave you guys out on a limb.

You propounded a theory.

And crazy or not, we
don't want you to do

anything you don't want to.

- Well, I thought it might
be a little difficult for you

to find a fourth.

Well, you have all next week.

- We didn't have
any difficulty, Oz.

- Mr. Ozzie Nelson's
foursome to the tee, please.

When I lived in the
old neighborhood,

I played golf with
the same old faces

every Saturday,
week in, week out.

- Well, yeah.

That's the reason I
was a little surprised

to see you down here today

- Well, gee whiz, Oz.

These are new faces.

And I want to thank you for
introducing me to these fellas.

Great bunch of guys.

Yeah, I'm going to go bowling
with them Thursday night.

I was just wondering if I
could borrow your bowling ball.

It's in the downstairs closet.

- Isn't this your regular
night for bowling?

- Well, yeah.

It used to be.

But I don't have any regular
nights for anything, anymore.

- Then it's OK if
I borrow the ball?

- Oh, yeah, sure.

Where are you guys
going to bowl?

- Monahan's.

- Oh, gee, that's
where we used to bowl.

- Yeah, I know.

As a matter of
fact, we're bowling

against your regular
team tonight.

- Oh, you mean Doc and

- Yeah, and Mr. Benson.

- Oh, well, gee,

There are quite a few
interesting things

here in the paper.

Here's a political
science lecture at the Y.

They're having a
string quartet play

at the museum this evening.

Someplace here, I saw an ad
for that new roller skating

rink that's opening tonight.

- Well, it sounds like you're
going to have a lot of fun.

- Well, yeah, I just
got to make up my mind.

- Oh, you weren't planning
on taking the car, were you?

- Well, yeah, I was.

- Well, gee, I was
going to take it.

- Oh.

Well, I could drop you off
on my way to the museum

and then pick you up.

Only thing, though,
I'd hate to have

to leave right in the middle
of the string quartet.

- Well, maybe the
political science lecture

would be out earlier.

- No, after the lecture
they have discussions.

And, you know, those
things go on for hours.

- Well, the roller
skating rink would

be kind of out of the way.

- Yeah, I'm afraid it would.

- Say, I have an idea.

Why don't you come along
with me this evening?

- Oh, gee, I don't know.

- There are a lot of interesting
people at the sketch class.

I think it's just the thing
you've been looking for.

- Yeah, maybe you're right.

That sounds like a
pretty good idea.

What do I need?

- A piece of paper, a steady
hand, and your glasses.

- OK, I'll get my coat.

- Well, in the past
few months, you've

done very well with still lives.

But there's a great
deal of difference

between bowls of fruit,
mandolins, and the human form.

Well, tonight, we're going to
see how you do with the latter.

Miss Weber?

- Isn't this fun?

- Well, this is a model.

We're going to sketch her.

- Ladies and gentlemen,

- It's rather drafty in here.

going to take up sketching.

- Oh, well, I don't think
I'm quite ready for that sort

mandolins, and bowls of fruit,

and things like that.

- Well, if you're going back
tonight, I'll go with you.

- No, your Mother and I are
going to the fights tonight.

- Mom's going to the fights?
- Well, yeah.

After all, I went to the art
class with her last night.

- You're lucky you
didn't go bowling.

Boy, did we get waxed.

- So I understand.

- Well, that Harry Benson
sure is a good bowler.

I kind of felt sorry for
Dr. Williams and Mr. Darby.

What do you mean?

- Well, they didn't do so well.

After we finished
our match, they

paired off and bowled against
Mr. Barton and Mr. Benson.

I think he kind of took
them to the cleaners.

- Well, after all, they've won
a lot from me, over the years.

- Ozzie, I'm ready.

Well, have fun and
do a lot of studying.

- Gee, Pop, make up your mind.

[crowd cheering]

- Where are you going?

- Quickly outside.

- Well, my wife's coming back.

- I say let's play bridge.

- So Harriet's

- Well, I wouldn't

- Why don't you get Harry

- He's a nice fella, but he's
not a very good card player.

- He really isn't?

He wins all the time.

- And at golf, too.

- And he plays for high stakes.

Tell him how much
you lost at bowling.

- Well, now, that isn't
the part that bothers me.

It's just that he wants to
get paid off right away.

- Now I get it.

You guys are coming
home to the old pigeon.

- It's not that you're
a pigeon, exactly.

You've just had an unusually
long losing streak.

- Your luck's bound to change.

In the meantime, why should
you have to go to a stranger

to lose your money?

[laughter]

bunch of mercenary guys.
