is battling to save
his chaotic season.

of his 6,000 ounce gold.

Tony is now focused
on mining Paradise Hill,

and his main money maker,

the 40-foot long trommel

is his only hope
of saving his season.

But he still has to finish
assembling the plant

before it can start
catching gold.

Tony's eldest son,
Kevin and partner Faith

dropped a bombshell.

We've been thinking
that perhaps this year,

we might take it off.

Without chief mechanic, Kevin.

Tony struggled for months

to get his trammel reassembled.

And last week,
daughter Monica took action.

I think it's been
almost 10 months

since the trommel has run,

and it's very frustrating
with Tony.

I don't think he quite realized

how much of that
me and Faith took on.

So far,

Tony and Mike have replaced
the trommel's broken drive ring

and moved the wash plant
onto a new pad.

Now, Kevin and his crew must
bring in the sluice deck.

Attach it to the trommel
with a distribution box.

Then, connect the water supply,

bring in a conveyor,

and finally, the hopper feeder.

And the kicker,

Tony wants it all done
by the end of the week.

Kevin's first task,

hauling the gold
catching sluice deck.

Forward a bit.

Keep going, keep going,
keep going, keep going.

No, I think that went well.

So you have to back up a bit
and we'll swing her over.

Next, Kevin
will install the conveyor

that feeds pay dirt
into the trommel.

So we have our excavator
on the back end.

We have our crane
on the front end.

We're about to lift
the conveyor in.

We're gonna have
to walk forward slowly.

That's far enough.

To bolt the conveyor in,

Kevin must line it up
with pinpoint accuracy.

So that's hasn't changed.

The issue is that's bent

when these holes line up,

The only holes that this thing
even remotely lines into

is the angle piece
in the middle.

But then, these are about
a foot too far back.

So we'll slide them in there

and then I'll play welder.

The conveyor can feed

350 yards of dirt an hour
into the trommel,

but the struts
that support the conveyor

are bent and won't line up.

To fix them,

Kevin will cut the struts
from their crossbeams

and pull them into alignment

before welding
the crossbeams back

to lock everything in place.

It is incredibly too hot
for this.

pit them in the first two.

And then I'm gonna get out
the welder

and the torch
and make the rest fit.

This plant got built
for this property

by one of the owners
many years ago

and it's one of the biggest
wash plants

ever ran in the Yukon, actually.

It's a beast.

I bet there's a bunch of gold
hidden in this plant somewhere.

I might need to cut it apart.

But for now,
that'll have to wait.

I mean, there's a mountain
of work to do.

In the heart of the Yukon,

Parker Schnabel
is in uncharted territory.

Having three different projects

going at once is just brutal.

halfway through the season,

we're sitting on

a rough year

but, you know,

there's just so much change
and so much going on.

After gambling
$15 million on Dominion,

plus millions more to strip it,

Parker opened Ken and Stewart's

to keep the cash coming in.

When Dominion began sluicing,

he found himself stretched thin

and thinner still
when four weeks ago,

he broke ground
at a third claim,

Australia Creek.

We're all spread
all over the place

and, you know, it really hurts,

but the clock is ticking
very fast.

Like, the second half
of the season

and it's, you know...

It's a lot.

Now, down at Ken
and Stewart's...

His El Dorado cut is tapped out

and he's shutting down
the operation.

It's the last time
Sluicifer will be

catching gold down
on Ken's for this year.

trying to get this stuff

we are trying to get
ready for a wash plant.

Once we get the pad
all in place and ready,

we're gonna start bringing up
components from Sluicifer

and start getting ourselves
ready to just wash rocks.

Until Sluicifer
moves to Australia Creek,

down to just one wash plant

to bankroll his season.

We're spread pretty
thin right now.

to shut down.

a channel here for the water

to relief out
of where the pump is.

The water
in Big Red's settling pond

is held back
by a 50-foot high dam.

But a failure
on one side of the dam

has sent thousands
of gallons of water

flooding into the neighboring
intake pond,

drowning the pump that sends
water to the plant.

To save it, Parker will use
an excavator

to divert the water into a ditch

away from the intake pond,

then pack the hole
in the dam with tailings.

And finally with a dozer,

reinforce the bank
to stop it happening again.

This is so sketchy to sit on

'cause you don't know what's
solid ground and what's not.

Walk you piece of.

I relieved it now,

so it should start coming down.

All right. We've got
the water level down

about 6 inches so far,
so that's good.

With the floodwater
safely diverted,

Parker must now rebuild
the dam to plug the hole.

We're gonna start
round two of chaos

if we're not really careful.

You can still see a gap
right where my bucket is,

it's actually
where the failure happened

that caused this.

It's just like
a little cavern down there.

The only way I know
how to solve problems

is just by force and volume.

