The father had been reporting
his son missing.

We were very, very in love.

He would never leave me.
I know that.

So I just felt
like something was wrong.

I've had a lot
of strange investigations,

but this one is
the most gruesome

that I've been a part of.

There was a fleshy part
of either an arm or a leg

sticking out of one of the bags.

She had an ice pick.

I don't think that ice picks
are prevalent

in the state of Florida

and is not something
that an average Floridian

would have readily accessible
in their vehicle.

Deltona – It was built
in the '60s and '70s.

It's a suburb of Orlando.

Deltona is a large city.
It's bigger than Daytona.

Deltona is just
a middle-class community.

It's made up of homes
and some businesses.

As far as crime activity,

there's everything from
typical burglaries of the home,

burglaries of the car,

and a lot
of missing-persons cases.

So it certainly kept us busy.

We got a call from patrol

that a father had been reporting
his son missing

because he hadn't talked to him
in a couple of days.

And it was an adult
missing person –

Jimmy Sheaffer.

His father, from Pennsylvania,
told us Jimmy was

a on-again,
off-again limousine driver

driving
all over central Florida.

The relationship that Jimmy
had with his father was solid.

They talked every day.

Even while
he's driving this limo,

he was consistently
calling his dad.

When he didn't hear
from Jimmy for,

you know, two or three days,

he knew in his heart that
something happened to Jimmy.

So we went to Jimmy's address,

and we met his
live-in girlfriend, Candy,

and their son, Tyler.

I just felt like
something was wrong.

Sometimes he would work,
like, double shifts,

and he would get off, like,

about 3:00 or 4:00
in the morning.

But he should have been
home by now.

I didn't know what to think.

I was 16 at the time,
and I'm his first son.

He was, like, my best friend.
We was, like, so confused.

We had no idea where
he could have possibly been.

Both Candy and Tyler
tell detectives

they haven't heard from Jimmy
in over 48 hours.

And they've also filed
a missing-persons report.

Their worry is compounded
by strange text messages

Tyler received from Jimmy
earlier that morning.

Something to the effect
that he owed people money,

and he needs to make
himself scarce for a few days.

It said,
"I f'd up this time."

You know, "Don't call,
don't come looking.

Definitely please
don't call a cop."

It's crazy.

We're kind of asking ourselves,

"If he's gonna send a text
to his son,

why is he not communicating
with his father?"

Maybe something happened

where he's embarrassed
to tell his dad

and he doesn't want
to reach out to him.

When I read that message,
I thought,

"Well, that's just not right."

I didn't think that. There's
no way he could be involved

in anything
that would be so serious

that he would need
to run like that.

It just was just very strange.
I'm like, "This is not Jimmy."

He would just not leave us,
no matter what.

So at this point, it was,

"Okay, he's choosing
not to come home."

But without having the concrete
evidence for that,

we still had to pursue it
as a missing adult.

Detectives asked Candy for some
background information on Jimmy,

anything that might provide
a clue

to where he may have gone.

I met Jimmy in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

I was working for a company
selling Kirby vacuums.

He came in and started working
for the company,

and that's where we met.

He was very handsome.

He was real energetic,
you know, happy.

And I guess I was drawn to that.

And we moved from Lancaster
to North Carolina,

and I spent 10 years
in North Carolina with him,

and that's where
we had our babies.

Tyler and then
my other son, Chris,

and my daughter.

'07 is when we came to Florida.

My mom moved to Florida,

and we were just like, "Ooh,
I want to go to Florida, too."

It just seemed
like a vacation spot.

Everything's just so sunny
and so bright.

So it was – it was just nice.
We liked it.

We were just loving it.

And shortly after,

started working
for the limousine place.

Jimmy was always good
at driving

and he took pride in that
he was good at driving.

So he loved doing it.

He was a working man

and we were doing our thing
together as a family.

Candy tells detectives that she
and her three children

rely on Jimmy's
limo-driver salary

and his monthly
disability check.

Without those coming in,

she says they're in danger
of losing their home.

