rather late in life.

Well, in the Dark Ages,
when I was born,

TV hadn't been invented yet.

I had no choice but to wait.

you'd started earlier,

when you're 6' 2"
and look like me.

I'm sure
I don't have to tell you

that I wasn't an obvious choice
for television

or even culinary school,
for that matter.

I had to find what I love.

But I'm glad
it came to me later.

I wouldn't have been able
to handle all this

when I was young.

I had already learned a lot
about the world

before Simca and I wrote
"Mastering,"

and I needed those lessons
to get me through the book.

But writing is difficult,

which I'm sure I don't have

But thank goodness our
cookbook landed on the desk

of the brilliant Judith Jones.
