- He's the one that should be hung up

by his silly neck.

- Old Lance would hate
to have to serve you up

to Captain Krock for an appetizer.

(Achoo sneezes)

(Hacha hooting)

(Nani laughing)

- Who's that?
- Who is that there?

We're up here.

- [Gnasher] It's a

Hey!

(tense music)

- [Achoo] Go get him, Bobo.

Be a mite tasty in our blue
ape stew come nightfall.

- I is halfway there, Achoo.

(exciting music)

- Get 'em!

- Boo.
(Nani screams)

(tense music)

(Swampy roars)

(Nani gasps)

- Where's that there being?

I just seen him go thataway.

Or was it thisaway?

(tense music)

- Watch out for them rickety slats, Bobo.

- No use running, landlubber.

You're trapped.

(Nani screaming)
(water splashing)

You squiggly thing, Ya-

(water splashing)

(tense music)

(cage trundling)

- Well, look at what we catched ourselves.

Some rare bird, I wager.

- It's sure funny looking.

I ain't never seen nothing so ugly.

- The captain'll be mighty
pleased, I'm thinkin', Bobo.

(Bobo laughs)

- Yeah, Achoo.

- Come on, let's get the
stew pot simmered up.

- [Nani, V.O.] This
sure is a terrible place

to be alone in.

I hope Mr. Quack Quack is okay.

I wonder who this fellow is.

- My name is Hacha.

I'm a rare blue ape.

Don't fret, my fine fellow.

All we have to do

is try and think what Oompah would do

in a situation like this.

I suppose you're wondering to whom I refer

when I mention Oompah.

And also, you're asking
yourself why I'm so blue.

Well, to give you the
answer to both questions,

I'll have to go back quite a few years.

You see, many years ago,

this island was inhabited
on one side by my ancestors,

and on the other, the one we're on now,

by these horrible
creatures we call Swampies.

(sinister music)

They were ruled by the
brutal Captain Krock.

(birds squawking)

(sinister music)

Pirates from the far places of the world

used to use this island
as a watering place.

When my grandfather
Oompah was just a baby,

he was sold to a Chinese pirate.

But the pirate's wife

refused to have a baby
ape around the house,

much less a blue one.

And eventually, poor old
Oompah was sold again,

this time to an English lord.

(upbeat music)

So Oompah was raised in England

in the grand Victorian manner.

(upbeat music)

On Sunday afternoons, he went for rides

in Lord Pennington's Stanley Steamer.

(upbeat music)
(horn honking)

(hood clunking)

This was the start of
Oompah's inventive genius.

When Oompah was grown up,
he came back to our island

and started his own family.

Granddad raised his family
not as wild animals,

but in the grand Victorian manner.

Just as he had been
taught by Lord Pennington.

His son, my pater, Rumtum,
treats my mater, Hairybell,

like she was indeed the Queen Mother.

And she loves it.

She has truly carried on
all the fine traditions

and social graces of
Oompah's formal upbringing,

which, I might add, is in
keeping with the royal blood

that flows through our veins.

Granddad built our house among
some sheltering palm trees.

When the trees grew tall,

we all suddenly found
ourselves living above it all,

as they say.

(pensive music)

We are, without a doubt,
the original blue bloods,

as anyone that isn't
colorblind can readily see.

(Achoo sniggers)

- [Achoo] We hates to break up

this little téte-a-téte, gentlemens,

but since his Highness here

refuses to cooperate with Captain Krock,

I'm thinking yous both
could use some prodding.

Eh, my buckos?

(Bobo chuckles)

- I think I'll twist off an ear to start.

- Ow!

- Stop it!

Stop it, you big bully.

Did I say something?

Did you hear me?

- [Hacha] O-of course.

Of course I did.

But I doubt if those two stupid dolts

were aware that you spoke.

We rare blues are capable of many things.

Those behind us, on a
lower level, are not.

I can hear you perfectly.

But I'm afraid these (scoffs) creatures

will never, ever hear you.

- You mean I can say
anything at all I want

and they can't hear me?

- That's right.

- Hey, there,

what kind of bilge water are
you telling this little bloke?

- Leave him alone, you overgrown hippo.

- Flattery will get you nowhere.

By the way, boy, what's your name?

- Nani De Groot.

" Enough!

If'n yous have a notion
to bleet your gums,

yous can tell old Achoo where the mine is.

And yous can both go back to
that green crud you call home.

What d'you say, blue boy?

- I say, how did you come
by such a large protuberance

on the front of your face, sir?

- God, I'll have your heart for that.

(pot bubbling)

- [Bobo] Ain't this going
to be scrumptious, Delilah?

(Delilah squawks)

- I can hardly stand the waiting, Bobo.

- Ijust hope that little
being tastes as fine

as this here caviar of rat and lizard.