Jimmy always paid the rent,

and the kind of landlord
we had was, like,

the kind that "You don't pay me,
you're out."

When we left Candy's house,

I noticed across the street
a woman sitting on the ground

and two kids outside
playing with their cat.

I addressed the woman,

and she said her name
was Angela.

And asked her, "Hey, you know,
do you know Jimmy?"

And she – she kind of
indicated like,

"Yeah, but not really."

A neighbor tells investigators
she hasn't seen Jimmy

nor has any idea
where he might be.

Their next stop
is the limo company

where Jimmy worked part time –

the place Candy told them
he was heading on April 2nd,

the last time she saw him.

Pete Harrington
owned Diamond Limousine.

He had a big piece of land

with a big,
big, big house on it.

The limo company's
located at Pete's residence.

Detectives see Jimmy's
red truck parked outside.

It was unusual for Jimmy
to leave his car there.

He had never left his car there,
so that stood out to his boss.

A search of Jimmy's vehicle
turns up nothing of value.

Mr. Harrington
was very straightforward

with talking with us.

He said a couple of days before,

Jimmy had done a shift
driving a limousine.

Nothing seemed out
of the ordinary.

According to Pete,
Jimmy's last steps were,

he returns the limo some time
real early in the morning.

Jimmy gave Pete
cash from the trip

and some other gear
that the limousine driver

had to turn into the owner
of the business.

One of the things that was
turned in was a GPS tracker

that Jimmy was required
to carry to verify his route.

Jimmy's boss agrees to come
into the station

to continue the interview.

You can have a seat
right there.

Appreciate it.
Yes, sir.

Pete told us he had
a limousine mechanic

that lived on site
at the house.

John, the mechanic, was the last
person to see Jimmy alive

because he told his boss that
he saw Jimmy get into a car.

Pete tells detectives
that Jimmy and the mechanic

don't always get along.

Wondering if Jimmy's
disappearance could be related

to his rocky relationship
with the mechanic,

detectives quickly bring
John Brochu in for questioning.

They ask him to describe
the last time he saw Jimmy.

You kind of got to wonder
was it someone grabbed him?

I really wanted to know
who he was with,

at least who picked him up,

just to give some indication
that he was okay.

He told us about Jimmy
being in debt to some people.

[Laughs] Really?
When'd that happen?

We really didn't know
where Jimmy was.

He had been to her house.

I truly believed that we were
gonna find him there.

It was probably the most
horrendous house

I've ever seen in my life.

You could almost feel
the – the stench in the air.

Police in Deltona, Florida,

searching for missing
limo driver Jimmy Sheaffer

are questioning a co-worker,
John Brochu,

an auto mechanic who admits
he threatened to kill Jimmy

during an argument a week
before Jimmy disappeared.

The mechanic gives
a shaky alibi –

that he went to sleep
after seeing Jimmy

get into a black sedan.

With nothing to prove otherwise,
he's free to leave.

Detectives are now pressed
to search for the car

he says he saw Jimmy get into.

The "be on the lookouts"
get sent out

to other jurisdictions
in the area.

We go out and canvass
the neighborhood,

knock on doors, and look
for surveillance footage.

We had a photo of him
and we would just say,

"Have you seen this person?
Do you know this person?"

Talking to neighbors,

submitting subpoenas
for financial records

and that cellphone data.

So it's all kind of happening
at the same time.

We developed some leads
that he may be

in an apartment complex
over in DeBary

or in a neighborhood
over in DeLand,

which are nearby communities.

We follow up every piece
of information.

There's no sign of Jimmy
in either location.

Using information
from Jimmy's limo GPS tracker,

they visit all the places

he stopped during his last ride
on April 3rd.

So we go to those stops
and just say, "Okay,

did he pay somebody here
or did he tell somebody

he was coming back,
that he owed them money?"

But that didn't pan out at all.

We really didn't know
where Jimmy was.

Probably about three or four
days into the investigation,

at this point,
we're not getting anywhere.

We're doing a ton of legwork.

We're going to former places
of employment.