So, we're just gonna shove
a bunch of dirt in there

and try to see if it'll stop.

down there in the 450

and, I'm up here just trying
to get our berm repaired.

We'll fine-tune and pack it in,

make sure it's all done right

so we don't have
this problem again.

When you're up against
a Virgin Bank like this

and it's... The gravel thaw's
way faster than the mud

but it gives routes
for the water

to go underneath the mud.

I just wanna really seal
that up good.

To widen the dam, Parker tiptoes

his 63-ton D10 dozer

along the brink
of a steep 50-foot drop.

we made it a good 10 feet wider,

packed the out of it.

Ninety minutes
after the dam burst,

Parker's completed repairs.

The pump is safe and Big Red
hasn't missed a beat.

If Kayden hadn't caught it,

that pump
would be underwater by now

and we would be shut down.

to get his season

out of first gear,

having mined just a quarter
of his 1,000 ounce target.

There's no doubt
that this year is do-or-die

after taking a year off.

The biggest trip
has been pretty marginal.

I've been doing everything

as economically
and tightly as I can.

I've already got three-quarters
of a million dollars

invested just in running costs.

And we're sure

don't have a three-quarters of
a million dollars of gold yet.

To get his comeback
season on track,

Rick is leaving the lean
Bacon Strip behind

and is going all in
on the bench cut.

I really expect the gold
for this to be a lot better.

I don't know. It's gonna be
spotty I guess maybe.

But, you know, hopefully
in the long run it pays off.

And judging by the records
of the previous miners,

you know, it should pay out,
you know, really double

what we've been getting out
of Bacon Strip.

But I don't have a road
over to it... To it yet.

So, that's what I'm working
on right now.

If I don't get this road
done in time,

then we're gonna be sitting
without running the plant

and that's just not acceptable

because I can't afford
any downtime this year.

To access the bench,

Rick's crew
are using compacted tailings

to build a single track road

that curves
around an old holding pond,

then rises over 100 feet

to reach the gold
rich pay at the bench.

We should
be getting pretty close.

Maybe a couple more
loads a piece

ought to probably do it.

The crew starts stockpiling

the pay dirt next to Rocky

before they can fire up and see

if the bench holds gold

to turn Rick's season around.

It is pretty much
a highway in my opinion now,

which, should be good for us.

I'm jinxing us at this point.

To hit Rick's

the bench cut needs to deliver

over 70 ounces a week.

and everything's working out,
timing wise.

Feels good to be pulling pay

alert on my phone

saying there's a wildfire threat

located in the Mayo Region.

Residents and workers
in the area

should be prepared

the trommel has been shut down

just seconds
after its first fire up

in nearly a year.

If that is our outside ring,

our inside ring
is essentially like this.

Our outer ring here
is not lined up

with the inner trommel.

It's closer to one side
than on the other.

Almost an inch difference
in parts,

which is a big difference.

Last week, Tony and Mike

rushed to fit a new
outer ring to the trommel.

Sometimes you just
gotta get nasty.

The 12-inch wide
outer ring sits on rollers

that rotate the 40-ton barrel,

but Tony and Mike's repair

has left it off center,

stopping the trommel
from spinning.

This year has been a long
consistent line of

well, that didn't work.

Kevin's stuck in a hole.

Looking like a straight gremlin.

Lord, I'm

That ring should have been
checked and rechecked.

At this point already,

we're supposed to have

put so much effort

is feeding pay dirt

through Parker's
only running wash plant.

It's definitely more hectic
than Sluicifer

for being here at Big Red,
but it's okay.

It's manageable.

Just busy.

450 feet away,

Parker is reinforcing the dam

that burst earlier in the week.

Normally Mitch or Tyson
would be dealing with this stuff,

but they're, you know,
deep in the Australia Creek.

So, you know,
I cover when I can,

which is not very often.

Well, that's not good.

There's no water coming out
of our culvert in our dam.

There's water
in one end of the pipe,

but it's not coming out
in the other,

which means
gravity defying water

or, um,

or I didn't put
the pipe in level.

In the race to fix the dam,

Parker's misaligned
the angle of a culvert

that acts as an overflow.

The pond side end is too high,

meaning excess water can't flow

out of the settling pond

and the dam could burst
once again.

Because if this fails again,

we'll probably lose the pump.

To prevent another flood,

Parker needs the 30-foot
culvert to lie flat,

but excavating
the dirt around it

risks weakening the dam.

If I'm not careful right now,

the whole dam will blow out

just from working around
the edges of the culvert.

It's not really ideal scenario.

So I don't think there's
really much more I can do

other than just like
shove some dirt in here

and try to compact it
a little bit,

and, um, see what happens.

I won't feel
like we've succeeded

until there's water
flowing through the culvert.

Now Parker needs to climb out

over a 40-foot drop
and check for blockages.

There's a bunch of moss
and clogged up in here.
