saw. The start point

of the programme of course is
what is going to be a guidance guru.

Guidance has been defined
as the services or activities

that will help an individual at any age
throughout their lives

to make choices concerning
education, occupation and training.

And of course, to help them
manage their careers.

This definition was agreed upon
and given by all OECD.

That is the Organisation
of Economic Co-operation and Development,

which was formed in 1961,
and India has been a recent entry into it.

It wasn't made to become a member
very in the very beginning

because the organisation
was meant for developed countries

and India was considered still developing.

The organisation aims to have a platform
to share policy experiences,

good practises and answers
to most common questions and problems

that as a whole
they are facing about career guidance.

Clear guidance is about information

on the labour market,
the opportunities of employment

available to somebody, to a whole society
as a whole,

and also
about aspirations of an individual,

not only their aspirations,
their personality, their interest,

the competencies, what are the attributes
that make them choose

a certain career, make set them suitable
for a certain career?

All of this information
needs to be present.

It needs to be organised.

It needs to be systematically presented
to people in a way

where they can use it as and when needed.

It is not only about giving information.

It has to be matched with the person
in a particular circumstance.

And that is likely where guidance is.

The umbrella under

which we bring about career counselling
as that through a guidance is the overall

comprehensive programme
that any institution might run

which talks about information,
the choices that you have.

It could be 1 to 1 or one to many.

The aim is to tell you what is present

and career counselling goes deeper.

Talks 1 to 1 about the careers
that are present

and how they might be a choice for you
as an individual.

They are completely individualistic
and based on

what is present as seen in career
guidance, career counselling talks about.

Now what do we use from what is present

depending upon what are my circumstances?

What are my choices?

What are the choices
that I can actually make?

So that is why career guidance
is the umbrella and career counselling

comes under it.