We're going to neighborhoods
where we know

that he's been in the past.

We're talking to associates,

probably talked to
hundreds of people.

We thought that Jimmy
may be staying temporarily

at a homeless camp.

Some of these homeless camps,
they're extensive.

Some of them tapped
into electricity,

making it very comfortable
for themselves.

So it wasn't out of the realm
of possibility

that he may be hiding out.

We got zero.
We didn't have anything.

I mean, it was like Jimmy
fell off the face of the Earth.

As police search for signs
of Jimmy Sheaffer,

his landlord carries through
his threat to evict his family.

Felt like the whole world
was falling on me.

I did not know what to say
or what to do.

He would never leave me.
I know that.

Jimmy – We were very,
very in love.

We had this bond.
He would tell me anything.

No matter what it was,
he would have told me.

So I just felt like
something was wrong.

We packed everything up
and it was a lot of things

and put it all in storage.

And then I went to stay
at my mom's house.

Only thing I can do
is just be strong for my kids,

but I didn't know what to think.

Jimmy Sheaffer's been missing
almost a week,

but when his subpoenaed
cellphone records come in,

it contained a glimmer of hope.

Cellphone records indicated
that his phone was active,

and it was pinging
in another city, in Sanford.

So we were thinking

that he may potentially
be alive, just hiding out,

as his text stated to his son.

We called 30 or 40 numbers
of his phone records,

just trying to see if any of
those folks had any information

as to where Jimmy might be,

is Jimmy with them,
has Jimmy contacted them.

All of those turned
into dead ends.

Investigators find
an intriguing detail

in the phone records.

Since he vanished,

Jimmy's been texting with
his neighbor, Angela Stoldt,

the same woman
who earlier told detectives

she didn't really know him.

When they returned to her home,
Angela admits

she's actually been helping
Jimmy manage his finances.

Jimmy didn't have
a bank account,

and whatever money
that he did make

driving limousines,
he would give to his

live-in girlfriend Candy
for her to use.

However his Social Security disability

would go
into his neighbor's account

and then she would give him cash
at certain amounts.

Angela's lies about
not knowing Jimmy

and the information about
their financial arrangement

tell detectives Angela likely
knows more than she's saying

about Jimmy's whereabouts.

Like, why are you
getting his money?

None of it kind of made sense.

And we asked her about

some kind of intimate
relationship with Jimmy.

There are text messages
a couple of weeks before this

where Jimmy's texting her
saying something about,

"Are my shorts
still at your house?"

So that seems
a bit intimate, right?

The other thing
was in his phone,

she was listed by the name
"neighbor,"

not Angela, not Stoldt.

And she's asked why
by the police.

And she says, "Because Candy
wouldn't like that

if she knew
that she was in his phone."

I said, "Angela,
you've got to tell us."

"I don't know anything.
I don't know..."

You know, and she wouldn't
make eye contact with me,

wouldn't look at me.

I thought that she was
definitely lying,

and I thought maybe that she was
involved with him...

romantically.

We were like, "Come on.
We're all grown people here.

If you had an affair with him,
it's no big deal. Just tell us."

And she said, "No, no."

Was I confident

that everything she was
telling us was the truth?

Not really.

We thought that Angela
was hiding him from us

because
she had those text messages.

Investigators ask Angela
to let them search her home,

and she agrees.

I truly believed that we were
gonna find him there.

♪

When you walk in, it's dark.

No lights.

There was disarray everywhere.

It looked like a dump.

There was something
right when I walked in

on the wall, down the wall.

And I'm like, "What is that?"

I thought it was blood spatter.

♪

A week after Jimmy Sheaffer
was last seen,

detectives in Deltona, Florida,

are searching the home
of his neighbor Angela Stoldt.

As they enter her house,

they immediately spot
what appears to be blood spatter

on the living room wall.

She told me it was barbecue
sauce, and at closer look,

yeah, it was definitely
not consistent with blood,

but nonetheless,
it was all over the wall.

She said she was cleaning.

She said she was – she was –
she was gonna get to that

and she was cleaning.