(Delilah squawks)

- Does you think the rare
blue'll stain me pot, Bobo?

- Er, well, ljust hopes
she don't stain me stomach.

- [Achoo] Look at what we got here.

Another one of them funny chickens.

A feathered fowl with a lip
like you ain't ever seen.

Here, Bobo.

- Ah, [indistinct], a dear rumcake.

Look at his tie, a real
dandy he is, ain't he?

- Throw him in the pot, Bobo.

- And spoil me stew?

Captain Krock'll run a spike
right through me gizzard.

- Yeah, it tastes as crummy
as a chicken, like it's not.

(duck quacking)

(somber piano music)

(Mother sobs)

- No one on the river has seen him.

- Nor the boat, and that's good, Mother.

An empty boat is a sign to fear.

He'll be back, you'll see.

- [Achoo] Wither the greens,

sliver the beans,

up with grime, and filth and slime.

On blue ape stew, tonight we dine.

(Swampies laughing)

(tense tribal music)

- [Nani] That ugly thing,
that pig idol, what is it?

- That's the Idol of Muck.

One of the Twin Gods of Shmug.

Its twin idol, Mire,

is at the top of the
Cracked Skull Mountains.

In the old days, all
Captain Krock had to do

was turn the key in Maya's nose

and the poisonous shmug poured
out over the entire island.

It was like a poisonous gas

coming up through the top of the mountain

from the mine below.

But not even Krock

knows the location of the mine's entrance.

Even I don't know where it is.

- And now, me buckos,
you're in for a big treat.

Albeit with pain in me
blackstone and shmug in me eyes,

I have the honor, on the eve
of our annual Mudder's Day,

to present to yous warriors all,

our chief mudder, the
King of Muck and Mire,

Lord of the Swampy World and
protector of Cannibal Isle,

Cap'n Ulysses S. Krock.

Let's hear it for Krock.

(Swampies chattering)

- Now, we're in for it.

(tense music)

- Stand aside, you creeps.

I'll make crocodile shoes
out of your carcass. (laughs)

I I'm Captain Krock I

I King of the beasties I

I A ruler of muck and mire I

I Strong as a lion I

I Bold as an eagle I

I I'm fierce as a raging fire I

I Captain Krock, one in a million I

I Handsome and witty to boot I

(Krock cackles)

I Me glance turns a noisy crowd mute I

(Krock cackles)

I Hard as a rock I

I Slick as a lizard, or
an elephant's gizzard I

I Munching on beetles I

I A toothpick of needles I

- It'll be a paradise.

(Swampies cheering)

- Fire the stew pot, me hearties.

- I'm afraid only a
miracle can save us now.

(tense synth music)

landlubbers. (laughs)

- They're gone, disappeared!

It's eerie is what it is!

- Shiver me timbers, you dunderhead.

That's impossible.

To the war canoes, mateys!

(Krock growls)

We'll catch 'em.

(duck quacking)

(pensive music)
(water splashing)

- What's the name of this river?

(dUCk quacks)

- The Sliver River, as granddad calls it.

I guess because it's so slim,
yet fast and treacherous.

- What a beautiful flower.

- Those beautiful flowers
have a double purpose.

We make rose gas from the pollen.

- [Krock] When we catch 'em varmints,

slit their bloody throats.

Ah-ha, from ear to ear.

Bring back their hearts.

Nothing else, just their bloody hearts.

Do you hear?

(Krock growling)
(Swampies murmuring)

(distant tribal music)

- I hear a familiar chant.

- [Achoo] Gnasher and Sawtooth, Captain.

They's the fastest.

(flower hissing)

(Swampy sploshing)

(Swampy groaning)

(water splashing)

- Hold on there, mateys.

What's that?

(Krock groans)

It's a bit of cofier off of
that there dandy, I'll wager.

Pick up yours, you lily-livers.

Or I'll have your head,
along with them boys.

Nobody outsmarts Krock for long

and lives to tell about it. (laughs)

We'll have their livers yet. (laughs)

(birds chirping)

- Hacha, the river's moving much faster.

- [Hacha] They call
this the River of Rage.

You can hear it.

(water sloshing)

Pull into the bank there, old boy.

The Phantom Falls.

If it is, we may be in luck.

We'll have to sacrifice the boat.

Make them think we're
in it when it goes over.

(duck quacking)

- Where's Mr. Quack Quack going?

Mr. Quack Quack, come back here!

- He's giving up his life to save you.

But Krock and his brutes
are in for a big surprise.

Quick, let's go.

(water raging)

To think a puny boy being
and a dandified blue ape

could out-row, outsmart and generally make

a bunch of full grown Swampies
look like ignorant stupes

is more than Krock can fathom.

Get!

(Krock groans)

Oh, I'm desperate.

