From 1942 to 1945, Sam Byrne, a farm boy,

shared
who was drafted into the military,

wrote his personal account
of the war in letters home.

Forces continued the

fight for freedom in
Italy and southern France

until the FSSF was disbanded
on December 5, 1944.

Sam completed his
military service on

September 23, 1945
and returned to Wyoming

where he attempted to
to resume his normal life.

After two failed marriages,
happiness came when

Grace Ford came back into
his life in 1963 and they married.

Sam worked for
the railroad for a

long time until he retired in 1981.

He and Grace were married for 28 years until Sam