It was probably the most
horrendous house

I've ever seen in my life.

You could almost feel the stench
in the air.

It was just garbage
that had just been left

in the house
for days and months.

I went into Angela's bedroom
and what stood out to me

the most was she didn't have
any bedding at all.

There's no sign of Jimmy

amid all of the clutter
in Angela's house.

But as detectives pressed her
about the recent texts

she's received from Jimmy,
she makes a startling admission.

Angela indicated that he had
been to her house

throughout that search
period of time.

She had stated
that she took out money for him

and he had been back to get it.

She told us she saw him
in the middle of the week.

I was getting frustrated.
I said, "Angela,

if he turns up dead, I'm coming
and putting handcuffs on you

because you're the last person
to see him alive

and you're my prime suspect."

I said, "You need to tell us
where he is."

And she slammed the door
on me that day.

Detectives plan to keep
close tabs on Angela

as they continue
to work the case.

Two weeks go by
with no developments.

Then in the early hours
of April 20th,

a frantic call comes in

to the Volusia County
Emergency Services.

Angela's sister dialed 911
and spoke with one

of our – our
communications operators.

[Police radio chatter]

Her sister reported
that Angela had said

that she did some –
some really bad stuff,

that she was potentially
gonna harm herself.

And so that initiated
what we call the Baker Act,

which is basically
involuntary counseling,

basically, for,
you know, suicidal subjects.

Angela was taken into custody

and transported
to our Baker Act facility.

You can be held for up
to, I believe, 72 hours.

You're evaluated by a doctor.

Almost like a prisoner,
but it's a different status.

But she's secure
just the same way

you would secure a prisoner.

She told one of the deputies,

she said, "Hey, I got something
to tell Brady."

I got a call at –

I think it was 2:00 or 3:00
in the morning.

When I finally got
to the precinct,

she had already kind of
invoked her right not to speak.

I said, "If you get
a good night's sleep

and you change your mind,
I'll be ready to talk tomorrow."

Having slept on it, the next
morning, Angela agrees to talk.

It was an April Fool's
joke gone bad.

That's what she was saying.

Of course, that didn't make
a lot of sense.

But then she changes her story.

She kind of unfolded
this story, you know,

explaining that
their relationship was platonic

and that it was just –
they were just neighbors

and that she would loan him
money occasionally.

She was in receipt
of his disability payments.

They had the agreement where
as part of that joint account,

Angela would act as kind of
a custodian for those funds

and trying to help
James not gamble the money away.

And then you try and be
a little bit more responsible.

Jimmy ultimately kept
overdrafting the account.

And so, you know,
Angela being liable for that,

she was having to pay out

for his lack
of financial responsibility.

Angela tells detective she was
tired of Jimmy lying to her

about making withdrawals
from the account,

so came up with a plan
to get back at him.

Jimmy had recently asked
Angela's dad

for a loan
of a couple thousand dollars.

She told the police

that she set up this whole scam
with him

where she was supposedly
getting him the money.

So she texted him
that night and said,

"Call me when you get there
and I'll pick you up."

When she picked him up,
she had her children in the car.

Her daughter was 16
and her son was 17.

That's why the mechanic thought

there were several people
in the car.

There were several people.
She had her kids in the car.

She told us that she picked him
up at the limousine service

and then went back to her house.

Her kids went to bed.

And then she said
that she made Jimmy a drink.

In actuality,

Flexeril is a powerful muscle
relaxant that causes drowsiness.

She's telling the police
that Jimmy put it

in his own drink
and then they shared it

as though this was something
that they were doing together.

As they drank, Angela says,
Jimmy pressed her

about the loan from her father.

Angela tells detectives
that when they arrived

at the nearby cemetery,
she told Jimmy the truth.

Angela says she told Jimmy
this was retaliation

for overdrawing
on their joint account.

Angela Stoldt confesses
that she lured her neighbor,

Jimmy Sheaffer,
to an isolated cemetery

after serving him a drink laced
with a muscle relaxant.