- I sure miss Mr. Quack Quack.

- Sure you do, old chap.

But remember, Nani, you've
got someone to talk to now.

Me.

- You and me, we're gonna
make a swell team, Hacha.

- Right you are.

That's the way to talk.

Wait 'til you meet Granddad Oompah.

He's a real genius.

- Why, Oompah's tactical
genius and inventive skill,

combined with you and me,
could have beaten Napoleon.

- And Wellington, too. Even Alexander.

this darn greeny stuff.

(duck quacking)

- Faster, Nani, here they come.

(Bobo gurgling and spitting)

- [Achoo] Well, you should
have climbed down like me,

you clot.

You see, there ain't nothing to it.

(Achoo screams)
(water splashing)

- Er, which way did they go, Achoo?

(Achoo choking)

- Downstream, stupid.

Get moving.

Pick up them big feet.

This time, we're going
to string them up bare.

- You knows I is anchorman
on the Swampy's top team.

- Yeah, I noticed you moves like one.

Or just forget to raise it.

- [Nani] But Hacha, that's
desert as far as the eye can see.

Sand and scrub...and sun.

- [Hacha] Yes, Granddad has mentioned

the bad, bad desert as
being decidedly off limits.

But at this point, it's our only choice.

- [Nani] You mean we
have to climb down there?

- [Hacha] Well, we surely cannot go up.

Achoo and Bobo are right behind us.

I'm afraid they give us no choice.

- That sun's burning even brighter.

- I do believe he's found something.

- It's a pump of some kind, old and rusty.

I wonder if it still works.

- By golly, old boy.

This is our miracle.

Cross the cracks and die by firelight?

Strange words.

Cracks must refer to the
Cracked Skull Mountains.

That's the Cracked Skull Mountain.

And at the very top is the Idol of Mire,

where the horrid shmug was emitted.

- [Nani] But Hacha, what
does "die by firelight" mean?

- [Hacha] I hope we
don't have an opportunity

to find out the answer to that riddle.

(somber piano music)

- It's getting late, dad.

What have you been doing?

- Oh, nothing much, really.

Just puttering.

I'm through, anyway.

- Mm...mum wants you to come up.

She's feeling poorly tonight.

- Yeah, she's been feeling
poorly quite a lot lately.

- There, there, little
fellow. We're safe now.

Achoo and Bobo could never make it across

the bad, bad desert.

They don't help each other out like we do.

- That's right, old chap.

- [Bobo] I ain't seen a single lizard

foul enough to be ate yet
in this greeny tangle.

- Ain't it disgustin'?

All these plants and flowers
ain't fit for man, nor beast.

Much less gentlemens like us.

- What do we do next, Achoo?

- We sit down and wait, stupid.

If they make it this far, which I doubt,

they ain't gonna be in much
condition to put up a fight

with no water in their gullet.

- Yeah. (chuckles)

We know the shortcut
around the bad, bad desert.

Huh, Achoo?

- As a keeper of the Key of
Mire, I make it my business

to find the easy way to the idol, dum-dum.

- Er,

I wonder why it ain't spewing
out no more shmug, Achoo.

- Well, it's my notion
them blues know full well.

And that's why we're here.

Now, shut up and keep your eyes open.

I'm going to catch me a short nap.

There are lots of wild
animals on the Cracked Skull

and they can be --

- Wow, what's that?

- The Twin Idol of Muck.

- The Idol of Mire?

Muck and Mire, they sure named them right.

- Quite right.

See the holes in the snout?

That's where the shmug was emitted.

- I've got a piggy bank
that looks just like it.

Only not quite so ugly.

Hey, could it be possible

for the idol's stomach to be growling?

- What you're hearing are
the underground drafts

miles below the surface.

The subterranean limestone
caves we call "The Cracks"

are directly below.

Nani, behind you.

(Nani screams)

- [Achoo] Oh, we're
blasted sick of flowers.

- That little bean slipped
right outta my hand, Achoo.

- Oh, shut up, stupe.

After 'em, they's heading
back to the desert.

(Bobo chuckles)

- We'll catch 'em this time.

- Wait, Hacha.

You're going the wrong way!

- No, look up ahead.

It's the lost mine of Muck and Mire.

(duck quacking)
(eerie music)

- So that's what Krock's been looking for.

- Yes.

And now, I know why the
swampy scouts stayed away.

Look at the huge vine.

- [Nani] And giant flowers.

You can smell the rose gas from here.

Come on.

- Wait a minute.

Be careful, Nani.

- [Nani] Hurry, Hacha! Let's look inside.

- Nani! Nani! Come back.

- [Nani] Hurry up, Hacha.

- Be careful, Nani.

- [Nani] Okay, Hacha.

(fading and echoing) I will!

- Nani, where are you?