She claims when she told him
she would not help him

get a loan from her father,
Jimmy became enraged.

She said that James
attacked her.

And there was a struggle
in the car.

She says
"He was making a lot of noise

and he's still fighting."

So she said she reached
behind her

and she found what she said

her kids used to climb trees
on, similar to nunchucks.

It was two pieces of either PVC
or something hard

with either rubber
or a rope between it.

And that somehow, she was able
to wrap that around his neck,

and then choke him.

I said, "Angela,
how did you know he was dead?"

She said, "Well, he quit moving.

And then I took the ice pick
out of that one eye.

I jammed it in the other eye
just to make sure he was dead."

I-I-I was completely shocked.

I mean,
I had to play a good part

and not let my jaw
hit the ground.

She admitted to picking him up
and being the killer,

but she's claiming
it's in self-defense.

She said, "But then I knew
that I had to get home

and I had to get rid
of his body.

So I had Saran Wrap in the car."

And she said, "I took Saran Wrap
and wrapped it around his head

to the headrest
so his head wouldn't flop over."

When she gets home,
she parks the car in the garage.

She told her children
not to come in the garage

as she had hit a deer.

I guess it gave her time
to do what she wanted to do.

She moves a kiddie pool
in her garage

and she uses her feet

and she pushes him out of
the car into the kiddie pool.

And then she goes inside

and watches TV
with her kids and rests.

When she woke up, she knew
she had to dispose of the body.

She described in fairly graphic
detail how she dismembered him.

To hear someone so casually
tell us the exact details

of how they killed somebody
is completely sick and horrific.

But Angela has more horrors
to describe.

In my law-enforcement career,

I've had a lot
of strange investigations.

But this one certainly is
the most gruesome

that I would – I would say
that I've been a part of,

not only for the – the way
in which James was murdered,

but also Angela's attempt
to cremate the body in the oven,

on the stove.

Obviously, that didn't work.

Detectives are reeling
from Angela's story,

but what she says next
sends a sharp shiver

down Detective John Brady's
spine.

She says, "Why didn't you
and your sergeant

come into my house that very
first day you came over here?"

That was probably one
of the most shocking moments

of the confession.

To me, just having a person
sit across from you

and tell you that,
you know,

while you're out front
of their house,

the victim's head is on a pot
on the stove.

We had been 20 feet away
from a dismembered body.

Inside that home,
I did not smell anything.

Knowing what I know now,
I was – I'm very surprised.

After she bagged up
all the parts and pieces,

she gets her son
to help load them into the car,

and then the three of them –
her, her son and her daughter –

travel around Volusia County

and dispose of various parts
and pieces

of James Sheaffer.

The car was taken as evidence.

We didn't recover
any blood in there.

She had told us
this unbelievable story,

but it's just a story
at this point.

There's no evidence
to back it up.

And quite frankly, I wanted
to recover Jimmy's body.

I said, "Angela,
if we went there,

would you be able to show me
the Dumpsters

that you put them in?"

And she said, "Absolutely."

So Detective Brady,
patrol deputy, Angela –

all go to the east side
of our county,

New Smyrna Beach area, to go

and try to find some evidence
to corroborate her story.

And she would just tell
the deputy, "Yeah,

this business here,
let's stop here.

This is where I put, you know,
two or three bags."

We didn't find anything
in those Dumpsters.

She was almost disappointed.

I mean, it's been, at this
point, two and a half weeks.

I said, "It's probably been
emptied at least once."

John calls me, and he says,
"Hey, there's nothing here.

There's another place
that she says something is at.

It's over by this boat ramp
in New Smyrna,

Lake Ashby Road.

I said, "Okay, well,
I'll meet you guys there."

Then she points to a wooded area
where she said

that she had discarded things
from her vehicle.

We found what looked
to be a carpet

that had been ripped out
of her trunk.

And we also found a piece
of the cut-up kiddie pool.

Well, that's when I got excited.

I said, "Alright.
She's telling us the truth."

Almost three weeks

after the disappearance
of Jimmy Sheaffer,

his neighbor Angela Stoldt
is leading police

to locations in central Florida

where she claims to have
dumped parts of his body.

We found what looked
to be carpet

that had been ripped out
of her trunk.

And we also found a piece
of the cut-up kiddie pool.

So I got pretty excited
because I'm like,

"Hey, this is the first thing
that we have

besides her statement
that a crime has been committed

and she's responsible for it."

But there's no body parts.

And she says,
"Well, I've got other places.

There's a cemetery where
I disposed of some things."

Angela directs them to
the small town of Osteen

in Volusia County.

So the Osteen Cemetery,

it's somewhat of a remote place
and it's surrounded by woods.

It's kind of a local
dumping ground.

She told our deputy to park
under this one oak tree

and she said,
"This is where it happened."

She pointed to what looked to be
fresher garbage bags.

There was a fleshy part
of either an arm or a leg

sticking out of one of the bags.

Crime-scene techs arrive
and begin cataloging

and photographing everything
they find.

It looked like at least two of
the bags had been ripped open

by some kind of wild animal.

There were a few bones

that were kind of scattered
on the ground.

I just see this black pot.

And bedding.

I put the pieces together

that that was why
she didn't have the sheets

and the comforter anymore.

It was in the crime scene.

We did recover clothing
that matched

what we had been told Jimmy
had last been seen in.

We did not find
the ice pick itself,

but inside one of the bags
was an ice pick container.

We did not find the device
she used to strangle him.

[Camera shutter clicks]

While police continue
to document the gruesome scene,

Angela tells detectives
she has more to show them.

And then she took me to a park,

and right next to one of those
doggie poop-bag stations,

she said, "Just dig down
about 6 or 8 inches."

I dug up a clear sandwich bag

that had Jimmy Sheaffer's
driver's license in it.

And then she took me to another
park back in Deltona.

Right out front,
there was a sign.

And that's where she buried
his cellphone.

Detectives are surprised
to find Jimmy's cellphone

several miles away
from where his phone records

indicated it was last used,

but Angela has an explanation.

She would go and take his phone
out occasionally,

put the battery in,
drive over to Sanford

and pretend he was still alive.

The phone was generally off

except when she turned it on
in Sanford.

She would respond
to text messages to Candy,

to his family,
saying things like,

"The police are looking for me.

Don't make it worse for me
by going to the police.

People are gonna find me
and then I'll be killed."

She was lying to all
of his loved ones,

pretending he was still alive.

She also was texting herself
from Jimmy's phone,

saying things like,

"You can go ahead
and keep the money."

Angela Stoldt is arrested

and charged
with second-degree murder.

Investigators are finally able

to give Jimmy Sheaffer's
family some answers.

Death notifications are one of
those things that you walk into

and you know
there is no good part of it.

It's always gonna be
a painful thing to experience.

They were like,
"Well, you know,

there's no easy way
to say this.

We found remains."

And so, instantly, you know,
it's just like...

I just couldn't believe it.

It's –
You can't believe it.

This can't be true.
You know?

And I'm just in shock
and everything.

And I couldn't believe
that it was her.

This skinny, little woman.

Jimmy was big and strong.

How? [Sighs]

So much anger
I felt at that moment.

Although so much
of Jimmy's body

is missing or destroyed,
investigators hope an autopsy

will provide
forensic confirmation

of Angela's horrific story
about how she killed him.

This case was complicated
because of the amount of effort

that went into damaging
and destroying the body

after the person was killed.

What we received
was a mixture of bones.

A stew pot like
for a turkey fryer,

a large aluminum pot
with decomposed material in.

We have portions of feet
that are in socks

with all the bones of the feet.

However, we do not have
the entire skeleton.

There were cooking implements,
including large metal tongs

and also rubber gloves, which
had decomposing flesh on them.

So that was a very unusual
menagerie of items

that we found
coming to our office.

I'd say 90% of the body was
probably destroyed in this case.

And when you cook human tissue,
any tissue, like meat,

you denature the proteins

and everything was essentially
completely liquefied.

All the forensic evidence
in this case

came from analysis of the bones,

as they were really all
that remained in good condition.

The medical examiner is unable
to determine

the actual cause of death,
but DNA confirms the body parts

Angela led police to
are from Jimmy.

We reached out
to Jimmy's parents.

We got swabs from his family
that matched.

After hearing the awful details
of the case,

a grand jury elevates
the charges against Angela

from second
to first-degree murder.

If it's first-degree murder,
I have an additional element

of premeditation
that has to be proven.

Do I believe it was
premeditated?

I absolutely do.
She had a kill kit.

On December 1, 2014,
a year and a half

after the disappearance
of Jimmy Sheaffer, Angela Stoldt

stands trial for his murder
and dismemberment.

Angela Stoldt came across

as the most bizarre
defendant I prosecuted.

She would say
what she did to his body

as though we were having coffee

and this was something
she talked about all the time.

There was a disconnect there.

The prosecutor tells jurors

that Angela only confessed
to killing Jimmy

because she realized police
had begun to suspect her

and in order to set up
a self-defense claim.

In fact, the prosecutor argues

Angela carefully
planned this murder.

We found an hour
before the murder,

Angela Stoldt goes to Wal-Mart

and she purchases
yellow rubber gloves,

some blue rubber gloves
and some Saran Wrap.

She also purchased saw blades.

She had an ice pick.

I don't think that ice picks
are prevalent here

in the state of Florida

and not something
that an average Floridian

would have readily accessible
in their vehicle.

She goes and picks him up from
work at 3:00 in the morning.

She gave him Flexeril.

She was stealing the Flexeril
from her father.

She told the police that she was
purposely luring him.

She was lying to him
about getting him some money.

She knew he was in financial
distress and she used that.

She took him to a cemetery.

He was completely out of it.

She stabbed him in the eye.

And then she strangled him.

The motive, the prosecutors
suggest, was greed.

As long as the Social Security Administration

thought he was alive,
she'd be getting –

It was just over $900 a month.

That money would go into the
bank account as a direct deposit

every single month
that they thought he was alive.

So she would have
had access to that.

The prosecution lays out
how Angela convinced her

two teenage children
to help her dispose of the body,

claiming that she'd hit a deer.

No charges are filed
against her children

because there is no evidence
to show

they knew they were helping
their mother with a murder.

Her son did help his mother

find the locations to dispose
of the trash bags,

and then he assisted
in lifting them into the car

and lifting them out of the car.

He just didn't know what
the contents of the bags were.

Her daughter testified that
she was sitting in the back seat

next to some trash bags

and that it was a horrible,
horrible smell in the car.

When Angela Stoldt takes
the stand,

she hopes to press her claim
that she acted in self-defense.

But it doesn't go well for her.

Her attorney asks her,

"Why did you have
Saran Wrap in the car?"

Her first instinct was to say,
in front of the jury,

"My son needs it.
We make scary masks."

And as an afterthought,
she says, "And to wrap food."

She's asked,
"Why did you have an ice pick?"

She said it was to hang food
on a tree when they go camping.

Those sorts of things
that she said came across

as just strange and bizarre.

On December 5, 2014,
after 3 hours of deliberations,

the jury returns with a verdict.

They came back unanimous,
guilty as charged.

First-degree murder
carries with it

a mandatory life sentence.

She's in prison
for the rest of her life

so that she can never do

to anyone else
what she did to Jimmy.

And I feel like she
is where she belongs.

She's a terrible human being.

She... killed our life with him.

You know, she ended that.

Who would do something
like this?

You – You are evil.

You don't deserve anything.

I wish we had, like, video,

something with his voice,

something you could hear, something.

I don't know. Something.

He was a great guy.

He was the best dad.

Ain't nobody gonna take
his place.

I was blessed to have him
for 17 years.

He was wonderful.

I couldn't ask
for a better father for my kids.

He was so good with them.

He would love to see
the grown-up versions of them,

to be a grandfather.

He really missed out.

I hope he can see it
from heaven.
